“a big fat check on an overdrawn bank account?” Senator Brownback must be talking about his own political capital.
Kansas, Say No to Brownback!
A lame duck governor says tax increases are needed but will only identify tobacco tax.
The dims should be so proud!
Parkinson needs to quick licking the con boots. This is why you don’t elect a DINO.
I’m tired of it being so popular to beat up on the smokers. I’m waiting for someone to propose every smoker pay all the taxes for everything. Perhaps we need to just move to our own state. Or perhaps they need to quit being hypocrites and ban smoking altogether if it is really SO bad for you like they are pretending that they have to tax the crap out of it- I mean really, smoking isn’t worse than booze or a half dozen of other things.
Here’s that slippery slope, you saw it in action. Convince people to quit smoking, the fewer smokers, the less political pull they have, then when the smoker numbers are so low- vote to make them the cause of all ills. I mean we have the Salina editor saying that if you smoke you can’t touch babies now…come on!
Hey I have an idea, how about taxing thimerosal?
That’ll damage you from birth!
“I’m tired of it being so popular to beat up on the smokers.”
Oh, Wah.
And Parkinson is right in his advice to the school districts. The cuts are painful, but now is not the time.
On the other hand, the stupid legislature needs to defer the upcoming business tax cuts, probably permanently.
It might surprise you to find out it is a republican trying to stop the ban. It is a democrat promoting the ban. Your DINO was your Sebelius chosen one.
Now you Whine? Way to funny!
It is also your DINO and dims promoting an increase in taxes starting with the tobacco tax.
Not a republican
As I’ve said before, and will probably have to say many more times, sin taxes give the state a vested interest in keeping people sinning. The legislature isn’t about to raise taxes on tobacco to the point where people will actually quit smoking; that would decrease revenue at a time when every state agency is already underfunded. Sure, they’ll raise them some since it’s currently politically correct, but they can’t outlaw cigarettes without legalizing some new sin they can tax, such as prostitution and/or casinos, or marijuana. Face it, they need that money, but don’t have the guts to raise income taxes.
