    Obama hits another HOME RUN!!!!

WASHINGTON – New safety standards aimed at reducing salmonella and E. coli outbreaks are part of a government effort to try to make food safer to eat.

A food safety panel established by President Barack Obama developed the new rules for eggs, poultry, beef, leafy greens, melons and tomatoes as well as for better coordination and communication among the agencies overseeing the nation’s food supply.

WASHINGTON — Reacting to swings in oil prices in recent months, federal regulators announced on Tuesday that they were considering trading restrictions on hedge funds and other “speculative” traders in markets for oil, natural gas and other energy products.

In a big departure from the hands-off approach to market regulation of the last two decades, the chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Gary Gensler, said his agency would consider new limits on the volume of energy futures contracts that purely financial investors would be allowed to hold.

The agency also announced that it would pull back part of the veil on the oil and gas markets, publishing more detailed information about the aggregate activity of hedge funds and traders who arbitrage between domestic and foreign energy prices.

“My firm belief is that we must aggressively use all existing authorities to ensure market integrity,” Mr. Gensler said in a written statement.

Mr. Gensler announced that his agency will hold several hearings in July and August, the first of which will examine whether to impose federal “speculative limits” on futures contracts for energy products.

Oil prices have swung wildly in the last year, hitting about $145 a barrel last summer, then plunging to $33 in December before rising to about $70.

US loan defaults hit record level

Credit card issuers have seen higher defaults
The level of people falling behind with consumer loans in the US hit a new high in the first three months of 2009, the American Bankers Association said.

Rising unemployment was behind the missed payments, it suggested.

Delinquencies – payments that were more than 30 days overdue – rose to 3.23% from 3.22%, the highest level since rates began being tracked in the 1970s.

Credit card loan delinquencies also increased, rising to 4.75% from 4.52% in the last quarter of 2008.

The US unemployment rate is now at a 25-year high of 9.4%.

“The number one driver of delinquencies is job loss,” said the ABA’s chief economist, James Chessen.

“When people lose their jobs, they can’t pay their bills. Delinquencies won’t improve until companies start hiring again and we see a significant economic turnaround.”

Yep we have change we can believe in and so can all of those unemployed who can’t pay their credit cards and mortgage payments.

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) — The United States is “absolutely not” giving Israel a green light to attack Iran, U.S. President Barack Obama told CNN Tuesday.

    OR:

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden appeared to leave the door open on Sunday for Israel to attack Iran if it saw fit.

“Israel can determine for itself — it’s a sovereign nation — what’s in their interest and what they decide to do relative to Iran and anyone else,” Biden said on ABC’s “This Week.”

“You have a link from moveon or dailykos?”

No, unlike Republicans, I have actual facts.

Professor, Seton Hall University School of Law and
    Counsel to two Guantanamo detainees

Among the data revealed by this Report:
    1. Fifty-five percent (55%) of the detainees are not determined to have committed any hostile acts against the United States or its coalition allies.

    2. Only 8% of the detainees were characterized as al Qaeda fighters. Of the remaining detainees, 40% have no definitive connection with al Qaeda at all and 18% are have no definitive affiliation with either al Qaeda or the Taliban.

    4. Only 5% of the detainees were captured by United States forces. 86% of the detainees were arrested by either Pakistan or the Northern Alliance and turned over to United States
    custody.

    (snip)

The Report concludes, however, that the large majority of detainees never participated in any combat against the United States on a battlefield.

The report is quite lengthy, so I won’t post it all here – you can read it for yourself.

  49. WSClark
    Posted July 7, 2009 at 6:07 pm | Permalink

    And………

“This 86% of the detainees captured by Pakistan or the Northern Alliance were handed over to the
United States at a time in which the United States offered large bounties for capture of suspected
    enemies.”

The bounties ranged from $3,000 to $25,000. Now if you were a goat herder making $1,500 a year and you found that you could make $25K for dropping a dime on your brother-in-law that you didn’t like in the first place, would you do it?

    Apparently, many Afghans did.

ws chooses to believe the lawyers for the terrorists. Shocker!!
    _______________________________________

The data reveals that the Government divides a detainee’s enemy combatant status into six
distinct categories that describe the terrorist organization with whom the detainee is affiliated.
Figure 1 illustrates the breakdown of each group’s representation by the data:
    1. al Qaeda (32%)
    2. al Qaeda & Taliban (28%)
    3. Taliban (22%)
    4. al Qaeda OR Taliban (7%)
    5. Unidentified Affiliation (10%)
    6. Other (1%)
    The CSRT Summary of Evidence
provides no way to determine the difference
    between “unidentified/none alleged” and
“other” and no explanation for why there are
separate categories for both “al Qaeda and
Taliban” and “al Qaeda or Taliban.”
If, after four years of detention, the Government is unable to determine if a detainee is either
al Qaeda or Taliban, then it is reasonable to conclude that the detainee is neither. Under this
assumption, the data reveals that 40% of the detainees are not affiliated with al Qaeda and 18%
percent of the detainees are not affiliated with either al Qaeda or the Taliban.

Why would Bush release 500 of the “worst of the worst?”

There was no compelling legal deadline to meet, the ACLU had won no court cases forcing release, Obama was not even elected president or even his party’s nominee, Congress had not forced his hand, so WHY did Bush release 500 of the “worst of the worst?”

Galloway on McNamara: Reading an obit with great pleasure

    By Joseph L. Galloway |

“I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure.” —Clarence Darrow (1857–1938)

Well, the aptly named Robert Strange McNamara has finally shuffled off to join LBJ and Dick Nixon in the 7th level of Hell.

McNamara was the original bean-counter — a man who knew the cost of everything but the worth of nothing.

Back in 1990 I had a series of strange phone conversations with McNamara while doing research for my book We Were Soldiers Once And Young. McNamara prefaced every conversation with this: “I do not want to comment on the record for fear that I might distort history in the process.” Then he would proceed to talk for an hour, doing precisely that with answers that were disingenuous in the extreme — when they were not bald-faced lies.

Upon hanging up I would call Neil Sheehan and David Halberstam and run McNamara’s comments past them for deconstruction and the addition of the truth.

The only disagreement i ever had with Dave Halberstam was over the question of which of us hated him the most. In retrospect, it was Halberstam.

When McNamara published his first book — filled with those distortions of history — Halberstam, at his own expense, set out on a journey following McNamara on his book tour around America as a one-man truth squad.

    McNamara abandoned the tour.

The most bizarre incident involving McNamara occurred when he was president of the World Bank and, off on his summer holiday, he caught the Martha’s Vineyard ferry. It was a night crossing in bad weather. McNamara was in the salon, drink in hand, schmoozing with fellow passengers. On the deck outside a vineyard local, a hippie artist, glanced through the window and did a double-take. The artist was outraged to see McNamara, whom he viewed as a war criminal, so enjoying himself.

He immediately opened the door and told McNamara there was a radiophone call for him on the bridge. McNamara set down his drink and stepped outside. The artist immediately grabbed him, wrestled him to the railing and pushed him over the side. McNamara managed to get his fingers through the holes in the metal plate that ran from the top of the railing to the scuppers.

McNamara was screaming bloody murder; the artist was prying his fingers loose one at a time. Someone heard the racket and raced out and pulled the artist off.

By the time the ferry docked in the vineyard McNamara had decided against filing charges against the artist, and he was freed and walked away.

What I stated was that it was hypocritical to criticize Obama for a 120 point drop in the Dow during his tenure, but to ignore a drop from over 14K to under 7K during the Bush II presidency.

Are the Cons denying that the last eight years ever happened?

Should Obama be able to clean up the Bush mess in just six months – a year – two years?

    Downtown Master Plan Update

    Date: July 7, 2009
    Contact: Communications Team

The City of Wichita’s Request For Qualifications (RFQ) seeking design teams to develop a 20-year Downtown Revitalization Master Plan attracted 32 proposals, City officials announced on Tuesday. The RFQ proposals, which had to be submitted by a 5 p.m. deadline on Monday, feature local, regional and national design teams.

Mayor Carl Brewer, who has spearheaded community discussions regarding the future of downtown, said the RFQ responses represent the latest step in creating a pedestrian-friendly environment that makes downtown Wichita a unique and memorable experience, a destination for people of all ages, ethnicities and cultures.

“The high number of RFQ responses reflects the promise of Wichita’s downtown,” Brewer said. “An updated Master Plan will provide cohesive and ambitious development strategies and it will move downtown forward in smart ways that connect and maximize the potential of existing assets such as Old Town, INTRUST Bank Arena and River Corridor Improvements.”

A goal of the Master Plan is to enhance downtown’s status as a destination. Brewer said a further revitalized core area will feature park and open spaces as well as additional retailers, residences, restaurants, office buildings and multiple venues for arts and entertainment. It will help retain young people, families and jobs as well as grow the tax base and make Wichita more competitive with competing cities.

The proposal selection process will be overseen by the Downtown Revitalization Steering Council recently appointed by the Wichita City Council. The RFQ and other related downtown information are available at http://www.wichita.gov. Click on “Mayor’s Downtown Vision” under City Spotlight.

Public and private dollars will help fund the cost of the Master Plan.

Gosh, Revolving Door ‘Justice’ and Bleeding Heart Liberals Release ANOTHER Criminal to the Streets to Murder People

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,530292,00.html

Police Say South Carolina Spree Killer Had Long Rap Sheet

GAFFNEY, S.C. — The serial killer who terrorized a South Carolina community by shooting five people to death before police killed him Monday was a career criminal paroled just two months ago, authorities said.

Patrick Burris, 41, was shot to death by officers investigating a burglary complaint at a home in Gastonia, N.C., 30 miles from where the killing spree started June 27. Bullets in his gun matched those that killed residents in and around Gaffney over six days last week, said State Law Enforcement Division Chief Reggie Lloyd.

“Look at this,” Lloyd said, waiving a stapled copy of Burris’ criminal record. “This is like 25 pages. At some point the criminal justice system is going to need to explain why this suspect was out on the street.”

Michael Jackson was acquitted x2. I’m on the fence on whether or not he was guilty but the jury of his peers decided there was not enough evidence. Being weird and loving children doesn’t necessarily make you a perv, but it is suspect that he was so rich and the accusers had so much to gain.

As far as sleeping in the same bed, there are a lot of families who believe in the family bed. As a parent, the family bed is reserved for FAMILY members ONLY.

Anyone else notice the Hypocracy of Obama lecturing Russia on Free Markets?

Lectures Russia to be like the US.
Lectures the US to be like Russia.

OBAMA: No. I think that President Medvedev is my counterpart, the president of Russia. The prime minister, who I just met today, obviously still has enormous influence.

Interestingly, nothing Putin said contradicted anything that Medvedev has said. It was consistent. And that is that Russia is still in a transition period. It’s still growing. Still coming out of some of the legacies of the past.

But, for example, the recognition that rule of law is a critical component of economic growth, and that free markets and diversification of the economy are still important. That Russia can’t simply rely on oil exports and gas exports in perpetuity.

Those recognitions are actually ones that I think you will see the Russian government move forward on.

But I do sense that President Medvedev in particular is recognizing that the more that Russia reflects transparency, openness, anti-corruption, rule of law, the better off the Russian people will be.

Relatives of Soldier Killed in Afghanistan Decry Lack of Coverage Amid Jackson Spectacle

A day before New York Rep. Peter King called Michael Jackson a “pervert” unworthy of nonstop media coverage, the aunt of a U.S. soldier killed in Afghanistan on the same day Jackson died asked why her nephew’s death went virtually unnoticed while the King of Pop got memorial shrines across the country.

“Mr. Jackson received days of wall-to-wall coverage in the media,” Martha Gillis wrote to the Washington Post. “Where was the coverage of my nephew or the other soldiers who died that week?”

Gillis’ nephew, Lt. Brian Bradshaw, 24, died in Kheyl, Afganistan, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Bradshaw, of Steilacoom, Wash., was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division in Fort Richardson, Alaska. He was one of at least 13 U.S. soldiers to die in Afghanistan since Jackson’s death on June 25.

(Yet there are no Daily Body Counts for troops killed under Obama’s orders.)

JACKSON: We’re going to sleep. I tuck them in, I put a little like music on, do a little story time, read a book. It’s very sweet. Put the fireplace on, give them hot milk. You know, we have little cookies. It’s very charming. Very sweet.

JACKSON: When you say bed, you’re thinking sexual. They make that sexual. It’s not sexual. We’re going to sleep.

    Seduction

    This pattern characterizes the
offender who engages children in sexual
    activity by “seducing” them—courting them
    with attention, affection, and gifts.

Just as one adult courts another, the pedophile seduces
children over a period of time by gradually
    lowering their sexual inhibitions. Frequently
his victims arrive at the point where they are
willing to trade sex for the attention, affection,
and other benefits they receive from the
    offender.

The characteristic that seems to make
this individual a master seducer of children is
his ability to identify with them. He knows
how to talk to children—but, more important,
he knows how to listen to them. His adult
status and authority is also an important part
    of the seduction process.

    In addition, he frequently
selects as targets children who are
victims of emotional or physical neglect. The
biggest problem for this child molester is not
how to obtain child victims but how to get
them to leave after they are too old. This must
be done without the disclosure of the “secret.”

Access to children ~ This is one of the most important indicators of a pedophile. The pedophile will surely have a a method of gaining access to children. Other than simply hanging around places children congregate, pedophiles sometimes marry women simply to gain access to children. Pedophiles are frequently the “nice guys” in the neighborhood who like to entertain the children after school or take them on day or weekend trips.

Activities with children, often excluding other adults ~ The pedophile is always trying to get children in situations where there are no other adults present.

Seduces with attention, affection, and gifts ~ This is the most common technique used by pedophiles. They literally seduce the children by befriending them, talking to them, listening to them, paying attention to them, spending time with them, and buying gifts for them. If you understand the courtship process, it should not be difficult to understand why some child victims develop positive feelings for the offender.

Skilled at manipulating children ~ In order to operate a child sex ring involving simultaneous sexual relations with multiple victims, a pedophile must know how to manipulate children. The pedophile uses seduction techniques, competition, peer pressure, child and group psychology, motivation techniques, threats, and blackmail. A skilled pedophile who can get children into a situation where they must change clothing or stay with him overnight will almost always succeed in seducing them.

Has hobbies and interests appealing to children ~ This is another indicator that must be considered for evaluation only in connection with other indicators. Pedophiles might collect toys or dolls, build model planes or boats, or perform as clowns or magicians to attract children.

    Michael Jackson confesses:
    I sleep with boys

    In TV interview, singer obsessed
with children says it’s not sexual

    Posted: February 04, 2003

Pop superstar Michael Jackson admitted last night in a television documentary that he loves to have young boys sleep in his bed. What’s more, everyone should do it, says the 44-year-old Jackson.

One 12-year-old boy told Bashir he slept in the singer’s bed. Commenting on that occasion, Jackson said he had slept on the floor that night, feeling he was “four” not 44, reported the Telegraph. “I see God in the face of children,” said Jackson. “And man, I just love being around them all the time.”

Although he claimed only “very few” boys had actually stayed in his bed, Jackson strongly defended the practice, saying: “Why can’t you share your bed? The most loving thing to do, is to share your bed with someone.”

Despite persistent questioning from Bashir, Jackson defended his desire to sleep close to young boys, describing the practice as “very charming” and “very sweet.” In fact, he recommended that the interviewer do likewise, sleeping in the same bed as friends of his own children.

According to Jackson, not only do children like to be touched, but the superstar told Bashir he would kill himself if he could not be close to young boys.

According to the Telegraph report, an uneasy Bashir concluded that Jackson is obsessed with children. But the singer dismissed fears of sexual molestation, saying: “When you say bed, they make that sexual. It’s not sexual. We’re going to sleep.

“I tuck them in and put a little like, er, music on and when it’s story time I read a book and we go to sleep with the fireplace on. I give them hot milk, you know. We have cookies. It’s very charming. It’s very sweet. It’s what the whole world should do.

“If there were no children on this earth, if someone announced all kids were dead, I would jump off the balcony immediately.”

KLTV EXCLUSIVE: Former Preacher/Child Molester Released

    (Did he move to Kansas?)

    http://www.kltv.com/Global/story.asp?S=1522737

A former teacher and pastor, who admitted to molesting more than 40 children, is free, after serving only four years in jail. Fifty-seven-year-old Kenneth Ward is now at a Dallas halfway house. The mother of one victim says she’ll fight to change the law against pedophiles.

Stephanie Burt’s idea of security was shattered when she learned what Kenneth Eugene Ward had done to her son, Tommy, when he was only seven years old. In a signed confession, Ward admitted to molesting Tommy for about three years. There were similar acts with dozens of other boys. Most of those parents, like Stephanie, didn’t find out about the abuse until more than a decade after the fact.

Police have arrested Billy Masters, 66, reportedly the preacher at Harvest Baptist Church for first-degree sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy. What is remarkable is that Masters previously was convicted and served time for sodomy of a child.

In 2001, Masters was reportedly convicted of sodomy against three male victims. He pleaded guilty to three counts of sodomy and one count of sexual abuse. He was sentenced to 15 years for each sodomy charge and 10 years for the sexual abuse count. Because they ran concurrently, he was released in 2007.

Perhaps someone can explain how such a man becomes a preacher again working with children.
