Palin stepping down

Palin ResigningAlaska Gov. Sarah Palin has decided to resign. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will take over on July 26, according to the Anchorage Daily News. “Once I decided not to run for re-election, I also felt that to embrace the conventional ‘lame duck’ status in this particular climate would just be another dose of ‘politics as usual,’ something I campaigned against and will always oppose,” Palin said at a news conference in Wasilla. “It is my duty to always protect our great state. With that in mind, my family and I determined that it is best to make a difference this summer, and I am willing to change things, so that this administration, with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future, can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success.”
What’s next? “I look forward to helping others — to fight for our state and our country, and campaign for those who believe in smaller government, free enterprise, strong national security, support for our troops and energy independence.”
If this is her way of building up her executive experience and reform record toward a 2012 presidential run, it’s a funny way to do it. “We’ve seen a lot of nutty behavior from governors and Republican leaders in the last three months, but this one is at the top of that,” GOP strategist John Weaver said. Then again, there is nothing conventional about Palin.

Daffy Duck + Eva Peron = Sarah Palin.

However, CF2K absolutely does NOT understimate Sarah Palin’s capacity for self-reinvention and taste for demagogy and the backlash politics of Wingnut victimization. She’s got some of Huey Long’s skill for manipulation, but wedded to that faux-Right Wing populism in which the big guys refashion themselves as little guys.

She’ll never win the Presidency. But she could well end up the Presidential candidate of an aggrieved, Repuke backlash party.

It is amazing how terrified the libs are of Palin. They have no limits to the depths of their depravity in attacking her. As part of her resignation announcement, she said how she and her husband have close to half a million in personal legal fees spent to set the record straight and refute the low level, bottom feeding attacks.

At least she had more executive level government experience than the community organizer bho did.

  14. CF2K

    Raptor,

And there we go! Finally, a Wingnut willing to suit up and show up.

Of course, Raptor, it’s a bit of a problem that the legal fees in question were incurred as a result of an investigation run by the Alaska Attorney General, long before Palin’s run for the Vice-Presidency.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_Public_Safety_Commissioner_dismissal#Alaska_Attorney_General_.28internal_investigation.29

But we all understand that you have to read from the “those mean old elitist liberals sure victimized me!” script that Sarah Palin herself handed down at her “press conference.” And we also understand that, for Palin and her minions-like you, Raptor–facts never ought to get in the way of a good “I’m a victim of the liberal media!” narrative.

As for being “scared” of her, Raptor, I absolutely am: the thought of Sarah Palin in the Presidency of the United States is enough to make me want to move to a different planet.

And finally, as for “attacking” Sarah Palin, well, Raptor, if today proved anything, it’s that the “liberals” aren’t Sarah Palin’s worst enemy: that would be Sarah Palin herself.

  15. Raptor
    Posted July 3, 2009 at 5:21 pm | Permalink

I am more terrified of a president who acts like a dictator, taking over businesses, creating a skyrocketing deficit while trying to spend our way out of a recession. I am terrified of how the unemployment continues to rise regardless of the mythical ’saved jobs’ sound bites.

And I am terrified of a ‘health plan’ that will fine people $1,000 who don’t have health insurance. Now THAT makes a lot of sense (not).

Yes…there is a lot to be scared of, but it is not the soon to be former governor of Alaska. It is the tax/spend dictator in the White House.

But let’s DO focus on Sarah’s victimization at the hands of a mean, bad, “elite liberal media,” shan’t we? After all, that’s the story today, tomorrow, and every day for you poor, put upon, victims such as yourself, isn’t it Raptor?

Do you believe, Raptor, that Sarah Palin ought to have resigned the governorship of Alaska prior to finishing out her term? And do you believe that her situation was SO untenable that she was no longer able to govern?

She doesn’t announce that she’s foregoing a second term, even though most news outlets were so incredulous of her up and quitting that they ran a “breaking news” headline of something like “Palin will annnounce she won’t run for a second term,” not “Palin is qutting.” I mean, who could believe she would do that.

You got that, her behavior in public, and the Purdum piece in VF. Even if you believe it’s just a political hatchet job, there’s more than enough there to give you pause when it comes to judging Sarah’s character.

The day before Independence Day. And on the first day of a long holiday weekend, with the next time the talkin’ heads meetin’ bein’ Sunday morning. That’ll be the next time open to her to explain this to most of America. Leaving the rest of us free to speculate while we’re standin’ around grillin’ and shootin’ the breeze. All day long tomorrow. On Independence Day. Is she crazy? Pregnant? Why did she quit anyway? She’s a quitter. No she’s not! Son, she up and quit her dang job, that by definition makes her a quitter… Etc. You can imagine.

And her family. And her supporters.

The unassailable fact is that Sarah Palin quit her job today. By all accounts — except hers — this was unanticapated. Out of the blue. Her main spokeswoman was in NYC, it was so sudden. Perhaps approaching extemporaneous is more descriptive of her decision to hold a press conference this afternoon, according to some.

Very curious indeed. I don’t think this was in the cards at all. Something happened very recently, perhaps today, and boom she’d had enough.

    Nalin Palin

Eldest daughter got pregnant at the worst timing

Did a horrible job, during mulitiple live and televised interviews with Katie Couric

Was endlessly made fun of, and breathed new life into Tina Fey’s career, then volunteered to make a fool of herself and host SNL, trying to appear to be gracious, but it backfired horribly

Lettermen making joke about eldest daughter having sex with a Yankee, but mistook the joke being about her youngest daughter, and over reacted to a lame late night joke anyway.

Let’s see, Palin’s story of witch doctor blessings, and cell phone annointings and a husband who was “accidentally” a member of a breakaway party for SEVEN years – that she as gov of Alaska just accidentally addressed – and the mother of an unwed-mother daughter as she faces numerous ethics complaints against her as governor and is now the quitter who has demonstrated she can dish it out, but she can’t take it.

And, where is our current VP Joe Biden – tucking his tail and running because he can’t take it? Oh no, he’s in Iraq risking having his butt shot off acting as an international statesman and helping to oversee getting American troops out of the Bush war of choice. And taking a moment out to visit his officer son who is serving his country in wartime.

And what do the Wingnuts think? They think Palin who can see Russia from her house and whose unwed-mother daughter CHOSE not to have an abortion should be America’s president.

Please, Wingnuts, tell me this is about “morals” and character – and let’s discuss that. Because, frankly, you have and understand neither as per your CHOICE of presidential candidates.

If she decides to run for President in 2012, the cries of “how can she do her JOB as Governor?”(it’s more than 1,000 miles from the continental US where she needs to spend most of her time) are gone.

And at the same time you accuse me of “singing a different tune” when it comes to African American fire fighters who were given an opportunity for promotion and didn’t quite cut the mustard.

    Here’s a photo from the Moose-Dressers 4th of July party –

    http://www.runnersworl.com/photo/sarahpalin/slide7.html

Next to the barbecued baby seal buffet, close to the sauce ladle, a handy red-white-and-blue napkin to sop up the spills!

BTW, did anyone stick to the end of Bible Spice’s “press” conference, when the camera turned around and revealed a live audience of five people (identified as her next-door neighbors!)?

Has anyone read the transcript of her remarks. It could be an effective field sobriety test; if you can follow it, you’re drunk.

And if you’re really upset by media attention focused on your family, why do line up all the kids and the snow-machine racer to pad the stage as you hold a “press” conference for your neighbors.

(And did you see Willow? I’m wondering whether that whole Letterman flap was really about his revealing a family secret. I’m not an expert on 14-year-olds, but I thought that was around the age of losing your baby fat; not packing it on.)

And then there was Todd strapped into his Sunday-Go-To-Meetin’ clothes. I’m sure he’d look more comfortable in work clothes… as he and “a few of the buddies” built their $200,000 house for $73,000, thanks to those “buddies” not being needed those days to construct the Wasilla Downtown Arena up the street at premium prices.

Here’s an issue you CONs might try:

“If we take away her house, we’ll lose that porch with a vantage point for Russia!”

I should write for Glen Beck.

Well that, and nobody runs on their own personal platform. They run of a well versed and constructed platform, supplied by the people who are funding their run into office.

That might not be entirely true though. Palin’s views seemed a little out of line, of McCains views. The people who funded McCain were probably kicking themselves in the head, for his decision to pick Palin as his running mate.

I agree that there are probably many Americans who are able and fit to lead the US as president, but who’ve become wealthy by now. Wealth has the obvious “income effect” of making its holders more aware of the true value of privacy and free time. Their fortune, our loss.

Part of the reason the President of the United States is a challenging job is the person is the only-est person on the planet all Americans can vote on.

That’s a pretty simple, but pretty big factor.

In basic political science, and throughout all theories of government, there’s a balance between serving the people’s wants and serving the people’s needs.

    And then it gets weird.

I’m sure in the bowels of Josef Stalin’s brain, murdering 20 million dissidents was what the Russian people “needed.” Crazy? As a hoot-owl. But somehow it seemed like a good idea at the time.

“Dr No” and “Goldfinger” didn’t think they were insane. And there’s probably a rationale Kim Jong Il could come up with which would rationalize why 300 Vegas lap-dancers were more important than giving North Koreans 29 more grams of rice per day. I’m not sure that’s specific evidence against socialism but it’s pretty good evidence against Kim Jong Il.

(I mean, if you’re gonna judge socialism on the basis of Stalin and Kim, I’m gonna start looking for connections between Scott Roeder and Operation Rescue, okay?)

    But I digress…

    From the Vanity Fair article:

More than once in my travels in Alaska, people brought up, without prompting, the question of Palin’s extravagant self-regard. Several told me, independently of one another, that they had consulted the definition of “narcissistic personality disorder” in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders—“a pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy”—and thought it fit her perfectly.

When Trig was born, Palin wrote an e-mail letter to friends and relatives, describing the belated news of her pregnancy and detailing Trig’s condition; she wrote the e-mail not in her own name but in God’s, and signed it “Trig’s Creator, Your Heavenly Father.”

Okie – you remind me of the old woman that sat on the front row pew every Sunday. She was properly dressed, held her Bible up for all to see, sang all the beautiful hymns, could pray a beautiful prayer but her heart was full of such contempt and hate for everyone around her – especially those who were ‘different’ or ‘not in her economic class’.

Every Sunday this woman sat there and thought she was going to help God pass out those lighting bolts on Judgment Day. But she died a lonely, old bitter woman with no friends. Why? Because every saw through her face of hypocrisy.

That would certainly explain some of her speeches and all the wink-wink-kiss-kiss for the cameras and her munchies for moose patties! Astounding. Risky. Quitter. And that’s what fellow conservatives had to say Sunday about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her decision to step down with 18 months left in her term.

Karl Rove, the “architect” of George W. Bush’s successful presidential campaigns, said the resignation left many of Palin’s fellow Republicans “a little perplexed.”

“It’s a risky strategy,” Rove told “Fox News Sunday.”

“Astounding,” was the pronouncement by Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, and conservative columnist George Will said Palin was declaring herself a quitter.

  181. satatom

Will told the ABC program “This Week” that he had “no idea why she did this.”

“The one that rings most hollow is, she doesn’t want to put Alaska through the terror of [her] being a lame-duck governor,” Will said. “If she is just weary of it, one can understand that. Still, she made a contract with [voters] to serve out her term. And she said, in her own words, she now is a quitter.”

The Votemaster had a good explanation of why her “lame duck” excuse was just that, an excuse.

“The filing deadline for governor is close to a year from now. As long as no one knew if she was running for governor again, she would not have been a lame duck and the state legislature would have had to treat her with respect. Saying she did not want to be a lame duck is disingenuous since she is the one causing the orthopedic problem in the duck by making this announcement.”

Fox News host Greta Van Susteren’s ties to the Palin family are raising questions at a time when her ratings are also spurring talk that her show may be shifted from its coveted 10 p.m. time slot, the New York Times reports. Ms. Van Susteren’s husband, John Coale, gave Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin advice about starting a political action committee when the couple met the Palins for an interview the weekend after the presidential election, the newspaper says. Many news outlets frown on staffers covering events if their partners are in some way affiliated with them, the Times adds.

    Greta’s an odd duck.

She got her start on Court TV, the CNN as a lawyer, prosecutor, defense attorney… and seemed to know her stuff.

I gotta think Murdoch gave her an obscene amount of money to sell her soul and, as a typical lawyer, she snatched up the money.

There’s nothing but dollar signs in the Van Susteren/Palin connection. It’s a cash cow gig like being Michael Jackson’s ’script doctor.

I suspect it’s part of the whole Fox News Channel business plan:

“I’m not a journalist but I play one on television…”

    And what the hey….

For a limo and a Malibu beach house and walking-around money, I have what it takes to substitute for Glen Beck when his clozapine wears off. I’ve read CONs on WE Blog and I know all their insanities.

Greta latched on to the Moose-Dresser because she was expecting a media money train.

Along the way she lost track of the fact: the Moose-Dresser is crazy as a hoot owl.
