Barack Obama far outraised John McCain among individual donors last year. Yet college football and NFL head coaches (and their wives) favored McCain and the GOP in their giving far more than Obama and the Democrats. “Could it be that football coaches, just by the nature of the job, are more comfortable on the right end of the political spectrum?” asked the Wall Street Journal’s Steve Kornacki. Former University of Nebraska coach and former GOP congressman Tom Osborne (in photo) drew a link between conservative principles and what it takes to rise to become a head football coach. “I think that background — adherence to discipline, sometimes sacrifice, loyalty to core values — those things tend to have people move in that direction,” Osborne said. He also joked, “I’m sure many who are more liberal would say it’s because they got hit in the head too much.”

Why is it that when liberals and Democrats disagree with some people, they suggest we do not have “core values”? Just because we don’t agree with you does not indicate we lack values, our’s just are not lock step with your’s.
Mean, angry, loyal at all costs no matter how wrong or bad they are, in it for money, wrong priorities…yep. Sounds like a con to me.
You’re simply worthless P_mama….that’s right, worthless.
And you lack one other thing in addition to the quality attributes listed, “adherence to discipline, sometimes sacrifice, loyalty to core values”. You lack intelligence and common sense.

The evidence is right in front of you about the agenda being pushing and yet you motor on while the lions share of the nation say ‘enough’.
You are certainly welcome to your own opinion as are others. Motor on.
Some of the meanest people I ever knew were football coaches. I am not at all surprised that they trend Republican.
In a “results” oriented world GOP will always rule.

Well put guy, well put!
BJ I can understand why you wouldn’t like football coaches. Bet they weren’t too crazy about you either.
It was cons who brought us into a bogus war, it was cons who ignored the 911 warnings in the first place, it was cons who destroyed the economy…all of the PROOF is right there. You spread the MOST vicious lies and don’t even care when they are so outrageous that they are called out. How does it feel to always be wrong and stupid? The people with the brains are always on the liberal side.
Yeah, like they’re ruling now….
Never forget, Bill Clinton caused 9/11.
Give up your medicare and social security and VA idiots. If you’re so against it, you shouldn’t take it.
Wouldn’t it be great if cons had to live by their own words? I guess its the same with their religious beliefs….they expect other people to live by them, but when it comes to them- oh god forgives me for my sins so I can sin all I want to.
I’m telling ya, we should split the country in two, we libs can have the USA, you cons can have Jesusland. I would love to watch you all destroy yourselves by having to live by your own beliefs.
“would say it’s because they got hit in the head too much.”
Yeah that’s about the size of it. In my experience, most football coaches are ex football players that were never any good.

“Discipline” — Like hiring a hooker to dress you up in diapers and spank you?
“Sometimes Sacrifice” — Like “sometimes” opposing a higher income tax rate for those earning more than $250,000 but insisting on SOCIALIZED!!!! golf courses.
“Core Values” — Like marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman and his Argentina boink buddy.
Thanks, CONs, for your stellar examples of morality.

And this is what Dick Morris says about ignoring the warnings and when they came about. He should know, he worked for ‘the Man’.
9-11 Warning Ignored
Dick Morris
Monday, Sept. 19, 2005
“The recent publication of some once-censored parts of the 9/11 Commission report reveals that, in 1998, federal intelligence sources had shared their concern that al Qaeda could be planning to use passenger airplanes as missiles on suicide raids against prominent targets in the United States. This is the first time we’ve heard that that the possibility of such a suicide mission was raised at the federal level during the Clinton years.
But the entire thrust of the administration’s attitude toward air safety and security was based on the happy assumption that no terrorist would ever engage in a suicide bombing using airplanes. Now the question arises: Why did not the Clinton Administration re-evaluate its air safety measures in light of the 1998 warning? “
Don’t forget making 14-year-olds run wind sprints until they die. It’s a core value.
Football games are a culmination of effort organized by the Coach and its boosters.
At the game, ceremony and tradition are revealed. The Star Spangled Banner is played and used to be opened with a prayer for the safety of the players. School songs are often sung, fight songs played by bands followed with lyrics from the fans.
School colors are worn and banners waved.
The Coach is seen as the person who brings together young men from an undisciplined state of not being ready physically or mentally to meet the challenges ahead.
The Coach raises the spirits of these young me to work together as a team and instructs them on the importance of sportsmanship and fair play.
The Coach shows that hard work and dedication yields results that yes anyone can belong if you make the effort and share the sacrifice to achieve the common goal.
The Coach is a clear decision maker, often missing in young men’s life who have either weak fathers or no paternal guidance. Players look to the Coach as a surrogate father, one who will teach life’s lessons.
Those football players who toil in an common effort find reward of enduring spirit. The players to the Coach for leadership and are seldom disappointed as there is no ambiguity of what goal it is to be achieved.
Focus, determination and a combined efforts are what Coaches do and that’s a good thing.
Football coaches like being Republican because they share common values. Hard work is rewarded, effort is recognized and the spirit of man is brought forth in common accomplishment.
Most football coaches are overpaid egotists. Who cares whay they say?
“Football combines the two worst qualities of Americans: violence, and committee meetings.”

What jobs? CONS loved it when corporations outsourced American jobs. But without the working middle class to keep the government trough full of all those tax credits and subsidies, most of the CONS will die within the first month. It will take a little longer for the majority of them to die – these are quite the little fat piggies from years of gorging themselves at the government trough.

or getting a BJ in the oval office
Regular – and the Coach is always the one yelling at each player like he is a raving lunatic – but maybe you like that kind of environment? The Coach is also the one that is usually pouting like a little girl when he doesn’t get his way. Or maybe the Coach will throw his little tantrum on the field and really make the network shows? And all the little CONS will go ‘good Coach’. Yeah, that is some type of person we need our young people to emulate.
Or maybe it just boils down to one thing – CONS like to be dominated and humuliated? maybe that’s why all those Republicans have their mistresses on speed dial?
Regular – does the Assisted Living Center have a football team? If they do, then maybe you’ll get to wear that cute little cheerleader outfit again?
totoinks,
Evidently, you never played football or had a football coach worth remembering.
The football coaches I’ve met were men of character and sacrificed a lot to achieve that common effort towards a goal.
Sorry you feel victimized, but I guess that’s expected from a Lib.
Speaking of cheerleaders – we haven’t heard from George W. Bush lately.
Wonder what GWB is thinking while watching Cheney spill his guts all over Fox News about their torturing and even allowing people to go beyond their own policy of torture.
Loose lips, sinks ships?
NO, Regular – you’re wrong (as usual). I did have a coach but a winning coach!
Sorry to hear you must have had some bad coaches if they left you feeling the way you do. Is that why hate comes so natural to you?

Yeah, honor and integrity – CONS don’t know the meaning of those two words.
Freebird1971
Wrong puppy, You want people to lockstep to what you think is right
–
Birdie – that’s the difference between CONS and Liberals – Liberals are secure in their own beliefs that we don’t have to lockstep.
Locksteppers are people who have to have someone telling them what to do, what to think and what to say.
Evidence of that is seen every day on this blog. Rush puts out the lockstepping orders – and all the little dittoheads dutifully line up to say ‘yes, Sir’ how high shall I kick my ruby slippers today????
Doris – you’re right – sometimes it is like shooting fish in a barrel – isn’t it?
Regular – again you’re wrong – but I’m sure you get told that alot – huh?
Why can you just not accept the fact that there are people who are not afraid to stand up to you and tell you back?
You don’t like it? Go tell mommy, maybe she’ll bake you some cookies and tell you how good you are.
sorry, Toto, I see to many on here indicating, that any difference with what you think is correct will not be tolerated and I’m talking about both sides. Being a moderate and independent I just shake my head and wonder if some will ever grow up.
Keep us the good work Doris – this Liberal has to go to work – that is something the CONS on this blog 24/7 never say, huh?
Birdie – if you’re a moderate and independent, then why do you side with the CONS on everything?
Do you like being used?
Birdie – your beloved Coach will not be happy…..
It’s as simple as this:
Coaches have to EARN success.
Liberals view success by how much one gets from the government. For free.
EARN success? Since when? When corporate money made football coaches millionaires and celebrities, there has not been one coach worth their salt.
Besides, when have the words Republican and EARN ever been used in a truthful statement?
As for how much one gets from the government for free – I assume you’re also talking about the Republican piggies at that government trough?
You know those piggies, I’m sure you’ve seen a few in your day. Oink, oink.
toto,
Your obvious jealousy of those who earn more than thou – is noted.
Now, I’ll type slowly for you.
How do coaches define success? Here’s a hint: it isn’t by salary.
Someone offer toto some help? Please? Anyone? (I’ll promise my 10 yr old could answer this correctly.)
Well oh unhousebroken 1, There are a lot of things I don’t agree with conservatives on. You see I watch and read from several sources make up my own mind, and am open to varying viewpoints. Unlike you I don’t see the world in black or white left or right there are shades of gray. Just because I happen to agree with something that you don’t doesn’t mean I’m being used. I feel that people like you and those on the other fringe are the ones being used.
Liberals do not understand that football is training for the rest of your life for one simple reason:
The team can not win unless everyone does his job.
Liberals don’t want to do their job. They want someone else to do it for them, and then penalize them when they do.
KSGolfnut,
I am convinced DimLibs do in fact have a deep and debilitating mental disease.
totoinks, BlueJay, P-mama, the Chimp and others so clearly exhibit that, symptoms include jealousy, envy, hate, lack of work ethic, and dishonesty among others.
Really sad, but also dangerous for how they can harm this country.
AGAIN, Mr_Kia, simply an excellent analysis. Accurate, clear and without wasted verbiage.
Thank you!
Capital gains aren’t actually work; that’s why they should be taxed to fund health care reform. It would end a lot of speculation that hurts everyone, too.
“The team can not win unless everyone does his job.”
Ho, ho, ho. Some teams can’t win no matter what. What life skills does that teach? In fact, exactly half of all games are lost. You could just as easily deduce it takes teamwork to lose.

No, not all teams win – that’s a fact.
The importance is taught in the team effort lead by the Coach.
Only a pessimist or someone who hasn’t learned life’s lessons that failure isn’t defeat, it’s an opportunity to re-evaluate your plan and set goals.
With your attitude DorisKing, the lightbulb would never have been invented because there were too many failures before success was achieved.
Fact.
Some people are more successful than others.
Life is competitive.
Who told you different?
I wasn’t aware the lightbulb was invented by a football team.

Of course, top coaches are CONs.
They make millions of dollars a year, and CONs cut taxes on the rich.
So . . . what can we CONclude?
That rich people care more about their money than helping the society that made them rich.

Thought so.
The DimLibs around here are all losers in life. They are losers because it is easier than winning, and as stated most have a lousy work ethic.
But that doesn’t mean they don’t want all the fruits of labor, they simply want the government to extort, rob it if you will, from those that earn it and rightfully deserve to keep what they have earned.
Might I add….they are disgusting creatures, repulsively disgusting.
What’s your point, ByA s sWanna?

Bawklots probably looks a lot like Gargamel. Except I bet he is balding and more rotund.
“Back in October, when charged that he was a socialist, Obama explained what he meant by “shared responsibility,” saying, “I don’t know what’s next. By the end of the week [John McCain will] be accusing me of being a secret communist because … I shared, I, I, I, I shared my, uhh… I shared my peanut butter and jelly sandwich.” Of course, Obama wasn’t and isn’t proposing to share his sandwich. Instead, he promises to confiscate your sandwich and give it to someone else whom he deems more worthy.
At the same time, Obama said of McCain’s opposition to tax hikes, “You know I, I, I don’t know when, when, uh, when they decided they wanted to make a virtue out of selfishness.” This from the guy who, between 2000 and 2006, gave a whopping two percent of his income for charitable purposes.”

The DimLibs around here are all losers in life.
Take for instance, Barack Obama.
A mixed race child, raised by a single mother who was on food stamps, that loser became President of the United States.
Geez, if he had any ambition he’d be coaching KSU.
But, wait, let’s look at other DimLib losers–
Bruce Springsteen
George Soros
Alec Baldwin
Barbra Streisand

Woody Gutherie, Arlo Gutherie, Bob Dylan
Noam Chomsky
Gen. Wesley Clark

His‘ = ‘He’George Washington, the DimLib loser, should be stricken from the dollar bill because he wrote this:
“As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality.”
Jefferson was also clearly a DimLib loser as one can see from this quote:
“No experiment can be more interesting than that we are now trying, and which we trust will end in establishing the fact, that man may be governed by reason and truth. Our first object should therefore be, to leave open to him all the avenues to truth. The most effectual hitherto found, is the freedom of the press. It is, therefore, the first shut up by those who fear the investigation of their actions.”
No talk of blowing up The New York Times building.

“equally entitled to the protections of civil government.”
“Protections” NOT the confiscation of their personal wealth and labor.
Compare the DimLib loser President to the recent RepubliCON candidate.
John McCain . . . his father and grandfather were both ADMIRALS in the Navy. Also, he divorced his first wife and married a FORTUNE.
George W. Bush . . . his father was a Congressman, Senator, Ambassador to China, and President of the United States. His grandfather was a US Senator. His great-grandfather was one of the richest steel-railroad barons in the world.
Mitt Romney . . . his father was Chairman of American Motors and Governor of Michigan. His mother ran for US Senate.

Speaking of work, Boxy, why don’t you get back to it?

It won’t work:
Truth in Labeling
by Michael Carl
“Jefferson has been famously quoted as saying that, “The government that governs best, governs least.” He did not believe in the government usurping the rights and powers of everyday citizens by intrusive activity. He did not believe government had the authority, nor did it have the right, to spy on its citizens, devise social programs that require huge bureaucracies and excessively tax its citizens to pay for their future enslavement.
The term liberal has come to describe anyone who believes in a large federal government, centralised economic planning, and something like the European model of the “Nanny State.” Employing this definition, Jefferson would be a conservative and George W. Bush would be a liberal. For that matter, most of our presidents from Herbert Hoover through the current occupant of the White House, would be liberals. However, based on some of John F. Kennedy’s policies, he would probably be more of a “conservative” than Bush.
By the Constitutional standard, about 95% of Congress, both our Vice President and President, and all but two of our Supreme Court Justices are liberals. God help us.”
Jefferson was ‘liberal’ by the then standards, which are adamantly conservative principles today.
“Speaking of work, Boxy, why don’t you get back to it?”
I am….been out all week and now finishing it up. Good week by the way.
I send out quotes, emails, make calls and return calls.
Some times simultaneously while having fun poking at DimLibs.
OMGosh, another DIM LIB LOSER!
“Every gun that’s made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms…is spending the genius of its scientists, the sweat of its laborers,…” – Dwight Eisenhower
And speaking of “nanny state,” that’s what our government is to our military. The most expensive military in the world–more than all the militaries in the world put together–and all funded by mom-and-pop taxpayer and massive debt.
Sorry Capn,
Being a Liberal in the 18th Century did not mean the same thing as the 21st definition of Liberal.
Modern day Liberals are Statists, not classic Liberals>
Statism – concentration of economic controls and planning in the hands of a highly centralized government often extending to government ownership of industry.
This definition of course cames straight out of Marxist philosophy.
Jefferson’s view of Liberalism was that for the individual.
The modern day Liberal is that of collectivism.
Collectivism holds that the individual has no rights, that his life and work belong to the group (to “society,” to the tribe, the state, the nation) and that the group may sacrifice him at its own whim to its own interests. The only way to implement a doctrine of that kind is by means of brute force — and statism has always been the poltical corollary of collectivism.” — Ayn Rand
Which is exactly what O’BAMA and his O’BAMATRONS are, Statists, collective deniers of individual liberties.
You know, part of the hive, the ‘Borg.’
So don’t even compare yourself or your kind to Jeffersonian Liberals, you are in fact, the exact opposites – all that oppose liberty to the individual.
(chortles)

2. Unemployment rises AGAIN now at 9.7.

4. Wildfires raging in California.

It ain’t about the salary – it’s about EARNING it.
I bet that the football coach who’s on trial for murdering one of his players is hoping he gets a liberal judge?
Its actually kind of Odd that football coaches are “supposed” to be so conservative yet football is one of the most heavily government subized entertainments
Let’s see who started the personal attacks this morning.

In case you are not aware, that includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, all of the North East States, and the urban half of Ohio.
We spoke to God, and she agrees that this split will be beneficial to almost everybody, and especially to us in the new country of California. In fact, God is so excited about it, she’s going to shift the whole country at 4:30 pm EST this Friday. Therefore, please let everyone know they need to be back in their states by then. God is going to give us the Pacific Ocean and Hollywood. In addition, we’re getting San Diego. (Sorry, that’s just how it goes.) But God is letting you have the KKK and country music (except the Dixie Chicks).
Just so we’re clear, the country of California will be pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, and anti-war. Speaking of war, we’re going to need all Blue States citizens back from Iraq. If you need people to fight in Falujah, just ask your evangelical voters. They have tons of kids they’re willing to send to their deaths for absolutely no purpose. And they don’t care if you don’t show pictures of their kids’ caskets coming home.
So, you get Texas and all the former slave states, and we get the Governator and stem cell research. (We would love you to take Britney Spears off our hands, though. She IS from the south, right?)
Since we get New York, you’ll have to come up with your own late night TV shows because we get MTV, Letterman, the Daily Show, and Conan O’Brien. You get… well, why don’t you ask your people at Fox News to come up with something entertaining? (Maybe you should just watch Crossfire. That’s a really funny show.)
We wish you all the best in the next four years and we hope, really hope, you find those missing weapons of mass destruction. Seriously. Soon.
Sincerely,
California
Football is nothing but a game played about gaining territory. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s war on a playing field of 100 yards, played in halves or quarters.
Its refreshing to see the conservatives taking up the libertarian/ objectivist philosophy of Rand, most of them wouldnt like a government that followed that ideaology tho.
And here’s just a smattering of fine upstanding Americans whose characters were molded and shaped by excelling in football –

Trapper John: Well, what’s the matter with her today?
Hawkeye Pierce: I don’t know, I think it’s one of those ladies’ things.
“Yet college football and NFL head coaches (and their wives) favored McCain and the GOP in their giving far more than Obama and the Democrats.”
—————
And this is a surprise?
I don’t know about individual cases, but guys who have risen to the level of major college and the NFL head coaches are proven winners. They have overcome the odds and are probably making a lot of money. They are leaders, and are adept managers and delegators. It’s hard to imagine very many of them as Democrats.
My wife says football coaches are wussies. She says ballet mistresses are way tougher, demanding and getting more from much better trained and conditioned athletes. I daren’t argue.
Hell some of you cons are so old you have no idea to make it nowadays isn’t anything like it was when it DID take hard work to get there. Perhaps that’s why you see everyone as lazy, you got yours, screw everyone else.
Liberals ARE YOUR WORKFORCE you morons. Cons didn’t want to pay what labor is worth so they outsource it to cheap 3rd world countries. And then you wonder why our country’s economy is failing and the stocks are plummeting? Point the finger to your selfish selves.
“My wife says football coaches are wussies.”
Sur – good call on not arguing…we always lose those arguments…but I’d suggest arguing with her if she suggests you share her opinion with football coaches to their face… :)
But, I will say, that toe thing ballerinas do is pretty impressive…not as impressive as a classic Barry Sanders run with eleven 220+ lb folks chasing him (sorry, ballet dudes aren’t exactly scary even if they were trying to tackle ballerinas vs just holding them up), but still impressive. They should probably start testing them for juicin’… :)
Barry Sanders impressive?
Bolt’s running is very impressive!
Bolt’s impressive as well for pure speed…but I reiterate, nobody’s trying to knock snot bubbles out of Bolt while he’s running. It’s why sprinters so rarely amount to anything in football, even as wide outs, because there’s always a safety ready to see if they can detach their head from their body while they’re running…and they have to actually be able to catch while their heads bobbing like a bobblehead doll, something else sprinters don’t have to do.
So yeah, Sander’s was impressive.

Someday I’ll have to tell you how I, single-handedly, am responsible for Barry Sanders’ football accomplishments.
It’s a story worthy of “Regular’s” bloviations except some of it is even a little bit true. Some of it. But it’s a great story.
BTW, Bob Hayes was a big, tough, star wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys who just happened to be The Fastest Man in the World.
MH – would love to hear the Sanders story. I’m the same age as he is and my best friend in HS, played in the Shrine Bowl with him…Sanders was freaking INCREDIBLE in that game. The classic man among boys.
The offensive line coach at North was an asst coach in college where I played (NAIA div III…not like anything special), but he had some interesting stories. It was the first time I heard how Barry wouldn’t compete for tailback while Byron was there because he didn’t want to step on his toes.
Played softball with some guys that went to HS with him and we played in a tournament in Detroit in ‘93. Some of them went up early and hung out with Barry. He took them to the stadium, and when he pulled up to the gate, he asked the security guard if it was ok if he took the guys in…supposedly the guard said, “Are you kidding? This is YOUR house, sir!”
MH – oh, and Hayes was a man among boys too..definitely the exception to the rule, as there always is. But the odds are against sprinters starring out like that…Nehemiah, Gault, etc…Carl Lewis even signed with the Cowboys once and never made it out of camp…

I spent a lot of hours in North High in the 80’s, too. And as incredible as Barry was on the football field — and he most definitely was awesome — some of my favorite members when Barry, who was what? 5′5″? 5′6″? Had the damnedest vertical leap of anyone on the planet. When he played basketball he wasn’t all that good as a back-up point guard (when Mike Mason took a break). But I’ll never forget seeing Barry go up for a rebound and all those taller players jumping for it, and Barry seemed to never stop going up!
I love how his mother always thought the Sanders brothers and sisters would gang up on him and dictated they play touch football instead of tackle. That’s where he learned how to not get hit. His Mom told me that on the set of some McDonald’s commercials I wrote and produced in the early 90s.
But my story is more about Dale Burkholder (I think that was his name) who was head football coach at North. I’ll get around to writing it someday.
MH – yeah, my buddy talked about how everyone was wigging out at the Shrine Bowl practices when they tested vertical leaps. My buddy won the 4A State long jump that year…had springs…and he said Sanders made his vertical look silly. I know they said he had no problem dunking, so as short as he is, that’s impressive alone. I was doing good just to touch the rim! Stood next to him one night, shook his hand, at the old “City Lights” over by WSU one night and was surprised how short he was…but his thighs looked they were about to bust out of his jeans too..
Never met any of his family, but just based on Barry’s attitude, can’t help but assume they’re all good folks.
Football is a form of physical “warfare”. The idea is to do as much physical damage to the other team as possible to win the game. Since Republicans are mostly alpha male warmongers, it only fits that football coaches would be Republicans.
Me thinks you been watching “Friday Night Lights” and the movie “Hoosiers” a bit too much!
“The Coach is seen as the person who brings together young men from an undisciplined state of not being ready physically or mentally to meet the challenges ahead.
Focus, determination and a combined efforts are what Coaches do and that’s a good thing.”
Coaches are just like anybody else in life whether in football or business or anything else. They are at a certain place in the pecking order of life and want to go higher. All the BS about “loyalty” and “values” is just BS. I have never seen a coach yet that would not desert and sell out his own team and take a higher paying job with a rival team if he could make a dollar more and have a nicer office. They effectively “use” the players to better themselves since the players don’t get anything except a shot at a college scholarship if they are lucky. And many coaches also bully teachers into giving their starting players better grades than regular students would get for doing the same quaility of work. So much for “integrity” People need to quit watching so much TV!
enjoyment apprise , forward to continuing.
