O’Reilly tries to backpedal on Tiller

oreillytillerOn Monday, talk show host Bill O’Reilly defended the vitriolic rhetoric he used frequently regarding Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller. “No backpedaling here,” he said. “Everything we said about Tiller was true.” But on Tuesday, O’Reilly claimed that his many references to “Tiller the baby killer” were merely reporting what pro-life groups were calling Tiller. Not true. On at least five broadcasts in the past three months, O’Reilly referred to Tiller as “the baby killer,” and he wasn’t reporting what others were saying. On one of those programs, he also claimed that former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is so pro-abortion that she “wants the babies done for.”

Public doesn’t want Gitmo closed

CUBA-US-ATTACKS-ENDURING FREEDOM-AFGHANISTAN DETAINEESWhen it comes to closing the Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba, the public is siding with former Vice President Dick Cheney over President Obama. By a more than 2-1 majority, Americans don’t want Gitmo closed, and by more than 3-1, they oppose moving some of the accused terrorists to U.S. prisons in their own states, according to a USA Today/Gallup survey. By 40 percent to 18 percent, the public also believes that Gitmo has strengthened national security, as Cheney contends, rather than weakened it by hurting the United States’ standing around the world and serving as a recruitment tool for terrorists, as Obama argues.

Inflammatory rhetoric isn’t helpful, Parkinson said

abortionprotest7Gov. Mark Parkinson joined calls for less vitriolic rhetoric in the abortion debate. “People that are pro-life are not terrorists, and people who are pro-choice are not baby killers,” Parkinson said. “They are people that have a different view on a very controversial issue.” He said that the inflammatory rhetoric “is not helpful.”

Positive about Wichita

Good for ROK ICT for putting out a positive video about life in Wichita in response to the murder of Wichita abortion provider George Tiller. The arts group was concerned about a possible negative perception about Wichita based on the murder. So it produced a video, which is posted on its Web site and YouTube, in which various young musicians and artists speak about how great it is to live in Wichita and be part of the arts community here. They talk about how much there is to do in Wichita, the many friendships they’ve formed and how friendly the people are.

It’s official: Pringles are potato chips

pringlesPringles are officially potato chips, at least in England. Britain’s Supreme Court of Judicature made that ruling, which was bad news for Pringles maker Procter & Gamble, because it means it owes $160 million in taxes. In Britain, most food is exempt from value-added taxes, but potato chips and “similar products” are taxable. Procter & Gamble argued that Pringles weren’t potato chips but were “savory snacks.”
