Another effect of ‘clean coal’, coal ash provides a long list of ailments to those living near clean coal ash dump sites.

Coal ash is damaging water, health in 34 states, groups say

WASHINGTON — People in 34 states who live near 210 coal ash lagoons or landfills with inadequate lining have a higher risk of cancer and other diseases from contaminants in their drinking water, two environmental groups reported on Thursday.

Twenty-one states have five or more of the high-risk disposal sites near coal-fired power plants. The groups — the Environmental Integrity Project and Earthjustice — said that a 2002 Environmental Protection Agency document that the agency didn’t release until March of this year adds information about toxic releases from these facilities to nearby water systems and data on how some contaminants accumulate in fish and deer and can harm the health of people who hunt and fish.

Hey, it’s Sunday so we might as well be reminded of the harm religion does to society. Here we have a story of religious belief that is going to kill a child because it’s against the parent’s religion to provide their kid with chemo therapy.

    http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/health/44594367.html?elr=KArksUUUycaEacyU

So while the kid would normally have a 95% chance of survival that has now dropped to 5%. The parents are sure to rejoice if their child dies because he gets to go to the fictional heaven. Religion provides not just legally protected murder it provides legally protected child abuse.

    From BlueGirl –

PZ Myers shares a table comparing the scientific method to the creationist method:

    Scientific thinking

    * An observation: vertebrate embryos show striking resemblances to one another.

    * An explanation: the similarities are a consequence of shared ancestry.

    * Ongoing confirmation: Examine more embryos and look more deeply at the molecules involved.

    Creationist thinking

    * A premise: all life was created by a designer.

    * An implication: vertebrate embryos do not share a common ancestor.

    * A conclusion: therefore, vertebrate embryos do not show striking resemblances to one another.

Wish I’d known about this back in high school; it would have saved me loads of time in biology class.

Of course, this circular logic applies to arguments well outside creationism. PZ’s table works for politics, too.

    Liberal thinking

    * An observation: In this economic recession, people and businesses do not spend money.

    * An explanation: The economy suffers from a lack of demand.

    * Ongoing confirmation: Stimulate demand through government spending and monitor the results.

    Conservative thinking

    * A premise: Everything liberals, Democrats and non-conservatives want to do is wrong.

    * An implication: government spending that does not benefit only large corporations and religious organizations is always bad.

    * A conclusion: therefore, government spending that does not benefit only large corporations and religious organizations is always bad.

It’s argument by false premise. Wingnut freakazoids don’t have to be stupid or evil or insane to use this method, although I’m sure stupidity, evil and insanity helps.

Interesting that the WE hasn’t taken the opportunity to point out the Kansas Legislature/Governor’s offices at their best, in terms of fiscal resonsibility. They began a capitol building “remodel” in ‘99 with a price tag of $90-$120M, and last week topped $300M spent to date, with another bond approval of $38M in the works. Sounds eerily similar to the budget estimate success of the US congress and their visitor’s center. In fact, don’t see anything on the net reporting on up to date status of this money pit of a construction project. Here’s the latest report I see from about a year ago, that missed the estimate by $53M.

Did you READ the article you link to there bawks?

Or, did you just see the comments and think it would be a coup for your side to post that here?

“USAN Boyle turned down the chance of a dream dinner date with President Barack Obama in Washington . . . to stay at home and wash her hair, we can reveal.

Britain’s Got Talent’s Hairy Angel confessed to being TOO NERVOUS to meet the American president – her most famous fan – at a glittering star-studded bash.

A source told us: “She was shocked and thrilled by the invite – but it was all too much too soon for her so she said No.”

“She has been told President Obama has seen clips of her on TV and loved her singing. And she is delighted.

“But instead she’ll have no doubt stayed in with her cat Pebbles, washed her hair and watched Britain’s Got Talent on telly.”

American TV networks all fell over themselves to give her a special invitation to the prestigious annual Correspondents Dinner which took place in Washington DC last night. President Obama was guest of honour and invitations are like gold dust.

Dowdy spinster Susan – who captured hearts around the world when she sang I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables – would have rubbed shoulders with the rich and famous including Hollywood A-listers at the five-star Hilton Hotel . . . and the President.

    Fame

But the 48-year-old favourite to win the TV show – who lives in a council house in the tiny Scots village of Blackburn, West Lothian – turned them all down.

Susan’s invitation shows what a huge star she has become in the States. And her refusal shows that worldwide fame has certainly not changed her.

“She knows she would have been incredibly nervous if she’d gone,” said the source. “But her dream is to sing for President Obama one day.

“She loves him and thinks he is already a terrific president.”

OWWWW that’s gonna leave a mark!

Mostly to satisfy his neurotic compulsion to ’see’ who was frustrating him so badly on a small time blog, and calling him what he is, a societal parasite, and I think also to impress a rude and crude les/bian for some bizarre reason. Isn’t that last one weird!
I let him stand in the cold waiting and wondering. I was hoping, but obviously overly estimating his intellectual abilities, to advance in maturity beyond a hormone driven adolescent that picks fights to mistakenly overcome their own inadequacies.

That short article very conveniently left out the source, which discredits the source completely, it didn’t say where that lame reason she is alleged to have given came from. Does it sound like it came from her…hell no, it sounds like it came from someone protecting the messiah. You think she would have said “oh, I’d really like to sing for little Barry but I’m too nervous? Gee what a moron to believe that. But then again those thinking that are DimLibs.

Try to keep up cosmos, of course I read XXX post, so what?
Like I said…if that were the main motivating factor why not simply say so instead of ’sorry, I need to wash my hair’, ha!!!

Only those fake excuses work on nerds like yourself.

” “AS SHE SAID, she has better things to do than accept his invitation like wash her hair.”

    Bawks

“None of the acts are allowed to go [overseas] for any events until the show is over so we had to decline on her behalf,” the rep said.”

    Bawks a few minutes later.

    Do you ENJOY humiliating yourself?

That offer to meet is still open bawks. IF I can bring a camera.

I got to see and share what you are the picture of!

What a dumbass, you think cosmos that little Barry personally picks up the phone to call talent show contestants to get blown off.
Well, maybe he is that stupid and un-presidential.

THIS one is too good bawks.

I’m tempted to ask for a thread “Cinderella Susan Boyle disses President Obama”.

Except? This is what YOU say Susan Boyle did. And she is on her own path, not yours.

    But?

I’ll give a little of what you gave here a re-air tomorrow.

I’m not thinking you can find any allies with YOUR gymnastics.

    boxlock,

You’re the one who’s be ranting at length about what is probably a fake (joke) story spread by an unnamed “source”.

And you, boxlock, took that probably fake story to the next level, by saying:

Boxlock20: “She stiffed him, the ‘messiah’ little Barry got stiffed.”

All that probably really happened was 1) she was invited (but not by Obama), and 2) the show rules did not allow her to attend.

On a related note, doesn’t Obama have better things to be doing than inviting reality show stars to dinner?

    Ya know what bawks?

Even though I am GLAD you did because it says so much about you and where YOU are?

    How dare you?

How dare you use the story of a woman risen to glory on nothing more than her own spunk and spark to LIE and try and make a story to keep your own dark light burning?

Boxlock20 (nic previously changed when he decided he was too good to post here)

The new worst poster on the blog.

Ah but you’re leaving out the best part of the reported story,
    By Douglas Wight, 10/05/2009
“SUSAN Boyle turned down the chance of a dream dinner date with President Barack Obama in Washington . . . to stay at home and wash her hair, we can reveal.
“But instead she’ll have no doubt stayed in with her cat Pebbles, washed her hair and watched Britain’s Got Talent on telly.”

She was invited or approved by someone on the Obama staff though, and that’s what makes it so fun.
