So they said

parkskelly“Call me a liar, but people up north appreciate me.” — Sedgwick County Commission Chairman Kelly Parks (in photo, of the northern Wichita suburb of Valley Center), on the confusion over whether he and Vice Chairwoman Gwen Welshimer “requested” or just “talked about” an executive session to discuss the county manager’s firing

“I know there are a lot of patriotic Americans who are deeply concerned about this, but I am convinced that President Obama is a natural-born citizen of the United States; additionally, his mother and her parents were born in Kansas.” — Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan.

“It’s the Republicans who are running the same old names, not us.” — Larry Gates, chairman of the Kansas Democratic Party, arguing that the party’s bench is young and strong, “with tremendous potential”

“I love going to Wichita because it’s where I grew up and I’m just always in a good mood when I’m there.” — Gov. Mark Parkinson, on his blog

“She looked like a million bucks and seems to being doing well.” — Parkinson again, on seeing his predecessor, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, at a recent meeting of governors in Mississippi

Hope he doesn’t run in to Bluejay. Bluejay hates Wichita and only presents a gloomy view of the city he is raising his son in.

Oh c’mon Farmgrrl. I mean, the only names left in the quiver for Democrats are pretty much gonna be new ones, right? I mean right??????

The Kansas Democratic Party has been a joke sitting on the sidelines for the last 15 years of Moderate/coalition conservative infighting (actually before that, when Marvin Barkus set out to sabatoge the Hayden Administration just because he was, you know, a Republican).

I was one who welcomed Parks as a breath of fresh air on the County Commission when he came in. I was pleased when he became chair; dealing a blow to the GOBN that had become so firmly entrenched. However, he ahs allowed power to go to his head and he has abused that power much worse than his predeccessors ever did. His has become incredibly corrupt as he works behind closed doors to come up with crazy schemes that he then springs – OFF AGENDA – on the Commission.

It is time for the other Commissioners to put a stop to it – simply vote to table each and every item he brings up off agenda. Then, after proper PUBLIC discussion, consider them.
