One encouraging sign of life for the Republican Party is that it is recruiting some quality candidates to run for Congress next year, Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post reported. One reason for this success is that, though President Obama’s personal approval rating remains high, some of his policies don’t poll as well, which creates openings for Republicans. Another key has been the public disapperance President George W. Bush, who harmed Republican candidates in recent election. The GOP is particularly targeting districts that voted for John McCain in the presidential race but elected Democratic members of Congress.

I doubt Republican policies would poll very well. The policy of playing fiddles while America falls apart isn’t exactly a winning policy. Yes, I understand Republicans have other policies, like bank deregulation, tax cuts for the rich, privatizing social security, cutting education, eliminating health programs and bombing third world countries. Those don’t tend to be very popular policies.
Signs of life in the GOP would be great news for the country, imo. Our entire legal system is based on confrontation, which implies two sides are vested in at least two different outcomes. As Americans, we all benefit when both of those sides are represented.
Hopefully these new “quality” GOP recruits are of the non-nutcase variety (and it makes sense that they are if they’ve already thrown out a nutcase in favor of a Dem). If so, then we’ll all benefit.
Here’s to the GOP’s swift return to rational thought. It’s about time, guys.
Lost in the detritus of Repubic Party meltdowns of Mark Sanford, the Moose-Dresser, and John Ensign is how CONs tend to embrace useful idiots they can manipulate from behind the scenes.
They hit on that when Reagan’s mind started deteriorating due to Alzheimer’s Disease. They manufactured Shrub, the brush-clearing “rancher” who thought Christ was a philosopher.
Back in August, 2008, there was plenty of speculation Mark Sanford was in the running as McCain’s vice-presidential pick. Strong southern politician, good anti-Clinton credentials (mostly on the basis of “family values”), and he looks presidential on-camera. At the time, someone probably discovered, Sanford was racking up taxpayer financed frequent-flyer points to boink his Argentinian hottie.
So we got Caribou Barbie instead. Spunky! Like the Flying Nun in party-financed Prada! The Wasilla Snow-billies with Jethro off to war, Elly Mae knocked up, and a potential First Grandchild whose pram needs a “My Other Granny is a Crack Dealer” bumper sticker.
Yeah. That was considered a step up from Mark Sanford for the GOP.
Through all this, John Ensign is boinking the help and his best friend’s wife while he’s Sam (the Sham) Brownback’s roomie at “the house on C Street.” But Ensign looked presidential and had won some elections in Nevada… a state the Repubic Party is desperate to retain… so the Family on C Street dedicated its efforts for six months or more to playing-down, covering-up, and minimalizing Ensign’s confusion over the difference between “libertarian” and “libertine.”
These are (or were) the Repubic Party’s new rising stars.
The GOP is no longer a viable political entity. It’s a tiny little car with more clowns than you can imagine.
They’ve released the Moose-Dresser’s official gubernatorial portrait –

I think the Republicans should change their mascot to a turtle, and have it laying upside down it’s shell, such has it shows in the picture above. And the Democrats should change theirs to the Hare. In real life, the Hare always wins. The turtle is slow to move, and quit to react defensibly by crawling and hiding it’s soft cold blooded body behind a hard exterior shell. lol
Oops!
This is the correct link to the portrait –

If there is to be life in the GOP, then they need to figure out who is in charge – the real fiscal conservatives or the right-wing social conservatives. I see alot of finger pointing at what went wrong and they followed George W. Bush over the cliff, yada, yada, yada.
But the truth remains, everyone of the Republicans in office – including Sanford and Ensign – went along and rubber stamped everything GWB did.
So is GWB really to blame or does that blame go wide and deep into the GOP?
As for the right-wing of the GOP – these people need to be told to either get their sex-crazed libidos under control or hit the road.
It’s hard to try to sell those ‘family values’ and ‘traditional marriage’ to the public when their GOP right-wingers are out making a mockery out of marriage.
The Monkeyhawk offers:
“So we got Caribou Barbie instead. Spunky! Like the Flying Nun in party-financed Prada! The Wasilla Snow-billies with Jethro off to war, Elly Mae knocked up, and a potential First Grandchild whose pram needs a ‘My Other Granny is a Crack Dealer’ bumper sticker. ”
Dude, you’re cracking me up.
One correction, though, I think the other granny was actually a meth dealer – much higher class marketeer, you know?
“HUBRIS” Excessive pride, presumption or arrogance (originally toward the gods).
One thing said to have been a downfall for the Bush Administration was their hubris.
I am seeing the same mistake being made by some of those now seeing themselves in power. Failing of policy is one thing, but not taking into account that you can fail by not taking care to make good policy is Hubris.
Yet another Brownlee post attacking the GOP.
Is Brownlee scared of posting a topic negative/critical about O’BAMA?
Yes, I think he is.
If this is the best Brownlib can do in attacking the GOP, which I think is highly inaccurate, I would say this effort is pretty sad.
Typical day for the WEblog libs. First we bash the GOP and then turn it into a bash Palin bash.
What a group of slackards. Do you have an original thought among you?
StevenD get really brave this morning and tell us what you think about he democrat party and their policies right now. What about that prez you elected. How do you think he is doing?
Great.
There’s having tawdry affairs, then there’s finding your REAL SOULMATE, the two should never be confused. Conservative Values 101.
“Recent polling suggests that while President Obama remains extremely popular personally, the popularity of his policies — particularly on the economy — is flagging somewhat.”

Let’s see, when you Blindly Follow a Leader even though you disagree with what he is doing, what is that called?
A CULT.
Obama Lovers, Welcome to The Obama Cult!
“A new Quinnipiac University survey of Ohio voters showed that 49 percent approved of the job Obama is doing while 44 percent disapproved, a massive drop-off from an early May Q poll that showed Obama riding high at 62 percent approve/31 percent disapprove.”

With ratings going down faster then Monica Lewinsky, Republicans could run, well Monica Lewinsky, and pick up a few seats.
At the DemUnderground, at least one sees what’s going on:
Exactly and while party members blindly follow the leaders. We are entering the fascist state.

Regular,
How do you manage to misconstrue those words as an “attack” on the GOP? I’m beginning to think that rank and file Republicans are starting to suffer from mass Palinitis whereby any perceived criticism is automatically raised to the level of an attack.
Break out the crying towels.

===========================
Because it is Liberal propaganda.
In the popular vote there was a 6.5 percent difference in the Presidential election. That means the Republican Party is not as weak as the detractors claim it is.
– Get a clue – Palin isn’t running for anything now.
– There are no key Republicans running for any kind of office now.
What should be in the topics and is available in the news are topics on those in power – the Democratic Party and their President.
– How is the war going in Afghanistan and who died?
– O’BAMA’s economic policy, how it is not working
– Taxes and more taxes, the policy of the Democratic Party
etc. etc.
Brownlee is scared to death to be critical of O’BAMA and the Democratic party.

When comparing Job Approval data from different firms, it’s important to keep in mind that polls of likely voters and polls of all adults will typically and consistently yield different results. In the case of President Obama, polls by all firms measuring all adults typically show significantly higher approval ratings than polls of likely voters. Polls of registered voters typically fall in the middle. Other factors are also important to consider when comparing Job Approval ratings from different polling firms.
Ok Chas, based on your bold numbers,

Monkeyhawk hits it right on the nose. And, as usual, the cons on the blog start to sputter about anything and everything else. Sputter and attack. Don’t think, don’t offer any suggestions, just sputter and attack.
How very Republican of them.

If you check the Rasmussen analysis, it is clear that “strongly approve” and “strongly approve” are the extremes of the poll results… The more indicative statistics, according to Rasmussen, are the “Total Approve” and “Total Disapprove” figures.
I like the concept of total control by representatives who represent my core beliefs as much as the next person.
In reality, the country seemed to work a whole lot better with the actual law makers (House & Senate) as Republicans with a Democrat signing the papers and taking the credit.
I firmly believe the GOP will make significant gains in the House and Senate in 2010.
No attack on Rasmussen, Johnson…
Just clarifying your mentally deficient USE of the Poll figures…
So we got Caribou Barbie instead. Spunky! Like the Flying Nun in party-financed Prada! The Wasilla Snow-billies with Jethro off to war, Elly Mae knocked up, and a potential First Grandchild whose pram needs a “My Other Granny is a Crack Dealer” bumper sticker.
So True Yellowdog, the above account by Monkeyhawk is a constructive defense of Democratic party policy. Is this the policy that is proving to be unpopular?
” I firmly believe the GOP will make significant gains in the House and Senate in 2010.”

Ya gotta love irony – when the Libs do it – it’s hilarious.
f you dimlibs would ever pull your heads out of your tiny brown eye you would realize the republicans are polling quite well now, their numbers getting better. In the mean time, as the dumbest among us start to pay attention, President Obama is starting to tank.
Republicans are polling better than democrats on 8 out of the 10 top issues.
It seems the dims are losing ground the fastest in the ‘blue states’!

The GOP is on life support and their oxygen deprived brains are making them escatic!
If there is a God in Heaven, the Rapture will come soon and all the righteous Republicans will be whisked away to their Heavenly Father and the rest of the Earth can live in peace.
Then God will banish all the hypocritical Republicans to Hell, where they will weep and gnash their teeth for all Eternity.
“As you do unto the least of these, you do also unto Me.” JC of Nazareth.

WSClark, you are one convoluted christian. Having a hard time differentiate between what you believe, and what you think republicans believe?
I’ll bet you appear cross-eyed when you shake the pastors hand after services.
Chickens twitch and flap like they’re alive after their heads have been cut off . . . but it’s not a sign of life.
Capn, Your post reminds me of a science project I once had. The teacher lit a candle at the front of the class and told us to answer the question.
Is the candle alive?
“WSClark, you are one convoluted christian.”
I am not a Christian, AmWay, and haven’t been for over a decade. Further, I reject all religion and focus on spirituality and my personal belief in a benevolent God.
Very nice.
I could tell you similiar story.
Will you look at metheor shower this night?
I read it will be great show.
