Yes, you’re right Nathaniel. I think David Letterman’s joke was tastless and he needed to apologize and he did – TWICE.

But if you want to talk about conservatives not making jokes about young women then let’s talk about the Miley Cyrus picture a few months ago. I saw several male Conservative Republicans on the OL blog high-fiving and laughing and describing Miley’s picture as ‘yum’. Wouldn’t that be the same thing that DAvid Letterman was doing – the disrespect and sexual exploitation of young women?

If it is terrible for Letterman to do (which I agree his joke was tasteless and inappropriate) then isn’t it also terrible for those Male Conservative Republicans on the OL blog to disprect and exploit Miley Cyrus – a 15yr old?

And let’s not even get started on the many jokes against women that John McCain reportedly has told in his political career. Where was Sarah Palin’s level of integrity when she agreed to run with McCain? Surely she was aware of McCain’s reported sense of humor.

I don’t buy it. You’re argument sounds alot like men or young men are just dogs waiting to tag anything at anytime that moves with no thoughts to the consequences.
All I can call on is personal experience in my first relationship of that nature as a late teen. Birth control was my responsibility. It’s a heck of a lot easier for a young man to obtain contraception than a young girl.
The Palin girl certainly shares in the blame because she parctipated in unprotected sex. But “being careful” falls as much on the young man as woman. While he didn’t have to carry the baby, doesn’t have to deal with 99% of the diaper changes, middle of the night feedings, etc., he is now financially indebted for the next 18 years of his young life. I think I’ve read somewhere that the Palin daughter has said they did use condoms but “not everytime”…only takes once as they both learned.
