Six takes a personal win into 2010 attorney general race

New AGWith the recent trial and conviction of Kenneth Wilson for the March 2008 shooting death of farmer Scott Noel in Osborne County, Attorney General Steve Six became the first sitting attorney general to personally prosecute a criminal case in Kansas in 34 years. Even with that success, Kansans may wonder whether Six’s time is better spent managing his staff. But in a new commentary, Six wrote that to be a good leader he needs to be active in court, “setting an example for other attorneys in my office. I can do that by prosecuting criminal cases and arguing before the United States Supreme Court on behalf of Kansas farmers who desperately need precious water for their crops and livestock.”
That courtroom win also won’t hurt the Democrat’s campaign next year. But against whom? Perhaps Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt, R-Independence, will challenge Six. Schmidt has said he will announce his plans soon; beyond the attorney general job, Schmidt’s options include the 4th Congressional District seat and secretary of state.

    I thought Ralph DeZoga filed to run as an Attorney Genreral Candidate. He is currently the Junction City Kansas Prosecutor. He was an Assistant A.G.. Heck it was the Wichita Eagle/Kansas dot com that made the anouncement. How soon they forget their own stories. So, if he’s so tough, why is Six afraid of Seven?

    Any attorney can take on a slam dunk case in court. Just ask Nola.

    OK, Six is afraid of Seven because Seven ate Nine.

    My four year old niece told me that one.

    Seven was terrified by her husband, a repub that wanted to do her in a cage on stage.

    There’s a reason a sitting AG hadn’t personally tried a criminal case in 34 years: that’s not his job. His job is to be an policy-maker and administrator, not a trial attorney (they have plenty of attorneys for that). Trying cases is public relations, and little more. His time is better spent with his actual duties.

    Other than that, he’s doing fine.

    Too true. You might want to clarify that your reference for the readers who aren’t both Trek geeks AND political junkies refers to Jeri Ryan, who played Seven of Nine on Star Trek Voyager.

    Her former husband ran for US Senate in Illinois. During the campaign, the reason for the divorce became public–Wannabe Sen. Jack used to take his wife to sex clubs etc.

    You claim that investigating torture or Cheney’s violation of laws regarding Congressional oversight of the CIA is simply political.

    You never answered my questions from yesterday.

    * was Pinochet’s conviction political?

    * was Ceausecu’s hanging political?

    * were the Nuremburg trials political?

    I gotta go with “no,” it was justice finally played out, but hey that’s just me.

    When you compare mass murder of civilians and ethnic cleansing with enhanced interrogation techniques of un-uniformed enemy combatants your partsianship has taken over your grip on reality.
    Just my opinion.

    Mass murder of civilians is what we did when we invaded the entirety of Iraq to get one guy, Saddam Hussein based on Bush lies.

    But thanks for playing, Kia.

    BTW, ever heard of question begging?

    Because that’s what you’re doing.

    How do we know they’re terrorists?
    When we torture them, they confess to being terrorists.

    Not a valid conclusion.

    Were you there?

    Were you in Germany in 1945, Kia?

    Or Romania in the ’90’s?

    Question Begging 101

    How do we know that the prisoners are terrorists?

    Because they are imprisoned in Guantanemo Bay Prison, the prison for terrorists.

    But how do we know they SHOULD be in Gitmo Prison?

    Because they’re terrorists.

    See how simple it is. Everybody we torture and kill is a terrorist. We know this because we wouldn’t have tortured or killed them if they weren’t terrorists.

    I spelled his name wrong. He is Ralph DeZago. I read up on him. He seems extremely sincere and qualified. So far looking at all Candidates for the position of Kansas Attorney General, I would go with Mr. Ralph DeZago. The prisoners were picked up on the battlefied! Where’s the battlefield? Spin around in a circle, you’ll see it.
