The death of 78-year-old columnist Robert Novak seems like the end of an era of political reporting and conservative commentary. Some may know him only as the guy who identified Valerie Plame as a CIA agent (and got away with it). But his insider status and corrosive way with words made him a force in national politics and policymaking, as well as the rise of cable news. The editorial board at his home newspaper, the Chicago Sun-Times, recalled this Novak nugget: “Always love your country — but never trust your government!”

“Always love your country — but never trust your government!”
A wise sentiment, in any country, with any government. It simply recognizes the nature of the Leviathan.
Express your love of country by outing a CIA agent should be his saying.
I used to have some respect for him before the Plame outing, I’ve had no use for him since, cause I love my country and despise a traitor.
I hope he has a slot in the top of his head.
They’ll have to screw the little SOB into the ground.
Even when I thought I was a Republican, I didn’t like him. He made Republican look mean and nasty.
Then I found out Republicans ARE mean and nasty.
Decompose Bob.
We should only say good of the dead.
Robert Novak is dead.
Good.

Who, exactly, is mean and nasty? Pot, meet kettle.
I’ve said it before: get help, JR. The endless hate is eating you up. Even your ideological allies recognize debilitating hate when they see it. Most important, you have a child who will become what he sees – and if your real life is like your online life, it’s driven by who you hate. That’s sad, most of all for that son.
I don’t know who drove the stake in Bob. But thanks.

I truly feel sorry for you. Living with all that hate must make you miserable no matter how much you deny it. I know it made me miserable. Thinking everyone is against you and worrying about things you have no control of is not living.
My my, a clearer picture of the true nature of liberals could not be better exampled than BlueJay and Monkey from their comments.
GMC70,
It used to make me mad when I would read the type of things BlueJay and Monkey would say as you point out above, full of hate and bitterness. But not anymore.
I am almost tickled to see it because I know that hate and bitterness is their own just reward and will eat them from the inside out. Just what they deserve, that and the swine hole they live in.
“and if your real life is like your online life, it’s driven by who you hate. That’s sad, most of all for that son.”
GMC70,
I suspect he hates his son too, after all “BlueJay Sings” when school takes him out of BJ’s responsibility.
Poor kid, maybe BJ should be reported for child abuse.
“Boxlock20″ –
I said only “good” of the dead.
I agree with you kansasmeadowlark, but you have to understand the sick people on we/blog. this is what they do because they do not have a real life to live.
LOL Regular you got everyone there! And even had the link to back it up. So true….
I mean the man hit another human being with his car and drove away.

Who doesn’t?
I would have at least gotten the money out of his wallet to repair my ride…..then drove off.
“I mean the man hit another human being with his car and drove away.”
Which is how it was discovered that he had a brain tumor, which ultimately caused his death you insensitive jack@#$.
I’m just gonna sit back and wait for all the loving posts from WE Blog CONs when Ted Kennedy dies.

Not really – I don’t like the Liberal view of Senator Kennedy, but I do like to hear him speak, especially on historical topics.
He’s like most politician, flaws, but a reasonably decent man.
Live from the afterlife Crossfire.
On the left from the Pantheon for Progressive heroes, Tom Braden. On the right, squatting under a mushroom in hell, Robert Novak.
monkee worth a shut..although ted killed somebody and should have been punished i do not wish that he was dead and will not rejoice when he dies……..you on the other hand are dung (don’t mean to insult true dung)……….if (?) you have family i am sure they are embarrased by you……
I’m not yet convinced that’s the case though.
and bj…………i sincerely wish sombody would take your son and give him a chance in life
bj…..you once told me month’s ago you tried to teach your son of the less fortunate and helping others……..i am convinced you lied and are a nothing in life and in the eyes of your son
boxlock20,
Would it be okay for the Eagle to post false quotes (lies) about what President Obama said, without noting anywhere that it’s satire.
“wichhick” contributes –

Accepted.
“Boxloc20″ gives us –
“It is entirely possible with their closeness to the newspaper industry they thought everyone knew the title of Novak’s book, which is certainly not the case.
Without knowing that, to title a thread over someones death “‘Prince of Darkness’ has died”, is quite a shocker.”
Yeah, right.
It was a beeg secret only us “libruhls” knew about.
Except, of course, for –

But it doesn’t surprise me he died of a cancerous brain.

Rhonda couldn’t handle the criticism.
monkee…………..i said you were dung (look it up in the dictionary) and i was confident your family was embarrassed by you…….. WHAT do you not understand?
shame on you bj……..now go apologize to your son
Some of you obviously knew very little about the person you came here to defend. Novak has been proud for years to be known by that title.
First hit at U.S. Google news:
‘Conservative U.S. commentator Novak dies aged 78′
http://www.reuters.com/article/mediaNews/idUSN1842602420090818
“Robert Novak, a conservative political columnist known as the “Prince of Darkness” and who unleashed a political firestorm by publishing the name of an undercover CIA operative, died on Tuesday. ”
———————–
AP’s column:
“Political columnist Robert Novak, a diehard conservative, pugilistic debater and proud owner of the “Prince of Darkness” moniker, has died after a battle with brain cancer.”
Mark who?
I’m sorry. That was unkind. No doubt this is a difficult day for Mark. And apparently not the first one.
“Hmmmm, my post has magically disappeared.
Rhonda couldn’t handle the criticism.”
Anti – looks more like she white-washed it with a change in title and the magic post eraser.
Wow, Rhonda censored any poster who referenced HER header title!
I reinstate my “Commie” comparison.
Well, don’t anyone confused.
This thread started out with the title “Prince of Darkness” has died.
Several cons, who apparently did not know that Robert Novak was proud to be known by that dark and very descriptive title whined about it.
They were informed of their ignorance several times but kept whining anyway. SO Rhonda changed the title and deleted all posts that referenced it.
It’s cool.
“Novak left a mark”. What a stunning epitaph.
He should have used a coaster.
Wa Po used the ‘Prince of Darkness’ nickname in their headline.
‘Robert Novak, Long-Time Conservative Columnist, Dies at 78
Washington’s ‘Prince of Darkness’ Broke High-Stakes Scoops‘
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/18/AR2009081801761.html?hpid=topnews
“. . . ,” Mr. Novak wrote in his 2007 memoir, “The Prince of Darkness,” which had long been his nickname.”
‘Journalist Robert Novak dies at 78′
http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-robert-novak19-2009aug19,0,4381837.story
“He got his nickname “Prince of Darkness” from friend and fellow journalist John Lindsay of the Washington Post and Newsday, who was struck by Novak’s pessimistic view of the future of Western civilization.”
Anti,
Mine was pulled too. But I don’t care. Like I said (but isn’t there now) I wanted to give Rhonda and the Eagle the benefit of the doubt, and with Rhonda personally saying she meant no offense that is more than good enough for me.
When I first read the title I thought it was incredibly crass, and with no explanation, the words ‘Prince of Darkness is dead’ certainly could be incredibly crass.
I think the subject of the title is past interest now and the merits of the man and what he accomplished should be the subject.
BlueJay, don’t lie….you hadn’t a clue, you have no clue on anything. What an opportunistic fake.
Hey Cosmos,
Who was the “Prince of Darkness”?
Oh now ya done it.
Now I get to make bawks a liar.
Again.
Anybody else see me and other posters inform bawks that Novak was proud to be known as the Prince of Darkness?
I’ll let my word stand against his.
Maybe ANTI and boxlock20 can convince the Wa Po to change their headline, that uses ‘Prince of Darkness’?
‘Robert Novak, Long-Time Conservative Columnist, Dies at 78
Washington’s ‘Prince of Darkness’ Broke High-Stakes Scoops‘
“I’ll let my word stand against his.”
Stand against a parasitic slug, someone so stupid as to make repeated meaningless challenges to settle differences, someone who can’t even take care of his family without government help.
I look for challenges greater than that BlueJay.
And you are a liar to boot.
Uh oh bawks.
Rhonda missed one.

comatose,
The Washington Post doesn’t need to change their headline, they explain in their story, ya dimwit.
She doesn’t censor liars BlowJay, you are a liar.
Here’s another headline for ANTI and boxlock20 to whine about.
‘Robert Novak, Chicago Sun-Times Columnist, “Prince of Darkness” died Tuesday‘
http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2009/08/robert_novak_chicago_sun-times.html
“Chicago Sun-Times columnist Robert Novak, one of the nation’s most influential journalists, who relished his “Prince of Darkness” public persona, died at home here early Tuesday morning after a battle with brain cancer.”
So catch me in one.
Like I just caught you.
No, no, Cosmos,
I’m talking about the “Prince of Darkness”, who is he?
(heh heh)
Quit beating around the bush Cosmos.
boxlock20,
So you didn’t know that Robert Novak’s nickname, and the title of his 2007 memoir, was the ‘Prince of Darkness’? You had to have someone explain that to you?
You are truly a dimwit cosmos and I suspect a liar as well.
The article you reference explains the term ‘Prince of Darkness’, the Eagle’s title did not.
And no I don’t follow Novak that closely and what his nicknames were, I only occasional watch T.V. for that matter.
So what’s your point little person, I think it is simply that you’ve had your ego trampled over your hysterical and meaningless obsession with global warming that you will jump on anything to make yourself look important…..it doesn’t, and you aren’t.
Brain cancer, explains alot, like why he was a republican, and why he outed a CIA agent, must’ve had it all his life.
“Boxlock20″ –
You seem to relish your ignorance.
I’m sure it helps you to do so.
Prince of Darkness could’ve just as well applied to bush jr., if you didn’t know the backstory.
Rhonda, even though this is Ks. don’t let the cons dictate what you can publish, or there’ll be no end to it.
Chimp,
If you consider not keeping up with commentators nicknames to be relishing ignorance then yes I do, and more so in relation to what you think is significant.
By the way, the Eagle pulled their title, even they thought it to be over the top.
I am sorry for anyone who dies of such a horrible disease as brain cancer.
That being said, the nasty, partisan cr*p in this thread is a fitting tribute to Robert Novak, who used to smile whenever someone accused him of going too far with what he said (which happened with great regularity), even when he was on a panel with a minimum of three other right wingers on the McGlaughlin Group. Now, professional nastytrolls like Ann Coulter make Novak appear mild in comparison.
There are some culture warriors and partisan hacks who seemed to genuinely like hard hitting discussion. Novak was one of them. Unlike people like Buchanan, Tucker Carlson, and yes, G. Gordon Liddy, however, I suspect he really didn’t like the people sitting across from him in such a discussion (Crossfire was never worth a damn once Michael Kingsley’s Parkinson’s got the better of him, and Buchanan decided to amuse himself by tilting at presidential windmills).
Whineybabies! Only mark Novak left was a stain on journalist that says they have no code of conduct if it means making headlines, especially when they’re up to their necks in the story.

You got it Anti,
The jawless fish, Agnatha, is a self styled intellectual, in his own mind, who makes a fool of himself at almost every occasion.
Kind of funny really.
Those that may be new and don’t know what an (who) Agnatha is, it is Greek for “no jaws”, which describes him perfectly. Although they are in the subphylum Vertebrata, Agnatha or hagfish technically do not have vertebrae. Which again describes the Agnatha found here on WeBlog to a tee. Spineless, in other words. There you have it!
At least the Agnatha here demonstrates a knowledge of his own character.
Kind of funny really.
=======================
I find it freaking hilarious!
“Ag – or Rachel Maddow… :)”
Not even remotely close. Rachel Maddow is a thoughtful commentator. Definite liberal bias, but no flaming troll like Ann Coulter. The conservative equivalent to a Rachel Maddow would be someone worth listening to even if you don’t agree with him/her…the late William F. Buckley comes to mind. Maybe also George Will (yes, Rachel Maddow is that smart).
A more appropriate liberal comparison to Ann Coulter would be the comic Kathy Griffin (have you ever heard her rants on politics?) or Rosie O’Donnell (and even O’Donnel I don’t consider as nasty as Coulter, and I do not think of O’Donnell as a nice person by any means). There are probably some other prattling trolls on Air America who would qualify as well, and I tolerate “liberal talk radio” every bit as well as right wing Clear Channel nonsense (that is, I don’t tolerate it at all-well, except for Stephanie Miller, she really is funny).
But Rachel Maddow? Absolutely not. Even Keith Olberman is far more of a troll than Rachel Maddow, and he doesn’t come close to Ann Coulter either.
Coulter has nothing redeemable to say whatsoever.

Agnatha,
What is he11 is all that gibberish at 4:13 pm about….I mean who cares what your opinions of those people are. Do you actually think most even bother to read it let alone care?
Oh and comatose, thinking that not knowing the nickname of Novak, who I rarely read or listen to, is a BIG faux pas…..well, yeah right comatose.
I would bet next month pay you didn’t either but simply, as I said earlier, are looking for something to try and make yourself look pertinent, relevant to anything…..nitwit, it won’t work, you aren’t.
to give Novak credit, he and Pat Buchanan were two of the notable Conservatives that said at the beginning that the build up to the invasion of Iraq. Was not based on facts or reality i.e that the Bush administration was not truthful.
Not to Boxlock,
Michael Jackson wasn’t REALLY the King of Pop, it was just a title he relished like Novak and Prince of Darkness. And the Pop doesn’t refer to a soda!
Rhonda KISS.
boxlock20,
Okay, so you criticized the Eagle’s use of a well-known and friendly nickname of a late journalist, who you “rarely read or listen to”.
Agnatha,

Well Boxy, they sure don’t care what you babble on about. At least Agnatha makes sense.
Dennis
munklit…..you remind me of a stain
Novak brought a freshness to the art of reporting. He didn’t back down from the truth even when it was not complimentary to the conservatives. I for one will miss the openness with which he reported.
As for this thread and the libs comments – I hope they save a few of them. Uncle Teddy doesn’t appear to be long for this world. He is suffering from the same type of brain tumor.
Will we have all of the libs talking about the murder of a young woman at the hands of Teddy?
YellowdogLiberal,
How’d ya get to be a ‘yellowdog’ there liberal, can’t keep from p@@ing on yourself like other liberals.
comatose, apparently the criticism of using the nickname without explanation in the contest of his death was enough to get the title changed.
By the way, no one pays attention to little whiners like you comatose, and in-spite of your infatuation with me go away, you are nothing more than an annoying insect.
“As for this thread and the libs comments – I hope they save a few of them. Uncle Teddy doesn’t appear to be long for this world. He is suffering from the same type of brain tumor.”

Yes boxlock20. . . it seems that the Eagle did not want to confuse, and/or upset people like you, who paid their respect to the late journalist by not knowing his long-time nickname used by his friends.
People like boxlock20, who “rarely read or listen to” the late Mr. Novak.
And who didn’t want to bother reading any of the many other news columns today, that explained his ‘Prince of Darkness’ nic.
“As for this thread and the libs comments – I hope they save a few of them. Uncle Teddy doesn’t appear to be long for this world. He is suffering from the same type of brain tumor.””
Boxlock need to save the link to some of these remarks for the old red nosed alcoholic wife-cheating, and young woman murderer Kennedy.
True American_Way, I probably should.
But I don’t want to get down in the sewer with them, especially dimwits like comatose, and…..you know the list well.
Ooops! Scott Reed didn’t explain the nickname, ‘Prince of Darkness‘, he used in his title.
‘Robert Novak: Missing the Prince of Darkness‘
http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1917343,00.html
‘The Heart of the ‘Prince of Darkness’
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/18/AR2009081803520.html
“. . . Novak wrote in “The Prince of Darkness,” the memoir titled with the unflattering nickname he embraced. “
Well, Bob’s dead. That’s a good thing.
And his death helped us learn something today.
Cons are emotionally reactionary and tend to post without really knowing what they are talking about.
Rhonda caves under the slightest pressure from the same reactionary idiots.
Thanks Bob!
Oh and bawks is a liar.
Again.
It appears that the Eagle Editors changed the title from Prince of Darkness. :)
“By the way, no one pays attention to little whiners like you comatose, and in-spite of your infatuation with me go away, you are nothing more than an annoying insect.”
And they say irony is dead.
So says the jawless and spineless fish Agnatha, ha!
And yes they did Regular, proving they too thought without an explanation calling him the ‘Prince of Darkness’ at the time of his DEATH was over the top.
I consider that proving my point as opposed to Agnatha and BlueJay’s tripe.
They just had to remember the old saying “Know your audience” and address them appropiately, you know write at their level.

Yes, it seems it was easier for them to change the title than try to explain a well-known fact to a couple of posters who had a little hissy fit.
“proving they too thought without an explanation calling him the ‘Prince of Darkness’ at the time of his DEATH was over the top.”
This is on the same day they were whining about Nazis.
“The Prince of Darkness” outed an undercover CIA agent.
CONs love that stuff.
But it’s “TREASON” to get a BL0WJ0B.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Poor guy died of a cancerous brain. No surprise, really. We had 40 years of evidence from Novak.
Don Hewitt died, he worked alongside E.R. Murrow, and pioneerd the news broadcast, 60 min., and the televised presidential debates, where’s his thread?
And he liked his “Prince of Darkness” nickname.
