I think you are laboring under a false assumption there. You ever hear of the Libertarians? I think it was PJ O’Rourke who said that a Libertarian is just a Republican who wants to be able to legally smoke weed.
Drug usage is largely a bi-partisan exercise and highlights the trouble one inevitably encounters when trying to identify each issue with the traditional left-right break down.
BTW…..legalizing drugs would eliminate all that senseless violence associated with the illegal drug trade in the same way that end of alcohol prohibition ended the violence associated with the illegal alcohol trade.
