Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, hasn’t wasted opportunities to cast himself as preferable to his rival for the GOP Senate nomination next year, Rep. Jerry Moran, R-Hays. But Tiahrt’s first statewide TV ad in the race suggests he isn’t running against Moran but against President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and the “so-called stimulus plan.” The ad ends: “Help Todd Tiahrt stop Obama and Pelosi now.”

Jerry Moran has been an achiever throughout his life since his youth in Hays, Kansas. Tiahrt, a South Dakota drop out, has not. So who should Kansans choose for their next U.S. Senator? You decide.
Beware of high-powered, inside the Washington beltway, political marketing firms who will soon be operating in Kansas trying to win the hearts and minds of Kansans to vote for Tiahrt and Brownback.
“JWink” –
If “high-powered, inside the Washington beltway, political marketing firms … will soon be operating in Kansas trying to win the hearts and minds of Kansans,” the Repubic Party is in far worse shape than I ever imagined.
As has been noted in WE Blog many times, you’re virtually assured in Kansas to be elected if you have an (R) after your name on a ballot.
If Toad Tiahrt and Sam (the Sham) need of “…high-powered, inside the Washington beltway, political marketing firms … operating in Kansas trying to win the hearts and minds of Kansans…” the whole CON movement is in beeeg trouble.
It’s too bad Tiahrt and Moran are running against each other and there will be a loser.
They are both excellent candidates, both of which I would like to see in office.
Monkey continues to cling desperately to his alleged “shock jock” past. Ignore him.
I am very impressed with Jerry Moran. He might be a less strident to Tiahrt. But both are good hard working people who would do a great job as Senator.
He might be a less strident ALTERNATIVE to Tiahrt.
Tiahrt is against stimulus spending? For years he was ranting about how he was going to bring billions to Wichita to build tankers at Boeing. Now he’s saying he’s opposed to such spending? Yeah, kinda like how he was against term limits.
Tiahrt will say whatever he thinks will make him more popular. He knows that if he lies to the people there are enough stupid people who will continue to vote for him.
That’s it, “outlander” –
Advocate ignorance!
It’s pretty much all you’ve got.
“Maggotpunk” notes –
“…Tiahrt will say whatever he thinks will make him more popular.”
It’s even more than that.
Toad Tiahrt is so embedded into DC’s Repubic Party apparatus of the National GOP.
It’s a safe bet Kansans will return to form and elect a freshman Repubic Party Senator who will be absolutely powerless in the Democratically-dominated Congress.
At most, Repububic Party voters in Kansas should consider voting for a Senator who’s not just a parrot of national GOP talking points; a viable voice of the loyal opposition.
No evidence at all Toad Tiahrt would be that voice. Moran? I dunno. Neither congresscritter has achieved any prominence in Congress when they’ve been there.
Moran should print up bumper stickers that say:
Moran — Not as Crazy as Tiahrt!
(Then again, that would probably alienate the crazy coalition of the Kansas Repubic Party; y’know, their base.)
Go Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, U.S. Senator.
I wonder if Tiahrt used taxpayer money to send Matt Schlapp down to Florida to protest the recount.
Tiahrt vs NObama and Piglosi; one is an American and the other two are COmmunists
If the criteria for being a U.S. Senator is putting the nation’s vital interests above all, neither man is qualified.
Maybe Tiahrt could get Sanford to back him up on the ’so called stimulus plan’!
Tiahrt’s slogan ‘Stimulus, we don’t need no stinkin stimulus, I’m doing just fine’.
Tiahrt just may be the next Sanford!
Tiahrt is ALSO running against all of his constituents who are not rich.
Some dem should run against them. Play up the fact that if you vote republican, you’re voting against all Kansans having adequate health insurance, and extended unemploymnent benefits. It’s one thing to vote against your self interest when the state is doing well, quite another when we’re in a serious slump.
Well, children, it must be he11 to be a rabid dog liberal and live in such a backward State as Kansas!
Makes a little difference which wins, Tiahrt or Moran. However, Tiahrt is the best choice for Kansas.
If your a liberal take pictures, keep a journal and enjoy yourselves. This will be the ‘good ol’ days’ to you!
The chosen one is going to take you and your ilk down the drain with him.
My money is on Tiahrt. Christian, neighbor, friend.
“Christian, neighbor, friend.”
Management drone and toady for the rich.
Same could be said of Sanford, Christian, neighbor…
Good morning, junior!
Got your Lawn Boy started yet?
“Help Todd Tiahrt stop Obama and Pelosi (from making your lives better) now.”
There, I fixed it.
Tiahrt playing it safe, campaigning against two people who won’t campaign against him, and probably don’t even know he exists.
Actually, Phantom, running against Pelosi and Obama is a very effective ploy. Moran is a good man, Tiahrt is just better.
By campaigning against the opposition party we are reminded of why we are sending a Republican to the Senate.
It is necessary for the survival of our country that we stop the socialist march to the left!
Two party of No’ers trying to outdo each other, should be interesting, NOT.
I also see this as a play by Tiahrt, sensing a vacuum, to become the next No STIMULUS repub champion.
Kansas: It just refuses to matter.
Campaigning as a Con everything, with no ideas will play well in good ol’ Ks.
Phantom,
And just what were the Democrats under Bush? Oh yeah, the “party of no”
My goodness, you liberals will take these little one liners and not only run with them, actually beleive their absurdity too.

Tiahrt’s slogan ‘Stimulus, we don’t need no stinkin stimulus, I’m doing just fine’.
I’m sure a well informed poster, such as yourself, has looked beyond the “GIMME FREE SCHIT” fog and seen the strings attached to the stimulus funds.
You do understand that every dollar accepted has a price don’t you?
Of course you do.
People used to think that if you had small forehead space that you were stupid. Tiahrt proves that belief is correct.
Switching to the Republic party for a day, just to vote for Moran. It’s my civic duty and I will take plenty of showers on that Tuesday.
“. . .I will take plenty of showers on that Tuesday.”

We’ll all appreciate that! Maybe you can take scooter with you!

————————————
Why not?
Obama ran against Bush.
And the Press Beat That Drum Constantly.
Bush ran against Clinton’s affair, and we all got screwed.
Phantom how did Bush run against Clinton’s affair? I don’t remember that in the campaign. Or is this just another liberal deflection to keep from discussing real issues.

Steven is your post upthread an example of what you were talking about last night?

Jay,
This blog is not getting much better in terms of what it aspires to be.
Even Phillip Brownlee is disappointed in this venue. Did I send you his email to me?
Who could dispute that it tends to be a bunch of very dumb asses arguing about stuff that matters little in the overall scope of things?

Truth dat. What I find amazing are the low-brows who post all day every day. You KNOW they’re really productive people…NOT.
XXX I would love to see a forum where thoughts and opinions are discussed. I think we have a widely varied audience here and could touch on many good ideas. That said I get down in the mud with the rest at times. Usually I just leave the board.
We can’t point fingers at either side and say they are totally to blame. But we can refuse to play the games.
Send Todd to the Senate and Pelosi’s dead in her tracks! Har, har, har.
Bush big deal was that he was going to restore honor and dignity to the WH, Character Matters! LOL
Send Todd to the Senate, and Obama is derailed, LOL.
Until they abolish the 17th ammendment, Senators are nothing more than glorified house members.
I imagine that Senators need to get back to representing the state by becoming elected by state representatives.
This is how the founders intended it to be and for good reason.
