It’s sad that I had to find this story from the Guardian. Sadder still is that there are so many Americans living in denial that photographic evidence still won’t convince them.
Revealed: the secret evidence of global warming Bush tried to hide
Graphic images that reveal the devastating impact of global warming in the Arctic have been released by the US military. The photographs, taken by spy satellites over the past decade, confirm that in recent years vast areas in high latitudes have lost their ice cover in summer months.
The pictures, kept secret by Washington during the presidency of George W Bush, were declassified by the White House last week. President Barack Obama is currently trying to galvanise Congress and the American public to take action to halt catastrophic climate change caused by rising levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
One particularly striking set of images – selected from the 1,000 photographs released – includes views of the Alaskan port of Barrow. One, taken in July 2006, shows sea ice still nestling close to the shore. A second image shows that by the following July the coastal waters were entirely ice-free.

Interesting “puff” article in this morning’s Wichita Eagle predicting a rosy future for the bloated downtown white elephant Intrust ice hockey arena.
The article is written by the Eagle’s predicter of the future, business reporter Bill Wilson. Remember Wilson’s remarks last fall. He said something like: “Believe me.” Or “You can bet on it.” Or “When we look back on this.” Or “Mark my words.”
Then Wilson went on to say something to the effect, “Wichita’s economy won’t even see a slight dip because our prime business motivator, the airplane manufacturing companies, are internationally based. These airplane companies rise above petty local economics and will keep Wichita high above the economic fray.”
Now Bill could argue those weren’t his exact words but they are close enough. The theme of his words has proven to be flat wrong.
Now in today’s front page Eagle article, Bill again practices his “future telling” by predicting vast success for the downtown arena. No matter that the downtown arena is well on its way to be a failure, one of the most expensive ever local government projects built for a small group of supporters, most of whom have since moved out of Wichita.
Remember that old movie, “Music Man”? That old rascal band uniform salesman came to “River City,” a mythical town in Iowa, not Wichita but it could have been. The Music Man pretended to sell non-existent band uniforms to the local citizens for their high school band. His plan of course was to take the money and flee before the citizens caught on what he was doing.
That’s basically what is happening here in Wichita, “river city.” Outsiders came in to Wichita and sold the citizens a 1/2 billion dollar unwanted, unneeded albatross downtown arena. The “upfront money” was quickly spent on parties, travel to view seating all over the country, lots of business meetings for the big boys, etc.
Nobody ever stopped to ask how that 1/2 billion dollars could have been used to make real needed improvements in Wichita and Sedgwick County for all the citizens who are paying for the arena but have no intention or desire to go there.
As some people say to me, its too late now, just stop and accept it. For 1/2 billion dollars of wasted tax monies, I think taxpayers have every right to continue to stand up and say “We didn’t want it. We will continue to protest it. And we will continue to blame those who purchased it for us without listening to our protests.”

The money quote:
“…even if the American people want reform, they do not necessarily want change.”
It would seems someone is having problems with all the savings in the proposed House health care bill.
It would also seem the meeting between Obama and Elmendorf did not go the Obama Way.

WTF! Bush marked aerial photographs of Barrow, Alaska “SECRET”?

I saw that David. Now if we can just keep the gravy train from escalating beyond sanity. Remember, we’ve pumped untold trillions into the economic recovery. The banks have to lend that money to someone.
By the way, the single photo in the link demonstrates only that the ice has retreated a few hundred feet from Pt. Barrow. The perspective is to tight to really judge anything.
And think what a recovery in the Real Estate market will do to those “toxic” assets.

Retreating ice during summer months – duh!
The reason the photos were secret, is that they were taken by a Spy satellite and there are many classified monitoring stations in the Point Barrow region.

Well cosmos, go to a place like Terra-fly and you can see satellite photos of all the ice you can handle around Point Barrow and other places.
You libs are worse than used car salesmen about distorting the facts.
Looking at the link cosmos provided the only conclusion that can be made is that the current trend shows an increase in arctic ice!

U.S. stops giving militant death tolls in Afghanistan
<b?The military alters its policy as part of a new focus in the war.
By Julian E. Barnes
July 24, 2009
Reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan — U.S. military officials in Afghanistan have halted the practice of releasing the number of militants killed in fighting with American-led forces as part of an overall strategy shift that emphasizes concern for the local civilian population’s well-being rather than hunting insurgent groups.
Under the order, issued last month by Navy Rear Adm. Gregory J. Smith, the military will not release specifics on how many insurgents are killed in fighting, and instead will give general estimates.
The change is part of the focus on making the Afghan population feel safer and comes as U.S. commanders are taking new steps to avoid civilian casualties.
“We send the wrong message if all we talk about is the number of insurgents killed. It doesn’t demonstrate anything about whether we have made progress,” said Smith, who arrived six weeks ago to overhaul U.S. and North Atlantic Treaty Organization communications efforts. “We want to shift the mind-set.”
Smith has asked commanders to issue fewer news releases and to focus on improvements in security where international forces are operating.
“We have to show we are here to protect the people,” he said.

A Pattern for Obama – Deception – Hide the Facts, Just make people FEEL better
So, What is Obama HIDING in Afghanistan?
How many civilians is Obama Killing There?
The arctic ocean is very small when compared with the other oceans. It also represents less than 3% of the earth’s surface. Local anomalies in its ice cover are in no way an indication of global warming.
Where do you draw the line? If a cooler than average in Texas is not an indication of ‘global cooling’ then how can a warmer than average July in Barrow, Alaska be evidence of ‘global cooling’?
Afghanistan Civilian suffering
A June 12 report at RAWA.org said the rate of civilian killings by occupation forces under Obama was 21% higher than under his predecessor George Bush. This is linked to Obama’s troop number increase. US soldier numbers have increased by 50% to 55,000. A further 15,000 scheduled to be deployed by the end of the year.
Also, the number of US-employed mercenaries (euphemistically called “private security contractors”) rose by 29% in the first quarter of 2009.

O’Bama, When Will You Stop The Killing?
Jimmy’s newly found compassion for Afghanistan civilians is so touching!!!!
Of course, story is about stopping the practice of announcing body counts of actual combatants killed. If this contributes to the Afghani’s feeling of security.. what is wrong with that?
War is a tool of politics. Remember how the military did the math and realized they could win in Vietnam, simply based on ‘body counts.” They were clearly wrong.
“Interesting “puff” article in this morning’s Wichita Eagle predicting a rosy future for the bloated downtown white elephant Intrust ice hockey arena.”
JWINK that sounds an awful lot like Obama promising rosy future in projected budget revenue – in the years after his term is up.
And as you say: ” I think taxpayers have every right to continue to stand up and say “We didn’t want it. We will continue to protest it. And we will continue to blame those who purchased it for us without listening to our protests.””
Funny how the press pushed Body Counts usually as their LEAD STORY for 8 years, now, for some reason, nobody cares.
“War is a tool of politics. Remember how the military did the math and realized they could win in Vietnam, simply based on ‘body counts.” They were clearly wrong.”
In other words,
Obama lies = O.K.
Bush lies = Not O.K.
Very consistent policy.
He11, as long as a lib is in the White House, who really cares about truth?
Hey, minute.. no one is using a single set of data points in Barrow to make such a conclusion.
And the link http://www.nsidc.org/data/seaice_index/images/daily_images/N_timeseries.png shows the ice extent some 40% BELOW the ‘79 – 2000 average.. not above…

A little gigglesnort from The Law Dog.
“Oleoresin Capsicum” is a Latin phrase meaning — figuratively — “It burns, it burns, oh my God, it burns!”"
“ O’Bama, When Will You Stop The Killing?”
JJ, Obama is killing human beings in Afghanistan at a pace equal to the worst in Iraq. His generals recently asked for more troops to fight the battles, but Obama, the “popular president”, will not be man enough to do something so unpopular. Something like the surge in Iraq is impossible under Obama.
I suspect a Vietnam exit. Peace with honor.
Obama Building ‘Gitmo’ in Afghanistan
The Afghan war — unjust and unwinnable
Tony Iltis & Stuart Munckton
25 July 2009
Afghan prisoners of war at the US military-run prison at Bagram, outside Kabul, have refused to wash or leave their cells in protest at their indefinite imprisonment since at least July 1, the Sydney Morning Herald said on July 17.
The protests inside “a jail that is even more closed to the public than the one at Guantanamo Bay” are also against the prisoners’ gross mistreatment, including torture.
As well as housing prisoners of war, Bagram has been a destination for victims of “rendition” (illegal kidnapping and torture organised by the CIA).
The SMH said close to 40 prisoners were not Afghan citizens and many were not captured in Afghanistan. Those captured in Afghanistan are often kidnapped at random by warlords and sold to the US as supposed Taliban fighters.
Many prisoners at the infamous Guantanamo prison camp were originally held at Bagram. Former prisoners of both prisons, including Australian Mamdouh Habib, have said Bagram is worse.
US President Barack Obama, whose administration has increased US troops occupying Afghanistan and spread the war across the border into Pakistan, has pledged to close Guantanamo but keep Bagram open.
The SMH said “the Bagram prison population has ballooned. US officials are building a bigger jail there that will hold about 1000”.
The plight of prisoners at Bagram sums up the US-led war in Afghanistan. It has raged for close to eight years and is being escalated. It is fundamentally unjust and ordinary people are its main victims.

If “the press pushed body counts usually as their LEAD STORY for 8 years” it was because this is the way the Bushies presented it.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 29% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty percent (40%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -11. That’s the first time his ratings have reached double digits in negative territory (see trends).

It would appear the public isn’t buying the snake oil of hope and change anymore.
Now maybe we can get back to governing as it should be done – for the betterment of those who sent these representatives to DC.

US ‘urges Afghan prison overhaul’
Monday, July 20, 2009
The review presses for training new Afghan prison guards, prosecutors and judges [EPA]
A US military review has called for an overhaul of the US-run Bagram prison in Afghanistan amid concerns that abuses are helping to strengthen the Taliban, the New York Times has reported.
Quoting unnamed officials, the newspaper said on Sunday that Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, had written to military service chiefs asking them to intensify their efforts to alert troops to the importance of treating detainees properly.
The New York Times article also said that US officials were concerned that fighters were being recruited by the Taliban inside Afghan prisons.
Marine Major-General Douglas Stone, credited with revamping US detention practices in Iraq, was assigned to review all detention issues in Afghanistan, according to the report.
Stone’s report, which has not been made public, recommends separating fighters from more moderate detainees, the newspaper said.

Actually, the Arctic sea ice issue is decreasing “cover”, and decreasing thickness. Thin ice melts easier/faster, and is more fragile.

Next flash point over terror detainees: Bagram prison
With Guantánamo set to close, more attention is falling on the US military facility in Afghanistan and those in custody there.
At the height of its operation, the terror detention camp at Guantánamo was viewed as a legal black hole, a place where Al Qaeda suspects could be held and questioned beyond the glare of judicial scrutiny.
President Obama has made the closing of the detention facility a priority. But as Guantánamo is being drawn down, large-scale construction is under way at a US military prison in Bagram, Afghanistan.
Some critics are already calling it “Obama’s Guantánamo.” And it looks to become the next big flash point in a long legal tug of war over the direction of America’s antiterror policies.
An estimated 242 prisoners remain at Guantánamo. In contrast, more than 600 are held at Bagram, and efforts are under way to expand facilities to potentially hold as many as 1,100 terror suspects.
With the US about to escalate the war in Afghanistan, the Bagram prison is likely to play a more visible and important role in that conflict.
In the meantime, US-based lawyers are mobilizing. Some of the same lawyers and human rights activists who fought successfully to bring judicial oversight to Guantánamo are now pushing for similar oversight at Bagram.

Some Gitmo Detainees May Come to US Jails
Friday, July 24, 2009
Washington (AP) – The Pentagon’s top lawyer said Friday that the Obama administration has not abandoned the possibility of transferring some prisoners from the Guantanamo Bay detention center to a prison in the United States despite strong congressional concerns.
WASHINGTON (USA Today) — Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to closing the detention center for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay and moving some of the detainees to prisons on U.S. soil, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds.
By more than 2-1, those surveyed say Guantanamo shouldn’t be closed . By more than 3-1, they oppose moving some of the accused terrorists housed there to prisons in their own states.
However, Obama’s plan to close the U.S. military detention center at Guantanamo Bay was supported by 93 percent of Palestinians, 91 percent of Lebanese.
I can only conclude that Obama is working for the muslim and arab world.

The Silent Riot At Bagram
From the did you know file, did you know that the United States continues to operate, and assert the legality of operating, a detention facility that indefinitely locks up suspects without charging them? No, not Guantanamo, which the President has vowed to close. I’m talking about Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan, which is not merely a POW facility but which ships in terror suspects from all over the world and confines them in a legal black hole. There is little knowledge of this or outcry about it in the United States, but the prisoners themselves have begun acts of civil disobedience.
The 620 prisoners at Bagram, more than twice that of Guantanamo, have no access to attorneys. The facility is being rebuilt to hold even more prisoners, up to 1,000. And at least over three dozen of them have been captured around the world and transferred to Bagram, with no connection whatsoever to the war in Afghanistan.
http://d-day.blogspot.com/2009/07/silent-riot-at-bagram.html
Meanwhile, where Obama really seems to have put most of his effort on improving his personal stardom:
“Chief among Obama’s foreign policy directives experiencing significant confidence blowback among Arabs and Muslims in the Middle-East was the White House stance on the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
At least two-thirds of respondents from Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan don’t expect the U.S. president to practice a fair hand when negotiating a potential peace settlement with the Middle-East’s longest running and most intractable conflict.
[Among]Palestinians showed very little trust in the new US president with only 22 percent saying that Obama inspired confidence versus 52 percent for Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.”
I’m thinking Obama needs to go apologize for America some more, maybe in Eygpt again. Or, he might invite the arab and muslim leaders to the white house where he can calibrate his words better over a beer.

Jimbo says “I can only conclude that Obama is working for the muslim and arab world.”
——————-
When did I say this?
And btw David, Obama’s actions which are opposed by most Americans and welcomed by most Muslims would indicate that Obama is represented which country?
I like that word, “blowback”.
Obama blowback.
Blowback Obama.
June 14, 2006 “I’d like to close Guantanamo,” Mr Bush said.
“No question, Guantanamo sends, you know, a signal to some of our friends – provides an excuse, for example, to say, ’The United States is not upholding the values that they’re trying (to) encourage other countries to adhere to.’
Obama is certainly medaling in Israel Affairs Again – Taking the Side of the Muslims, AGAIN
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2009/07/26/netanyahu-israel-wants-understanding/
Israel’s prime minister says he will try to work out his country’s policy disagreements with the U.S. in meetings this week with high-profile American envoys.
Netanyahu is set to meet this week with Mideast peace envoy George Mitchell, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, National Security Adviser James Jones and top Iran and Mideast specialist Dennis Ross.
The U.S. administration is trying to get Israel to freeze construction in its West Bank settlements and to shelve plans for an attack on Iran’s nuclear program.
Netanyahu says there are “naturally” differences of opinion between Israel and the U.S., but that the sides are “trying to reach an understanding.”
” Mr Bush said.”
Who cares what Bush said? Bush is history. You won. Remember? Get over it.
Now, what is Mr. Obama saying?
“JimJohnson” presents –
“Obama is certainly medaling in Israel Affairs…”
And all this time I thought it was “…an exhibition, not a competition.”
” Taking the Side of the Muslims, AGAIN”
Unbelievable. Obama sides with the arabs and the polls show arabs favor Osama Bin Laden over Obama by huge margins.
And the jews and Israel? Historically they have been our allies and approval ratings ran high.
Obama insists on giving up on our loyal allies and standing up for those who have sworn death to America. But for no gain.
My point is that nearly everyone believes the Gitmo prison must be shut down, except for those who just want to make nonsensical partisan political attacks that have no rational underpinnings.

US: Parade of officials to caution Israel
By ANNE GEARAN (AP) – 15 hours ago
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is dispatching four of its most senior foreign policy and security figures to Israel this coming week with the same message on two open questions causing friction between the close allies: Don’t do it.
Taking a firmer line with Israel than the Bush administration, President Barack Obama is urging Israel to stop all settlement construction in the West Bank or risk closing off the most promising avenues for peace negotiations.
Washington also wants Israel to shelve any plan for a military strike to sabotage Iran’s nuclear facilities, arguing that Obama’s offer of engagement and talks with Iran deserves time to bear fruit. Obama’s senior military advisers say a strike could cause more problems than it solves in the short run, but Israeli leaders are firm that their small country in Iran’s line of fire must make such calculations for itself.
(It sure is easy for Obama to tell Israel what to do, but it’s Israel that is minutes away from a missile strike from Iran.)

3 Helicopters & 15 Minute Siren Bursts & Cops Everywhere & University of South Florida Lockdown
Did aliens land? Did Iran & N.Korea launch nukes at us? Mass murders in progress?
Nope.
Just a gun report:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,534835,00.html?test=latestnews
TAMPA, Fla. — Authorities say a man who touched off a lockdown and manhunt at the University of South Florida has been detained for mental evaluation.
University police were told Friday that a man had called a crisis hot line to say he was in a parking lot next to a campus building. He said he had a gun and was willing to use it.
Major J.D. Withrow with the USF Police Department said the man called the Crisis Center Friday and told an operator he was near Bio-Sciences building, and was armed.
“We were given a specific location. He indicated that he had a firearm and was willing to use it,” Withrow said.
The school remained on lockdown for several hours while offficers tried to find the the man. The lockdown was lifted after 2pm and normal activities were allowed to resume.
A message on the school’s website told students to stay inside and lock their doors and avoid the area near the Bio-Science building.
A siren sound periodically at the university during the lockdown followed by the message “gunman on campus.”
The message was changed to inform anyone on campus of the “all clear”.
The sirens are a recent addition to the campus’ emergency notification system. They were installed in an effort to prevent incidents like the Virginia Tech tragedy.
http://www.abcactionnews.com/news/local/story/Alleged-USF-gunman-baker-acted/5mTy-T6sh0aOhPj6_fpbAA.cspx
Jon Catuccio, who works at the school, said that a little before noon someone said over a loudspeaker that a gunman had been reported at the bioscience building in the heart of campus and people should stay inside.
He said he got an e-mail with the same information and everyone was “kind of hanging out” and waiting to see what happens.
Student Lawrence Stawkowski, 24, saw three helicopters flying around and said an alarm went off every 15 minutes.
“I wasn’t too afraid,” he said. “I was just surprised, a little shocked.”
http://www.wptv.com/content/breakingnews/story/All-clear-issued-after-search-for-gunman-on-USF/RrOAJ2Mk-Eu99fipQLG3Ww.cspx

Obviously David you know something the polls don’t:
WASHINGTON (USA Today) — Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to closing the detention center for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay and moving some of the detainees to prisons on U.S. soil, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds.
By more than 2-1, those surveyed say Guantanamo shouldn’t be closed .
Per DavidB
33% = “nearly everyone”
Why clear out Gitmo? Because we need the space for guys like you! WHAaHaAA!!!! I couldn’t help it.
I don’t have time to recap the eight year history of Gitmo, nor the time to explain the rule of law right now…
You could review the dozens of legal rulings here, if you really give a _____ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guantanamo_Bay_detention_camp
“nonsense”
Really?
2/3rd of Americans do not want GITMO closed.
The majority of arabs/muslims what GITMO closed.
If GITMO closes: Who does that please?
By more than 3-1, Americans do NOT want GITMO prisoners brought to US prisons.
If Obama brings them to the CONUS, who is Obama listening to?
Numbers are not nonsense.
I’d wager the key to that 3- 1 lies in the question’s “and moving some of the detainees to prisons on U.S. soil”
Most Americans do not know some 350 terrorists are already in US prisons on US soil.

Just another Lib who CAN’T answer that question.
My question is when we are sending all of these high level officials to meet with Israel – where is our Secretary of State. Doesn’t Hillary get to attend the big meetings. Is she going to be reduced to trading insults with Kim Jong Il?
Well, if the law were a popularity contest and if Obama made policy strictly based on polls instead of principles and law, you might have a valid argument.
David what you DIDNT say was that Bush ‘wanted’ to close GITMO. Who doesn’t. He however never tried to move them to the continental US to live among us.
A major difference in what these two prez presented.

Although prison breakouts occur all the time.
So at least a prison on the island of Cuba would make it a little more difficult for the Gitmo guys to go anywhere, IF they were able to breakout.
” Is she going to be reduced to trading insults with Kim Jong Il?”
Clinton “by no means intelligent” and a “funny lady.”
“Sometimes she looks like a primary schoolgirl and sometimes a pensioner going shopping,”
Personally, I think Obama needs to take a world trip and make a speech in Korea to apologize and admit we started the Korean War. I’m sure he could calibrate his words to gain in popularity and as a rock star.
Well David a case could be made that he is affected by polls. He threw Wright under the bus when the polls showed he should. He just this week threw Gates over when the polls showed he came down on the wrong side of the arrest. He crucified his own white grandmother by calling her a racist to stay on good terms with blacks.
In many instances he has been driven by polls. Why do you think he isn’t now. The problem is that the pit he dug was so deep he can’t climb out of it right now until he get off that far left edge and moves to the center as Bill Clinton also had to do. Same with Bush. He had to move to the center to salvage what ratings he had.
We are a nation of centrists and Obama is seeing that. Now the problem is how to advance his socialistic agenda and stay out of the cellar.
It’s ok to have Bagram stay open though.
It didn’t become a campaign issue in 2008.

JJ as you and I have stated for over a year location is only a political decision.
There are two issues:
1. The location of the terrorist inmates
2. The legal status; trials and sentencing
(There was a third issue which was torturing.)
I don’t believe the war criminals need to be physically moved, at great expense and some risk, in order to resolve the legal issues.
What we need more than anything – are speedy trials. I believe that would resolve the issues, except for examination of the policy – to be better prepared in the future.
Clinton keeps screwing up – look at the Nuclear Umbrella she put up last week, that Obama had to take down!
Then she gets into a 2nd Graders style ‘debate’ with North Korea.
The question is not ‘If’, but ‘When’ will Obama break Hillary’s other elbow?

What good is a Democrat Majority if y’all can’t do anything??????????
Who ya gonna blame now?
Yer right, okie. Bush just ‘wanted’ to close Gitmo, but had no intention of doing so. Kind of like he ‘wanted’ to find the massive stocks of Iraqi WMD, and how he ‘wanted’ to be a compassionate conservative, and how he ‘wanted’ to be a uniter and not a divider, and how he ‘wanted’ the markets to regulate themselves. heeheehee!!! All hat and no cows.
Mr Obama ordered a comprehensive review of detention facilities, he is actually working to relocate Gitmo detainees, he has moved American troops out of Iraqi cities, he has forcefully intervened in the economy to the point that the perception is growing that the recession is over….
There’s ‘wanting’ and there’s doing.
What do we “earn” from Gitmo?
BENEFITS:
Safety? No, we have perfectly adequate max security prisons within the 48.
Military intelligence? Maybe: depends on who’s currently held there. But certainly the military intelligence to be gained there would not be valuable in terms of preventing another 9/11 attack. In fact, the NSA and/or the FBI could render a random Muslim anywhere in the world, put him in Gitmo, and the odds are that we’d get better intelligence about a domestic terrorist attack on the US than we’d get from, say, a Taliban pulled off the battlefield in Afghanistan and dropped in Gitmo. Why? Because the Taliban yanked off the battlefield has his hands full fighting Americans. He has no time to plot terrorism in the US. We can’t say the same for the random Muslim.
US prestige? A wash. Gitmo hurts our reputation among allies and those within which we would like to nurture democracy. However, keeping Gitmo open acts to legitimize its original intent and to mainstream the poor decisions of a Bush administration that was in over its head.
COSTS:
US prestige in the world at large.
False sense of security from domestic terrorist activity.
—
And that’s why we should close Gitmo: it’s close, but the costs outweigh the benefits.
Bagram is being EXPANDED!
“US prestige? A wash. Gitmo hurts our reputation among allies and those within which we would like to nurture democracy.”
“Palestinians showed very little trust in the new US president with only 22 percent saying that Obama inspired confidence versus 52 percent for Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.””

Give the credit to Bush who signed the US-Iraq Security Pact back on 14 December, 2008 which required the removal of coalition/us forces from the cities.
Geez, next up you will be crediting Obama for withdrawing all US Forces by 2011.
David at least lets me honest here. Obama moved troops out of Iraqi cities because that was the schedule established under Bush. He merely stuck to the plan.
MH your absurdity is showing. Clinton has been banished to a secondary position in her own State Department and you would admit it if you were honest.
lets me = lets be
” he has forcefully intervened in the economy to the point that the perception is growing that the recession is over”
The recovery was bound to happen sooner or later.
The decision to credit Obama whenever it happens is a foregone conclusion.
Let’s give it a few months and see for sure when to whip out the celebrations. In my area, unemployment is still over 10% and people are hurting. One week of stock market upswings is good news – but hardly cause for celebration.

“Part of the reason for July’s sharply higher fatalities — for American troops and for British and other NATO forces — is the three-week-old offensive in opium-rich Helmand Province, where United States Marines and British soldiers are trying to take control of areas dominated by the Taliban.”
Why does Obama have to stir up the hornet’s nest, can’t he just continue the Bush Plan, and ignore the Taliban stronghold, and money base area?

In the U.S., engineering professors were seven times as likely as other professors to be both right wing and religious. Similar ratios were found with students.
“A lot of piecemeal evidence suggests that characteristics such as greater intolerance of ambiguity, a belief that society can be made to work like clockwork, and dislike of democratic politics which involves compromise, are more common among engineers,” the authors concluded.
And the b*stard says we “celebrated” death milestones! You, sir, have no honor.

It is America’s fight to get the guys who did it to us but we’ve had some pretty good wingmen and maybe Obama and Clinton recognize that. “How can we help you to help us help you” IS diplomacy, we just haven’t practiced it much in the last 8-9 years which resulted in the citizens of our “allies” hating our guts. Duh Libs are only concerned with military casualties if the opposition is in charge.
Otherwise, if it doesn’t enter the national media via the MSM, then military members could drop like flies and duh Libs could careless.
As long as it doesn’t affect their bong time it’s okay with them.
“The vast majority of women seeking late-term abortions from Dr. Tiller’s clinic were from other states, records and testimony show. Dozens more came each year from Canada and other countries.”
Another big advantage of for-profit medicine over socialized health care: abortion-on-demand.
Well done, capitalists.
O’BAMA vows to shoot down Homosexual agenda bill
–because it’s tied to the F-22 bill
When Sen. Leahy (D-VT) attached the pro-homosexual “Pedophile Protection Act” to the Defense Authorization Act, he imagined zero resistance from House Democrats, or from President Obama. He failed to realize, however, how the battle to fund the F-22 Raptor jet for our Air Force could shoot the homosexual agenda down in flames. President Obama has vowed to veto the entire bill, and kill the pro-homosexual “Hate Crimes” amendment with it.

While the CONs were calling us libs “terrorist lovers” and “our wives would be wearing burkhas” etc, they neglected to remember that the libs never protested the War in Afghanistan.
We supported it then, and we support it now. The real “geographic base” of Al Qaeda has to be routed of these terrorists. No question about that.
Unlike Iraq, the UN too had no problem supporting the Afghanistan operation, as even the hated French have troops there.
It wasn’t casualties that we condemned, for casualities are always the result of war–it was the unnecessary, illegal and immoral War in Iraq itself.

The photographs demonstrate starkly how global warming is changing the Arctic. More than a million square kilometres of sea ice – a record loss – were missing in the summer of 2007 compared with the previous year.
Nor has this loss shown any sign of recovery. Ice cover for 2008 was almost as bad as for 2007, and this year levels look equally sparse.
Arctic ocean = less than 3% of the earths surface.

Capn when in Alaska a couple of years back I asked an old Alaskan what he thought about global warming. He was our guide at the Mendenhall glacier in Juneau. His opinion was that glaciers in his lifetime have always tended to shrink on the side that gets the most sun and grow on the shady side. It seemed simplistic at the time but on reflection this was what was said on the National Geographic special about the shrinking of the snows on Killimanjaro.

Did anybody else think that Newman and OR had been served today by Roeder?
I think he’s getting ready to crack and spill the beans.
Cosmos until you prove differently that old Alaskan has more credibility than you do.
Roeder was Newman’s worst nightmare, IMHO.
The assassin made Operation Rescue
1. unnecessary in this town for the foreseeable future AND
2. alienated the moderate “pro-lifers” who don’t want to support Christian terrorism.
Newman better look for a new line of work . . .
Troy Newman claims Roeder never donated any money nor was he ever a member. Yeah, kinda like if you go to Operation Rescue’s website there were never any posts made by Roeder, like this one:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/15983466/Operation-Rescue
Troy probably just scrubbed the name from his database. Let’s have Roeder produce the receipts, then we can look at those tax forms from Operation Rescue and see if Troy committed some tax fraud.
” Dozens more came each year from Canada and other countries.”
From Canada? The land of Shangri-La socialized medicine?
Imagine that.
And all the lost out-of-state income for the city too.
Interesting, MPunk.
Question: what did the Holocaust museum shooter, Roeder, and the Universalist Church shooter all have in common?
They all posted on the right-wing FreeRepublic website.
Hmmm . . . .
One of the Roeder quotes from the article in this morning’s Wichita Eagle was:
“He also spoke about jury nullification, a concept that when the law is wrong, a jury has the right to take the law into its own hands.
When asked if he was considering raising the issue at his trial, he said, “I will try and educate the jury without bringing up the term ‘jury nullification.’”
Made me think of the many times here on this blog the evil libaruhls are told they need to be educated, informed… :-)
How many anti-choice people does anyone expect at the courthouse Tuesday? The assassination carried out by terrorist Roeder probably means they’ll need to be more careful about where they are, what they say…
Yes, I agree that it sounded like Roeder plans to “tell all.”
okobserver,
Opinions are not science.
The disgusting pos is putting himself out there are a martyr. He’s psycho for sure, but the thing that scares me worse are his supporters. I hope the feds are watching.
You know, Kansas Meadowlark is from that area too, it reminded me of it when I saw his name posted on the OR website.
This may be a rare instance when there shouldn’t even BE a trial.
Several people witnessed Roeder in the act of assassinating Dr. Tiller. What exactly is there to bring TO trial?
If even ONE anti choicer gets on the jury, they can hang the jury by refusing to convict Roeder because they think Roe V Wade is bad law. This creep could tie up the legal system in court costs for years.
ahhh…so now bj determines who is entitled to the constitutional RIGHT of a trial by jury and who is not entitled to that right?
such consideration for the laws of this country. only apply them when bj says to?
sort of like freedom of speech only applies to people who agree with bj.
Raptor, evidence of how corrupt the democrats of America have become. It has become almost a cult. A religion. It is their way – or the highway.
The rule of law is only important – when the republicans don’t follow it.
For someone on the todem poll in Jay’s place to express such beliefs is a scary thought indeed.
American_Way: Although abortion is legal in Canada no one is required to provide the service if it offends their religious or ethical values (that goes for civil servants and same sex marraiges, no one is required to process or officiate at them)and given many hospitals are faith based, abortion is usually done in a seres of clinics designed for that purpose. Maybe what is one in the clinic discussed was unique, in that case the Canadian or other univesal insurance systems would have no problem sending women, all expenses paid….of course. It’s the insurance system, not a healthcare systems that is simply better than what we have.
A murderer kills a murderer without a trial.
This outrage causes the followers of the murdered murderer to demand the same.
“The rule of law is only important – when the republicans don’t follow it.”
Roeder intends to argue that he is not a murderer because it was not wrong to kill the person he killed. He is part of no small number of people who think they have a line to “God” on how to tell other people how to live and what to do.
Don’t throw reverence for the law at me before your side gets a grasp on it.
“abortion is usually done in a seres of clinics designed for that purpose”
Still, it seems like a long way to go, leaving your own country, for a Canadian woman to travel to far flung Kansas for an abortion. Couldn’t get one accomplished anywhere in that big old land to our north?
” He is part of no small number of people who think they have a line to “God” on how to tell other people how to live and what to do.”
Exactly like your 7:15PM post.
You and Roeder are two peas from the same pod.
Sursum you make a case for the Canadian system but you address nothing in the Obama plan. This is covered. Read the verbage and tell me a hospital or clinic would not be required to give tax payer funded abortions.

I said he had more credibility than you. Didn’t reference science.
Dunno, I’d assume New York or something, it’s about the only rationale I can come up with sending them that far south. The Toronto Sun had an article about a child for whom the local Sick Kids hospital who could do nothing more for, so the surgeon got on the blower to a classmate now in California who offered assurances and the child was transferred to that clinic for a series of operations, fully paid for by the insurance system. That was 2 years ago and now the child has to go back for some follow-up. What the article was discussng was the travel costs, the parents wanted the system to pay the travel costs but because it was for a follow-up it will pay only for the medical portion, with which the paper agreed. Even if it’s free everybody tries to squeeze a little extra
” Even if it’s free”
Nothing is free.
I was watching that TV show, Deadliest Catch, it appeared to me that the ships were having great difficulty maneuvering through the ice.
And, of course, out of a thousand photos, why did the group the Capn pointed out, choose ONE?

Please remember this cosmos, when you post your opinion on the legitimacy of real scientists who do real scientific research and real scientific observation that differ from what you are spoon fed by the IPCC.
BlueJay could have calibrated his trial remarks a little better. But even if some stealth anti-abortion extremist gets on a jury and thwarts a fair trial, the Feds would no doubt step in and try the SOB for violating the good Doctor’s civil rights.

Tiahrt has been trying desperately to get admitted into C-Street, but they judge him as not ready for Prime Time, based on the stupid things that spill from his mouth, as we recently saw…
Daniel, I know a hit piece when I see one, or a promo for one. The left is always so predictable. I often know what they are going to do next even before they know. What you are seeing is panic and desperation setting in.
They so hoped that Sebelius would produce a bumper crop of young progressive liberal democrats that would sweep over Kansas and turn it from solid red to deep purple or in their wildest dreams, blue. Instead, Sebelius is in D.C. failing miserably and will be sent packing back to (Ohio?) within a year and the red tide is rising even higher in Kansas.

Just who generates the so-called credible science that cosmos claims?
Let’s take a look:
downloaded IPCC WGII’s latest report on “Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability”. There were 380 contributors to the report. … Of the 51 UK contributors to the report, there were 5 economists, 3 epidemiologists, 5 who were either zoologists, entomologists, or biologists. 5 worked in civil engineering or risk management/insurance. 7 had specialisms in physical geography (we gave the benefit of the doubt to some academics whose profiles weren’t clear about whether they are physical or human geographers). And just 10 have specialisms in geophysics, climate science or modelling, or hydrology. But there were 15 who could only be described as social scientists. If we take the view that economics is a social science, that makes 20 social scientists.
“Of 70 US contributors, there were 7 economists, 13 social scientists, 3 epidemiologists, 10 biologists/ecologists, 5 engineers, 2 modellers/statisticians, 1 full-time activist (and 1 part time), 5 were in public health and policy, and 4 were unknowns. 17 worked in earth/atmospheric sciences.”
Just in the U.S. representatives alone, out of 70 people, 39 were not Climate Scientists and 13 were not scientists of any kind!
Yeah – credible science – not!
” The left is always so predictable. I often know what they are going to do next even before they know.”

What was actually said at the Obama press conference:
“[Police Sgt. James Crowley] also did say he wanted to find out if there was a way of getting the press off his lawn. (Laughter.) I informed him that I can’t get the press off my lawn. (Laughter.) He pointed out that my lawn is bigger than his lawn. (Laughter.) Since this is the open thread I’m going to post something different here.
For background, I’m an old farmboy from a rural route of a small midwestern town. From there, I ventured outward and did a military career with people from all walks in life. My best friend at work, is black. I am a white boy raised among corn and bean fields.
I recently took a business trip to a large metropolitan city. I was staying outside the “beltway” for extra ciricular activities when not working.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I took the commuter train from my lodging to the downtown location of my business.
I happened to be first one to take a seat in this particular train car. I got on with a black man.
He sat on the left, I sat on the right. (this is NOT a political statement, just geography).
Anyway, not being a regular, I was observant of the scenery as we moved past it, and as we pulled up to subsequent stops as we proceeded into the big city.
Exactly 12 people ended up on our car. Six black people took separate seats on the left side, and six white people, including me, ended up sitting on the right.
There were plenty of seats open. In fact, the train was so empty at this early hour, that each of us had an entire seat for ourselves. They hold two people.
I don’t even know why I noticed this, except for the fact that maybe it’s because I wasn’t a regular rider and everything was new for me.
I almost wanted to ask everyone why they picked the particular seats they took. In my case, I boarded the car first, with one other passenger, who happened to be black. He sat on the left, and I just took the seat across from him.
Could it be this simple?

Well Roeder, I mean Bluejay, I guess you didn’t catch my reply to the first responder.
Gotcha.
But guess what the news will be full of on Monday when everyone is back to work?
Well by golly it will be the beer party at the white house for the long time Obama friend (and future book writer on prejudice), and a professional white police officer who volunteered his time teaching a class on racial profiling.
And thanks to our boot president getting involved in local affairs and failing miserably on national and international affairs, we will be treated to some folksy funnies by Obama on that memorial and historically worthless event.
