And once again Crowson gets it wrong. President Hussein DOES NOT NEED the Republicans to gain a “victory”. He has a majority congress, the end.

What is it that the dems can’t go ahead and accomplish something and accept the results, good or bad.

And, dick wad, even the lousy Baucus Bill will lower the deficit, according to the CBO.
    ==================================================

This is what happens when people listen to the media, and fail to engage their brains. Most people will not get this. The public school system no longer provides the teaching tools for learning how to use basic math and come to a logical conclusion. David, like the media is taking this half a sentence and blowing it completely out of context.

Let us start with the exact words out of the CBO Report:

On a preliminary basis, CBO and JCT estimate that the proposal’s specifications affecting health insurance coverage would result in a net increase in federal deficits of $518 billion over fiscal years 2010 through 2019. That estimate primarily reflects $345 billion in additional federal outlays for Medicaid and CHIP and $461 billion in federal subsidies that would be provided to purchase coverage through the new insurance exchanges and related spending. The other main element of the coverage provisions that would increase federal deficits is the tax credit for small employers who offer health insurance, which is estimated to reduce revenues by $23 billion over 10 years. Those costs would be partly offset by receipts or savings, totaling $311 billion over the 10-year budget window, from four sources: net revenues from the excise tax on high premium insurance plans, totaling $201 billion; penalty payments by uninsured individuals, which would amount to $4 billion; penalty payments by employers whose workers received subsidies via the exchanges, which
would total $23 billion; and other budgetary effects, mostly on tax revenues, associated with the expansion of federally subsidized insurance, which would reduce deficits by $83 billion.”

    Posted October 11, 2009 at 11:27 am | Permalink

    Let’s break that down:
    Increase to federal deficit:
    $345 billion Medicaid & Chips
    $461 billion federal subsidies
$23 billion small business tax credit
$829 billion total deficit increase under the Baucus Chairman’s mark
    Increases to federal revenue:
$201 billion excise tax on high premium insurance
$4 billion penalty payments by uninsured
$23 billion penalty payments by employers
    $83 billion other budgetary effects
$311 billion total revenue increase under the Baucus Chairmans Mark
Now we have revenue and expenses, so let’s go a step further:
    $829 in deficit expenses
    - $311 billion in revenue
518 increase to the national deficit
In other words THE BAUCUS MARK STILL INCREASES THE NATIONAL DEFICIT.

It just lowers it by less than previously thought. The 83 billion as you can see, is just a small part of the CBO report, when taken in context reveals our nation will continue spending half a trillion more dollars than we have.

But the uneducated public and media go wild!

    Actual Rush Limbaugh Quotes:

Vanity Fair has a feature on the king of talk radio that includes a companion piece with these quotes:

    1. “There is no conclusive proof that nicotine’s addictive… And the same thing with cigarettes causing emphysema, lung cancer, heart disease.”

    2. “Columbus saved the Indians from themselves.”

    3. “He is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He’s moving all around and shaking and it’s purely an act… This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn’t take his medication or he’s acting.”

    4. “ African Americans are twelve percent of the population. Who the hell cares?”

    5. “Kurt Cobain was, ladies and gentlemen, a worthless shred of human debris.”

    6. “Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream.”

    7. “We are a growing country and everybody needs energy! We’re not going to stay the United States if we start reducing energy usage. Conservation is not the answer.”

    8. To a black caller: “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”

    9. On torture at Abu Ghraib: “This is no different than what happens at the Skull and Bones initiation. And we’re going to ruin people’s lives over it, and we’re going to hamper our military effort, and then we are going to really hammer them because they had a good time. You know, these people are being fired at every day. I’m talking about people having a good time, these people-you ever heard of emotional release? You ever heard of need to blow some team off?”

    10. “Screw the world. Do you really think we ought to govern ourselves based on what the world thinks of us?”

    Nice post at 11:27 BlogMonitor.

Let’s not also forget that the Baucus Bill is not a complete Bill at this point. It’s a concept, with talking points. The CBO cost estimate then, can only be a very rough estimate at this point.

Until the details are finalized in the form of a final Bill, the CBO cannot be expected to provide a more detailed, and better estimate of costs.

And one other thing to not forget, every Government program EXCEEDS its cost estimate. Government can’t control costs because they have no incentive to control costs. If they need more money, they simply borrow more and/or raise taxes.

And 1/2 the country is A-OK with this, since they pay little or no taxes and it’s not their money!

    Thanks.

What is sad is how many Americans do not take the time to read the details. All people hear is, “THE BAUCUS PLAN LOWERS THE DEFICIT”.

But they don’t stop and ask themselves what that means.

In this case, the “preliminary plan” (still without details) will increase the deficit $518 billion dollars over the next ten years.

I’m against any plan that forces people to buy into insurance giants. That’s just what those insurance companies want us to do. Be mandated to send them money.

NO! There must be a public option!

And for those who claim that Limpballs isn’t a leader of the republicon party- I wish that were true. But he is the main voice of the cons and has been, his ratings are thru the roof, and your precious talking points almost always come from him whether or not you like to admit it.

Paragraph 4 of the cited CBO report:

“According to CBO and JCT’s assessment, enacting the Chairman’s mark, as amended, would result in a net reduction in federal budget deficits of $81 billion over the 2010–2019 period… In subsequent years, the collective effect of those provisions would probably be continued reductions in federal budget deficits.”

I think “net reduction” means a reduction.

What you may be missing is that these are all “projections”.

It’s easier to understand maybe if I put it this way.

We were planning on building a Yacht IN THE FUTURE for One Million Dollars.

Instead, we are going to build a Yacht for 750,000 dollars.

This later plan will reduce the cost (defict spending) $250,000.00.

    Get it?

In this case, we are still going to spend $750,000 of money we will have to borrow.

But on paper I can declare a victory! Pat each other on the back. Rush the legislation through.

  22. Posted October 11, 2009 at 1:48 pm | Permalink

” the proposal’s specifications affecting health insurance coverage would result in a net increase in federal deficits” – but those are offset by other specifications in the bill to create net reduction…

You are cherry picking the costs and ignoring the benefits and the cost reductions in the bill – and you are not even considering that the bill will make for a healthier America and a healthier economy.

Saw a clip of Limbaugh being interviewed as a lead-in to being one of the Miss America pageant judges.

Basically, he said he had no ideology. He said he was doing it for money, and nothing more. In other words, he’ll do anything to build his audience and keep a certain segment of Americans listening to him. His entire motivation is money. Even he is getting sick of your stupidity. That’s why he wants to own a football team. At least that’s real.

Even when I pick up on Limbaugh as I am searching the radio dial, and listen to him for ten seconds, in that short period I know that what he is saying is B.S. That’s about the time that is required for the “scan” feature to pick out the next station.

To the UN:” I took office at a time when many around the world had come to view America with skepticism and distrust. Part of this was due to misperceptions and misinformation about my country. Part of this was due to opposition to specific policies, and a belief that on certain critical issues, America has acted unilaterally, without regard for the interests of others. And this has fed an almost reflexive anti-Americanism, which too often has served as an excuse for collective inaction.”

We and the world know that absolute must be rebuilt. Can you imagine being glued to the radio during the Cuban crisis feeling Kennedy was just shooting a line to scare us in aide of fabricating the sitation to satisfy a hidden agenda? BTW another poster said the NBI showed America the most admired nation again after years mired in the lower rankings. To show it wasn’t a fluke Gallup has now published the same findings, with the same explaination of Obama being elected and a global repudiation of America under Bush 43. CBO: Baucus Faux Universal Health Care Bill to Leave 25 Million Uninsured
October 8, 2009 in Healthcare, Max Baucus, Regressives

“Sen. Max Baucus… is, not surprisingly, one of the biggest beneficiaries of this one-two punch from the lobbyists and their clients”
    by JC

Nothing like spending $829 billion dollars and still having 25 million people, all legal citizens under the age of 65, left out of the health care insurance system under Baucus’ current reform “efforts.” You can read all the gory details at the CBO, if you have stomach for such things.
    —————
DavidB please tell me why this bill is the be all to end all. We are spending hundreds of billions of dollars and we leave 25 million still uninsured. According to Obamas last infomercial there are around 30 million uninsured now.

So to cover 5 to 7 million more we will trash the system we currently have, bury future generations with a debt they will never repay while demanding a new tax levied on us all to implement a system that has already failed in every state that has tried it.

I am having a hard time feeling warm and fuzzy about this ’solution’.

I missed the section where what is being trashed?

The part where being pregnant is a pre-existing condition which can be used to deny coverage? Or the part where your pre-existing condition might be that your husband beats you? Or the part where CIGNA gave Dawn a 2 year run around while her brain tumor went untreated?

There is enough head-room in the Baucus bill – which LOWERS the deficit, according to the CBO – to make additions to cover all American citizens, don’t you worry about that.

A man is accused of killing a cop and suddenly he killed the President TOO?? Just because it happened the same day? The supposed assassination weapon is paraded around without any thought to investigation? The supposed assassin is paraded past uncontrolled mobs SEVERAL times? His transfer to another location in widely announced in advance?

No wonder most Americans think it was a conspiracy. Watching this after the fact, I am embarrassed that the Justice system in Texas is allowed to even be associated with the United States. Unbelievable!

    Blue Jay,
I do agree with you that there is much more to JFK situation that meets the eye. A good book on the subject is “Best Evidence”,the book deals with JFK’s body as the most crucial piece of evidence in the case and how the chain of evidence was broken in regards to blocks of time where the whereabouts of the body was unknown. There is a bit of local flavor to the book, the commander of the casket team was a Lt Byrd from Wichita, who was interviewed aboiut his role during the first few hours.
I was 10 when JFK was assinated and looking back that seems to be the the staring point of distrust in government.
