I support legislation that would halt the extemely dangerous practice of talking on cell phones while driving.
And cancel any thought of prohibiting driving in the left lane on two lane highways. I have watched this situation since this legislation has been discussed. I don’t think drivers need the government sitting behind them saying, “No don’t do that.” “Get back in the right lane, you don’t have time to pass.” “Careful, there’s a highway patrolman looking for someone to give a quota ticket to.”
This left lane legislation is namby pamby, pandering by some people looking to make a name for themselves.
Talking on cell phones while driving is more dangerous than driving with alcohol impairment. Dangerous to all drivers on the road.

Nancy E. Boyda has been appointed to the senior executive service and will be assigned as deputy assistant secretary of defense for reserve manpower and personnel, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve affairs, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Washington, D.C. Boyda previously served with the U.S. House of Representatives as a congresswoman from Kansas.
(This job was created as part of the Stimulus funding. Ahhhh, I feel more optimistic about the economy already!)
Senior Executive Service?
WTF is that?
Are they taking care of old people, or are they old people forced to take care of executives?
Deputy assistant secretary of defense for reserve manpower and personnel, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve affairs, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Washington, D.C
How do they fit this title on Boyda’s business card?
Is this a made up job or what?
Global warming is the new religion of First World urban elites
Geologist Ian Plimer takes a contrary view, arguing that man-made climate change is a con trick perpetuated by environmentalists
http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Global+warming+religion+First+World+urban+elites/1835847/story.html
The dynamic and changing character of the Earth’s climate has always been known by geologists. These changes are cyclical and random, he says. They are not caused or significantly affected by human behaviour.
Polar ice, for example, has been present on the Earth for less than 20 per cent of geological time, Plimer writes. Plus, animal extinctions are an entirely normal part of the Earth’s evolution.
Navy Christens New Guided Missile Destroyer Jason Dunham
The Navy will christen the newest Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer, Jason Dunham, Aug. 1, 2009, during a 10 a.m. EDT ceremony at Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine.
Designated DDG 109, the new destroyer honors Cpl. Jason L. Dunham, the first Marine awarded the Medal of Honor for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dunham was born in Scio, N.Y., Nov. 10, 1981, sharing the same birthday as the U.S. Marine Corps.
On April 14, 2004, Dunham’s squad was conducting a reconnaissance mission in Karabilah, Iraq, when his battalion commander’s convoy was ambushed. When Dunham’s squad approached to provide fire support, an Iraqi insurgent leapt out of a vehicle and attacked Dunham. As Dunham wrestled the insurgent to the ground, he noticed that the enemy fighter had a grenade in his hand and immediately alerted his fellow Marines. When the enemy dropped the live grenade, Dunham took off his Kevlar helmet, covered the grenade, and threw himself on top to smother the blast. In an ultimate selfless act of courage, in which he was mortally wounded, he saved the lives of two fellow Marines.
Retired Gen. Michael W. Hagee, former commandant of the U. S. Marine Corps, will deliver the ceremony’s principal address. Debra Dunham will serve as sponsor of the ship named for her late son. In accordance with Navy tradition, she will break a bottle of champagne across the ship’s bow and christen the ship.

Democrats may drop public option from health bill
The idea — beloved by President Barack Obama and liberal Democrats — that any overhaul of the nation’s health care system should include a government-run insurance option to compete with private insurers is losing important political momentum.
Democratic leaders of the Senate and the House of Representatives wouldn’t guarantee Tuesday that the “public option” would be in the final version of the legislation.

That’s good news XXX.
“I support legislation that would halt the extemely dangerous practice of talking on cell phones while driving.” Jwink
Teenagers don’t talk on cell phones anymore, they just text…much more dangerous as you can talk handsfree with a bluetooth/etc, however you can’t text “handsfree”.
At the speed of business transactions today, most people can talk and drive at the same time and virtually are required to, to meet customer needs while traveling…kids just think they can text & drive safely, among other things teenagers believe the can do without consequences (we’ve all been one at some point…).
“Why am I not surprised that the Democrats have once again caved in?
What a pack of gutless cowards.”
“Caved in” to whom? Don’t the have a majority?
Oh, maybe you mean the people?
XXX – as I understand it, the govt option is being replaced with a “COOP” option as a compromise. Does anyone understand what this COOP version entails? Is it in use somewhere now?
The term “COOP” makes me think of ag related COOPs, who served a great purpose about 20-50 yrs ago, when KS was the “bread basket of the world” and price volatility was a rarity. A lot of COOPs bit the dust in the last 20 yrs due to a pricing practice called “price protection”. The concept was that for its members, it offered price protection for its purchasing members (fertilizer, chemicals, etc) by giving them a fixed contract price if prices went up, or lowering the contract price if prices went down. The flip held true on member sales (grain), giving them the higher of fixed contract price or cash market price. It bankrupted the COOPs, but members loved it.
Pelosi made one of her silly speeches a couple days ago, proclaiming the House bill under consideration “capped costs, but not benefits”. How many times does this impossibility need to prove it’s impossibility before people learn, you can’t fix sales price and leave the cost of goods sold unhedged? Rolling brownouts in CA when they fixed utility sales prices but left them open to nat gas fluctuations on their peak shaving plants….homeowners/bankers/politicians with ARMs believing home value was static/rising, but increased interest rates were no risk…
And the press nods along…because THIS time, we feel lucky…THIS time it’ll work…
you can talk handsfree with a bluetooth/etc, however you can’t text “handsfree”.
Give it a bit. There is already software out there that will translate your received txt’s to speech. Soon you will be able to speak in your phone and have it translated to txt.

Once upon a time, I was invited to the White House for a private dinner with the President. I am a respected businessman, with a factory that produces memory chips for computers and portable electronics. There was some talk that my industry was being scrutinized by the administration, but I paid it no mind. I live in a free country. There’s nothing that the government can do to me if I’ve broken no laws. My wealth was earned honestly, and an invitation to dinner with an American President is an honor.
I checked my coat, was greeted by the Chief of Staff, and joined the President in a yellow dining room.
We sat across from each other at a table draped in white linen. The Great Seal was embossed on the china. Uniformed staff served our dinner.
The meal was served, and I was startled when my waiter suddenly reached out, plucked a dinner roll off my plate, and began nibbling it as he walked back to the kitchen.
“Sorry about that,” said the President. “Andrew is very hungry.”
“I don’t appreciate…” I began, but as I looked into the calm brown eyes across from me, I felt immediately guilty and petty.. It was just a dinner roll.
“Of course,” I concluded, and reached for my glass. Before I could, however, another waiter reached forward, took the glass away and swallowed the wine in a single gulp.
“And his brother Eric is very thirsty.” said the President.
I didn’t say anything. The President is testing my compassion, I thought. I will play along. I don’t want to seem unkind.
My plate was whisked away before I had tasted a bite.
“Eric’s children are also quite hungry.”
With a lurch, I crashed to the floor. My chair had been pulled out from under me. I stood, brushing myself off angrily, and watched as it was carried from the room.
“And their grandmother can’t stand for long.”
I excused myself, smiling outwardly, but inside feeling like a fool.
Obviously I had been invited to the White House to be sport for some game. I reached for my coat, to find that it had been taken. I turned back to the President.
“Their grandfather doesn’t like the cold.”
I wanted to shout – that was my coat! But again, I looked at the placid smiling face of my host and decided I was being a poor sport. I spread my hands helplessly and chuckled. Then I felt my hip pocket and realized my wallet was gone. I excused myself and walked to a phone on an elegant side table. I learned shortly that my credit cards had been maxed out, my bank accounts emptied, my retirement and equity portfolios had vanished, and my wife had been thrown out of our home. Apparently, the waiters and their families were moving in. The President hadn’t moved or spoken as I learned all this, but finally I lowered the phone into its cradle and turned to face him.
“Andrew’s whole family has made bad financial decisions. They haven’t planned for retirement, and they need a house. They recently defaulted on a subprime mortgage. I told them they could have your home. They need it more than you do.”
My hands were shaking. I felt faint. I stumbled back to the table and knelt on the floor. The President cheerfully cut his meat, ate his steak and drank his wine.
I lowered my eyes and stared at the small grey circles on the tablecloth that were water drops.
“By the way,” he added, “I have just signed an Executive Order nationalizing your factories. I’m firing you as head of your business. I’ll be operating the firm now for the benefit of all mankind. There’s a whole bunch of Erics and Andrews out there and they can’t come to you for jobs groveling like beggars.”
I looked up. The President dropped his spoon into the empty ramekin which had been his crème Brule. He drained the last drops of his wine.
As the table was cleared, he lit a cigarette and leaned back in his chair. He stared at me. I clung to the edge of the table as if were a ledge and I were a man hanging over an abyss. I thought of the years behind me, of the life I had lived. The life I had earned with a lifetime of work, risk and struggle. Why was I punished? How had I allowed it to be taken? What game had I played and lost? I looked across the table and noticed with some surprise that there was no game board between us.
What had I done wrong?
As if answering the unspoken thought, the President suddenly cocked his head, locked his empty eyes to mine, and bared a million teeth, chuckling wryly as he folded his hands.
“You should have stopped me at the dinner roll,” he said.
Wake up, America!
This can’t be entirely an unanticipated reaction:
—
Public opposition to the auto bailouts may translating into consumer buying decisions, with 46% of Americans now saying they are more likely to buy a car from Ford because it did not take government money to stay in business.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 13% say they are less likely to buy a Ford because the company didn’t receive a bailout, and 37% say it has no impact on their car buying.
At the same time, nearly one-out-of-five Americans (19%) say someone in their family or a friend has chosen not to buy a car from GM or Chrysler because they took bailout money. Fifty-six percent (56%) say family or friends have not steered clear of GM or Chrysler for this reason, but 26% are not sure.
Most Americans (53%) continue to believe that it is at least somewhat likely that the government, now that it has substantial ownership stakes in GM and Chrysler, will pass laws and regulations giving those two automakers an unfair advantage over Ford. Thirty percent (30%) say it’s very likely. This suspicion has lessened slightly since May.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/business/auto_industry/july_2009/46_more_likely_to_buy_ford_cause_it_didn_t_get_a_bailout
=====
That last – that “the government . . . will pass laws and regulations giving those two automakers an unfair advantage over Ford” – gets a big “DUH” on the meter. OF COURSE gov’t will do so. It’s par for the course.
The more gov’t interferes in business, the more corrupt gov’t will be. It’s inevitable.
Oh, and BTW – count me in. I will NOT buy any new GM products as long as GM is in fact Government Moters. I don’t care how many “incentives” are in place. And “cash for clunkers” notwithstanding, I’ll keep the GMC, thanks.

Here’s the the guy that “Cosmos of the Hyperlinks” links to to criticize Don Dublin’s source. A “computer scientist”? Not that there is anything wrong with that or that the fellow might even have a valid opinion. But Cosmos’s usual dismissal of the opinions of those who aren’t “climate scientists” is well demonstrated. So the rule must apply except when they agree with Cosmos.
“I’m a computer scientist in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. I don’t blog about computer science very much but rather about areas of science with political implications such as global warming, the relationship between guns and crime and the use of DDT against malaria. Usually I’m inspired by reading an article and noticing something that doesn’t seem to be correct. I then do a little bit of research and before you know it I have a blog post explaining what is wrong and why it is wrong.”

donndublin cannot admit that he prefers to believe the deceptions, falsehoods, and ignorance spread by Ian Plimer.
Geithner: U.S. Will Address Deficits After Economy Recovers
Washington (AP) – Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner says he has reassured China that the United States will take steps to address rising
budget deficits once the economic recovery is firmly in place. China has huge investments in the United States and has worried it could be
undermined by U.S. budget deficits.
Geithner says the Obama administration plans to reverse the spending of hundreds of billions of dollars devoted to stimulating the economy and
propping up a teetering financial system.
How’s he going to do that?
Obama and his lackeys in Congress are continually adding more pork, entitlements, and increases to entitlement programs.
You cannot have it both ways. You can’t be a big spender and a conservative.
Obama’s trillion+ Recovery Act includes increases to over a dozen entitlement programs which are “planned” as temporary. He also is trying to keep his base happy by handing out money to hire
cops, firemen, and teachers. All of these – are temporary in the budget.
We all know that entitlements, and funding for jobs politically will be hard to END. Next to impossible. Who will have the courage to reduce
unemployment benefits to the 2008 level, in 2012? Who will have the courage to literally fire all the teachers, policemen, and fireman hired
under the guise of temporary “recovery”? No one.
So we have this huge permanent increase in federal outlays by Obama which will never go away. We also know Obama wants to spend even more.
LOTS MORE.
There is no way to resolved this without increasing revenue. That means more tax increases for ALL Americans. If you took every penny from the Top 5% – that would not be enough. If you took every penny of GDP – that would not be enough.
Obama will have to dream up more hidden taxes on the poor and middle class. Some, like on smokes, tobacco, and fuel, are not so hidden.
But when China and Japan have had enough of our spending nonsense, they will pull the plug. Gawd help us then.
And the media will continue to be plastered with the real serious business facing this nation. World events, the recession, war, everything pales in comparison.
1. What kind of beer will Obama drink?
2. What will Obama be wearing for the 6 PM get together?
3. Will the “THREE” shake hands and smile?
4. Will Obama actually apologize for putting his foot in his mouth and being an a $$?
Meanwhile, the informal investigation in Cambridge is sure to keep this earth shattering world event in the news for months to come.
And those polls!
I’m so excited.

I thought the democrats latest crazy idea is not to have the government healthcare plan, but instead create new agencies just like Freddy Mac and Fanny Mae.
You know quasi government entities, that can create havoc in the industry, speculate, and provide campaign contributions to democrat candidates. Then go bankrupt and have the government bail them out. And put the CEO on the presidents advisory board.

Quoting AGW alarmist sources as proof that someone has committed errors is like comparing apples and oranges and stating one is wrong.
Your article is a laundry list of references (poorly constructed I might add) that furthers the confirmation that incompetence reigns supreme in the AGW Henny Penny world.
Utilizing a compendium of AGW biased sources is not proof of anything, it’s typical alarmist sloth.

The Australian – Michael Ashley reviews Ian Plimer’s Heaven + Earth
The Weekend Australian publishes a dismissive review of Ian Plimer’s book Heaven and Earth which has all the usual alarmist ingredients, in the following order:
ad hominem attacks (despite claims to the contrary);
choosing one isolated fact and then trying to discredit it;
extrapolating ingredient 2 to the entire book;
ignoring the main arguments completely; and
hints at censorship.

“A few hundred people rallied outside the state Capitol on Tuesday against what they dubbed socialist “Obamacare” — monster-size, government-meddling change they said would only make America sicker.
While patriotic country music — including “You’ve Got to Stand for Something” — blared from the Capitol steps, people munched on hot dogs and waved posters saying “Obama care is sicko” and “Our troops did not fight and die for socialism.”
“This is not the kind of health care change we want!” shouted Jeff Crank, state director of Americans for Prosperity, which helped organize the rally. “We demand something different.”

We are truly living in Wonderland now.
Now, IF Doctors are forced to work and get paid a fixed amount no matter how many patients they see, (I suppose the Government Civil Service Corp will hold guns to their heads and force them to work like slaves), then there could be an increase in benefits with no increase in costs.
Most people, like BJ, won’t do more work for less pay.
(1/3 of our Doctors are over age 55, Will Government stop them from retiring and force them to work until the day they die?)
The president at first joked the government doesn’t have enough workers to ask everyone how they want to die, then more seriously suggested the idea is to expand the use of living wills. His aides suggested the misunderstanding was part of a calculated attempt by health reform opponents to undercut support for the effort by misrepresenting parts of the bills.
Critics have concerns the Medicare reimbursement could involve the government in end of life issues. A quarter of all Medicare spending is made in a patients final year of life, and that’s when the biggest potential savings could be made.”

http://www.fema.gov/media/fact_sheets/nle09.shtm
National Level Exercise 2009 (NLE 09) is scheduled for July 27 through July 31, 2009. NLE 09 will be the first major exercise conducted by the United States government that will focus exclusively on terrorism prevention and protection, as opposed to incident response and recovery.
NLE 09 is designated as a Tier I National Level Exercise. Tier I exercises (formerly known as the Top Officials exercise series or TOPOFF) are conducted annually in accordance with the National Exercise Program (NEP), which serves as the nation’s overarching exercise program for planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating national level exercises. The NEP was established to provide the U.S. government, at all levels, exercise opportunities to prepare for catastrophic crises ranging from terrorism to natural disasters.
NLE 09 is a White House directed, Congressionally- mandated exercise that includes the participation of all appropriate federal department and agency senior officials, their deputies, staff and key operational elements. In addition, broad regional participation of state, tribal, local, and private sector is anticipated. This year the United States welcomes the participation of Australia, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom in NLE 09.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The U.S. military wants to establish regional teams of military personnel to assist civilian authorities in the event of a significant outbreak of the H1N1 virus this fall, according to Defense Department officials.
The proposal is awaiting final approval from Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
The officials would not be identified because the proposal from U.S. Northern Command’s Gen. Victor Renuart has not been approved by the secretary.
The plan calls for military task forces to work in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. There is no final decision on how the military effort would be manned, but one source said it would likely include personnel from all branches of the military.

I thought the democrats latest crazy idea is not to have the government healthcare plan, but instead create new agencies just like Freddy Mac and Fanny Mae.

Gov’t Plans call for Fannie & Freddie to be reduced down in size to 1/3 of where they are today.
As Gov’t sponsored enterprises, they both failed so badly that Gov’t is cutting them way back. (Will ObamaCare be just as successful?)
If Fannie & Freddie are cut back so drastically, where will you get your mortgage loans in the future?
(Fannie & Freddie have roughly 60% of the market today)
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=ajcw4yxxPGJ8
As a condition for the assistance, Fannie and Freddie eventually will have to reduce their holdings of mortgages and securities backed by home loans.
The portfolios “shall not exceed $850 billion as of Dec. 31, 2009, and shall decline by 10 percent per year until it reaches $250 billion,” the Treasury said. Fannie’s portfolio was $758 billion at the end of July, and Freddie’s was $798 billion.

Running this kind of exercise makes emminent sense, given the reality that an attack could happen again. Preparation means preparedness. I don’t know. And I have no desire to find out. I strongly suspect the answer in many cases is no, but that would depend on the facts on the ground at that place/time.
The Kent State incident was a tragedy, but there was, IIRC no order to fire; rather, there was heard what some soldiers thought was a a gunshot, and they reacted. I could well be wrong; it’s been a long time. In any case, I doubt the incident tells us much about the such a scenario now.

Dear Friend,
If you’re like most Americans, there’s nothing more important to you about health care than peace of mind.
Given the status quo, that’s understandable. The current system often denies insurance due to pre-existing conditions, charges steep out-of-pocket fees – and sometimes isn’t there at all if you become seriously ill.
It’s time to fix our unsustainable insurance system and create a new foundation for health care security. That means guaranteeing your health care security and stability with eight basic consumer protections:
* No discrimination for pre-existing conditions
* No exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles or co-pays
* No cost-sharing for preventive care
* No dropping of coverage if you become seriously ill
* No gender discrimination
* No annual or lifetime caps on coverage
* Extended coverage for young adults
* Guaranteed insurance renewal so long as premiums are paid
Learn more about these consumer protections at Whitehouse.gov.
Over the next month there is going to be an avalanche of misinformation and scare tactics from those seeking to perpetuate the status quo. But we know the cost of doing nothing is too high. Health care costs will double over the next decade, millions more will become uninsured, and state and local governments will go bankrupt.
It’s time to act and reform health insurance, drive down costs and guarantee the health care security and stability of every American family. You can help by putting these core principles of reform in the hands of your friends, your family, and the rest of your social network.
Thank you,
Barack Obama

As for the question of if US troops would fire on its own citizens I think the answer is yes, they do what their told to do, one just has to look at history. Draft Riots in during the civil war were put down with troops, Colorado national guard guns down 11 children in the Ludlow massacre, battle of Blair Mountain in west Virgina federal troops dropped bombs from planes onto civilians, General MacArthur fired and gassed veterans, and Kent state has already been mentioned

Reading the law, albeit the profession you chose and are earning taxpayers’ dollar for, is essential.
Since there are so many laws proposed in Congress and resolutions and crap, the people in Congress hire policy wonks to read it at report the dicey stuff as opposed to the administrative stuff (such as what pay-grade a 4th-tier clerk might get for the job inherent in the legislation).
You know that, “GMC70.”

Law Enforcement and the Mexican Armed Forces: New Internal Security Missions Challenge the Military
by Dr. Graham H. Turbiville, Jr.
Foreign Military Studies Office, Fort Leavenworth, KS.
Introduction
Mexican internal security concerns began to intensify more than three years ago with the January 1994 appearance of the Zapatista National Liberation Army (Ejército Zapatista Liberación Nacional–EZLN) in the southern state of Chiapas. They have accelerated since that time as a consequence of severe economic problems, political turbulence and assassinations, and the recent appearance in several states of new guerrilla groups–particularly the Peoples Revolutionary Army ((Ejército Popular Revolucionario–EPR) which in the late summer of 1997 continues to inflict casualties on Army and police units in Guerrero, Oaxaca, and several other states. These developments–clearly identified by the Mexican government as threats to the nation’s security–have been accompanied also by rising levels of street crime and criminal violence, revelations of endemic institutional corruption, and the increasingly effective operations of drug traffickers and other organized crime groups.(1)
In this environment, the efforts of Mexican authorities to use the law enforcement and defense resources of the state to control or eliminate national and public security threats ranging from insurgency, to drug trafficking, to violent street crime, have evoked charges from some Mexicans that the ‘militarization’ of the state is well underway.(2) For the federal and state police forces of the nation, this refers to the adoption of a more military character in terms of manning, equipment, and operational approaches.(3) In troubled states like Guerrero, truck-loads of State or Federal Judicial Police equipped with automatic weapons present a frequently encountered paramilitary presence. In large measure, however, the ‘militarization’ charge refers to the evolving role of the Mexican Defense Secretariat (Secreataría de la Defensa Nacional–comprising the Army and Air Force) and the Marine Secretariat (Secretaría de la Marina–constituting the Navy and amphibious elements) in internal security and law enforcement. More specifically, ‘militarization’ is categorized as:
the more visible deployment of troops along roads and highways, cities and villages, and remote mountainous or other rural areas;
the transfer of law enforcement functions to the army or the placement of military officers in police organizations;
an increase in the equipment procurement and training budgets of the military; and
the increased training of Mexican soldiers in foreign schools or by foreign military personnel located in Mexico.(4)
This is the environment in which Mexico has purged, reorganized, and reinforced elements of the federal and state police establishments, and increasingly turned to the Mexican Armed Forces–growing in size and modernizing in terms of equipment and training–to bolster the nation’s struggle to restore and sustain adequate levels of internal security and public safety. These actions are judged necessary by hard-pressed Mexican authorities dealing with multiple problems. They also have intensified debate about the proper role of the military in countering vigorous, growing threats to Mexican stability.
(More details of police & military corruption follow)
While the dispatch of fresh troops and the appointment of military personnel to direct civilian law enforcement operations in Tijuana and Ciudad Juarez significantly expand the breadth and scope of the Mexican armed forces’ role in public life, military involvement in anti-drug and other law enforcement campaigns is far from new, even though the Mexican Constitution does not allow for the type of activities currently performed by soldiers on the border and in the interior of the nation.
For decades, Mexican soldiers and marines have been assigned the jobs of uprooting drug plantings and seizing narcotics on highways and sea lanes. In various states of the republic, retired or on-leave military men are often the choice picks to lead local or state police departments.

U.S. Help for Mexican Military Has Not Curtailed Drug Traffic
By TIM GOLDEN
Published: Wednesday, December 23, 1998
United States effort to help train and equip Mexico’s armed forces to pursue drug smugglers is in a shambles, officials of both countries say, souring American relations with an ally that Washington has worked intensely to court.
Three years after the Pentagon began donating dozens of helicopters to the Mexican Army and training hundreds of Mexican soldiers in the United States, officials have seen only a handful of the anti-drug operations that were intended.
The helicopter fleet has been grounded by mechanical problems, and angry Mexican generals are sharply cutting the number of troops they will send to train.
American intelligence reports say the drug flights that the plan was intended to combat have virtually ceased. But that appears to be because the traffickers turned to smuggling schemes like containerized shipping before the enforcement strategy ever got off the ground. The flow of drugs into the United States has continued apace.
Tensions over the failed strategy, the faltering equipment and continuing reports of Mexican military corruption have grown serious enough, United States officials said, that they have asked Mexico’s commanding generals to reassess the program altogether.

Chas, you will notice the person making the original comment had already responded to my comment. And his answer was a little different than yours.
Thank you for your time.
Sol,m my WIFE is not a part of this Blog… Just leave her out of your CRAPPY posts… Is that the best you got, that you attack another poster’s SPOUSE??? isnt it bad enough that you belittle Jay’s son nearly every damn day??? You are one sick, sorry, SOB!!!

Laughed so hard I got tears in my eyes. Damn good one.
There are several companies and many occupations that require drug testing.
Why not drug test welfare recipients?
Taxpayer dollars should not be used to buy illegal drugs.
Will cosmo have the integrity to give credit where credit is due?
Who found the error in hansen’s data cosmo?
Hud, your point is what?? MY point is that you intentionally responded with an error-filled statement… So far your reaction is to just sling a bunch of trash… Why dont you respond to what I said, instead of just deflecting, and distracting??? Look, I realize your age might be a factor… but just dont inflict that on the rest of us…

Hey, can you copy/paste my attack? Apparently I missed where I attacked her.
Thanx in advance.
“Why not drug test welfare recipients?”
Because “Regular” is on so many meds a screen would be inconclusive?
Who found the error cos?
A highly embarrassed GISS was forced to own up. GISS retracted the figures – and then immediately set about obfuscating its original error claiming they had discovered a new “hotspot” in the Arctic. This caused even more confusion. Intriguing as the new vacation prospect opened up by the GISS report might be, satellite indicators throughout the Fall consistently revealed the Arctic sea ice had undergone a remarkably fast, post-summer recovery with 30 percent more ice than for the same period in 2007.

Watts? Or someone at his site?
And speaking of errors — Watts very incorrectly tried to directly compare different anomaly data sets, that used different reference periods, without first adjusting for the different references.

Yes cos, please do.

Right. Why should I trust what is on the FEMA web site?
Nobody should trust the government.
http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2008/
“In the past our procedure has been to run the analysis program upon receipt of all three data sets and make the analysis publicly available immediately. This procedure worked very well from a scientific perspective, with the broad availability of the analysis helping reveal any problems with input data sets. However, because confusion was generated in the media after one of the October 2008 input data sets was found to contain significant flaws (some October station records inadvertently repeated September data in the October data slot), we have instituted a new procedure. The GISS analysis is first made available internally before it is released publicly. If any suspect data are detected, they will be reported back to the data providers for resolution. This process may introduce significant delays. We apologize for any inconvenience due to this delay, but it should reduce the likelihood of instances of future confusion and misinformation.”

THERE you stupid SOB… My WIFE is incapable of any physical activity, since she is totally disabled…. I have posted this fact previously…. For you to bring her up in this manner, or in ANY manner, is most definitely an attack on a disabled woman… So, just leave her out of your idiotic posts… GOT IT???
So Joe Public reviews the IPCC reports and apparently Joe Public has to review hansen’s “work” to make sure it is accurate. Too bad they are so often wrong.
So of hansen’s ground based thermometers, of which he collects his “data”, what percentage are out of spec?
Sounds like some great “science” right there. Glad to hear Joe Public is better at finding the flaws than the IPCC or hansen.
Hey chass,
If you quit pi$$ing her off, maybe she won’t beat you down so often. Be a good boy.

DAMN Johnson, why dont you go down to Mexico, and tell THEM how to run their country, eh??? Maybe you can even find a blog to post on while you are there…

Chas, don’t you care about our next door neighbors? Where’s your compassion?
And do you think if Mexico can deploy Federal troops against its own citizens and violate its Constitution, that the same thing could ever happen in the USA?
So, let me get this straight then, Watts found the error that hansen was too (lazy? incompetent?) to find himself.
Great source for data right there.

soldevvb,
They aren’t Dr Hansen’s “thermometers.
Ask your hero Watts (who incorrectly tried to directly compare data sets) about the thermometer specs.
Last time I checked, his analysis pretty closely matched GISS’.
“Regular believes that replacing data from the wrong time period with data from the correct time period is using “politically correct data”.”
So you admit there was an error. Can you tell me the purpose of having a report “peer reviewed”. I was thinking it had something to do with ensuring the data was correct; but, apparently, I am wrong.

Please try to keep up. GISS is now delaying posting the data (see my 3:46 pm post) until after they check it, and then Watts and all his friends check it again.
And then GISS is compared to the other groups.

No discrimination for pre-existing conditions
No exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles or co-pays
No cost-sharing for preventive care
No dropping of coverage if you become seriously ill
No gender discrimination
No annual or lifetime caps on coverage
Extended coverage for young adults
Guaranteed insurance renewal so long as premiums are paid

ALCOHOL TAX MAY FINANCE HEALTH CARE PLAN
WASHINGTON — Joe Six-Pack may have to hand over nearly $2 more for a case of beer to help provide health insurance for all.
Details of the proposed beer tax are described in a Senate Finance Committee document distributed to lawmakers in advance of a closed-door meeting Wednesday. Senators are focusing on how to pay for expanding health insurance for an estimated 50 million uninsured Americans, a cost that could range to some $1.5 trillion over 10 years.
While many of the revenue raisers involve obscure provisions of federal law, most consumers can relate to a beer tax.
Taxes on wine and hard liquor would also go up.
And there might be a new tax on soda and other sugary drinks blamed for contributing to obesity. Diet drinks, however, wouldn’t be taxed.
The idea behind the proposed increases is to tax lifestyle choices that contribute to rising medical costs. Alcohol abuse is a risk factor in several types of cancer, liver disease and psychological problems.
Under the proposal, beer taxes would go up by 48 cents a six-pack, from the current 33 cents.
Wine taxes would rise by 49 cents per bottle, from the current 21 cents.
And the tax on hard liquor would increase by 40 cents per fifth, from the current $2.14.
Percentage-wise, wine drinkers would take the biggest hit, a 233 percent tax increase per bottle.
Hard liquor would see the smallest proportional increase, 19 percent per fifth.
The beer tax would rise by 145 percent per six-pack.” NY Post
“Over the next month there is going to be an avalanche of misinformation and scare tactics from those seeking to perpetuate the status quo.”
Starting with your own scare tactics and misrepresentations Barack.
Maybe you should stick to beer?

On a more serious note, this is a great event.
Are you planning to be among the thousands of beer fanatics descending on Denver at the end of September for the Great American Beer Festival
http://www.greatamericanbeerfestival.com
If so, consider this your personal invitation to be among a very limited group that will get the chance to sample some very rare, unique and exotic brews at the inaugural Denver Rare Beer Tasting.
All About Beer, in cooperation with BeerAdvocate.com, created the Denver Rare Beer Tasting as a benefit event for the Pints for Prostates campaign. More than 20 of America’s finest craft breweries have already committed to attend this event. They will be pouring some truly one-of-a-kind brews on Friday, Sept. 25th, from 1-4 p.m. at the Wynkoop Brewery at 1634 18th Street in LoDo. What’s more is that the legendary brewers who created these phenomenal beers will be on hand to answer your questions.
There are just 450 tickets available for this event. When they are gone, they are gone and so is the chance to say you had a Stone 2008 Old Guardian Barley Wine Aged in Red Wine Barrels poured by Greg Koch or a Stoudt 2007 Old Abominable Barleywine served by Carol Stoudt. You just will not find most of the beers at the Denver Rare Beer Tasting at the GABF, or elsewhere in Denver for that matter. We’re talking about beers like New Glarus Golden Ale, the Belgian-style Trappist Ale Dan Carey is bringing from his Wisconsin brewery’s first batch in its new R&D series.
Good night, y’all… Long day tomorrow!!
good night; good luck; god bless –
whatever you conceive god to be!!
blessings all!!
blessings on Health Care Reform…. for the sake of ALL the people of this great nation!!
so mote it be!!
