After multiple studies and years of unfulfilled promises, the redevelopment of 21st Street in north Wichita is finally becoming a reality. On Tuesday the Wichita City Council unanimously approved the construction of the Nomar International Marketplace at 21st and Market. The city also will widen 21st Street and add some decorative landscaping. City Council member Janet Miller correctly credited the persistence of community leaders in north Wichita and former council member Sharon Fearey for not giving up on the project.

food, art and goods market…
Oh yeah, that sounds really useful…
six months and it closes because of lack of business…
reggie,
Gee, why so negative? Thought you believed in the power of capitalism?
21st at Market was fixed up several years ago with the up Seltzer’s jewlers.
He finally moved his business because the people in the area was not interested in keeping it looking nice.
What will happen this time?
What a waste of Tax Payers’ money.
can you say ‘gang hangout’?
Can we start a pool on when this either goes belly up or burns down.
When you are surrounded by “Community Organizers” you know you are already screwed.
I called the Gov. office today to inquire if we are tossing any money down the ACORN rat hole….but alas…apparently not. So we cant cut them off like other states are in the process of.
As a kid, I went to movies at the Nomar. Later, when my mother was studying Spanish at WSU, she often went to Spanish-language movies there. I wish it was still a movie theater, but at least this way, it’ll survive.
And Rapt, I have friends who live within two blocks of there and I’ve been out and about in that neighborhood at least one night a week for the last ten years. Never once had any trouble there. It’s not at all bad, unless you just can’t stand Mariachi music!
Pol,
There are several small jewelry stores in that area that seem to be thriving. Apparently Mike Seltzer’s tastes (and prices) aren’t shared by everyone.
