Here’s Susan Boyle’s performance last night on “Britain’s Got Talent.”

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/05/24/susan-boyle-sings-memory_n_207237.html

Not as strong as her first appearance.

But there’s nothing like an Andrew Rice Weber anthem to gin up the crowd.

Y’gotta know Ciline Dion is s#itting her pants because Suasan Boyle’s got the same voice and is succeeding even without dieting herself into Vegas spandex.

“All those salads! Wasted! Order in a double order of poutine!”

That’s a United States Marine in todays Open Thread photo. Damn finest fighting force the world has ever known. Marine Sergeant, one hash mark, over four years service to God and Country. Hard to tell, but looks like two rows of ribbons. Gloved hand fingers straight (unlike army salute). Left hand: tip of index finger touching tip of thumb resting along blood stripe of trousers. White belt still horizontal – parrall with deck, perfectly, while saluting. Front seam of Dress Blues blouse still straight up and down. Cover, slightly tilted, too much for my liking. But I’ll cut him some slack since the photographer angle may be making appearances misleading. Eagle, globe, and anchor gleams with appropriate shine on front. High and tight readily visible. Does not appear to be eyeballing the area. Rifle expert, pistol, not-so-good. But give him a 9mm I still wouldn’t want to meet him on the open range.

“The price of crude will go up again because of actions by North Korea and Iran.”

Fear and confidence drive the market. Not supply and demand.

Let’s invent something really spooky to get the price over $5 a gallon. Or perhaps Obama can just increase the tax to get us there. Easier than cap and trade – and much more honest. Either the government gets the profits – or the oil companies do.

I prefer not the government, but lets get the price jacked up soon. We need to sell more Honda’s and Toyota’s. The sooner the Big Three go tits-up, the fewer tax dollars will go down the tubes.

Resthaven Memorial Service – well done, AF BG Susan Helms spoke of her trip in the shuttle, and on the space station, very much talked (80% of her time it seemed) of herself (tried to relate it to military TDY’s) thanked the troops etc ….. but totally failed to mention the Challenger astronauts and others who died in the cause of the space program.

. and sadly, a soldier in Confederate garb, marched slightly behind, but for all intent with the Color Guard, flying a Confederate Flag, and when all the flag bearers had their flags at rest, in cluding the American flag — he had the nerve / stupidity to have his and the only one flying at full bristle — even the American Flag was being held at rest …….. what don’t they get —— they lost, get over it, and the bearer should be ashamed as well as any group that sponsored him. we don’t fly the German or Japanese flag and they lost too — the concept of United States is totally lost on some people ….

The Sickest State in the U.S.A. Is…

…Mississippi. Also on the sick list are Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada and South Carolina.

That’s the word from the “2009 Heath Care State Rankings: Health Care Across America” compiled by CQ Press, which ranked all 50 states in order of best and worst health care. The healthiest state is Minnesota, followed by Massachusetts, Hawaii, Iowa and New Hampshire.

    ******

Sickest states are predominately Republic states and healthiest states are Democratic.

Hey Capn. Were there any other factors that might have an effect on the health rating of various states besides who they voted for in the last election?

    Oh look at us.

    No. 15: Kansas

In 2007, the Sunflower State climbed back into the top 10 for the first time since 2001 when it ranked seventh. This year, it drops back down a whopping five spots to No. 15.

Kansas still ranks in the top 10 though for having one of the lowest average annual health insurance premiums.

The democrats have no plan JJ. In fact, many of their leaders admit as much when they turned down Obama’s funding request.

Funny, just months ago they were professing how evil GITMO was and the need to close it.

Yet the end of May: No plan. Just more Bush attacking. Geez, you’d think they’d get over it.

CapnAmerica did to be fair. Others pointed to a recent military officer reason for closing GITMO, but nothing from before Obama took power.

The dims fear everything. But little do they realize that closing the multi-million dollar facility in Cuba will only result in moving the problem somewhere else – at great expense.

Nothing changes. The bad guys will still teach their hatred of America (the great satan). They were teaching school children to hate us long before GITMO and will continue to do so long after it closes.

“WHAT is Obama’s plan for North Korea and Iran?”

    Here is my guess:

1st: Obama will wax eloquently via teleprompter
2d: Obama will call on the world community to fight
3d: Media will be impressed & give raving reviews.
4th: Obama will call on the UN to act (again)
5th: Obama will send Clinton flying around
6th: Ultimately Obama will do nothing but what he is best at.

    Talk

    Uh, whaaaat?

Libs know exactly why Gitmo is “bad.”

It was set up off of US soil, not to protect Americans, but so that Constitutional rights of prisoners could be more easily flouted.
    =======================

Oh, so foreigner terrorists captured in combat on foreign soil have US Constitutional rights?

I thought maybe Gitmo was selected to keep these terrorists out of the USA.

Ok, so Obama’s solution is to bring them to the USA.

    Nice. Very nice.

Hey, remember Bush calling them the axis of evil?

What’s Obama calling them now? That will show those North Koreans and Iran a thing or two. Obama will give em a new name.

Like he made everything better by changing the Global War on Terror to ‘Overseas Contingency Operation.

Yep. Obama needs a new name for them – that will make them give up immediately!

In fact they were locked up in a conex at Sqdn hdqrtrs about a mile from the baracks … during Tet 68 Viet Cong were trying to over run the town (at our back gate) — lucky Spec, Forces had a HQqrtrs right behind our barracks … ahhh the good old days ….

If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. Whenever we choose, we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat, there is nothing wrong with your PC. You have just participated in a great adventure of exposing the true reality of the world. You have just experienced the awe and mystery of Conservatives exposing the Truth.

For now, the WE Blog is being returned to control of the Liberals. You may now cease to bask in the glow of the superior Conservative beings. You are now returned to the simple world of hope and change that your minds can understand.

Indie, from reading your post, I can tell you that two decades later: Not much has changed in the air force. They still get the big bucks, the air conditioned tents with cots and floors. And they still are not trusted to shoot anything more than a fly swatter on the ground. The planes are probably newer. But they still buy their uniforms at JC Penny’s and wear them right off the shelf.

Could be wrong, but in my twenty years with the Marine Corps, the air boys had it made everywhere I went. “Fun” would not be a word I would choose to describe my career.

Of course you guys had to spell your first, last, and full middle name correctly to enlist. We had it easier in the Corps.

BTW, the garters on the socks extend up the trouser leg to clip on the shirt tails. They are not two separate sets – one garter each leg. And it’s not to keep the socks up. (Monkeyhawk may have an unusual problem with socks which fall down) The purpose is to keep the shirt tightly tucked and seams on line.
