“I think both of them are Republicans,” Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, said when asked by The Eagle editorial board who better represents the GOP, former Secretary of State Colin Powell or talk-show host Rush Limbaugh. Tiahrt said both men have roles in the party and that the internal debate about the future of the GOP is healthy. “I think it is a good debate to have,” he said.

What a weenie.
Tiahrt already had to get on his knees and apologize to Rush once, he doesn’t want to make the mistake of insulting his leader again.
Who is sillier?
The Repubic Party or Monty Python?

Unfortunatly the Con mind set is not funny or silly. It is cold hearted and mean spririted.
Swim fast or die, but be pro-life unless you are already born then you are cannon fodder.
People are put on this earth to be exploited says the Con. And Jesus would torture you if he thought it would further the church/society.
One thing that I’ve learned throughout my years is that the taxonomy of a party can be difficult to put into classification.
Even harder is to classify voters. Those on the extreme ends of the political spectrum are easy to classify.
Those in the middle remain problematic for politicians running for office to court in elections.
Tiahrt said both men have roles in the party and that the internal debate about the future of the GOP is healthy. “I think it is a good debate to have,” he said.

Well said there Todd. The media wants to put a crow bar in the crack they see in party and start prying. But the crack is an expansion joint.
Wow, “professional” journalism at it’s best….playing “who would you do” with politicians and calling it “news”.
Regular,
That is why I believe that our representative democracy has been misinterpreted and not used correctly.
We elect people who run on a platform and try to appeal to certain types of voters in this country. The problem that has plagued me for years is that I always thought that you elect someone and then they do what the people tell them to do in all situations.
Those who don’t care to have a voice are left out in the cold, but will hopefully be engaged to fight the next time for something else on the docket.
The people should be telling the representative what to do and not the other way around. Just some food for thought.
DFB said it best. This is created news. It is part of the democrat’s offensive agenda – to keep up the charade of a talk radio host as the republican party leader.
Anything to discredit the opposition and portray them as less than human, and certainly not American (like only the democrats can be).
The press leans left and is easily manipulated by the democrats to continue the game.
People like preordained1 (who sounds remarkably like Chas) just stereotype based upon the generated garbage by the left. No facts, no references, no material – just insults. Not an attack on preordained1 on my part. But it illustrates the problem republicans have with their image, lack of an aggressive advertising campaign, and their continued loss of an internal guidance system.
Aust Econ – those are just some of the reasons, the only way to get politicians of any stripe’s attn in DC is to utilize Art 5 and push for a state petitioned Constitutional Convention. Neither party is immune to the only issues that might be able to garner the 38 states needed to ratify any amendments to it and they know it. The only issues that might garner 38 states approval (probably many, many more than 38 states!) are congressional term limits, fed judge term limits, line item veto and fed balanced budget. All of which, are obviously stakes in the heart of the nosferatu’esque politicians that suck the life out of this country.
“The media wants to put a crow bar in the crack they see in party and start prying. ”
Uh no, it’s Rush’s pry bar there outie.
I almost feel sorry for you cons. Your whole party has to kiss the ring AND the arse of a drug addicted ego maniac.

I don’t like O’Bama.
BlueJay,
Only in the eyes of the mainstream media. I contend that very few Americans actually believe the garbage that comes out of the idiot box.
“The media wants to put a crow bar in the crack they see in party and start prying.”
It’s the fault of the press because they actually “report” what is said.
It can’t possibly be the people within the party who want to judge whether or not someone meets their qualifications for being a member. Can’t be that there isn’t an agreement of what the party does stand for. And, of course, it isn’t that the party has no ideas, no solutions, no plans, no leaders they can agree on (and with). If they had any ideas the press probably wouldn’t report those anyway. All the Republican Party problems are the fault of the media!
/sarcasm
Pass the popcorn.
BlueJay is a devoted listener to Rush Limbaugh.

Yup. AND Sean Hannity AND Mark Levin.
That’s how I know what note the con choir is gonna sing before they sing it.

GET OFF THE BLOG YA BIG JERK!!!
“The media wants to put a crow bar in the crack they see in party and start prying. ”
I’m all for the media looking. It would be nice if the media looked both ways before reporting. And contrary to what some have posted – this isn’t news that happened and a reporter stumbled upon it.
This is news invented BY the media. Filler.
Bush was the greatest thing to ever happen to the Democratic party. He ran as a Republican and acted just like a Democrat. Now the left can claim that the rights ideas are bad and the evidence is in front of us.
Quigley was right. Both parties should act almost identical. That way when one party messes up, they can “throw the rascals out” without changing policy all that much. This is exactly what has happened.
Tee-hart is done – stick a fork in him.
The media doesn’t need a crowbar, when rush is a jack hammer.
What rush is saying, is the GOP already has a blackface on the party and no longer needs Powell.
the GOP already has a blackface on the party and no longer needs Powell.

Racist.
Am I going to have to start listening to Rush Limbo so I can decide whether what liberals are posting about “what Rush is saying” is true?
Rush is probably laughing all the way to the bank!
Rush uses the FIFO system.

Well said there Todd. The media wants to put a crow bar in the crack they see in party and start prying. But the crack is an expansion joint
–
Expansion joint? Is that why there are only 22% of people even willing to be called Republicans now?
Wow – 22% will get you where???
You must have a different definition of expansion than the rest of the educated world.
Just let Rush, Newt and Cheney keep talking. Between these three – that 22% may even dwindle lower. Rush and Newt are ticking off Hispanics and women. Cheney is ticking off everybody else.
But do let us know how that expansion joint is working – okay?
Rush is making money off of being a poster child for an ideology, if there was as much money in being a poster child for liberalism he would be. If with the turn there will be wealth to be had we would see Limbaugh suddenly having a revelation and becoming a staunch liberal harpy.
Where does totoinks get the 22 percent figure?
I think he’s been drinking the koolaid at liberal blog sites too much.
Liberals have lives. Conservatives have Rush.
toto – you might make sure you don’t grab one point from one poll in time and try to make it ubiquitous. Dems are losing just as many admitted Dems as Reps are losing Reps…of course that will never get reported, just the snapshot that fits the argument, but don’t my word for it..

“Rush is making money off of being a poster child for an ideology”
Liberals make him out to be. Rush is an entertainer. A radio talk show host. He remained as such even up to the enthrownment of O’bama and the mistake of the RNC to have Rush as the lead speaker.
But believing he is more than that is a figment of your imagination and is exactly what Rush wants.
totoinks: What is the purpose of an expansion joint?
WSClark – I’ve posed this question before…in terms of popularity, who do libs have besides Obama? They keep harping on about how weak the GOP party is…while they’ve got just one lib in the entire nation with any national popularity. BO will burn the landscape for any hopes Hillary might’ve had, and not a single other Dem Pres hopeful is even relevant..actually they’re all butts of jokes now. Anyone with any name recognition on the Dem side nationally is loaded with baggage. I’m just sayin’…besides BO, who else is on your bench? Kobe, MJ, LeBron, Shaq…they’ve all proven one thing, you can win some games, but you can’t rack up titles without a strong team.

Yeah, and guess where all of those disinfranchised voters are going?
They’re becoming Independent.
Both parties….be very afraid!
Neither party can elect a candidate without the help of….GASP!…Independents.
I’m pretty sure that Rush is only on air for entertainment purposes. I pity anyone who actually thinks he is a credible source for anything. He is just “getting his” like any other business owner would.
Just as a general rule of thumb human beings like freedom and less rules on their lives. Not really an ideology, just a natural way to feel.
People want to be left alone to do whatever, just as long as they aren’t bothering anyone else.
The hard core left and hard core right will remain.
Kicking and screaming, the rest of us are somewhere in between.
I think it took just a few p*ssed off republicans and most of the p*ssed off independents to put Obama in office. He will have to rule carefully to satisfy a group which is very picky in their vote.
The pendulum usually sways back and forth..
“They keep harping on about how weak the GOP party is…while they’ve got just one lib in the entire nation with any national popularity.”
It’s not the Libs that are harping on the GOP, yada, yada – it is the media, looking for a story.
But the Libs do have many players on the bench that can fill the grinder role (hockey term) and they will eventually take Obama’s place.
The party belongs to Barack for the next eight years – but new leaders will emerge in time.
Remember, no one knew what an Obama was until the 2004 Dem convention.
“Remember, no one knew what an Obama was until the 2004 Dem convention.”
Ditto can apply to the republicans. No reason it cannot.
WSC/XXX – I agree, voters are running from BOTH parties because they’re sick of the silly political partisan games, ie, self first, then party, then campaign contributors, then family, then college buddies, then somewhere further down the line country.
As for the “grinders” on the Dem bench, can you name a few? Evan Bayh’s about the only name I can come up with that has shown some sense. Ed Rendel on outside shot? The GOP has Paul Ryan, Mark Sanford, Jindal, Hutchison, Pawlenty, Sununu, Huckabee, Romney (not a fan), Newt (not a fan), Demint, Gregg, even Palin still has some juice. The GOP doesn’t need a “leader” right now, they’ve got a lot of good role players, just lacking a goon enforcer (since we’re on hockey), but even then, Palin would do well to just play the role of lightning rod.
But couldn’t agree more, that if the Ind/Libertarians come up with a legitimate candidate…all bets are off for both parties. Would be VERY interesting to see an Ind in the WH and how appointments would go from there, or how congress would react.
As to people running from both parties, anyone can pick a point and time, but as you can see from the link, the polls shift weekly.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/15370/Party-Affiliation.aspx
“Ditto can apply to the republicans. No reason it cannot.”
True enough – if they can shake the Rush O’Hannity syndrome, they can make a comeback.
Not until – that approach, has alienated too many voters that no longer buy into fear-based politics.
“But couldn’t agree more, that if the Ind/Libertarians come up with a legitimate candidate…all bets are off for both parties.”
It’s a dream. A good one. But still a dream.
Someone needs to step forward and start a new party. All attempts thus far have been circumvented by the republicans. Anytime something new appears, they try to attach their name and baggage to it.
Many didn’t think much of Ron Paul. Although his beliefs are extreme conservative or liberatian – he is at least a member of the establishment in congress. He couldn’t get away with his extreme anymore than Obama will with his extreme. In fact, it would be harder as the die-hard blue/red teams will still be represented.
But talk about change. Only a dream.
“if they can shake the Rush O’Hannity syndrome”
They are just names. If not them, it would be someone else. Glenn Beck is the latest.
I don’t care which talk show hosts come forward on the radio or the TV, you libs will make mincemeat out of them.
Tell me you wouldn’t?
“American_Way” whimpers –
“…you libs will make mincemeat out of them.”
Funny how easy that is when we’re right.
Monkeyhawk you are itching for a fight.
The point is: no matter who comes forward and actually shows support for a party other than your own – they will not ever be right.
I don’t think it’s a matter of “shake[ing] the Rush O’Hannity syndrome”.
No one in opposition would ever meet democrats requirements. And dog gone it! Isn’t that the way it should be?
Unless some of you are serious about switching over, if the right media spokesperson appears, or the right candidate.
And THAT ain’t gonna happen.
Amway – agree Ron Paul has trouble with coming across as a loon..but more often than not…he’s right about what he talks about, he’s just not good at communicating it. I think he’d make a more interesting Treasury Sec in someone else’s administration…now THAT would be an interesting role for him.
“Unless some of you are serious about switching over, if the right media spokesperson appears, or the right candidate.”
Provide a centrist Republican candidate – pro-choice and pro-gay – that doesn’t kowtow to the RR, then we can talk – not until.
Ron Paul is an old man. No charisma. He is as far from being a dynamic speaker as you can get.(but I would favor him again)
Americans want noise. Someone with a blackberry in one hand. Someone cool.
Personally, I’d rather people speak like they did when they wrote the constitution. I can take leaders whom we decide upon only by the written word. Sometimes you have to read the words twice to grasp their importance.
No TV ads. No radio spots.
Nothing but the words of wisdom.
Terribly boring as a leader to most. But I don’t need excitement.
Problem is, “American_Way” –
It’s been long before I can remember when a CON was right.
Maybe Barry Goldwater (who wasn’t a “CON,” per se, but a true conservative.). Perhaps William F. Buckley on a good day.
Your current batch of CONs have basically been wrong about everything.
When have you been right about anything?
When’s the last time you had a genuine victory party over us “libruhls” on any issue, any circumstance, any crisis?
No, most of the time we get sniveling whimpers about how the “libruhl” press is against you and how the “libruhls” are oppressing you and marriage-equality will force you to marry a turtle, and you’re left with nothing else but name-calling and tantrum.
“DFB” admits –
“…Ron Paul has trouble with coming across as a loon..”
Y’think?
The “Duh Libs” and “Socialists” and “Comrade Obama” and “O’Bama” rhetoric isn’t going to cut it anymore.
If the Republicans want to be relevant, then they need to cut out the Newt O’Limbaugh stuff and get down to REASONABLE debate.
Face it – abortion will never be outlawed – sooner or later, gays will have equal rights.
The Right needs to drop those topics and get back to being civil.

“Why should the Right when the majority feels the same on those topics?”
How has that worked out for you folks, lately? Scored any victories? Yeah, you won by two percent in CA, but that will change in time.
Abortion? Why didn’t the GOP offer a law/amendment to outlaw abortion when they controlled the Congress and Presidency for six years?
Face it – the RR opposition to gay marriage is that they think it will be MANDATORY.
The lack of opposition to abortion by the right is because they feel that they might need a pro-choice position for their children and mistresses.
Ron Paul was shoved into the loon category with the help of Republicans and the Mainstream media. He would have upset the apple cart and ruined the facade of difference between the two parties.
Fact is, his ideas and the man himself are just too smart for 85% of Americans to understand. I blame parents for not teaching their children how to learn and leaving it to the state to decide what they should learn.
Gay Marriage has never been approved by voters. All “victories” have come in the courts or via legislation.
The majority of Americans now consider themselves “pro-life.”
Republicans not being in power doesn’t have anything to do with these issues.
Clark, I don’t think Obama will make it for 8 years.

Only if one of the far right wingers is successful in an assassination attempt.

I doubt that will happen.
I think Obama will be his own worst enemy. His ego is too large and his ideas too expensive and limiting to freedom.

Ford almost got it from a Leftist.
“The last assassination has been from a leftist.”
The last assassination ATTEMPT was from a loony right winger – Hinkley.
Just because he wasn’t successful does not discount his attempt.
Besides, I do not accept ANY attempt on my president’s life – right or left, left or right.
This is still America – presidential assassins are still despicable individuals, regardless of who is president.
I choose not to use labels – but you brought it up, Reggie.

Then WHAT is the answer?
Comprehensive sex education? Why is the RR opposed to that?

Gay Marriage has never been approved by voters. All “victories” have come in the courts or via legislation.
=================================================
Same sex marriage will be legal in Maine and Vermont in September because of laws passed via the legislative process. New Hampshire is very close to arriving at language that can be supported by both the Legislature and the Governor.
Same sex marriage became legal in Iowa due to a state Supreme Court ruling. An effort in the legislature to put the issue to a referendum in 2010 was defeated and the legislature, in effect, affirmed the decision of the state Supreme Court.
Change is coming…it will be incremental at first but eventually a tipping point will be reached and, eventually, most people will look back and wonder what all the fuss was about in the first place.
“It’s about the roll of the Government in the teaching of.”
So why did the BA fund “abstinence only” ed and why did the RR support that?

Well, Mr. KIA, try telling horny, hormone fueled teenagers not to have sex.
Hell, try telling near sixty year old SOB’s like me not to have sex.
It ain’t gonna work – lust and hormones trump common sense every time.
And I mean EVERY time.

“Keep the snake in the trousers to prevent baby showers”
===========================================
Nice.
ANTI’s Anti-Pregnacy Program:
I plan on taking my daughter out to the farm to help pull a couple of calves.
I will then turn to her after I’ve pulled the first one and say, “So, do you know what started this? If you want to have sex, this might happen to you. BTW, you’re pullin’ the next one.”
I think it will scar her mind for an appropriate length of time.
“Face it – the RR opposition to gay marriage is that they think it will be MANDATORY.”
WSClark, how can a smart guy like you be so blind?
It’s not an RR thing about gay marriage. President OBama, Hillary Clinton, and many many other democrats are against gay marriage (marriage is defined as that between a man and a woman).
It is exactly this type of misrepresentation that republicans need to overcome. They need to be vocal. They need to advertise.
Because on this particular issue, to say it’s all about RR’s is complete BS. 28 states have enacted laws defining marriage. 20 of them since 2000. These were not republican victories. These were voters across the board.
Not fighting you over the issue itself – just the label of RR, when I don’t think its fair.
This is almost too stupid for words – less than FOUR percent of the population is gay – why is the RR so WORRIED about such a small percentage of the people? Why can’t they just leave them alone?
Why does the RR insist on persecution and denial of rights?
What the Hell difference does it make to you?
Call it marriage – call it civil unions – call it going steady – hell, call it whatever you want – but get over your phobias and prejudices and let people be what they want to be.
Christ. Grow up up and focus on YOUR life and YOUR thoughts and actions and STOP judging others.
For Christ’s sake.
WSClark, I got email from a poster and they said to keep you from going ballistic, all I had to do is type one word: “motorcycle”.
Is that true?
And Clark, my post was not about the issue of gays and gay marriage.
Did you bother reading it?
If you bone dig: You will find out I have no problem with gay civil unions and complete equal rights as those married. Further, I suggested if that doesn’t work – take away any rights us married folks half, so we are all equal.
Now, please read my post. Anti-gay marriage is NOT an RR issue.
You either danced around what I posted, or chose to evade the issue.
Barack Obama supports marriage as that relationship between a man and woman.
half=have
“I think it will scar her mind for an appropriate length of time.”
Anti, as the father of two now adult daughters, I wouldn’t recommend it. “We” used a different approach.
Remind me after you get off work and I’ll share it with you. It worked very well for us, and both of them thank us for it now that they are married and in their late 20’s.
OF COURSE, TIAHERT PRETTY MUCH DOESN’T TAKE A STAND ON ANY ISSUE.
IS THAT BECAUSE HE ISN’T THAT SMART WITH EASILY LED FOLLOWERS.
