A suppressed EPA study says old U.N. data ignore the decline in global temperatures and other inconvenient truths. Was the report kept under wraps to influence the vote on the cap-and-trade bill?
This was supposed to be the most transparent administration ever. Yet as the House of Representatives prepared to vote on the Waxman-Markey bill, the largest tax increase in U.S. history on 100% of Americans, an attempt was made to suppress a study shredding supporters’ arguments.
On Friday, the day of the vote, the Competitive Enterprise Institute said it was releasing “an internal study on climate science which was suppressed by the Environmental Protection Agency.”
In the release, the institute’s Richard Morrison said “internal EPA e-mail messages, released by CEI earlier in the week, indicate that the report was kept under wraps and its author silenced because of pressure to support the administration’s agenda of regulating carbon dioxide.”
Reading the report, available on the CEI Web site, we find this “endangerment analysis” contains such interesting items as: “Given the downward trend in temperatures since 1998 (which some think will continue until at least 2030), there is no particular reason to rush into decisions based on a scientific hypothesis that does not appear to explain most of the available data.”
What the report says is that the EPA, by adopting the United Nations’ 2007 “Fourth Assessment” report, is relying on outdated research by its Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The research, it says, is “at best three years out of date in a rapidly changing field” and ignores the latest scientific findings.
Besides noting the decline in temperatures as CO2 levels have increased, the draft report says the “consensus” on storm frequency and intensity is now “much more neutral.”
Then there’s one of Al Gore’s grim fairy tales — the melting of the Greenland ice sheet and glaciers the size of Tennessee roaming the North Atlantic. “The idea that warming temperatures will cause Greenland to rapidly shed its ice has been greatly diminished by new results indicating little evidence for operations of such processes,” the report says.
Little evidence? Outdated U.N. research? No reason to rush? This is not what the Obama administration and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were telling us when they were rushing to force a Friday vote on Waxman-Markey. We were given the impression that unless we passed this cap-and-tax fiasco, polar bears would be extinct by the Fourth of July.
We have noted frequently the significance of solar activity on earth’s climate and history. This EPA draft report not only confirms our reporting but the brazen incompetence of those “experts” that have been prophesying planetary apocalypse.
“A new 2009 paper by Scafetta and West,” the report says, “suggests that the IPCC used faulty solar data in dismissing the direct effect of solar variability on global temperatures. Their report suggests that solar variability could account for up to 68% of the increase in Earth’s global temperatures.”
The report was the product of Alan Carlin, senior operations research analyst at the EPA’s National Center for Environmental Economics (NCEE). He’s been with the EPA for 38 years but now has been taken off all climate-related work. He is convinced that actual climate observations do not match climate change theories and that only the politics, not the science, has been settled.
Thomas Fuller, environmental policy blogger with the San Francisco Examiner, wrote Thursday in a story developed in conjunction with Anthony Watts’ Web site wattsupwiththat.com: “A source inside the Environmental Protection Agency confirmed many of the claims made by analyst Alan Carlin, the economist/physicist who yesterday went public with accusations that science was being ignored in evaluating the danger of CO2.”
All this is particularly interesting because of the charges by Al Gore, NASA’s James Hansen and others that the Bush administration and energy companies actively suppressed the truth about climate change.
One of the e-mails unearthed by CEI was dated March 12, from Al McGartland, office director at NCEE, forbidding Carlin from speaking to anyone outside NCEE on endangerment issues such as those in his suppressed report.
Carlin replied on March 16, requesting that his study be forwarded to EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation, which directs EPA’s climate change program. Carlin points out the peer-reviewed references in his study and points out that the new studies “explain much of the observational data that have been collected which cannot be explained by the IPCC models.”
For saying the climate change emperors had no clothes, Carlin was told March 17: “The administrator and the administration have decided to move forward on endangerment, and your comments do not help the legal or policy case for this decision. . . . I can only see one impact of your comments given where we are in the process, and that would be a very negative impact on our office.”
In other words, the administration and Congress had their collective minds made up and didn’t want to be confused with the facts. They certainly didn’t want any inconvenient truths coming out of their own Environmental Protection Agency, the one that wants to regulate everything from your lawn mower to bovine emissions and which says the product of your respiration and ours, carbon dioxide, is a dangerous pollutant and not the basis for all life on earth.
The problem the warm-mongers have is they now are in a position of telling the American people, who are you going to believe — us or your own lying eyes? Forget the snow in Malibu, the record cold winters. Forget that temperatures have dropped for a decade.
In April, President Obama declared that “the days of science taking a back seat to ideology are over.” Apparently not, for as he spoke those very words his administration was suppressing science to advance a very pernicious ideology.

Even Michelle’s ‘fashion sense’ well soon be a liability. She visited Westminster Abby in a horrid outfit. She was dressed in an outfit that could only have been bought at the Easter Bunny’s yard sell.

“In March 1992, CEI’s founder Fred Smith said of global warming: “Most of the indications right now are it looks pretty good. Warmer winters, warmer nights, no effects during the day because of clouding, sounds to me like we’re moving to a more benign planet, more rain, richer, easier productivity to agriculture.”

Well a draft of this “suppressed” document has been released and we can now all read this allegedly devastating critique of the EPA science. Let’s take a look…”

…all dependent on fossil fuels for their wealth.
But they wouldn’t lie, would they?
Anyone believing these greenhouse gas restrictions are about stopping the oceans’ rise or lowering man-made co2 should watch closely the lobbying on this climate change bill.
You’ll see that it’s more about enriching the companies with the best political connections, especially cap and trade scamming companies like the GORACLE has large stock in.
If the Warmer bill passes, look for energy companies to play the cap and trade game farce while the consumer will get stuck with increasingly higher utility bills that will spiral prices upwards at record breaking rates.
What’s ironic and will be ‘poetic justice’ is states like California that depend heavily on agriculture and have all sorts of energy supply problems will take it in the ’shorts’ first. Waxman may well deliver California as a sacrificial lamb to the alter of blind greenness.

Fed Documents Fuel Concerns About Expanding Central Bank’s Role
JUNE 27, 2009
WASHINGTON — Documents unearthed by congressional investigators reveal disagreements among senior Federal Reserve officials about how to handle Bank of America Corp.’s acquisition of Merrill Lynch, fueling concern on Capitol Hill over giving the central bank even more power to regulate the financial system.
The glimpse inside the regulatory machinery provided by emails, memorandums and handwritten notes show a Fed that wrestled with how tough it should be on Bank of America, one of the biggest U.S. banks. It also shows Fed officials questioning more broadly their response to the financial crisis months earlier.
In December, Bank of America approached top U.S. officials about abandoning a deal, forged in the heat of the crisis, to buy investment bank Merrill Lynch. In the end, the government arranged a $20 billion rescue package for the bank to cover growing losses at Merrill.

Oh He11 No, It’s Not a Problem When Government Forces a Company to -
1. Take $20 Billion in Taxpayers money even if they don’t want it or need it.
2. Buy another company. In this case, Bank of America was forced to continue their plans to buy Merrill Lynch.
3. Threatens to fire the CEO.
The Government does not have the right to take any of the 3 steps above. Yet the Government did all three and more!

I watched “Boner” reading from the bill on C-Span.You can find it on YouTube.
At one point he was trying to make fun of provisions to eliminate known carcinogens from building materials, and you could see he was embarrassed by what he was doing.
But have heart, he even managed to squeeze in an ACORN crack…

Police: TV pitchman Billy Mays found dead at home
Billy Mays, the burly, bearded television pitchman known for his boisterous hawking of products such as Orange Glo and OxiClean, has died. He was 50.
Allow four-to-six weeks for burial.
Gee, I sure do hate to interject some matters of importance into the daily contretemps……into matters of such magnitude as the size of the First Lady’s derriere (I mean, that’s REALLY important)…
I could do likewise by exulting about my own measurements. And if I were a narcissist, I would. I mean, I’d belch, “Jesus! Mary! Joseph! I’m not only ’statuesque’ or even ‘buxom.’ I’m not even what you’d call ‘voluptuous.’ ”
Hell no – this b–ch is massive-t-!!ed. And, oh, I just LOVE bein’ a grrrrrl.
But anyway, on to a more pressing matter……
‘Cause I’ve gone on record about mixing cruelty amidst tragedy – so I’m gonna spin that vinyl agin……..
In August of 2006, I was hospitalized for a near-catastrophic event. (I won’t elaborate here – but what the f— – you fine foke are intelligent enough to put two and, um, two together….)
Let us postulate here: Let us speculate that I didn’t survive on that sultry summer evening nearly three years ago.
Let us say that, after release one week later, some human rights dude and/or diva went on record (or to a right-to-life organization) and belched, “Everyone who ever said a mean thing to FilmFan, called her icky names, or date-raped her on 11/23/74 has blood on his/her hands today.”
Pardon my bluntness, what how in the hellola would that have gone over? Probably like a t–d in a punchbowl, I would imagine.
Four weeks ago today, I sat at this very computer and logged onto Kansas.com. Seconds later, a Kinko’s employee ran to my side, believing I was experiencing a heart attack. And in truth, that’s what grief does. It paralyzes one.
Within seconds, the hysterical accusations flew – from both sides. Some on one side failed to exude the necessary sensitivity (i.e., shutting the f–k up). Some on the other side accused me and everyone else who has said stupid things of outright murder. And I’m really angry at this.
Why? Because it’s not like I feel “nothing.” I was and remain repentant. Receiving forgiveness does not, in my adult-stage view, negate one’s actions. Dr. Tiller was certainly duty-bound to forgive. But he did. And for that I am humbly grateful.
But am I a “murderer?” Let me put it succinctly: You who would deem me as such are no better than those who equate aborting women with Molly Hatchett (the killer, not the rock group)……
Oops – typo! I meant to say, “Dr. Tiller was certainly NOT duty-bound to forgive….”
But anyway – my point is sound: Do I feel really, really awful in the wake of this despicable crime? You bet your frigging booty I do.
Do I equate myself and others with the “alleged” assassin? Not on your (right-to) life. Because if I did, I’d shove my head down the toilet after taking a nice, juicy, fetid dump. That’s how kindly I look upon this assassin and his murderous bretheren.
And the FBI will find them, mark my words. Scottie’s neighbors observed a rancid trail of comers and goers. They will check phone records; they will investigate S. Shannon and her Army of Gawd goons.
Equating me and many others with these cretinous savages is a vile offense. I’ve been really pi—- off for a while now – and I just had to “let it all out” – as the medical professionals say.
That is not to say I am not repentant. I am – and I will remain repentant. But it takes a really low-life scumbag to do what “the assassin” did here – and live with himself/herself afterwards. It takes the lowest of the low – something not even those menopausal harridans of Hays, Kansas in the 1970s could stoop to.
I’m not deeming them murderers today – any more than I’m condemning abortion patients.
‘Cause it ain’t “concern for the unborn” that’s driving Scottie’s bus – let us all be clear. Adding one whole half-inch to his one half of a half-inch – that’s what matters to him.
Anyway – I just had to vent my spleen today. I’m in a whole lot of pain. I don’t need the irrational cacaphony of zealots on either side muddying the already ugly waters.
Venting spleens – with fava beans and a nice Chianti.
Chas, you are the one that is “dumb as a box of rocks”.
If you can read, which most Pastors can, proving you aren’t one, I said, “I don’t for a second believe you are a Lutheran Pastor…..no but instead you hold a matchbook cover ordination probably”.
You are the one listing the Lutheran Churches, inferring some association. I know they wouldn’t have you.
And who ask you, Chimpbrain?
Box, it’s a free country… believe whatever you want… I know the truth of the matter… But if you xchoose not to believe it, then tough siht!! That still makes you a loser…. Climb down off your high horse…. Take a dip into reality for a change

If thats what you believe, with no ingormation but your own stupidity, the you are — ONCE AGAIN — AS USUAL — VERY WRONG!!!
YOU ARE WRONG SO NUCH, IT’D HARD TO BELIEVE YOU EVEN TRY!! lol
Hey Chas, look for a little light on your keyboard lighted up….it means the ‘Cap Lock’ is on. Typing with it on makes you look like a dunce….oh, never mind you do anyway.

Another example of the tenuous “science” that the AGW alarmist rhetoric is based upon and for which the OBAMA would like to see massive taxes placed on carbon producing businesses.

An Australian look at USHCN: 20th century trend is largely if not entirely an artefact arising from the “corrections”
28 06 2009
From environmentalist Jennifer Marohasy’s blog in Australia, please pay her a visit here – Anthony
There has been criticism of the potential for official weather stations in the USA to record artificially high temperatures because of the changing environments in which they exist, for example, new asphalt, new building or new air conditioning outlets. Meteorologist, Anthony Watts, has documented evidence of the problem and Canadian academic, Ross McKitrick, has attempted to calculate just how artificially elevated temperatures might be as a consequence.
A reader of this blog, Michael Hammer, recently studied the official data from the US official weather stations and in particular how it is adjusted after it has been collected. Mr Hammer concludes that the temperature rise profile claimed by the US government is largely if not entirely an artefact of the adjustments applied after the raw data is collected from the weather stations…
Clearly the shape of this graph bears no similarity at all to the graph shown in Figure 4. The graph does not even remotely correlate to the shape of the CO2 versus time graph. The warming was greatest in the 1930’s before CO2 started to rise rapidly. The rate of rise in 1920, the early 1930’s and the early 1950’s is significantly greater than anything in the last 30 years. Despite the rapid rise in CO2 since 1960, the 1970’s to early 1980’s was the time of the global cooling scare and looking at the graph in Figure 5 one can see why (almost 2F cooling over 50 years).
A linear least squares trend line, created using the Excel trend line function (Red trace) shows a small temperature rise of 0.09C per century which is far less than the rise claimed by AGW supporters and clearly of no concern. However, the data shown in figure 5 bears little if any resemblance to a linear function. One can always fit a linear trend line to any data but that does not mean the fitted line has any significance. For example, if instead I fit a second order trend line (a parabolic) the result is extremely different. That suggests a temperature peak around 1950 with an underlying cooling trend since. Which trend line is the more significant one? If there was really a strong underlying linear rise over the time period it should have shown up in the 2nd order trend line as well. This suggests that it is questionable whether any relevant underlying trend can be determined from the data.
It would appear that the temperature rise profile claimed by the adjusted data is largely if not entirely an artefact arising from the adjustments applied (as shown in Figure 3), not from the experimental data record. In fact, the raw data does not in any way support the AGW theory.
Based on this data, the US temperature data does not correlate with carbon dioxide levels. The warming over the last 3 decades is completely unremarkable and if present at all is significantly less than occurred in the 1930’s. It is questionable whether any long term temperature rise over the 20th century can be inferred from the data but if there is any it is far less than claimed by the AGW proponents.

I haven’t made up my mind either way on GlobWarming, so what you post may be correct.
However, how does that square with glacier loss and satellite measurements?
Well Capn, I know that satellite measurements of the troposphere show far less warming and some will argue cooling. As far as glacier retreat, I don’t know. In some places however, they are growing, and climate change is never evenly distributed.
I just think that there is ample reason to doubt the AGW alarmists and no pressing need to take drastic measures that will effect “the economy, stupid”.
http://science.nasa.gov/newhome/headlines/essd06oct97_1.htm
A link re: Satellite data.
I was surprised to see a graph the other day that showed a strong correlation between rising CO2 and temperature since 1940 . . . that’s not the surprising part.
If you look at that graph back to 1000, it showed temperature rising WITH NO RISE in CO2.
I think the strongest argument I’ve heard against the Global Warming threat is that nobody knows what caused the ice ages and the warming that occured in the past.
If you can’t explain the past, you can’t predict the future.
Box and JJ–
Chas is a pastor. This is not in question.
I’ve talked to him on several occasions, so has BlueJay, so has CF.
He is an ordained and practicing pastor.
On that point, there is no dispute.
CapnAmerica,
Re past ice ages and warming, the main theory is Milankovitch cycles plus positive feedbacks.
See Faq 6.1, and Chapter 6 for more details.
http://www.ipcc.ch/ipccreports/ar4-wg1.htm
The faq’s also give overviews on some other basic points.
But there are a lot of scientists who think that the Milankovitch cycle (of Earth tilt and distance from the sun) is too small an effect to trigger Global glaciation or warming.
Ditto for sunspots.
Also, given the glacial maximums at which one time the Snowball Earth theory was supposed to have happened, Earth would be a very high albedo and so it could never warm up again.
But it did warm up again.
I’m not saying that Global Warming is bunk, like the deniers do, but I am saying that the science is not 100 percent clear on this either.
Also, given that the last Ice Age was 12,000 years ago, and we’re 11,000 years into this interglacial period, it might not be a bad thing that we’re heating up the globe with CO2.
It’s better than another Ice Age in a thousand years.
outlander,
Why are you posting an old satellite data link from 1997?
Satellite data shows a similar trend to ground-based data sets. See the comparison graphs
http://tamino.wordpress.com/2008/03/02/whats-up-with-that/
The U.S. (lower 48 states) is only about 2 percent of the total global area. You cannot conclude anything about “global” conditions by looking at only 2% of the area.
Suffice it to say that the most knowlegable scientists seem to be lining up on the side of the Global Warming threat, and that in itself should be very troubling to people.
Meanwhile the people against are all petroleum engineers or status quo business people who believe they won’t profit from green energy.

dailykos Cosmos?
Jeesh. Capn, folks like Cosmos, who link “dailykos” on climate science matters yet criticize others freely for their sources are hardly convincing, are they?
Obama a loser not a winner if the Green scam passes in Congress.

cosmos uses the highly inaccurate Milankovitch cycles to explain the past ice ages which occur at approximately 100,000 years according to the theory.
What the Milankovitch cycles really are is an illusion created by averaging together cycles lasting 80 and 120 thousand years. Mathematicians then averaged the cycles to make “convenient” numbers.
However, if one looks at the ice core record and other ways of tracing climate, the Milankovitch cycle has been wrong each of the past eight (8) cycles or about 800,000 years. Being wrong 8 for 8 is not a good record to be considered a sound theory.
If averaging sounds familiar (Milankovitch cycles), it is the same flawed method that the IPCC computer climate models use to ‘predict’ (cough) man-made co2-fueled climate.
There are events that we are absolutely certain that caused climate change. In 1783, the Iceland volcanic fissures exploding releasing massive amounts of particulates and gases (mainly sulfur dioxide) into the atmosphere. This releases was responsible for thousands of deaths, famine in Africa; all due to sudden decrease in temperature on a global scale.
The “Warmers” hate to talk about it, because it destroys their theory than the release of the puny amounts of co2 cannot compete with mother nature’s quantity of same.
Averaging temperatures is a juxtaposition of science. It is neither compliant with the laws of thermodynamics, but also flies in the face of science by correlation when co2 is linked with it.
Everyone knows that inconvenient measurements of temperature and co2 were thrown out of the database for the IPCC, politically driven non-science quest.
It’s why that IPCC needs computer climate models to cook their data, because it defies the law of physics.

E. G. Beck’s ridiculous CO2 claims are ridiculous.
Reg..did you expect any different? so many people here have proven than when they can’t discuss like adults, they resort to personal attacks.
It is really quite juvenile, isn’t it?
Heehee, very amusing story on Mr Watts in the Daily Kos…
Well Cosmos, at least Watts has integrity and is a scientist, as contrasted to the lib flame thrower on your esteemed climate science source, the dailykos. In fact, he sounds a bit like you. And probably less qualified.
Just pointing out your hypocrisy Nanook. Enough said.
Ok, here comes Cosmos with a slam on Watts that he found on one of his AGW alarmist sites. 5-4-3-2-1

False
I don’t deny evolution, I just think it is as straight forward as people think.
If it was straight forward and clear, then theories on origin of species and classification wouldn’t change every few years like it does. It is not a settled science, just like Climatology – there is much to learn that we do not know.

Regular claims that the release of the puny amounts of co2 cannot compete with mother nature’s quantity of same.
100 lbs of gasoline in your car is converted to 300 lbs of CO2 (because it is mixed with O2). Multiply that times all the cars on the road today.
Whatever it is, it ain’t puny.
BTW, sulphur dioxide from volcanoes would lead to cooler temps. That has nothing to do with CO2 however.
In fact, some slightly mad climate scientists have speculated that we could reverse temporarilly the effects of CO2 warming by deliberately pumping massive amounts of SO2 into the atmosphere.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not fond of acid rain which is exactly what SO2 (sulfur dioxide) would cause and has caused.
Besides, if you are all for SO2 being released, you should get behind your friendly coal plant and allow them to release SO2 in massive amounts into the air, so there can be cooling or not.

As noted, this was quite a while back, sometime (as I recall) between January 20, 1777 and January 20, 1781, during Thomas Jefferson’s presidency.

Absolutely a lie! BlowJ@b challenged to meet in a parking lot at the Dillions at Central and Rock Rd. at NOON! Sounds like a bad Spaghetti Western movie doesn’t it? Absolutely nothing was said about coffee or conversation. BlowJ@b said he was going to “set me straight”, according to his idea of how things should be.
I got tired of hearing it after the 3rd, 4th. 5th. 6th, etc time and said okay and went about my adult business.
He stands in the parking lot for 20 or 30 min. according to his own statement until he had to use the bathroom and went in Dillions and after even more time wondered off to waste the rest of his day.
I punked the punk. And laughted about it.
And, as they say, those “are the facts, just the facts”.
BlueJay is a goon.
Not a very mature or smart goon I might add.
