Pope supports new economic order

Pope USIf President Obama is an ungodly socialist, as some people think, what is Pope Benedict? The pope this week decried the “scandal of glaring inequalities” in the world economy and supported the redistribution of wealth. He also argued that “lowering the level of protection accorded to the rights of workers, or abandoning mechanisms of wealth redistribution in order to increase the country’s international competitiveness, hinder the achievement of lasting development.” The pope disagreed with those who believe that the economy should be free of government regulation, and he supported “a political, juridical and economic order” that can help “manage the global economy.”

Personally, I doubt very much that God has a fiscal or monetary policy preference, though apparantly the Pope does. Why the Pope’s policy preferences in matters of economic policy should have any particular weight is beyond me.

Were I consulting him on matters of faith and Catholic doctrine, that would be different, of course.

And I reject entirely any claim that the Pope has any special pipeline to God, claims of the Catholic Church notwithstanding . . .

Yeah, that source is a bit dated. I’m thinking the Vatican doesn’t want to release its net worth since lawyers for victims of pedophile priests would know they could up the damages a bit.

The Vatican is doing well for itself in these bad times, their business is pulling in a tidy profit.

I’m curious as to how you concluded their current net worth based upon a 1965 figure. Since you’ve stated you are so much smarter than me perhaps you could point to some information where the Vatican published its net worth. I figured they kept all that information private in their own Vatican bank.

A big reason not to pay any attention to him. Do not get caught up in the new “economic justice” mantra of the left.

The world doesnt work that way. You can get an equal OPPORTUNITY to do something….you do NOT get an equal OUTCOME. This is what Obama minions are pushing.

This “econ. justice” crap is being instituted in major universities and most law schools, so be on the lookout for all kinds of lawsuits if things are not EQUAL in outcome.

Its something like affirmative action on steroids. They will come and take your to give away to others simply due to it not being fair some are losers.

Look at the housing situation we just went through. For gods sake, Cong. Barney Frank is trying to get it started again by using more government money to make loans to more irresponsible people for a home. He is the one that started this with his ludicrous “Community Reinvestment Act” and forced agencies to loan to those that cant maintain a car, let alone a home.

There are some people that are simply incapable of maintaining their life and deserve disdain, not more of our money.

    Pope Benedict ‘believes in evolution’

…However, he did not adopt a strictly scientific view of the origins if life, believing instead that God created life through evolution.

He said he “would not depend on faith alone to explain the whole picture”.

As well as praising scientific progress, the Pope’s views, published in a new book ‘Schoepfung unt Evolution’ (Creation and Evolution), did not endorse the creationist, or ‘intelligent design’ view of life’s origins.
