How many people attended 9/12 rally?

Taxpayer RallyTea party supporters are upset with the mainstream media for reporting that the number of people at the 9/12 rally in Washington, D.C., totaled in the “tens of thousands.” Some conservatives have said that the total was more than a million, and they see the disparity as another example of liberal bias. Washington Post ombudsman Andrew Alexander explains the process his newspaper went through to try to estimate the crowd size. Meanwhile, an aerial photo circulating on the Internet supposedly showing a huge crowd at the 9/12 rally turns out to be from a different rally in the 1990s.

Probably more than attended the kook RR rally. “There must be half a million of us”, or at least 20,000!

Still no answer from the msm on the number that attended. Why does the left not want the number out there.

Even the fire department that guessed 75,000 admitted that they made that guess ‘early in the day’.

What is the press running from?

It’s not very hard to figure this one out.

D.C. is overwhelmingly Democratic territory. This is true for the area immediately around D.C. as well. Can you even FIND a million cons in and near D.C? No. So, they have to come from somewhere else.

SO, the best way you cons could prove a high attendance would be to prove a surge in passengers on flights to D.C., higher than normal passengers on Amtrak and a surge in revenue from toll roads for the days leading up to 9 12 and the days following it. Til then, I’m gonna go with the lower figures. Cooperative activism is not a con strength.

    From wikianswers…

“According to census.gov, the 2008 ACS population estimate for the Washington DC is 591,833.”

Call it 600,000. We know that Republicans are only about 10% of DC voters. PROBABLY part of the reason the cons oppose letting them have representation. But that’s another thread.

Assume ALL of them went teabagging. That’s liberal of me.

That would be about 60,000 people. Now, to get any bigger than that, the crowd has to come from elsewhere.

All you cons have to show is the economic impact that your million man myth made on the DC area economy.

I’ve had fun identifying the various protesters and groups — no matter how many were there they represented a wide variety of ’causes.’

Here’s one that gave me a good laugh –

Billionaires for Wealthcare is a grassroots network of health insurance CEOs, industry lobbyists, talk-show hosts, and others profiting off of our broken health care system.

We are not a political, religious or even particularly well-organized group. We’re simple folk, thrilled profiteers pouring out of our corner offices to dance on the grave of “Change.”

We’ll do whatever it takes to ensure another decade where your pain is our gain. After all, when it comes to healthcare, if we ain’t broke, why fix it?

How large was the crowd? Who cares. If they had been lefties, and even 20 showed up, the pictures would have been all over the MSM. But that same media chose to largely ignore this rally, just as it chooses to ignore the local rallies all across the country.

    Why?

It doesn’t fit the narrative. And the narrative must be served.

The media is what it is, and what has been for a great deal of time. While it isn’t “right” or “fair,” no one promised that, and the 1st Am. guarantees their right to print what they choose. Fine; I just know that I will have to to go other sources to get a more genuine view of the truth. In the MSM, you’ll get the chosen narrative, and little else.

Of course I have a opinion on this but after reading through the post there is enough B.S.
Since one issue is the aerial photo that was found on the web.

Here is a funny story of the same approach, a printer in Pakistan was given the job of making posters in support of Osama Bin Laden. He went on the web to get a picture of OBL and used one he found in the search.

Half way through the parade someone notice the posters and the demand for the death of the printer went out. The poster had a photo shopped picture of OBL with a bottle of J.D. in one hand and a ham shank in the other!

    Ok I am moving on….

checking people on airline flights won’t prove anything…according to the NY times, there were people there from all 50 states. If everyone of the attendees flew, it wouldn’t necessarily show up in daily flight info.

Reason being…according to the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (sadly, there is such a place) there were 282 airline million passengers in this country the first 5 months of this year. That works out to a daily average of 1.88 million passengers a day nationwide.

So, if ALL the attendees flew there (highly unlikely, since there are such population concentrations in the eastern part of this country) that many people could have flown over the course of a 2 or 3 day spread and not created a blip on daily travel figures. It cannot be assumed that everyone flying there flew into a DC area airport, either. Any such assumption has no basis in fact.

Checking hotels? Riiight. There is an average of over 16 million visitors in DC every year…and last time I was there, the hotel didn’t ask my purpose for being there. There is no reason to believe every visitor stayed in a DC hotel, either. That is a very large metro area, with tens of thousands of hotels spread across several states.

So, “bj” your attempt at discrediting the numbers of people there by such silliness just doesn’t wash.

Interesting how the CONs circulated a fake photo to back up their fake claims of a million protestors.

In CON World, one starts with what SHOULD BE true and works backwards. Facts don’t matter when you already know that the CONclusions have to be true.

Tax cuts ALWAYS stimulate the economy . . . nevermind that Clinton raised taxes and the economy boomed while Bush cut taxes and the economy sank.

Gov’t spending to stimulate the economy NEVER WORKS nevermind the many times like the WPA and Cash for Clunkers when it seems to have worked pretty well.

Don’t CONfuse us with the facts. We already know the CONclusions.
