If President Obama is an ungodly socialist, as some people think, what is Pope Benedict? The pope this week decried the “scandal of glaring inequalities” in the world economy and supported the redistribution of wealth. He also argued that “lowering the level of protection accorded to the rights of workers, or abandoning mechanisms of wealth redistribution in order to increase the country’s international competitiveness, hinder the achievement of lasting development.” The pope disagreed with those who believe that the economy should be free of government regulation, and he supported “a political, juridical and economic order” that can help “manage the global economy.”

The One has spoken and the Pope bows to His Holiness.
Gee CONS…looks like your whining, crybaby, quitter ways are doomed to failure.
Long live the ONE!!!!
The Pope, Obama, I worship neither man.
I pity you, satatom.
The Pope, Obama and Satatom walk into a bar….
Yes, the Pope is a well known financial adviser…
I wonder if the Pope borrowed that
gold cross around his neck from Mr. T?
I’m saved and have eternal life.

You have to worship Obama or the Pope to be saved?
I think you are going about this the wrong way.

Actually, those people are called Climate scientists. They prefer not having a title that doesn’t prejudice a finding before it is determined with precision scientific observations.
If President Obama is an ungodly socialist, as some people think, what is Pope Benedict?

That would be a Godly socialist. They both take money they haven’t earned and give it to people who haven’t earned it.
Irony, isn’t the definition something akin to a wealthy institution like the Catholic Church decrying greed and the hoarding of wealth? No, that’s just hypocritical.
Being on the same philosphical track as the Catholic church does not bode well for Obama’s chances of fixing anything.
From Time Magazine, February 1965:
“Bankers’ best guesses about the Vatican’s wealth put it at $10 billion to $15 billion.”
The Pope “supported the redistribution of wealth.”
From NPR:
“Day to Day, March 11, 2008 · In an effort to appeal to the modern Catholic, the Vatican has announced a list of seven new mortal sins. Some of the new don’ts: thou shalt not pollute and thou shalt not have too much money.”
That’s it, CONs!
Attack the Pope!
Nothing wrong with that approach to politics.
I am surprised to learn that Maggotpunk is one of those CONs Monkeyhawk is always wailing about.
Looks like the 285ers, just became the 15%ers, the pope has great influence among ‘the believers’.
Next cons will be whining that religous leaders should not make public statements about social/economic issues!
Cons are like the families on wife swap that when it becomes time for the other side to make the rules, they don’t want to play anymore!
285ers+28%ers
Yes Phantom, because all CONs are Catholic…..
Damn.
the pope has great influence among ‘the believers’.

Says who??:
“On a range of issues — including premarital sex, birth control, the death penalty, ordaining women and allowing priests to marry — majorities of American Catholics differ with the pope. About six in 10 call the church out of touch with the views of American Catholics.”
Personally, I doubt very much that God has a fiscal or monetary policy preference, though apparantly the Pope does. Why the Pope’s policy preferences in matters of economic policy should have any particular weight is beyond me.
Were I consulting him on matters of faith and Catholic doctrine, that would be different, of course.
And I reject entirely any claim that the Pope has any special pipeline to God, claims of the Catholic Church notwithstanding . . .
I’d guess about 13% are.
I’d guess his pipeline is much more reliable than bush’s was.
If I remember correctly the Vatican also supported Hitler and Pedophile Preists…..
Just like the libtards…
So probably right about redistributing the wealth….
The Pope is effectively saying that his church has no meaningful purpose on this planet.
It is the government’s responsibility for charity?
Nope.
“From Time Magazine, February 1965:
“Bankers’ best guesses about the Vatican’s wealth put it at $10 billion to $15 billion.””
Yeah, that source is a bit dated. I’m thinking the Vatican doesn’t want to release its net worth since lawyers for victims of pedophile priests would know they could up the damages a bit.
The Vatican is doing well for itself in these bad times, their business is pulling in a tidy profit.

Take a look beyond Obama and our borders if you can for a second and grasp who the Pope is. He’s talking about a world view. World wealth distribution to garner development in third world countries.
The poorest in the US look pretty good on the world’s stage.
Yeah, that source is a bit dated.

68 Billion
That was bush’s philosophy, embraced by corporations, take the wealth/jobs from the U.S. and distribute them to third world countries; give it a snazzy name like ‘Global Economy’.
Fleetie,
$68 Billion? Hell, the market value of just the artwork in the Vatican Museum is at least triple that! Add to that their real estate and stock portfolios and gold reserves and the cash value of the Catholic Church is at the very least a trillion bucks!

Tree fiddy.
So the Pope comes out in favor of socialism? How long will it be before he espouses women’s rights and reproductive freedom, and ending discrimination against gay people?
Fleety, so you are saying that they didn’t prosper much beyond inflation? I’m guessing their shares of BP and Shell must have been running flat all those years. It’s just odd that you have concluded that their huge amounts of real estate never increased in value either.
I’m curious as to how you concluded their current net worth based upon a 1965 figure. Since you’ve stated you are so much smarter than me perhaps you could point to some information where the Vatican published its net worth. I figured they kept all that information private in their own Vatican bank.
The Pope is a Big Balla’, straigh up pimpin’ dat cash, yo.
A big reason not to pay any attention to him. Do not get caught up in the new “economic justice” mantra of the left.
The world doesnt work that way. You can get an equal OPPORTUNITY to do something….you do NOT get an equal OUTCOME. This is what Obama minions are pushing.
This “econ. justice” crap is being instituted in major universities and most law schools, so be on the lookout for all kinds of lawsuits if things are not EQUAL in outcome.
Its something like affirmative action on steroids. They will come and take your to give away to others simply due to it not being fair some are losers.
Look at the housing situation we just went through. For gods sake, Cong. Barney Frank is trying to get it started again by using more government money to make loans to more irresponsible people for a home. He is the one that started this with his ludicrous “Community Reinvestment Act” and forced agencies to loan to those that cant maintain a car, let alone a home.
There are some people that are simply incapable of maintaining their life and deserve disdain, not more of our money.
Ant,
You really ought to spend some real on-ground time in NE Wichita.
the cash value of the Catholic church is a trillion bucks

It is only a guess how many billions the catholic church has…but, it is hard to take the pope’s statement seriously unless he starts giving away the Vatican’s fortunes….
riiiiiight. Like THAT is going to happen….

Exactly. I’m guessing some liberal kool-aide is making it’s way in with the wine. Not my money. However I know what’s best with yours.
Granted, the catholic church does give untold millions to those in need…but, let’s see some real ‘wealth distribution’. Dump the limos, the private Vatican jets, the posh surroundings and give it all away. Otherwise, it is pure hypocrisy to bemoan the “scandal of glaring inequalities”…
Raptor –
The limousine liberal set knows all about hypocricy. That’s why they prefer to spend YOUR money to fix their chosen ills . . . . .
The Pope is right to speak out against the economic and social injustice. Those who have might do well to listen.
These things have a way of working themselves out but in a less than peaceful way.
Why aren’t the conservatives in love with the Catholic church? After all, the Pope is God’s representative on Earth and their hero, President Reagan, gave them state status so the taxpayer foots the bill for every Pope visit.
Never saw the pope as a socialist, gee who knew? Catholics wooo hooo. Now who you gonna listen to?
Never saw the pope as a socialist, gee who knew?

What else would you call someone who wants “mechanisms of wealth redistribution”?
After all, the Pope is God’s representative on Earth
=========================
Not to me.
The Pope is just another man flesh and blood, he just falsely elevates his stature as in between God and us mortals.
To me there is no ‘middle man’ in my relationship with God. After all, the Pope(middle management) doesn’t pull much weight on whether my soul is saved.
So catholics should get behind Obama all the way.
But make sure they have their condoms hidden in their pockets, or they are stuck with the Knaus-Ogino Method. Or they can always abstain. But that’s not any fun.
And when the infalliable pope dies, then the next pontiff can dictate something new – but surely from God too.
Yeah ANTI,
But I bet you don’t wear fancy robes and a tall hat on your job either.
Suddenly, the leader who says earth has only existed 4,000 years is a lib friend.
Amazing!
Pro-life? Abortions are bad?

Pope Benedict ‘believes in evolution’
…However, he did not adopt a strictly scientific view of the origins if life, believing instead that God created life through evolution.
He said he “would not depend on faith alone to explain the whole picture”.
As well as praising scientific progress, the Pope’s views, published in a new book ‘Schoepfung unt Evolution’ (Creation and Evolution), did not endorse the creationist, or ‘intelligent design’ view of life’s origins.

One thing you gotta admire about A_Way.
He’s never let mere facts stand in the way of his opinions.
lol
Despite the garb, doesn’t the pope look half-black?
I’m a protestant. I know why we call ourselves ‘protestants’ too. Now I’m sure the Pope is a very good man but he is not the ‘man’ I look to for my spiritual guidance.
“is not the ‘man’ I look to for my spiritual guidance.”
But it’s now O.K. to look to him for your scientific guidance. He is now “one of them”.
Did the pope cite a particular verse with his support statement?
Must be one the libs agree is part of the Truth and the Way.
Obama and now the Pope!
Everyone is jumpin on the Socialist Band Wagon!
You watch, soon the Pope will come out FOR ABORTION and Birth Control next!
Looks like all of you have forgotten some basic history… The Pope is not JUST the head of the Roman Catholic Church… He is also the Chief of State of the Vatican… The Vatican is a NATION…. small maybe, but still a NATION…
That is why the Pope has government funded protection when he visits foreign nations… NOT because he is head of the ROMAN Catholic Church…
The Pope is also the Bishop of Rome.

Hell the wealthy are the most socialist of them all. They have tightly woven social circles, connections, hook ups, the buddy system, just because it’s not written into law and made into a government program, dosen’t mean it’s not socialism.
Well, I’m generalizing, I’m should be more specific, and say the, Social Elite. Instead of just “wealthy”.
Only bush was infallible, just ask him or the bushies.
