Here’s a look into abstinence education.

No wonder it doesn’t work. First they tell you lies about the effectiveness of condoms and they’re teaching methods is if you have sex it’s like smashing your genitals with a brick.
The History of Cinco de Mayo
Introduction
The holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The 5th Of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the Mexican state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico, and especially in U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population. It is not, as many people think, Mexico’s Independence Day, which is actually September 16.
Today’s Celebration:
For the most part, the holiday of Cinco de Mayo is more of a regional holiday in Mexico, celebrated most vigorously in the state of Puebla. There is some limited recognition of the holiday throughout the country with different levels of enthusiasm, but it’s nothing like that found in Puebla.
Celebrating Cinco de Mayo has become increasingly popular along the U.S.-Mexico border and in parts of the U.S. that have a high population of people with a Mexican heritage. In these areas the holiday is a celebration of Mexican culture, of food, music, beverage and customs unique to Mexico.
Commercial interests in the United States and Mexico have also had a hand in promoting the holiday, with products and services focused on Mexican food, beverages and festivities, with music playing a more visible role as well. Several cities throughout the U.S. hold parades and concerts during the week following up to May 5th, so that Cinco de Mayo has become a bigger holiday north of the border than it is to the south, and being adopted into the holiday calendar of more and more people every year.

Darn greedy evil union workers. They’d rather close a piece of American history, than take a pay and benefits cut. Guess they’d rather be unemployed.
“The New York Times Company declared its intention to notify Federal authorities today under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification law of its intention to close the Boston Globe within 60 days. The Times Company, which has owned the Globe since 1993, has been involved in intense negotiations with unionized Globe workers, represented by the Newspaper Guild and the Teamsters.
The Boston Globe faces a potential $85 million loss this year after experiencing a 14% circulation drop. Twenty million dollars stands between management and unions in the negotiations.
“The Boston Globe is New England’s largest newspaper. The newspaper has been in circulation since 1872, reporting on every major event affecting the city and the nation for 137 years.” Associatedcontent.com
The New York Times Co. on Monday had postponed its threat to close the Boston Globe after reaching agreement with six of the seven unions at the newspaper on cost-saving measures.
The Globe says the parent company is seeking $10 million in savings from the Newspaper Guild — the paper’s largest union — as well as $5 million from the mailers, $2.5 million from the drivers and $2.2 million from the pressmen.” Washington Post
Cinco De Mayo is another get drunk holiday just like St Patrick’s Day.
It’s significance has increased since Corona Beer started it’s beach commercials and songs about Cuervo Gold Margarita became the rage.
Not to mention between 20-40 million illegal criminal’s who snuck across the border to steal American jobs and plant non-native grass across our yards.
Why does Obama and the liberal congress hate seniors?
**************************************************
Elderly Hardest Hit
Daschle says health-care reform “will not be pain free.” Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt.

“Why does Obama and the liberal congress hate seniors?”
Good question.
Obama also froze Social Security for the next couple of years – no COLA (first time that’s happened for years).
Obama is also increasing the out-of-pocket expenses some seniors pay for the medicare part B coverage/expenses.
Obama hates old people. Probably because old people are against gay marriage.
Corona is among the worst beers in Mexico, and experienced travelers and Mexican won’t sit with anyone who drinks it.
Sean Hannity has previously referred to “Obama’s bear market” and used declines in the stock market to criticize Obama administration policies.
For example, on the March 10 edition of his show, Hannity said to former Democratic National Committee financial committee chair Michael Brown, “Obama, since he’s elected, has tanked the markets.” Brown asked, “Oh, that’s Obama’s fault?” and Hannity responded, “That’s right.”

beber that’s why you put a lime in it. And NEVER, EVER, drink a Corona that’s not ice cold.

The reason COLA is not increasing is because there is no inflation. Rush must have been busy yesterday. However, if we are ever to have a balanced budget, something is going to have to be done about SS and senior health care. The only way out is to cut it, raise taxes, or expand the economy and import millions of young foreign workers. Probably we’ll have to do all three. Or maybe a pandemic will save us.
And NEVER, EVER, drink a Corona
That was all you had to say brother. Stay away from the skunk pee.
“something is going to have to be done about SS ”
That’s funny. Bush tried to do something about Social Security during his first term. Democrats actually LAUGHED and made statements that “there is nothing broke with Social Security”. In fact, certain posters here (Capt America for one) stated that Social Security was the best example of a successful government entitlement program. Quoted FDR and all.
It is interesting to me that now that democrats are completely in power – “something has to get done”.
American_Way:
I’ll bet that you think it was the evil unionized buggy-whip workers that ran the buggy-whip producers out of business, don’t ya?
“buggy-whip workers that ran the buggy-whip producers”
Saw this coming. In this case, what is a reader supposed to think?
The companies financials are public record – they were in a deficit last year and without change they will have an 85 milllion dollar deficit this year.
There isn’t a profit included in that debt. For investors and management – if costs are not reduced we all loose. We aren’t talking a fight over profit margins here. It’s survival.
“Stay away from the skunk pee”
BTW, I did not endorse Corona. I mentioned their advertising commercials.
I’m still partial to Shiner Bock myself. It’s their birthday ya know.
What’s this? It’s not just a handful of bi gots who are against g*y marriage. Can this be? – it includes a large number of democrats. The party of inclusiveness?
A clear majority of Americans [like the Obama election] don’t favor g*y marriage, backed by many in the president’s Democratic party.
Fifty-four percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp poll released Monday say that marriages between g*y or lesbi*n couples should not be recognized as valid, with 44 percent suggests they should be considered legal. The poll indicates that close to 40 percent of Democrats oppose legalizing gay marriage.”
Not much to think about….the newspaper business is a dying business. The newspaper will get there concessions from the unions and the inevitable will be forestalled for awhile.
People who invested in that form of media made a poor investment.
Your comment is awaiting moderation.
What’s this? It’s not just a handful of big*ts who are against g*y
Monitor doesn’t like the word g*ay or big*ts.
“People who invested in that form of media made a poor investment”
Picking any investment does not involve throwing a dart at a dart board. It requires considerable research. Many leave that to a broker, or default to mutual funds – professionals. But mutual funds contain media stock as part of a portfolio, and professional advisors didn’t fair much better in picking winners and losers.
But all the normal rules for investing have not been working of late. The rules should not be thrown out the window, but in this recession, many of us got hurt.
But back on topic, here is just an example of how complicated just picking a “media” stock can be:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is encouraging people celebrating the holiday with alcohol to designate a sober driver before festivities begin, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.
From 2002 to 2006, the safety administration said 43 percent of highway fatalities across the nation on May 5 occurred due to drunk drivers with blood alcohol content of .08 percent and above.
Cinco de Mayo is becoming an increasingly popular holiday for people to get drunk.
“Statistics show that on average, nationwide, someone is killed every 40 minutes by a drunk driver.

Here’s one for the cons: Rottweiler Blues. I think Warren Zevon wrote it but I’m not sure
Got a Glock in the bedside table
Machine gun leaning by the bedroom door
Kevlar vest in the closet
Well, I wear it when I go to the store
Shadows on the window
Rustling in the hedge
Faces at the peephole
Footsteps on the ledge If you come calling
He’ll be mauling with intent to maim
Don’t knock on my door
If you don’t know my Rottweiler’s name
Halogen lights in the driveway
Guardian Angels living next door
One hundred pounds of unfriendly persuasion
Sleeping on the Florida porch
Slackers in the market
Bangers in the mall
Skinheads on the golf course
Hunting for their balls
If you come calling
He’ll be mauling with intent to maim
Don’t knock on my door
If you don’t know my Rottweiler’s name
Well, he’s dreaming about an intruder or two
And the promise of burglar blood
He’s yearning to chew on a gangster tattoo
And to hear the proverbial sickening thud
Shadows on the window
Rustling in the hedge
Faces at the peephole
Footsteps on the ledge
If you come calling
He’ll be mauling with intent to maim
Don’t knock on my door
If you don’t know my Rottweiler’s name

BILGE, Turkey (Reuters) – Masked men armed with assault rifles and grenades killed 44 people at a wedding party in southeast Turkey in a blood feud between families over who should marry the bride, authorities and residents said.
The bride and her groom were killed in Monday evening’s attack in Bilge, a village of a few hundred people in the conservative heartland of mainly Kurdish southeast Turkey.
“Eight people have been caught and detained, and their weapons confiscated. This can be understood as a blood feud between two families,” Interior Minister Besir Atalay told a news conference.

Murtha’s Nephew Got Defense Contracts
Millions in Work Came Without Competition
By Carol D. Leonnig and Alice Crites
Washington Post Staff Writers
Tuesday, May 5, 2009
The headquarters of Murtech, in a low-slung, bland building in a Glen Burnie business park, has its blinds drawn tight and few signs of life. On several days of visits, a handful of cars sit in the parking lot, and no trucks arrive at the 10 loading bays at the back of the building.
Yet last year, Murtech received $4 million in Pentagon work, all of it without competition, for a variety of warehousing and engineering services. With its long corridor of sparsely occupied offices and an unmanned reception area, Murtech’s most striking feature is its owner — Robert C. Murtha Jr., 49. He is the nephew of Rep. John P. Murtha, the Pennsylvania Democrat who has significant sway over the Defense Department’s spending as chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee.

Usually his press people have to send out a statement clarifying what the vice president meant. On Monday, they had to send out an email clarifying what they meant.
But it was only a minor mistake. Like the city where the vice president was going. And the vice president’s name.

For some inexplicable reason having to do with who knows what, a widespread impression has grown among many politics fans that MSNBC and its crowd of talkers — including Chris “Thrill Up My Leg” Matthews, Norah “The GOP Is Doomed to Die” O’Donnell and Ed “It’s Time to Grind Them Into the Ground” Schultz — are somewhat in favor of President Obama.
Well, actually in complete love with the Great Change Agent.
Now, thanks to the ubiquitous cameras of C-SPAN, comes official videoed word from Kareem Dale, special assistant to the president for arts and culture and a key White House advisor on disability policy.
At the 1:51 mark of this video, Dale candidly reveals the new administration’s reciprocal feelings. Hint: Apparently the new White House has a popular internal saying involving the words “love” and “MSNBC.”
(UPDATE: Courtesy of Washington writer Patrick Gavin we have a new video below showing the remarkably dissimilar treatment the White House press corps afforded George W. Bush and now Obama. Take a peek going to the link.)

XXX that is right to a point. I could cite the stats of what Obama has done but the dems would deny them. So I would invite all those on the left to actually look at the deficit under Obama and see how it has grown for social programs that make people feel good but don’t start to rebuild our great nation.
He is implementing programs that will forever be a drain on the economy of our country. He is implementing plans that guarantee to doom our nation as a great power in the world order. He is assuring that the slackards will live off the more ambitious until the more ambitious say ‘enough’. I will do just enough to take care of myself and the rest can go hungry.
This is the historical demise of all countries that have attempted these policies. The gov can’t be all things to all people. It can’t take from the rich and give to the poor without serious repercussions.

Well, the voters have spoken. If you don’t like it, I hear Canada is nice this time of year.
Another train of thought on the present and future deficit.
————–
An economist with the Cato Institute says it’s disingenuous for President Obama to exclusively blame the Bush administration for the country’s massive budget deficit when deficits and debt seem to be a part of the Obama fiscal plan.
President Obama has been claiming that he was not at all responsible for the $1.3 trillion budget deficit that was in place when he entered the White House. But Cato Institute’s Chris Edwards, a top expert on federal budget issues, notes the president served in the Democratic-controlled Senate when the budget swung into a deep deficit.
“As soon as President Obama came to office, he pushed through a gigantic $800 billion spending package that pushed up the deficit to $1.8 trillion this year — an absolutely staggering amount of money,” Edwards comments.
“And the thing is, this is not just a temporary deficit under President Obama. His budget blueprint that he introduced a month ago foresees the federal debt to rise to over 80 percent of GDP by the end of ten years, which is the highest level since World War II.”

If the Nation’s debt is such a big issue for Republicans, why weren’t they making a fuss about it during the Bush administration?

I think we both know the answer to this question. Debt attributable to tax cuts that primarily benefit the wealthiest among us and money transferred to corporations and their shareholders via no-bid and cost-plus contracts a la Halliburton and KBR is justifiable debt.
Hey, Box, who really wrote the line about the bell tolling?? It sure the heck wasnt Hemmingway(but he was a most interesting writer, when he wasnt drunk).

Brian,
Huh? If you listened to any of the Conservatives you would know we were constantly making a big deal about the debt.
We disagreed with all the spending, the bailouts, etc…etc…etc…
You would only have had to listen to Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, or any of the others for one day to have heard them complain about the spending.
We were opposed to the Prescription drug program too.
Chas when in doubt, google is your best friend.
“If the Nation’s debt is such a big issue for Republicans, why weren’t they making a fuss about it during the Bush administration?”
Brian, this question, and many like it (but during Bush it was o.k.) are getting very old. (ho-hum)
As a conservative posting on this blog and others I have voiced my disagreement with Bushy spending, republican majority, democratic majority in Congress spending.
I know my posts will reflect that; I believe others like Sol and OKobservers will also reflect the same sentiment (please correct me if I’m wrong).
Some of us posting are conservatives. Not necessarily republicans (at least me) any more.
BUSH spending = bad
OBAMA spending = bad
Congress approving = bad
Let’s stick to the issues and not dwell on the past. I know the tendency is to picture us as hypocrites, and sometimes we are. But I don’t think on the budget/deficit spending/or national debt.

“No man is an Iland, intire of itselfe; every man is a peece of the Continent, a part of the maine; if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe is the lesse, as well as if a Promontorie were, as well as if a Manor of thy friends or of thine owne were; any mans death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde;
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.”

Brian,
We were opposed to the Prescription drug program too.”
Were you opposed to the trillion+ spend in Iraq and Afghanistan?

So you don’t mind spending $1trillion ‘to fight terrorism around the world’ but you are against spending $1 trillion on any government programs within the USA.
Is that correct?

F*CKING OBAMA’S SUPPORT GROUP ARE LAW BREAKERS
Nevada charges ACORN illegally paid to sign voters
By KEN RITTER – 22 hours ago
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada authorities filed criminal charges Monday against the political advocacy group ACORN and two former employees, alleging they illegally paid canvassers to sign up new voters during last year’s presidential campaign.
ACORN denied the charges and said it would defend itself in court.
Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto said the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now had a handbook and policies requiring employees in Las Vegas to sign up 20 new voters per day to keep their $8- to $9-per-hour jobs.
Canvassers who turned in 21 new voter registrations earned a “blackjack” bonus of $5 per shift, Masto added. Those who didn’t meet the minimum were fired.
“By structuring employment and compensation around a quota system, ACORN facilitated voter registration fraud,” Masto said. She accused ACORN executives of hiding behind and blaming employees, and vowed to hold the national nonprofit corporation accountable for training manuals that she said “clearly detail, condone and … require illegal acts.”
The complaint filed in Las Vegas Justice Court accuses ACORN and Edwards each of 13 counts of compensation for registration of voters, and Busefink of 13 counts of principle to the crime of compensation for registration of voters. Each charge carries the possibility of probation or less than 1 year in jail, Masto said.
A court hearing was scheduled June 3 in Las Vegas, prosecutor Conrad Hafen said
ACORN is eligible for billions – count them – BILLIONS of tax dollars under the Obama approved budget- by Obama design. If convicted of a crime, I don’t think they should receive one penny of taxpayer money. Just FYI: ACORN has received millions in the past of federal dollars. Obama was ACORN’s lawyer

Richard McTear Jr., 21, was arrested and charged with throwing a 3-month-old baby boy out of a car window on I-275 highway Tuesday morning in Tampa, FL. The infant, Emanuel Murray, is dead, and the mother, Jasmine Bedwell, claims she was also battered by the monster.
McTear has a lengthy criminal history that includes several battery and assault charges, including domestic battery by strangulation and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is a fugitive on a 2008 felony battery charge in Hillsborough County.
Asked how he could throw a baby out the window of a moving vehicle, McTear responded “It’s a dirty game.”

Airman Scott Boie, 23, was sentenced in Alaska to 9 years, 6 months behind bars on Saturday after he was found guilty of attempting to kill his unborn child. After his wife refuse to commit an abortion, the monster had slipped his wife the drug Misoprostol, used for stomach ulcers and known to cause miscarriages. The baby died after the poisoning.

“Clark County Registrar Larry Lomax said that ACORN canvassers submitted 91,002 registration forms last year, resulting in 62,905 new registrations after the elimination of duplicates and questionable applications.”
Not too bad, for a professional organization(cough, cough, choke). Only 30% of the ballots, 30,000 ballots had Mickey Mouse signatures.
Pretty clear violation of state law:
The Nevada complaint alleges 26 counts of “Compensation for Registration of Voters,” which it called a felony under state law.
“By structuring employment and compensation around a quota system, ACORN facilitated voter registration fraud in this state,” Attorney General Masto said. She alleged that the group’s training manuals “clearly detail, condone and, indeed, require illegal acts.”

Uh-Oh. Dissention in the ranks. Obama cannot tolerate that.
“WASHINGTON — President Obama is eager to seek a bipartisan solution to ensure the long-term solvency of Social Security, people who have spoken with him say, but he is running into opposition from his party’s left and from Democratic Congressional leaders who contend that his political capital would be better spent on health care and other priorities.” NYTIMES
Notice democrats don’t dispute the “solvency of the Social Security System” is a problem. They just don’t think it’s politically correct right now. More denial and more delay to fixing a big problem.
Uh-Oh. Even more dissention. Guess Obama won’t get to rush through more legislation – without thinking.
“Obama’s proposal to close tax loopholes was a reliable applause line during the presidential campaign, but it got a lukewarm response Monday from Capitol Hill.
Sen. Max Baucus of Montana, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said the plan needed further study, even though similar ideas have been around for years.“

“When you get older, you will realize that the beliefs and ideals you held as a child actually change as you mature. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch Bluejay.”
I just had to respond to this!
People don’t get more bigoted when they get older–bigotry is something ingrained at a young age, something that can be reversed with hard work. Those of us who grew up around gay people aren’t going to suddenly become homophobes because we reached the big 4-0.
There are many younger people who oppose equal rights for gays, but either they are struggling to choose heterosexuality every day like…ahem…some young males on this blog, or they are just misinformed and will become more openminded as our society progresses.
I wonder how many people who were horrified at the idea of a black man marrying a white woman 40 years ago would now no longer blink an eye at a mixed race couple?
You see Jr the main difference between you and us ‘cons’. We worked hard to get to where we are now. We can work hard again if the Obama reign of terror takes it away. Elections are held every two years.
You on the other hand sit around with your hand stuck out waiting for Obama to fill it up. Hope your arm isn’t getting tired.
You will never have what I have. You don’t have it in you.
“storm your portals and attack.:
Rather the fate I have in mind for people like you who use other people to make your living.
I will say that some viewpoints change with age–as I’ve gotten older I’ve become more accepting of gun owner rights and less tolerant of those who abuse the systems meant for the truly unfortunate…
But I stand by my assertion that, barring some traumatic incident, members of my generation are not suddenly going to become bigots.
“You will never have what I have. You don’t have it in you.”
I sure hope not.
It is not in me to use the labor of other people to make me money.
It is also not in me to bend knee to someone who does.
If I were like you, I couldn’t live with myself.
I don’t even want to IMAGINE what that is like.
To take the labor and freedom of another person, keep the profits for yourself and pay them what YOU think THEIR work is worth?
I cannot imagine how any decent human being could be so presumptuous.
But there’s that word decent.
“There are many younger people who oppose equal rights for gays, but either they are struggling to choose heterosexuality every day like…ahem…some young males on this blog, or they are just misinformed and will become more openminded as our society progresses.”
Tara how do you define ‘oppose equal rights for gays’? If someone thinks that special protections for segments of the population are wrong does this make them bigoted? Or does it just mean that they don’t agree with your opinion of ‘equal rights’. I see the left use this argument a lot as on todays Tiahrt vote on ‘hate crime’ law.
I think that anytime you violate a person gay or straight you should get the full punishment for the crime whether the victim is a gay male or female senior citizen.
What you call bigotry might just be a difference of opinion. Novel idea.
“okobserver” –
I freely admit most of “BlueJay’s” opinions are to the left of mine.
One of the things I learned from my seven years in Los Angeles was just how moderate I am, compared to the full political spectrum.
You can go back to yesterday’s thread about Concealed Carry to see how well my moderate approach plays with the wingnuts of Kansas.
I supported the NRA’s approach and posters such as “Nathaniel” kept attacking.
Sheesh.
You too, “okobserver,” seem to respond to many of my posts with a predisposed agenda that doesn’t have anything in common with the positions I write about.
Eh…
So many of you CONs seem so enamored with your philosophies and prejudices you’ve lost track of reality.
Widen your perspective just a tad and you’ll discover I’m about as moderate a “lib” as there ever was… and I represent the vast majority of most people’s opinions.
The CONs on WE Blog are so far to the right, and have so many co-CONspirators, they think they’re in the middle. And, come to think of it, they are in the middle of the Republic Party’s inevitable self-induced meltdown.

I don’t even want to IMAGINE what that is like.
To take the labor and freedom of another person, keep the profits for yourself and pay them what YOU think THEIR work is worth?
I cannot imagine how any decent human being could be so presumptuous.
But there’s that word decent.
——————
Jr if you weren’t so truly pathetic you would be annoying. As it is I just feel pity for you. What a miserable little man you are to begrudge others jobs to take care of their families while you sit on your behind and ridicule them for that is what you do each time you post this drivel.
Pitiful and pathetic. As I said you will never have what I have. The good feeling you get when you hire someone no one else wants to take a chance on. When you have an employee thank you for giving them a job so they can regain their self esteem. When they tell you they can finally buy groceries for their children.
Yes BJ you will never have what I have.
That’s right okie.
I will never have another human being carrying a cell phone that I give them as a leash so that I can dispatch them to do work to make me money on pain of going back to prison.
Yeah, you’re a real hero.
Notice the need I don’t have to call you names?
You do quite well on your own.
American_Way,
Here is the part of the AP story you didn’t copy/paste. I see now why you don’t make a practice of linking to the source of your copy/pastes.
——————————————-
Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller emphasized the case involved “registration fraud, not voter fraud,” and insisted that no voters in Nevada were paid for votes and no unqualified voters were allowed to cast ballots.
Law enforcement agencies in about a dozen states investigated fake voter registration cards submitted by ACORN during the 2008 presidential election campaign, but Nevada is the first to bring charges against the organization, ACORN officials said.
ACORN has said the bogus cards listing such names as “Mickey Mouse” and “Donald Duck” represented less than 1 percent of the 1.3 million collected nationally and were completed by lazy workers trying to get out of canvassing neighborhoods. The organization has said it notified election officials whenever such bogus registrations were suspected.
ACORN spokesman Scott Levenson denied the Nevada allegations on behalf of ACORN, which works to get low-income people to vote and lists offices in 41 states and the District of Columbia. He blamed former rogue employees for the alleged wrongdoing.
“Our policy all along has been to pay workers at an hourly rate and to not pay employees based on any bonus or incentive program,” he said. “When it was discovered that an employee was offering bonuses linked to superior performance, that employee was ordered to stop immediately.”
Levenson said the two former ACORN organizers named in Monday’s criminal complaint – Christopher Howell Edwards and Amy Adele Busefink – no longer work for ACORN and would not be represented by the organization.
Edwards, 33, of Gilroy, Calif., and Busefink, 26, of Seminole, Fla., could not immediately be reached for comment.
Masto identified Edwards as the ACORN Las Vegas office field director in 2008, and said timesheets indicate that ACORN corporate officers were aware of the “blackjack” bonus program and failed to stop it. The attorney general said Busefink was ACORN’s deputy regional director.

“my generation are not suddenly going to become bigots”
Pretty narrow minded Hawaiian chick.
You fail to even see that one or two people see “marriage” as a very special act reserved to one man and one woman. They believe so for many possible reasons; upbringing, faith, religion, values implanted in them through their experience.
These people are not suddenly “bigots”. That is your judgement call – not truth.
You also do not acknowledge changes in your life based upon further experience and learning. Practical changes, religious experiences, exposure to good and bad, comfort levels, and all the things you do now – that you would not have done at 18-21. All the things you did when young, which you would not do now.
Oh and don’t pull that trick either.
Don’t try to turn me against working people. I have fought for the rights and fair treatment of working people my whole life. And don’t act like you’re some great benefactor for stealing another person’s time and industry to keep you available for all day blogging.
But the upshot is, you and people who think like you are getting older. The future for you is not at all bright.
BJ your picture that you paint in your little bitty mind doesn’t have even a resemblance to the company my family has.
Your outlook on life is so jaundiced that you see a boogie man behind every tree. You should because the utopia you keep thinking is coming your way just isn’t there and won’t be. The dreams you have of taking money from the hard workers who earned will never happen in the country we live in.
Obama may well try it but in the end the true worker bees of this country will prevail.
As for calling you pathetic and pitiful. Those aren’t names they are adjectives which describe the way you live your life and the desire you have to be taken care of by something or someone other than yourself.
Daniel,
1. The charges were filed.
2. The hearing is in June.
3. Of course the two employees were “fired”, ACORN wants to wash it hands of their wrong doing.
4. The charges are not two lowly off the street employees.
“The complaint accuses Christopher Edwards , former field director for ACORN’s Las Vegas office, of creating a “Blackjack” or “21+” system that awarded a $5 bonus to low-paid canvassers who brought in 21 or more completed registration forms in a day. It alleges that Amy Busefink , ACORN’s deputy regional director, approved the scheme.”
5. And most of your post is not material to the charges (which is why I didn’t waste the space.)
They are not charged with registration fraud or voting fraud.
They are charged with violating Nevada’s law’s related to “compensation for registration of voters.”
And this time, I think the charges will stick.
To take the labor and freedom of another person, keep the profits for yourself and pay them what YOU think THEIR work is worth?
————
That is the way this economy is set up. Schools don’t teach much entrepreneurism. They teach kids the skills necessary to get a job.
But in order to accomplish anything substantial and beneficial to society, even a communist like you must realize that a business needs employees. And what they are paid depends upon the market for their skills. Dumb labor isn’t worth much. Not getting paid enough? Change your skill set.
And of course the organizers, the risk takers, the brains are entitled to profit from the activities of their employees. Why else would you want to take that responsibility on?
Bluejay did you use your ballbat and garden hose in this fight?
So you think that a business owner that invests their own money and time to start a business and alway make sure all employees get paid whether you take home any money that week or not is ‘taking advantage’.
Well BJ I can guarantee I have helped more people with the jobs we have created over the last 25 years that you could even dream of.
You are a ledgend only in your own mind so just take your ball bat and garden hose and sit on your front porch. Yep thats helping people find jobs. Sure it is.
“The dreams you have of taking money from the hard workers who earned will never happen in the country we live in.”
That’s YOUR dream. And apparently come true enough that you can sleep with yourself.
The younger working people in this country, we are going to be trusted with the task of caring for you who have done this to our country. As you age and require care?
That might make you sleep a little less comfortable if you really think about it. If you can…really think about it.
Spare me the “Atlas Shrugged” lecture.
Atlas needs knee-capped.
“American_Way” waxes eloquently about –
“…people see “marriage” as a very special act reserved to one man and one woman.”
Then tell Newtie and Limbaugh to shut the f*ck up about it. Six marriages between them. Six wives for two men.
Tell Vitter to stop hiring hookers so he can dress up in diapers.
Don’t let them preach from some imagined higher ground of morality for “traditional” marriage when they have a well-documented history of desecrating the “sanctity” of marriage vows.
Or admit that gender-neutral marriage affects your life (nor anyone else’s) a whit.
Bluejay I have adequately prepared for my own care. Thank you however for the thought. With your work ethic I hope all seniors are as fortunate as I have been in working hard and saving enough to take care of themselves.
The thought of depending on a nation of Jr’s is scary.
“will never have another human being carrying a cell phone that I give them as a leash so that I can dispatch them to do work to make me money”
Bluejay what you fail to realize, and probably never will is that many of us enjoy our work. We have careers. We are professionals in our fields.
We have earned advancements , rewards, and success.
Most workers are proud of the work they do. People take pride in a job well done. It increases self-confidence and self-respect.
We don’t see our jobs as “working for the man”, but more like we are an active, contributing, and vital part of “the man”. We can see our contributions,
we can take credit for our rewards. We enjoy the salaries and benefits we’ve
e-a-r-n-e-d. And yes through hard work. Guess what? I feel better on days I work the hardest. The problems I solve, the fixes I make, are all self-rewarding.
Oh yes, for every one of us who is happy in our job, you can find an example of someone unhappy. Yes, there are days that I wish I’d hit the lottery and there are days I get mad at my boss or other employees (few and far between these days). But I would not trade the relationships, friendships, and acquaintences I have at work for any other job.
“Someone” else is always better off than me. “Someone” else is always a boss. “Someone” else got away with something. But that is part of life.
It will never change.
There aren’t ten big wigs in some tall dark tower, rubbing their hands together, gleefully snapping whips at the American workforce.
You are missing out Bluejay. Your words paint you as jealous, regretful, or remorseful for your own lot in life. You want to be the big cheese – but don’t put forth the effort to “get ahead”. Subsequently, you only have free cheese.
And that will never ever leave you feeling rewarded.
“thought of depending on a nation of Jr’s is scary.”
That’s why SS is going broke. Not enough workers not on the dole to pay into it for seniors.
Monkey I think this is the one thing that separates cons and libs most. Cons make up their own minds. No one passes around a memo and says this is the thought for today. This is the view we think you should take today.
I know all libs don’t think alike but I also know there is a party line on both sides. Because of something Limbaugh or Newt have done should in no way impact my thinking on any paticular item.
“American_Way” waxes eloquently”
Thanks Monkeyhawk.
“Or admit that gender-neutral marriage affects your life”

“okobserver” attempts –
“…one thing that separates cons and libs most. Cons make up their own minds. No one passes around a memo and says this is the thought for today.”
Wow.
Now that’s naive.
It’s been well documented that the Fox News Channel gets precisely the memos you reference; Every single morning.
It’s a recurring gag on Jon Stewart’s “Daily Show” stacking up CONs reciting the same talking points. Not the same idea, not the same concept, the same words word-for-word from any Republic Party operative who can get in front of a camera.
Last night, Stewart ran a series of Republic Party congresscritters time and time again talking about “the chilling effect” that supposedly would result from passing the hate crimes bill.
http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=225932&title=House-DC—College-Bowls-&-Hate-Crimes
Oh, yeah.
You CONs all think for yourselves.
Give me a break.
AmWay the scariest thing about the JRs of this world is that they have no idea what goes into building a successful business. The years of me working outside the family business to bring in money to pay our own bills because the cash wasn’t there to pay our workers and ourselves. We made sure the workers got paid and we made do with what was left.
My husband was a union rubber worker before his job was sent to Mexico in 1986. Twenty three years gone with nothing to show for it but a lot of union dues paid out.
Hard work and an investment of our life savings went into building our business.
This is why I have such contempt for the JRs of the world and am no fan of unions.
Monkeyhawk don’t focus on the few big shots, politicians, or even so called “christian” leaders who go astray.
I know we are part of a minority, but my better half and I have been married for three decades. Faithfully.
There are those who truly believed “for better or worse”, and “until death do us part”, and worked to achieve it.
That said, I have zero problem with gays having civil ceremonies/partnerships. But most importantly: I have zero problems for them having the same rights married couples enjoy. I do personally reject to them using the word, “marriage”. Call it whatever they like – something new and exciting. But I think they are stuck on “marriage” (even though libs hate the religion connected that word) because it will ensure equal rights. And I’m all for equal rights.
I’d even take it a step further. Remove the word “marriage” from all legal paperwork and laws (to include IRS). Marriage is a biblically significant act – not a manmade government act.
So take that legal right away from all of us.
My husband was a union rubber worker before his job was sent to Mexico in 1986. Twenty three years gone with nothing to show for it but a lot of union dues paid out.
=============================================
After 23 years he wasn’t vested in any type of pension plan?
“they have no idea what goes into building a successful business.”
I have family and many friends like you Okobserver who run a business. My oldest brother is my best example. While I did a 8-4, 9-5, regular job w/weekends and holidays off: He was stuck working.
When I wanted to take him on a fishing trip – he had to work. XMAS? Think scrooge, the last one out the door.
And that’s just the “time”. Not the headaches, responsibilities, pressures, stress and trying to balance an office book. That doesn’t cover you paying personal property taxes on your home at 11.5 percent but downtown you also pay on your business at 23.5? percent. And it doesn’t cover your having to work WITH employees too (everyone looks at this from the bottom up, most don’t look at the relationship from the top down).
I admire you and respect you for it. I don’t care WHAT business you run.
(I should add for 20 years I put in what I look back on as “days” not hours as a Marine, that I would put up against my bro’s work days.)
Monkey do a lot of cons think alike? Of course they do. Are their statement alike? Many times, yes. No one tells me what to think or say. I have a good mind and use it daily.
I am a fiscal conservative and in most respects a social conservative. That is who I am not what I am programed to be. The talking points memo was spouted during Bush’s terms and disproved. No evidence to support it.
All television talk shows run the kind of spot you talked about. There is as much ammo on the left as right.
In all honesty I cannot say I have ever been in a serious debate with you on anything of substance. Usually because you start with a put down that I take exception to. Such as the joke about Obama’s bad decision he made about the burger joint to go to.
You turned that into a putdown of me. No sense of humor evem though I applauded Michelle O on her choice of burger joints.
And as I said to Tara earlier. Just because I have a different opinion than you do on something doesn’t make me a bigot. It just means I don’t agree with your opinion.
Daniel yes he was vested. You would have been surprised how little those 23 years as a good union worker were worth.
That money as well as everything else we had went into the business. I’m not complaining. We succeeded and a lot of small businesses don’t.
okobserver,
Most pension plans for union jobs at that time were defined-benefit pensions and the workers had some protection if the employer moved away or went belly up.
It just surprised me when you said he had nothing to show for 23 years of service. That was the only reason I asked.

It’s not uncommon.
My father is a retired railroad worker. They had the big merger with the Santa Fe and Burlington – so there were many layoffs.
He had tenure,so got retirement early – less than 40 years.
But a lot with less than 30 years had to take a payout with no retirement. Some got lucky and transferred keeping their job.
With unions, it’s not always clear cut, especially if actions after a merger, a shutdown occurs. This means the contract that they thought they had isn’t so good.

QUIET SUN MAY TRIGGER GLOBAL COOLING
Could reduced sunspots be tied to temperatures on Earth?
That’s what has astrophysicists and meteorologists wondering as the sun enters a prolonged “quiet period,” a deviation from the usual 11-year sunspot cycle in which the dark blobs on our star’s surface ebb and flow, reports
National Geographic News.
And there may be a link to global warming — or, in this case, cooling. Current theories link an earlier solar quiet time to the “Little Ice Age,” a cold snap that lasted from about 1300 to 1800 in Europe and North America.
During such “solar minimums,” as they’re called, the sun dims a bit, magnetic activity is reduced and solar storms are fewer. No one knows how long each will last until it’s over.
The Maunder Minimum, a period of extremely low sunspot activity from about 1645 to 1715, coincided with the coldest part of the Little Ice Age, when Dutch canals regularly froze during the winter.

“While evidence suggests fluctuations in solar activity can affect climate on Earth, and that it has done so in the past, the majority of climate scientists and astrophysicists agree that the sun is not to blame for the current and historically sudden uptick in global temperatures on Earth, which seems to be mostly a mess created by our own species.”

They are highly critical of the U.S. Government’s response to

Would this be Rev Wright?

(U//FOUO) A movement of groups or individuals who
pursue shared ideological goals through tactics of leaderless

jimjohnsohn shows his true, blue, anti American colors by supporting felons owning guns. Class act there, moron. As they say in England: This man is too stupid to breed.
When ever reading posts by OK/KS Grandma I am reminded of a comeback by Winston Churchill…
When confronted by the wife of a member of Parliament who said “If you were my husband, I would poison your tea!” Churchill replied, “If you were my wife, I would drink it!”
I pity Mr. OK/KSGrandma – I wonder if he asks for second helpings of tea.

It is sad and all too common that your husband was a victim of corporate greed. Apparently, he decided to join ‘em rather than beat him.

Ernest Hemingway Quotes
Do not ask for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee. »
http://www.quotes.net/authors/Ernest+Hemingway
That statement has generally been accredited to Hemingway, and is so from several sources. It was also use earlier by the English poet and real, as opposed to faux, preacher John Donne.
The faux preacher’s ability to comprehend is very limited as well. On my original post I never gave Hemingway author credit, simply that he illustrated the concept in his book ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’.
It is plain to see the FAUX preacher got his certificate, if he even has one and I doubt it, from a cereal box.
What a dumbbass.
Yea, Max… that sure is a Hemmingway quote — Old Ernest quoted it straight out of John Donne… 400 years earlier??
Anybody who would cite this as coming originally from Hemmingway, has got to have an intellectual screw loose, righ Box?? Donne lived in the 16th/17th Centuries…
You’re not stupid enough to try to challenge that, are you??
Then again, from your name calling screed, maybe you are!! LOL
It’s simple Box… Hemmingway wrote the book… Then, for a title, he quoted Donne… He didnt invent the phrase.. easy, huh??
“Yea, Max…” s/b Yea, Box…
sorry for the typo
“That statement has generally been accredited to Hemingway, and is so from several sources.” [boxlock]
Box, this is just so FALSE of a statement, there is only one possible response: Huh?
What school of literature did you go to?
I’m guessing, NONE…. LOL
Nobody with an ounce of integrity would even think of attributing a phrase known in nearly all the world, to come from John Donne, would attribute it to Hemmingway…
Except for Box and his maginary “others”
Shakespeare didn’t invent a lot of his phrases or even story ideas. He re-invented, re-introduced old stories and phrases from the Greeks and others.
You can see this clearly in The Tempest.
Backpedal, Boxic, backpedal faster!
Yep.. true.. And the writers of West Side Story, and Tennessee Williams both borrowed from Shakespeare…
Shakespeare’s re-writes, etc., were also well-known in his own time as well. They didnt use footnotes much then.. :-)

Why is so hard to admit to that FACT??
My exact, copy and pasted in comment was, “Kemp was a good and decent man. As Hemingway explained in ‘For Whom A Bell Tolls”, Kemp’s passing is a great loss to all of us….and again the bell tolls for us.”
Hemingway used that phrase in his book to express the concept, and that phrase is listed as a quote attributed to him, as seen above and in dozens and dozens of other sites I could have listed, but first that we know of written by John Donne (1572-1631), BUT WHAT’S THE POINT. Whether or not he authored it is irrelevant in the way I used it up thread.
Are you all making something of it so very stupid (obviously are) as to not understand that “explained” does not necessarily mean authored?
Hemingway was making that point and that is all I said.
Now, lets look at why some are making a big deal out of nothing.
It is because I get to you and beat you at our every encounter that you hang on anything you THINK you can get one up on. Ha! I do!
It shows you are weak and lack self-confidence and are petty.
Oh, and Chas, when you say “Shakespeare’s re-writes, etc., were also well-known in his own time as well. They didnt use footnotes much then”.
Remember John Donne lived (1572-1631), and Shakespear mid/late 1500, generally 1531 to 1592, they didn’t use footnotes then either.
Keep trying, “Boxlock20″ –
You went all google posting links to your contention the quotation is Hemingway’s.
Your attribution to Hemingway revealed your underlying ignorance of the quotation.
Look. It’s no big deal. But it’s on a par with attributing –
” Some men see things as they are and ask why? I dream things that never were and ask why not”
…and attributing it to Ted Kennedy.
First off, Teddy was quoting his brother.
It’s the kind of thing Bobby might have said but there’s no record of it.
Further — and evidence Bobby might have said it someplace; he was always quoting people — RFK was quoting George Bernard Shaw… who actually wrote those words.
But anyone who attributes the quote to Teddy, or to Bobby, inadvertently exposes ignorance.
That’s what happened with your Hemingway reference.
I keep trying out of concern for your ignorance Monkey.
When I am dealing with idiots I must remain patient and repetitive in the extreme.
I personally did not attribute authorship in my first post about it in fact, I simply said Hemingway said it and it applied to Jack Kemp and that is exactly the fact. Then when jumped on by fools I sited several, of which there are dozens, of sites actually giving him credit simply showing it is a common thought.
Now, what’s your problem, I would venture you would not have any clue to who said what and simply want to try and make points where you can’t any other way.
Face it, “Boxlock20″ –
I took you to school.
Again.
Hemmingway QUOTED the John Donne work..
======================================
I don’t know if Metallica knew who they were quoting.
Monkey,
You couldn’t take a rock to school without losing it.
Face it, your claim to fame is as a second rate blog participant, and a poor one at that.
You are also a liar as I never said Hemingway authored that statement but that he use it and it describes the death of Jack Kemp.
You have nothing of importance to hang on, petty.
