Newt Gingrich gave a meaty defense of conservative principles during his keynote address at the GOP congressional fundraiser Monday, but he was upstaged by the circus over whether Sarah Palin was or wasn’t coming to the dinner, reported Dan Balz of the Washington Post. Gingrich tried to “bridge the differences between those Republicans who prefer a smaller, purer, more conservative party and those who say the party’s only hope is to expand its appeal and attract moderates and independents,” Balz wrote. “Gingrich called (for) both an adherence to conservative values and for the party to be inclusive, saying that any party that aspires to be a majority party should expect vigorous debate and disagreement.” But rather than getting this strong message out, Balz wrote, “the GOP allowed lowbrow chatter about Palin’s attendance rather than something more substantive to dominate the day.”

Then again, it was Newtie who got the Moose-Dresser bumped from the event’s keynote address.
I love infighting in the Repubic Party!
Well, will somebody please tell …. did or didn’t Palin attend Newt’s Republican get-together?
“JWink” –
The Moose-Dresser attended, but Newtie wouldn’t let her sit on the dais or speak.
“the GOP allowed lowbrow chatter about Palin’s attendance”
I was under the impression that republicans did not control the press? Palin did not speak. However, the camera crews for every major media outlet focused on the Palin’s table – even from afar and even during the speech of others.
Can republicans help it that the lib media is so in love with Palin they cannot take their focus off her?
And just WHO’s job is it anyway to REPORT the news? Hmmmmmm?
Perhaps if reporters would have had their hands on their notebooks and pens during the event they might have listened and taken notes on the actual EVENT.
Content doesn’t matter any more in the press – even in the case of Obama. Looks and Charisma do.
There are already plenty of tabloid magazines.
Is it any wonder the newspapers continue to go broke?
The story, “American_Way,” is the vicious infighting among “big tent” Repubics and wing-nut ideologues who think the Moose-Dresser belongs on Mt. Rushmore.
Content doesn’t matter any more in the press – even in the case of Obama. Looks, Charisma, and petty issues do.
Palin 2012!
“the GOP allowed lowbrow chatter ”
Well, that’s sort of all that they have.
Looks like it boils down to which rival candidates for President would rivet the nation’s attention: Gingrich vs Obama OR Palin vs Obama?
Gingrich for Secretary of State anyone?
The Press upstaged Gingrich’s message.
Palin on Mt Rushmore?! Only if the bust includes her ample and luscious bosoms!
Bet there was an even bigger buzz over what she’d wear!Gotta love the GOP even if they’re light on substance.
Palin’s celebrity status will fade shortly.

That is everyday with the media and Michelle Obama.
“Only if the bust includes her ample and luscious bosoms!”
sexist. genderist. Slacker in geography class.
Where are PMomma and Linda to correct you on your treatment of women?
Oh nevermind. You are a lib and the woman is a republican.
Doesn’t matter.
Trailer trash from Wasilla doing pretty good for herself for getting a ‘D’ in economics in college. It’s best they just look at her and don’t let her speak.
Watch the party of higher values trip over each other to personally insult this woman. I’m wasn’t a big fan – but judging by comments here, I may have to rethink that. Anything that gets the libs in such a tizzy has to be good.
Trailer Trash: (ADJ) A derogatory term which become popular within the Clinton Administration. Many thought it was retaliatory for the many jokes about Clinton and Arkansas.

You don’t know the answer to this?
N.O.W. (national organization for women) is only for women, only if you are in lockstep with the liberal mindset.
This thread is classic. No hypocrisy here, huh? The one thing that is absolutely clear is that Palin scares the hell out of the left, who pass on no opportunity to smear her (target you opponent, define her, and demonize; that is the classic tactic, after all). And they own a willing accomplice in the media, which is either too stupid to actually, ya know, report actual news, or still lovingly in the throws of Obama infatuation.
After the election of Obama, where slick, smooth gloss covered a lack of substance (Palin, see had actually held an executive position), Palin offers the kind of slick, attractive package Americans like to vote for. And actual executive experience to boot.
And smears that would never be tolerated were the target, say, a Nancy Pelosi, are ignored or giggled at. The infamous Letterman jokes are par for the course; why aren’t feminists up in arms over Letterman’s sexist smear of Palin and her daughter?
Why? You really have to ask?
Because it’s a Republican getting smeared! That makes it OK. Duh! Don’t you know how the game is played?
The mistake liberals make, of course, it thinking that millions of Americans don’t notice this kind of condescending hypocrisy. They do.
“Palin scares the hell out of the left”
ONLY if she had any chance in he11 of being elected.
She doesn’t. SO, if she runs (she will) I will switch party affiliation to vote for her in the Kansas caucus.
“say, a Nancy Pelosi, are ignored ”
That’s right. Just the other day the lib ladies and gents on this very blog were calling a poster names for insulting Pelosi’s eyebrows!!!!!!
(Regular, yep. Knew that. But love to point out the hypocrisy of the left.)
“Palin scares the hell out of the left”
Bring ‘er on! You betcha. Give her the GOP nomination NOW!
“GMC70″ amuses us with –
“…one thing that is absolutely clear is that Palin scares the hell out of the left….”
Please please please keep thinking that, CONs.
Read Kathleen Parker’s report on how the Moose-Dresser’s biggest critics are with in the Repubic Party –

I think whatever ticket they run will have palin on the top, repubs will wager on setting an historical first, and getting the women vote.
Palin’s a wedge the libs love.
Obama has Executive experience, so if experience counts, having held the top exec. position, it’ll be no contest.
She may run, WS, she may not. I don’t know, neither do you. Her being from Alaska is a huge downside; were she from, say, Texas, with the electoral votes that come with being from a big state (that’s assuming, of course, one actually wins one’s home state) her running – and winning – would be more likely.
But – be careful what you wish for. You might get it.
What’s funny is how Palin exposes the hypocrisy of the left, and how they you all are falling over yourselves to smear her. Why is that? Hmmmmmmm?
Ive always been stuck by what an intellectual lightweight she is. Didn’t we see/learn from the Shrub what the consequences of that are? It doesn’t matter what party one is from- the results of that condition will remain the same.
This thread was obviously written by a person who is either very dense or just a smuck for the Anti-Republican party.
Who’s fault is it that this thread was written about Palin’s attendance at the dinner rather then the content of Gingrich’s speech?
Maybe the WEblog needs to hire a editorial writer who is able to write things besides what is driven by GOP “lowbrow chatter”.
This is case in point for how the media has failed this country. When given the choice to inform the public about policy differences in order to give the American people a clear choice for their future, they choose to focus on Palin’s decision to attend a dinner, Palin’s daughter, her daughter’s boyfriend, her wardrobe, her turkey shot, McCain’s houses that he owns….etc. When will it stop?

I prefer wisdom over intellect any day.
“What’s funny is how Palin exposes the hypocrisy of the left, and how they you all are falling over yourselves to smear her. Why is that?”
How is that different from the Right’s smears of Hillary last year? Was the GOP afraid of Hillary? How about the smears of Michelle Obama? Read some of today’s WEBlog open thread for some examples.
For most of us, we are hoping that Palin gets the nod from the Republicans.
This is the party that gave us george bush.
ARE they vulnerable to being herded into nominating this vacuous airhead to be their candidate in 2012?
You betcha!
“I prefer wisdom over intellect any day.”
Congrats– you’re 0 for 2!
WASHINGTON (CNN) – As the Republican Party struggles to regain its footing following the November elections, a new survey shows that a majority of adult Americans sees no clear leader for the minority political party.
Even more problematic for the GOP is that one-third of Republicans hold an unfavorable view of their party, according to the USA Today/Gallup poll.
When it comes to naming a “main person” who speaks for the GOP, 52 percent of Americans were unable to do so.
Among those who did name a speaker for the GOP, 13 percent identified conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh, while 10 percent named former Vice President Dick Cheney. Arizona Sen. John McCain and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich were each named by 6 percent of Americans in the poll.

Voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on six out of 10 key issues, including the top issue of the economy.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 45% now trust the GOP more to handle economic issues, while 39% trust Democrats more.
This is the first time in over two years of polling that the GOP has held the advantage on this issue.”

Smear her? Like Tina Fey on Saturday night when she repeated word for word exactly what Palin said and it became a classic comedy routine????
If truth is a smear then too bad for your top Publican candidate!
I’d characterize Palin as a Dem inside joke, that the cons just don’t get, which makes it all the richer!
Palin isn’t of concern, but that Voight sounds like he needs a trip to GITMO, talking about freeing america from Obama oppression and calling him a false prophet. Where does the RW find these haters?
“I’d characterize Palin as a Dem inside joke”
Yep and I remember a joke about the chances of a black man in the white house.
You better be very afraid. boogie boogie
“Where does the RW find these haters”
There has to be a balance with the LW haters. Otherwise we’d all fall off the edge.
What is it with you CONs?
Attention deficit disorder?
There was plenty of coverage reporting Newtie’s speech Monday evening. It was his big tent speech and there was plenty of tape of him welcoming (the Big) Dick Cheney and Colin Powell into a unified party.
The story, two days later, is how Newtie shanghaied the keynote address from the Moose-Dresser.
You CONs trying to blame it on “libruhls” is a joke.

Wonder why obama hasn’t released his college records?
Sarah’s next stop is the reality shows, I’m thinking “I’m a celebrity, get me outta here”, or some survivalist show, maybe survivor.
How’s her book selling anyway, or has it been writter yet?
What Obama doesn’t want you to see:
1. Occidental College records — Not released…
2. Columbia College records — Not released…
3. Columbia Thesis paper — “Not available”…
4. Harvard College records — Not released…
5. Selective Service Registration — Not released…

“SolDevVB” –
Perhaps you should check out Jack Cashill’s web site. Jack has a tidy little cottage industry going (you can buy his book!) in which he claims his extensive analysis of Barack Obama’s college and law school writings “reveal” (wait for it) “Dreams of My Father” was ghost-written by Bill Ayers!
Forget for a moment Jack is certifiably insane with his intellectual wing-nuttiness. (He blames Kathleen Sebelius for the Tiller assassination.)
But unless Jack is lying, there’s plenty of evidence of President Obama’s collegiate work.
But, knowing Jack as well as I do (we used to do talk radio together), that’s a pretty big “unless.”
The story, two days later, is how Newtie shanghaied the keynote address from the Moose-Dresser.
That’s great story, MH. This is like the paparazzi blaiming Paris Hilton for distracting them from real newsworthy items.
Guess Obama’s just too modest.
“Obama was raised, mostly in Hawaii, by his late mother and grandparents. He graduated from Columbia University in New York and received his law degree, graduating magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School. He became the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review”
Palin graduated magna cum alot.

Sarah Palin is only popular with her ‘own kind’ in her ‘own party’ so is she really a threat to the liberals?
As for the liberal biased media – I remember when the media was covering those patriotic days of George W. Bush after 9/11. Are you talking about THAT liberal biased media?
BTW – the media goes to where the circus freak shows is performing, so naturally they will be focued on Palins’ reaction to Newt Gingrich. Both of these clowns live for the circus!
After Obama owns this economy and it’s unemployment rate, you can throw a dart to a wall of GOP names and find a sure winner in 2012.
But please, just keep on borrowing and spending…..
Obama will be gone in 2012.
“But please, just keep on borrowing and spending…..”
BUT! The Conservatives had no problem when George W Bush was “borrowing and spending.” In fact, many conservatives, including Dick Cheney stated emphatically that “deficits don’t matter, Ronald Reagan proved that.”
to inform the public about policy differences in order to give the American people a clear choice for their future
American way that is the problem I am having with the party, there is no policy differences from the right.
None what so ever, simply being the party of No and yes that is the only alterative that is being presented by the GOP. No logical alterative or sounded reasoning given, no indication that the stance is even based on the current situations. Just tired old me-me’s and those could have been arrived at by simply reading opinions given twenty five years ago. Add to that the same attitude that has been true for both parties.
“You the general public are too stupid to know when we lie to you!”.
That it is impossible that you would ever check to see if it is the truth, reality or the facts.
Playing the scenario of the book “1984” , we have always been at war with the South and the East has always been our ally. That is until it is next week than it is the reverse. Only it is not limited to one subject or another it is a public policy for dealing with the American public.
Both parties are doing the same thing but I do mainly pay attention to that which is done within my own party. It can only stop when we stop letting their opinion of the people be the truth. We can either be the way they see us and buy out and out lies and half truths or we can insist that we want only truth and reality.

Hats off to GMC70. It ain’t easy to get “slick” and “Palin” in the same sentence without a syntax war breakin’ out. Or satire.
lol
Still thinkin’ about Sarah Palin being described as slick.
That ain’t the first adjective that would come to my mind, you know. The first adjective that would come to anybody with a fair mind would be “vacuous” or some synonym, surely. Blonde. Ditzy. Airheaded. “In over her head.” Overachiever. Over smiler. Something like that, yeah.
Slick, lol.
“It ain’t easy to get “slick” and “Palin” in the same sentence without a syntax war breakin’ out. Or satire.”
Or porn.
I have GOT to get a life, lol.
I hear ya Writerdog.
Not so sure I have a party to be truthful with me.
I’m looking for something else. Something that is not there – yet.
Much of this discussion on the disorganized faulty republicans reflects the joking on the left. But for any party to be asking itself questions, examining it’s leaders, and having disagreement within – is a healthy sign to me.
Americans want their needs met overnight. Sometimes the best solutions take time to mature.
From the linked article in the header ( DO read it)
“Palin bears considerable responsibility for what transpired. She was initially announced by the host committees as the keynoter for the evening, only to have her staff declare that the committees’ announcement was premature. Her initial handling of the dinner invitation left party leaders and GOP operatives with the impression that, however popular she may be with the conservative base, she wasn’t particularly reliable as a party leader.
In frustration, party officials then turned to former House speaker Newt Gingrich to deliver the keynote address. Palin would not be attending. That’s where things stood until the last few days. What transpired then was farce — an on-again, off-again, would-she-or-wouldn’t-she charade that ultimately resulted in her attending the dinner but not speaking. She became both a center of attention and a significant distraction. Party officials bear as much responsibility as Palin for that.”
Hoo HOO! She is an ambitious, conniving, egomaniac.
TOLD YA!
And the more she is fed? The bigger she will get.
Ya can’t escape it cons. And you’re too stupid most of you to want to. Palin 2012!
“
If Newtie doesn’t want to get upstaged by Palin at ‘publican events, he’s gonna have to grow boobs.
