Sanford at the bat

sanfordmark2The saga of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has inspired a rewriting of “Casey at the Bat,” which concludes:
“A hundred eyes were on him as he fumbled with his thoughts,
“They watched him struggle with the trouble his actions had done wrought;
“He labored more of other women of whom he shared some wine,
“Though quickly added he hadn’t crossed the forbidden line.”

“Oh somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright,
“The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light;
“And somewhere men are laughing, and little children shout,
“But there’s no joy in Charleston—mighty Sanford has struck out.”

    Sanford has struck out and needs to leave the field. Perhaps move to South America, was it Bolivia or Argentina? Who knows … if he speaks Spanish, he might be able to run for president down there.

    Why did Sanford leave his hot little firecracker in Argentina on the 4th of July?

    Since Jenny wants to reconcile, perhaps it’s time they all got together and worked out a schedule or something.

    She could teach the boys Spanish.

    Turn a lemon into lemonaid ya know.

    ooops…being Republicans all they can do is cry and whine and quit.

    For a long time it’s appeared the Repubic Party is no longer a political force, but an ideology-driven movement.

    As long as Sanford was boinking his Argentinian hottie, but speaking of “family values,” it didn’t matter to the GOP.

    He was a star in the Repubic Party!

    David Vitter can pay hookers to dress him up in diapers and call gender-neutral marriage perversion and that’s just fine for the GOP.

    Larry Craig could tap his foot from a “wide stance” in an anonymous public restroom but still assume some self-imagined moral high ground.

    If the Moose-Dresser can’t stand up to a late-nite talk-show host, how might she react to Vladimir Putin?

    In the 19th Century there was the “Know-Nothing” party. It met with practical political oblivion.

    The 21st Century gives ud the “No-to-Everything” party. They’re headed the same way.

    He should have done the honorable thing, if he no longer Loved his wife and did Love another woman. He should have before starting the affair asked for a divorce.
    How much respect could he have for his wife if after pleading his Love for the other woman in public. If she were to keep him? How much self respect could his wife have?

    This all has been a very much a human tale, illogical, emotional and failing from the start.

    Sanford’s wife is probably an abused woman with no self-respect left.
