Senate race a proxy battle?

moran-tiahrt1The Swing State Project blog expressed puzzlement over the decision of former House Speaker Dennis Hastert to endorse Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, over Rep. Jerry Moran, R-Hays, for U.S. Senate next year. “Maybe Hastert sees this as a proxy battle over the GOP’s heart-and-soul,” concluded the blog.

Forget Hastert … he doesn’t vote in Kansas.

The correct answer is to vote for Congressman Jerry Moran because he best exemplifies Kansas ideals.

Todd Tiahart is from South Dakota where he dropped out of an engineering school to move to Missouri.

Jwink I disagree with your assessment of Tiahrt. He is always very open when contacted. Always in my experience gets back to his constituents who have problems. Had his office organize a very good tour of the congressional building as well as the senate when my family and I were in DC.

He will be my choice for senator. I have to admit that I haven’t met Moran or ever had a reason to deal with him. Seems they are both good men.

yeah ol todd is doing a heck of a job.

the only time i heard tod say something or take a stand in the media was this week.

“well i don’t want one of them terriosts walkin down a street in a town in the US do yeu ??

while i’m sure that statement wowed his trailer park fans the rest of us wondered how shutting down gitmo would lead to terriosts actually walking down the street in, oh, say, wichita.

    oh, now it get it…

they wouldn’t really be here walkin around. that was todd trying to SCARE small minded people into voting for him for (no way) senator.

but wait all of the easily scared small minded people already vote for todd.

“Had his office organize a very good tour of the congressional building as well as the senate when my family and I were in DC.”

Then he should open a travel office.

I do not share your experience – he rarely responds to my emails and all have been in advocacy for specific issues facing him in Congress, all in favor of support for bills effecting our soldiers, veterans and retirees – and service people in general (police etc.. ) Never a letter critical of him. Have asked to be put on the town meeting email list / list of public appearances and was on then off the list. He has a poor record when it comes to voting in favor of veteran support programs – I believe it was the Veterans of the First Gulf War that gave him a c, even Obama has gotten a B. He is not a native of Kansas, nor has served anytime in the military. Friends at the VA Hospital say he only visits when there’s going to be cameras there on a special occassion and rarely visits with patients and staff …

Take a look at Morans record compared to Todds, check out his spomsors / donors — Jerry is a Kansan and will better serve the entire state with his open minded and moderate position — he is better able to work with both sides of the aisle and I believe has more respect than Todd in the Halls of Congress …. should be a no brainer ….. Moran is better equipped to represent the entire state.

Todd is the best who exemplifies KS. Are you seriously going to use Todd isn’t a native of KS. That is the lamest argument in the book. Todd who grew up in a state that is more rural than KS and grew on a farm has a better idea of rural KS than Jerry. Let’s not forget that Todd has lived the majority of his life in KS. Lame, lame agrument. Killerpizza, Todd is doing a heck of a job. Standing up for the Tanker Deal, gun’s rights, coal plants, terrorism, etc – what’s interesting is that Todd has been on Fox News, Fox Business, Lou Dobbs, all Wichita, Topeka, and KC TV stations and numerous radio stations standing up for KS and the right issues – where has Jerry been? Has Jerry been on all these stations standing up for his positions? Has he written letters to the Governor’s office expressing support for the coal plant, has he actually been vocal on Gitmo/terrorists to KS – NO – Todd has been very vocal and always has since first being in Congress. Unlike Jerry, Todd has been consistent with his votes supporting veterans, pro life, guns, lower taxes and no new taxes, etc. Jerry has not been. Jerry just decides which way the wind blows and goes that way. Do you actually want somebody like Jerry who since college has always wanted to be a politician – and do you think being a lawyer, and not a very good one at that, represents KS. Jerry is the worst to represent KS. Do you want someone like Jerry who very rarely returns e-mails and does nothing for his constituents. Do you want somebody like Jerry who is not honest with KS and double talks a lot. Most people don’t know where Jerry stands on the issues because he is very wishy washy and he is horrible about working with the other side. Whether you like where Todd stands or not, at least you know where he stands on the issues and quite frankly has worked very well with the other side. Also, it is evident that Todd is a lot more respected in D.C. by his colleagues given his placement on important committees. Jerry does not have the respect in Congress to get things done. Todd will be the best to represent KS.
