GOP needs to start leading on health care

jindalbobbyRather than leave health care reform to Democrats, “conservatives should seize the mantle of reform and lead,” Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal wrote. He offered 10 ideas to increase the affordability and quality of health care (nearly all of which have been around for some time). The proposals include voluntary purchasing pools, lawsuit reform, increased transparency and payment reform, electronic medical records, tax-free health savings accounts, rewarding healthy lifestyle choices and requiring coverage of pre-existing conditions. “The public is interested in solutions that will improve America’s health-care system, not dismantle it,” Jindal wrote. “Republicans can lead on this.”

Jindal is a big fan of exorcisms. Why doesn’t he put together a proposal/ceremony to exorcise the dollar-munching insurance demons from our current healthcare system?

64% of Americans want a public health insurance option. That includes 10% who voted for McCain last November.

The Repubic Party is shilling for campaign contributions from for-profit health care providers who enjoy a 16%-per-year increase in income while the rest of us are suffering economic crises…mostly due to the high price of health coverage.

If health-care sees meaningful reform even the naysayers will benefit, and the Republican Party knows that. Therefore they will fight and do everything they can to ensure no American benefits while the president and majority of Congress are from the Democratic Party.

Yeah, I’ve been to a quack chiropractor.

    A couple of ‘em, actually.

The first one announced he specialized in “non-contact subluxation.” He had me lay prone on the table and held his hands one inch over my body for ten minutes and recommended 10 more visits (as long as my insurance would pay for them. he offered to check that out.)

I decided maybe my lower back pain might need something else and the guy gave be a pretty nice-feeling massage and suggested 10 more treatments (or whatever my insurance would pay for).

In both waiting rooms I read the literature and learned all disease can be cured by subluxation of the vertebrae. Cancer, diabetes, allergies, the yaws….

Then I went to an osteopath and she suggested I take all my cards and photos and crap out of my wallet or don’t sit on it when it’s in my hip pocket. She suggested Advil ’til the pain went away (and the pain soon went away) and I carry a skinnier wallet these days.

Two chiro-quacks missed out on 18 additional “treatments.” And Blue Cross would’ve paid ‘em if I’d signed up.

So would Medicare and Mecaid, thanks to political contributions to idiot politicians.

You want a good back-rub? Go to the edge of town and pay for a “massage.” (Be sure to tip for the “happy ending.”) I have no problem with you doing that, but don’t expect taxpayers to pay for it via Medicare or Medicare or the insurance plan I contribute to.

But we can take it from the Canadians, they are such children after all.

The Gov. should poison the bears and cougars so everyone can hunt safely….and throw in some wheelchair ramps, and level the land so that it doesn’t exceed a 2% slope.

    Sound shovel ready to me.

They’ll need to put in male and female outhouses as well.

I heard that the newest game in the park would be the Watermelon Skunk.

And there was a time when the Government would have given it to you.

Now, Republicans want to insist that Americans have no right to even basic health care.

    Good thing they won’t prevail.

I don’t know why the slaves complained so much. They had a LIB utopia.

Free room and board, minimal health care, made no profits, and all the fruits of their labor went directly to the entity that provided for them.

What could have been so bad?

anti/freebird: Be careful, we’ve tried before to invade Canada. The Revolutionary War saw us kicked pretty hard by those pesky socialsits who did not flock to the colors like they were supposed to. Then Madison started a war with Britain as excuse for a huge land grab in 1812, when their mother country was fully occupied with Napoleon, but that ended up with us being repulsed, then they campaigned in Michigan, took Detroit then moved on to Ohio. Seems we had to ask nicely for the swaths of land they held at the end in both Michigan and Maine as part of the Treaty of Ghent. It’s now the other way around, do you have any idea how many of them own property in the South? I suggest just a swap, like hundreds of acres of swamp (they’ll take it, it’s warm) for a piece of British Columbia.

Yeah, Canadians were powerhouses (with the help of the British Army) in the 18th century.

Regardless of what anyone wants, Harry Reid wants it more and he’s got the keys to the vault. This whole “republicans need to lead” is a bunch o’ horse schitt. There is not a chance they could stop this from going through anyway. In any case, Harry Reid is going to back door this thing and you have nothing to say about it.

    We are ruled, not represented.

Of course it is. I’ve been there, seen it done. The agent offers you a policy with low caps, an impossibly high deductible, and a premium triple your total household income. It’s of course your choice to take it or leave it.

What a great opportunity to cut off all taxpayer funding and public and private insurance coverage for abortion, drastically reducing the number of abortions.

biased1 : Actually there were no Indian Wars at all in the expansion of their half of the continent. And yes they have apologized for the missionary schools the first nations kids were forced into as part of trying to assimilate into modern day actuals. Thinking education was the way up and out, they emulated our practice of what was considered by 18-19th century man as charitable and logical. Unfortunely we all discovered that missionaries=shock troops of cultural genocide.

Now I gotta tell the truth about the 1812 War bit. The New England States would not take part in Mr. Madison’s war nor would the militia of most Border State whose constitution forbade foreign service, hence no invasion in strength ever took place. Most of the Border States had family north of the line, very much like to-day, so it was hard for anybody to generate much excitement or anger on either side locally. Still is, from my personal experiences.

    Troyboy,
    “It’s a start on abolition.”

No, think of it as another and equally fatal stab at prohibition. Abortion has always been available in one form or another no matter what laws have been passed, and your efforts will make no more a dent in it than Comstock’s or any of the others did. Further, I think you know this and just don’t care, as long as you get your 15 minutes out of it.
