Despite President Obama’s assurances today at the United Nations that the United States understands “the gravity of the climate threat ” and is “determined to act,” world leaders are justified in being skeptical. The fact is that many Americans, including most GOP members of Congress, are unconvinced of this threat and are unsupportive of actions that would cost much money or require significant lifestyle changes. For example, the cap-and-trade bill in Congress faces strong opposition, and its Senate passage seems doubtful. Yet as Obama also argued: “Our generation’s response to this challenge will be judged by history, for if we fail to meet it — boldly, swiftly and together — we risk consigning future generations to an irreversible catastrophe.”

irreversible catastrophe
======================================
Oh Brother
You lie!
irreversible catastrophe
=======================
Fear mongering and scare tactics, the tools of the Left.
“The fact is that many Americans, including most GOP members of Congress, are unconvinced of this threat and are unsupportive of actions…”
On behalf of better Americans, I apologize to the rest of the world for our less environmentally conscious population. We can’t make them care. But we will do what we can to get them to do the right thing.
Whether they like it or not.
NOAA chose to remove satellite input into their global ocean estimation and not make any attempt to operationally use NASA’s Argo data in the process. This resulted in a jump of 0.2C or more and ‘a new ocean warmth record’ in July. ARGO tells us this is another example of NOAA’s inexplicable decision to corrupt data to support political agendas.

If only we were smarter, we would see the LibTruth.
world leaders are justified in being skeptical.
What’s this? Obama appears weak on yet another issue?
Time is running out on this issue, too??
Where have I heard that before?
==================================================
“Obama warned that a failure to address the problem could create an “irreversible catastrophe.” Obama said time is “running out” to fix the problem but that, “we can reverse it.”"
Oh, I understand now.
================================================
“Many forecasters predict Democrats will lose congressional seats in 2010, making it all the more pressing for the Senate to make progress soon.”
Rising sea levels threaten every coastline.
Really? How much of California have we lost so far? Texas? Washington?
More powerful storms and floods threaten every continent.
Really? I could have sworn the storms were less frequent. I assume obama can point me to the data stating otherwise.
More frequent droughts and crop failures breed hunger and conflict in places where hunger and conflict already thrive.
Really? The cold summer seems to have affected the crops the most this year. Strange that.
On shrinking islands, families are already being forced to flee their homes as climate refugees.
Who are these people, where are the from and where have they fled to?
I predict a 4-6 month Northern Hemisphere cooling trend.
The cold summer seems to have affected the crops the most this year.
=======================================
That’s why they went from global cooling to global warming to climate change.
It covers everything!!

You cherry pick one question and still fail to answer it.
Praise be.
Hmmmm. The Arctic and Antarctic ice extent grew by ~1.5 million km2. But Greenland’s ice has shrunk?
I guess cosmo thinks Greenland’s ice = “global”

Actually they seem unable to think.
Like soldevvb, who can’t understand that cooling in a section of the U.S. does not represent everything that’s happening “globally”.
And fleettwood, who believes that the term “climate change” has been used only recently, and refers to warming – cooling -warming.
“Climate change” has been in use since the 1970’s, and refers to the non-temperature changes caused by AGW.
soldevvb,
Arctic and Antarctic sea ice does not directly affect sea levels.
Actually they seem unable to think.

You are making stuff up (again).
Must be habit.
Arctic and Antarctic sea ice does not directly affect sea levels.
You heard it here folks. If the Arctic and Antarctic ice all melted, the sea levels would not be effected.
Just wondering where the additional 1.5 million km2 of ice came from if not the sea. Must have been the ice fairy.
Like soldevvb, who can’t understand that cooling in a section of the U.S. does not represent everything that’s happening “globally”.

Cosmos believes that any local heating phenominon is evidence of ‘global warming’. If it is ‘global warming’ the only possible cause is man.
Algore said it, it must be true.
Rising sea levels threaten every coastline.
Really? How much of California have we lost so far? Texas? Washington?
Come on .., if you’re talking about Washington DC, we lost that a long time ago – they’re submerged in a sea of irreversible stupidity.
Well, a renewed and more extensive “cash for clunkers” program would not only enhance our international standing as proactive about the problem of global climate change. It would also move new cars in a “free” market that can’t. Sales of new cars have nosedived since the CARS program ended.
I have made significant changes in my lifestyle to do what I can to be more environmentally conscious. I don’t know how ‘convinced’ I am of the conceptof global warming, but it’s just too big of an issue to leave to chance. It just makes sense to me to take better care of the planet so my daughter doesn’t have to live in a dirty, crappy world that I helped create. I want things to be better for her.

Never happen, fleet. Your intelligence is severely limited by the size of the small box you all have chosen to live in.
Going green is going to create millions of new jobs, and if done right, right here in the good old U.S.of A. Going green will cut pollution. You know, the stuff that creates smog, rivers ya just can’t drink out of (Arkansas river seems to come to mind), smoke stacks that don’t inject heavy metals, like mercury and lead, into the atmosphere, Automobiles that get enough MPG to seriously cut imports from terrorist supporting regimes. Sounds like a win/win situation to me.
What is your UP SIDE, CONs?
If the world would go on for another couple of thousand years of spewing hydrocarbons into the atmosphere and you can guarantee those yellow skies and purple oceans still turned out edible lobsters (albeit, the size of a Greyhound bus), what’s an up-side for you guys? To remain able to get fuel for your 1970 Jimmy without it pinging you to death?
Nearly every nation in the world recognizes the scientific reality of impending climate change. The richest, most powerful corporations in the world acknowledge the reality alternatives to fossil fuels are essential to the ultimate survival of the human race.
So tell me, WE Blog CONs –
Just what are the benefits of doing nothing about burning fossil fuels in America?
Burn the damned coal! Burn the oil and gasoline! Fart in the elevator as you leave it.
What does your policy actually achieve?

soldevvb, you should learn how to read.
Loss of the sea ice will amplify the warming, which will cause more melting of land-based ice, which will cause the sea level to rise.
rivers ya just can’t drink out of (Arkansas river seems to come to mind),

You could never drink out of the Ark river, unless you like buffalo poo.
It’s always been a prairie river (dirt bottom).
This ain’t Colorado.

With El Ninjo to be weaker than other El Ninjo’s of the past, the Alarmists hope for an Armageddon climate are rapidly dissipating.
A leading scientist for International Panel on Climate Change has recently stated that it will be a long while before the cool phase is completed. A cooler climate usually means colder winters, which in turn will require the use of more heat during colder months via the use of fossil fuels.
Unfortunately for the IPCC scientists is that the cool phase will end about the same time the Solar cycle for the minimum will be complete. The surface anomalies on the sun appears to have coincided with thousands of years of solar activity and may be the proof skeptics are looking for to show that the co2 alarmist science has always been wrong.
Other proofs are rolling in with plate tectonics and the earth’s position to the sun as well as it’s rotational axis. These influences are seen by many scientists as much more significant in climate change by many orders of magnitude than atmospheric chemistry.
As one scientist put it, “‘Astro- and Geo-Physics’ seen on a grand scale will be impossible to deny.”
Fatal Errors in IPCC’S Global Climate Models
By sophiaalbertina
Here are some more interesting facts about the IPCC:s manipulation of data. And the fatal flaws and errors in their compute models which they use to ”prove” that mankind is behind the rising temperature and CO2.
I have written extensively about IPCC:s manipulation of data and the giant errors of these climate models. And about long term temperature and CO2 data.

http://reporting.journalism.ku.edu/spring07/adler-noland/2007/05/retired_ku_professor_doesnt_ad.html
“Johannes Feddema, KU geography professor, said the climate has a complex system, but has no doubt that increased carbon dioxide concentrations will increase climate effect. His graphs [link], unlike Gerhard’s, show a direct correlation between climate change and carbon dioxide. In fact, he says that observed climate in the last one hundred years cannot be replicated in the graph without using carbon dioxide as a variable.
Feddema said humans are changing the carbon cycle by changing the natural decomposition of vegetation through agriculture, urban development and deforestation as well as emissions from energy consumption and the burning of fossil fuels. He said the debate whether humans impact climate change doesn’t exist in the scientific community.
“The media feels like it has to be fair to both sides of the issue,” Feddema said. “So they have only one guy on each side to be balanced, even though 99 percent of scientists agree that we are having an impact on climate change.”
Other professors at KU agree with Feddema. David Braaten, atmospheric science professor, said models that only use natural forces such as the impact of the sun can’t explain observed temperatures. Another KU professor, Dr. Nathaniel Brunsell, studies biometeorology, the interactions between life and climate. He said the sun does have some effect on climate change, but that it’s too small to account for the climate change we’ve seen in recent years.”

It’s great that Dr. Feddema recommends the IPPC as a source on AGW.
http://www.cjonline.com/news/local/2009-09-20/earth_approaching_sunspot_records
Johan Feddema, acting chair and professor of geography at KU, studies global warming. Atmospheric science is a program in geography at KU. . . .
Feddema said the warming trend earlier in the century could be attributed to anything from solar activity to El Ninos. But since the mid 1980s he believes data doesn’t correlate well with solar activity, but does correlate well with rising CO2 levels.
Feddema believes we may hit global high temperatures in a few years with the underlying factor being rising CO2 levels, coupled with the solar cycle returning to a maximum and an El Nino.
For more information or to view graphs of data pertaining to global climate change, Feddema recommends visiting the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Web site at http://www.ipcc.ch/ where 2007 assessment reports on climate change can be viewed. He also recommends the Wikipedia entry on solar variation for good visual graphs of data.”

‘Arctic Warming Overtakes 2,000 Years of Natural Cooling‘
http://www.ucar.edu/news/releases/2009/arctic2k.jsp
“Arctic temperatures in the 1990s reached their warmest level of any decade in at least 2,000 years, new research indicates. The study, which incorporates geologic records and computer simulations, provides new evidence that the Arctic would be cooling if not for greenhouse gas emissions that are overpowering natural climate patterns.”

Fantastic rebuttal, Cosmos.
‘Utility Quits Alliance Over Climate Change‘
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/23/business/energy-environment/23utility.html
“Amid a growing split in the business community over climate policy, Pacific Gas and Electric, a major California utility, is withdrawing from the United States Chamber of Commerce, citing “fundamental differences” with the chamber’s approach to global warming.”
The problems with cosmos alarmist claim:
‘Arctic Warming Overtakes 2,000 Years of Natural Cooling
The revised statement by the Alarmist scientists now reads:
“The research team assembled high-resolution records of climate for the past 2,000 years and found that the cooling trend reversed in the 20th century.”
Why you ask?
All of the anomalous warming occurred in one “step shift” before 1950; while most of the increase in atmospheric CO2 has occurred since 1950…
Kaufman et. al. w/ my annotations
That’s right temperature preceeded any significant rise in co2 levels.
One of the most common claims of alarmists is that the Arctic is “melting” and that implies a temperature cause in their statements. But as we see, during the critical melt window, the DMI data seems to hold right along the climatic normal.
from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI)
The DMI data shows no correlation of melting ice with temperatures.
It Appears that scientists that don’t use press releases appear to have done their homework, while the Alarmists have not.
cosmos alarmist’s scientists busted again for bad science.
Regular wants more soup.

OF COURSE NOT!!!
But Obama tells the world OBAMA IS!!!!
