While most of the attention on next year’s 4th Congressional District race has been on all the Republicans entering the field, Democratic state Rep. Raj Goyle has been raking in donations. He announced Tuesday that he had raised more than $403,000 during his first three months as a candidate. Half of the contributions were $100 or less.

There’s plenty of time for Toad Tiahrt to drop out of the senate race and run for another
two years off the federal teatterm in Congress.Raj has done nothing to better Kansas. He moved back to Kansas to run for a state house seat at Sebelius request. His wife stayed out east. Raj does not even have a job in Kansas.
He has not and will not raise much money from Kansas. It is all from out of state or out of country.
The fourth district does not need a carpet bagger to represent them.
There is enough dems(with money) to support a race and keep their lifestyle.

Most of Goyle’s family are Doctors, Lawyers, Dentists – so I imagine he can rake in money.
But the question needing to be asked, other than being married to a lawyer and the son of Doctors, what exactly has Goylve done other than being a political spotted hog in the garden?
Raj has done nothing for Kansas and that is what you would expect when he does not make Kansas his home.
He came here at the request of Sebelius to run for a state house seat and then make a run for congress. His wife has not given up her job or their home on the east coast.
He has not had a job since coming back from Kansas.
The home he bought is set up as a campaign office. He does not live there (just ask his neighbors).
Tiahrt still has his home in Goddard and spends a considerable amount of time there. I know of many people that have run into to Tiahrt or his wife while out shopping. They do not consider DC their home.

Raj a carpetbagger? Are you kidding? His parents moved here from Ohio when he was less than a year old, and haven’t left. Raj grew up here, and went to college in North Carolina (Duke). Harvard for law school, and then a few years working back east as an attorney. I’m not sure he was even 30 when he moved back to Kansas to teach at WSU. That’s not “carpetbagging” by any sense of the word. That’s called growing up and going to college, then moving back home. And all the personal attacks about his wife I’m not even going to dignify with any response other than: You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
If you want to talk about carpetbaggers, how about Tankerless Todd Tiahrt? Born and raised in South Dakota, college and grad school in Missouri, moved to Kansas and started running (and losing) for Kansas Legislature in the 80s. If you’re going to hold Goyle to some artificial and nutbag standard of residency, drop the hypocrisy and make the same case against TTT.

By the way…Politico flat out lies when he claims Raj will be raising money from out of the country. It’s a Federal crime to solicit money from outside the US for use in political campaigns, and I’m certain Politico knows that. Politico is just trying to play the same bs “he’s not one of us” race card against Goyle that the teabaggers and birthers have tried to play against Obama.

Odd that if Raj doesn’t live in Kansas that Ive been to his house? He lives on the East over by the mall, any contrary to Politico his wife lives their too
Raj Goyle has been well representing his constituents in Topeka.
He has been an active member of the Wichita community starting at least since he was 15 years old when he organized a recycling program for his neighborhood and an Arkansas River cleanup project.
His job is representing the folks that elected him to the 87th District of Kansas House of Representatives seat. Raj Goyle’s job is working for the people of Kansas.
He wrote the bill that put limits on the ugly funeral protestors.
He is working for programs to help working people and business make it through these troubled economic times.
He’s smart and hard-working and cares about his district. I think he has earned a shot at representative seat in Washington.
I am not attacking his wife. Only stating the facts that she does not live here, nor has she left her job on the east coast.
Raj has taught only one class at WSU since he ran for office. You cannot make a living on that.
So if he does not have a job how does he make a living? Live off his parents or his wife?
Politico, if you want to talk to someone about respect, grab a mirror, pull up a chair, and get started. You’ve lied about and trashed Raj’s wife’s reputation for no other reason than you’re still bitter that he beat Bonnie “I think 12 year olds should be able to marry” Huy fair-and-square in 2006. I have met Raj while he was out campaigning. He is a nice, personable guy. However, a quick check with Project Vote Smart shows him to be a rank’n file progressive.
What is missing in this thread is any real record of where this money came from. If memory serves he is not required to produce details about the donations until much later in the campaign.
Former Gov. Sebelius raised a lot of money from out-of-state sources that was under-reported during the last election. I suppose that is to be expected in Kansas for a serious Democrat contender.
Well, the first and probably the greatest achievement Goyle did for this district was to rid us once and for all of Bon-Bon Huy! That’s worth a lot!

It’d be a nice change of pace having someone with that character trait representing the 4th in D.C. after being represented by that spendthrift Tiahrt the last 14 years.

Are you privy to Raj Goyle’s personal finances? If not, I’m going to have conclude that you’re just talking out of your azz.
I see it as the right of the Golyes to decide what careers they will pursue, and how they will handle their personal finances. Many couples share and support one another in every way. It’s not our business and certainly not any kind of character flaw.
It’s good news that fund raising is successful for Raj Goyle! He’ll make a fine Congressman.

I think that in reporting donations for ANY candidate, the Eagle should break down what percentage is coming from out of state.

Congratulations in finding a campaign report from Jan. 2009. It does not cover the recent spike in donations. Which is the subject of this thread and my question.
Although the line item about a $250 refund to the Wichita Eagle looked interesting.

I think Mr Goyle never having a full time job in Kansas is an issue.
