The follow-up to President Obama’s speech last week in Cairo needs to be led by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, wrote columnist and best-selling author Thomas Friedman. But rather than focusing on the Israeli and Palestinian issue, Friedman said, Clinton needs to “spearhead a sustained effort — along with the U.N., the European Union and Iraq’s neighbors — to resolve the lingering disputes between Iraqi factions before we complete our withdrawal. (We’ll be out of Iraq’s cities by June 30 and the whole country by the close of 2011.) Why? Because if Iraq unravels as we draw down, the Obama team will be blamed, and it will be a huge mess. By contrast, if a decent and stable political order can take hold in Iraq, it could have an extremely positive impact on the future of the Arab world and on America’s reputation.”

Clinton needs to focus on Iraq.
Funny I used to say the same thing about Bush and Afghanistan.
Yes. The liberals really, really, really wanted for the the unraveling to happen on Bush’s watch. Which is the only reason why they pushed for withdraw so aggressively and opposed the “surge”.
Where are the calls for a precipitous withdraw now?
crickets…crickets
I wouldn’t want to be Secretary of State, especially after the ‘World Apology Tour’ by O’Bama.
“RFL” whines –
“Where are the calls for a precipitous withdraw now?”
Quick, Henry! The Flit!
Your buggy little post ignores those of us “libruhls” who didn’t think we should go to Iraq, didn’t think we were doing any good being there, and advocate leaving now.
It’s the moderates who are keeping American troops there for a measured pull-out.
I don’t necessarily approve, but I can live with not always getting my way.
Some of you CONs ought to consider that, rather than wallowing in your imagined moral superiority.
Sure thing MH. Code Pink and Moveon.org represents the moderate wing of the Democratic party. Hardly a peep out of these people insisting on a quick exit from Iraq since sometime before the past November.
Not even a front page ad in the New York Times all but calling General Petraeus a Traitor? Oh my, guess things are different now aren’t they.
I wonder what changed?

In the photo, is Hillary wearing a Berka?
The editors are either stupid or cannot bring themselves to be critical of Obama.
Last I heard the Secretary of State works for, and follows the direction of the President.

That’s Hillary?
I thought it was an old Bulgarian woman.
Yes Hillary is wearing a Berka. This is the fashionable model and is made out of kevlar for whenever Hillary has to run from the airplane under machine gun or mortar fire.

Obama’s mother is dead though, right?
Shouldn’t her face be covered?
I mean to protect her from shrapnel?
Obama will realize bush’s dream of a Democratic Mid-East.

No Walker, we know you would never man up.
We also know you cannot support your post.
Our poking fun is not at other posters here. And they certainly are not posted out of anger.
Have a nice day. ;-)

Wasn’t that W’s plan?
W just couldn’t succeed at any plan. If Clinton had declared war I could’ve backed it, because Clinton would’ve had a better outcome. Bush, the Wrong Man at the wrong time, WPE.
