So they said

“If Gary Sherrer runs for governor, I’ll run for lieutenant governor.” — Kansas Board of Regents chairwoman Jill Docking, kidding (we think) during a visit with former Lt. Gov. Sherrer to The Eagle

“I think you better calm down this argument between the mayor and us.” — Sedgwick County Commissioner Gwen Welshimer, to The Eagle, on the city-county confusion over a July 29 meeting

“We need taxes to support their protests.” — Rep. Dale Swenson, D-Wichita, about how Friday’s anti-tax tea party was held at the county-owned and taxpayer-supported Sedgwick County Park

“I’m on socialized medicine. It’s called Medicare. I never have to wait, I choose my own doctors, and I get excellent care. Why should younger people be denied the same thing?” — Dodge City school board president Dan Reichenborn, to Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., at a town meeting last week

    The obvious question, Rhonda –

    After

“I’m on socialized medicine. It’s called Medicare. I never have to wait, I choose my own doctors, and I get excellent care. Why should younger people be denied the same thing?”

What did Sam (the Sham) Brownback say?

Medicare, of course, does not qualify as socialism. Medicare is paid out of social security payments by senior citizens at a cost of some $100/month. Social Security in turn is financed by deductions from citizens’ paychecks over many years. Actuarally, the proceeds should add up to millions of dollars for each senior citizen by the time he retires.

However, there is no buildup of social security funds because the federal government vacuums it up immediately for wasteful uses as soon as the government gets the money in hand.

Also, the prudent senior citizen must purchase a supplemental health plan to augment his Medicare coverage. Supplemental health insurance plans are sold by major health insurance companies such as Blue Cross and Blue Shield, AARP, Farmers Insurance Company, etc. etc. Cost is an additional $150/month.

So senior citizens must pay some $250/month for health care insurance.

And the trend is for doctors too refuse to take Medicare patients supposedly because of the government red tape involved. So in many cases, the $250/month fails to buy health care.

Is this socialism? And is this a program you want to be covered by at a younger age? Would Brownback and Tiahrt be willing to trade in their golden Congressional health coverage plans? You decide.

As a moderate Republican, I am as anxious as anyone to PREVENT Sam Brownback from getting and using the Kansas Governor’s office as a throne to run for President. This would be devasting for Kansas and ruin the relatively good opinion of Kansas nationwide.

If Gary Sherrer can convince Wichita’s Jill Docking to run as Lt. Governor, I’m all for it.

But a decision must be made soon to begin fund raising and organizing a race.

As a Democrat I pray to God that Sam runs for President and he gets the GOP nomination. That will be even more entertaining than watching Palin try to debate President Obama in 2012!!

Doctors are willing to take medicare because they are reimbursed pretty well. A senior does not have to pay a monthly fee in most cases if they sign up for a medicare advantage plane. Some have no monthly fee and in return you will have a higher co-pay. Some have a small monthly premium with a smaller co-pay. They also cover prescriptions and some exercise programs.

Medicaid (welfare) on the other hand does not have enough doctors or dentistsw to take care of everyone. The reimbursed poorly and choose not to take medicaid.

Lack of dental care can be as bad if not worse than having no medical insurance. Many time a health issue is caused by lack of dental care.

Social Security is paid by the worker and their employer. Medicare is also paid by the employee. The cost of these programs are not totally covered with the deductions.

So who changes party? Sherrer or Docking?

Sherrer changing makes more sense because he supports a lot of Dims.
