So they said

Lieutenant Governor“We think it’s way more important to bring jobs to Kansas in the year 2009 than to worry about what our own jobs will be in the year 2011.” — Gov. Mark Parkinson, referring to the choice he and Lt. Gov. Troy Findley have made not to run for their jobs next year

“It could be a GOP tsunami in 2010 in Kansas.” — Washburn University political scientist professor Bob Beatty, on the dearth of strong Democratic candidates

“There will be no cakewalks.” — Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh, a Republican running for governor, suggesting Democrats can’t be counted out in the gubernatorial and Senate races

Gov. Parkinson and Lt. Gov. Findley are like two alley cats prowling the Kansas Capital building. Most Kansans never heard of them but they are in positions to do great damage in the name of Kansas citizens.

Lets face it … they are temporary caretakers of the Governor’s office until they or the next chief executives are actually elected by the people of Kansas.

Even in this lopsided Republican state, the realities of John Carlin, Joan Finney and Kathleen Sebelius suggest that Cedar Crest is anything but a cakewalk. And the Dems have won the House before (during Joan Finney’s administration).

But backlash against Obama and Sebelius may very well make it a Republican year in Kansas (though only in Kansas).

    We’ll see.

I well imagine that the Democratic party managers will handle any Parkinson influence on the Governor’s with a ten foot pole. An endorsement from Parkinson may be a ‘death touch’ in a political run to the Governorship.

The current policy in Washington by the O’Bama administration is much like the Sebelius administration – there is no change. Both Sebelius and O’Bama are simply powdering the political butts without changing their diapers. The smell is masked, but the smell still lays close to the surface.

I suspect the entry of Brownback and Thornburgh in the Governor’s race will define the mood and outcome of the future Topeka office.

Unless the trend towards more federal govt authority of the last few decades is reversed….the role of Governor will be about as meaningful as STUCO President on a politician’s resume’.

It is something that amazes me, the Democrats can come up with a strong enough candidate to be Governor.
But for other offices they seem to have trouble coming up with a candidate with a D beside their name for a Kansas Dog catcher? It is almost a foregone conclusion that both the senate and Congress will be held by a Republican. Even though both could be taken by a strong and CENTRIST Democrat. Those seats have quite a load left in them from the Republicans that have held them.
