Ensign’s parents paid off mistress

ensignThe parents of Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., gave $96,000 last year to the staffer who was his mistress and to her family, supposedly “out of concern for the well-being of longtime family friends during a difficult time.” The payments roughly coincide with the resignation of the staffer and her husband, who has Ensign’s chief of staff, the Washington Post reported. Ensign  had denied that he provided any severance payments or other financial assistance for the couple _ which, I guess, is technically true.

Senator Ensign’s parents certainly are generous folk.

The most interesting part of the article was Senator Coburn saying that he shouldn’t be compelled to testify in any potential investigation by citing the physician/patient privilege. Why would a 51 year-old male need the services of an obstetrician?

Michael Ensign has more recently sought to get back into the gambling business by teaming up with a development company in Topeka, Kan., to bid on operating a casino in south-central Kansas, according to news reports.”

    Oh, c’mon, CONs –

Eight $12,000 checks so each can be reported to the IRS as a “gift” instead income?

    From Mom & Dad?

    To your concubine?

Now, given the historic corruption of the Nevada Repubic Party, you can almost sympathize with Ensign’s bewilderment someone noticed…this time.

But this isn’t about “hiking the Appalachian Trai” or “passing the ball” or even boinking your best friend’s (and loyal employee’s) wife.

No, this is about what it takes to become a “rising star” in the Repubic Party these days.

A wink and a “you betcha!” makes you vice-presidential material.

Finding your “soul mate” on a taxpayer-financed junket to South America doesn’t taint your “Family Values” agenda.

If Mommy & Daddy’s money got George WMD Bush outta Dutch, why should Ensign expect the same treatment?

And the CONs on this forum run not only to defend these fools, but to attack anyone who happens to mention these supposed “rising stars” in the Repubic Party are proving themselves to be bats#it crazy. And corrupt. And ignorant. And arrogant.

    C’mon, CONs.

You can dance on the side of the floor where “George WMD Bush was never really a ‘CON.’” Or all those CONs “…are really RINOS!” Or, “The Moose-Dresser now has the world and the party and the media and David Letterman exactly where she wants ‘em.

But don’t think for a moment you’re possibly fooling anyone but yourselves.

A couple of years ago, you “original intent constitutionalists” were ready to amend the Constitution so Ahnold the Governator could bring this nation to the Austrian Reich you’re all creaming about.

Down in Florida, Charlie Christ is getting attacks from twice-born CONs because he’s middle-aged, thin, and dresses well. (So, obviously, he’s gay.)

Boehner can take credit for highway projects in Ohio on Saturday, thanks to the stimulus package and go on Meet the Press on Sunday and claim the stimulus has “…created no jobs!” apparently unaware of the concept of videotape.

But the issue isn’t about the politicians, really. It’s about the people who tune into the Fakes Noise Channel and their daily Limbaugh-tomizations, and answer to every Beck and call… and think, somehow, they’ve got the inside track to reality.

Take a tip from your beloved NASCAR, CONs –

You can’t insist on turning right and win a race.

I do hope ensign’s parents paid the gift tax and didn’t take the amount as a charitable deduction, less we all paid for ensigns hush money.
“Starting in 2006 the IRS determined that gifts under $12,000 per year were exempt from federal gift tax, which is an increase from the $10,000 limit set for years prior. If you give a gift valued over this amount your gift will be taxed at the current gift tax rate of eighteen percent. Federal gift tax laws also state that there is a lifetime deduction amount of $2 million. If you donate more that this amount in your lifetime than you will be subject to a forty-five percent gift tax rate.”

These two guys and I am sure there are others are more one sided and opinionated than anything I have ever heard from Glenn Beck or Bill O’Reilly. Keith Olbermann is completely over the top and never delivers news rather he delivers hate and extreme far left liberal commentary. If you believe what these two have to say then all taxpayers should be more than happy to turn their hard earned paychecks over to Nancy Pelosi (the leader of the west coast cartel) and the Chicago mob (O’Bama’s cabinet and other appointees) because they know better than you as to how your money should be spent. Weeks later, Ensign would call on Clinton to resign. “I came to that conclusion recently, and frankly it’s because of what he put his whole Cabinet through and what he has put the country through,” he was quoted saying at the time. “He has no credibility left,” he added.

From an article about the Ensign Reed debate back in the day, doesn’t support what fleetie’s saying.
“Clear differences emerged during a series of questions from the audience. Ensign repeated his call for President Clinton’s resignation in light of his admitted affair with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. Reid called the affair immoral but said he would “keep an open mind” and let the process proceed before deciding whether to impeach Clinton.”
Ensign also made the distinction between being accused of something and having admitted it, which was why he didn’t call for Vitter to resign, but did call for Craig to resign.
But, of course the fact that Craig would’ve been replaced by a repub and Vitter wouldn’t had nothing to do with it.
