Another effect of ‘clean coal’, coal ash provides a long list of ailments to those living near clean coal ash dump sites.
Coal ash is damaging water, health in 34 states, groups say
WASHINGTON — People in 34 states who live near 210 coal ash lagoons or landfills with inadequate lining have a higher risk of cancer and other diseases from contaminants in their drinking water, two environmental groups reported on Thursday.
Twenty-one states have five or more of the high-risk disposal sites near coal-fired power plants. The groups — the Environmental Integrity Project and Earthjustice — said that a 2002 Environmental Protection Agency document that the agency didn’t release until March of this year adds information about toxic releases from these facilities to nearby water systems and data on how some contaminants accumulate in fish and deer and can harm the health of people who hunt and fish.

Hey, it’s Sunday so we might as well be reminded of the harm religion does to society. Here we have a story of religious belief that is going to kill a child because it’s against the parent’s religion to provide their kid with chemo therapy.
http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/health/44594367.html?elr=KArksUUUycaEacyU
So while the kid would normally have a 95% chance of survival that has now dropped to 5%. The parents are sure to rejoice if their child dies because he gets to go to the fictional heaven. Religion provides not just legally protected murder it provides legally protected child abuse.
M.P.: Do you have a mother? If so, I suggest you pick her up and take her to Church and lunch this fine Sunday morning.
When I was 18, my mother said, “Son, now than you’re a man you don’t have to go to church if you choose not to.” That was in 1962 I never attended another church service. Broke her heart I did. Haw, haw, haw.
Perhaps the CONs would like to use today’s Open Thread to rant about how President Obama’s choice for the upcoming vacancy on the Supreme Court will most surely ruin America, destroy democracy, and cause the downfall of Western Civilization.
Or do you want to wait ’til there’s a name announced?
I hope the nominee isn’t a Texan because Hannity says they are a bunch of liberal elitists for eating their burgers with just mustard.

Happy Mother’s day to all moms and all those who choose to stand in as Mpms.
Moms, happy Mother’s day to all moms.

PZ Myers shares a table comparing the scientific method to the creationist method:
Scientific thinking
* An observation: vertebrate embryos show striking resemblances to one another.
* An explanation: the similarities are a consequence of shared ancestry.
* Ongoing confirmation: Examine more embryos and look more deeply at the molecules involved.
Creationist thinking
* A premise: all life was created by a designer.
* An implication: vertebrate embryos do not share a common ancestor.
* A conclusion: therefore, vertebrate embryos do not show striking resemblances to one another.
Wish I’d known about this back in high school; it would have saved me loads of time in biology class.
Of course, this circular logic applies to arguments well outside creationism. PZ’s table works for politics, too.
Liberal thinking
* An observation: In this economic recession, people and businesses do not spend money.
* An explanation: The economy suffers from a lack of demand.
* Ongoing confirmation: Stimulate demand through government spending and monitor the results.
Conservative thinking
* A premise: Everything liberals, Democrats and non-conservatives want to do is wrong.
* An implication: government spending that does not benefit only large corporations and religious organizations is always bad.
* A conclusion: therefore, government spending that does not benefit only large corporations and religious organizations is always bad.
It’s argument by false premise. Wingnut freakazoids don’t have to be stupid or evil or insane to use this method, although I’m sure stupidity, evil and insanity helps.
It’s been said that women are the keeper of our morals. Regardless of beliefs, I hope all Mother’s have a wonderful Mother’s Day! Surely that’s at least one issue that’s truly bi-partisan.
“When I was 18, my mother said, “Son, now than you’re a man you don’t have to go to church if you choose not to.” That was in 1962 I never attended another church service. Broke her heart I did. Haw, haw, haw.”
beber, from that statement it is very apparent that you may have tuned 18, but you NEVER became a man.
We pretty much already knew that though.

Obama the car companies ban. I think he may own a SUV himself. We could all drive peddle cars and make emissions that way. The politicans should have let the car companies alone starting forty years ago. Any way article on the Messiah and the autos we drive or may not drive.

Notice the use of “CONs” when he is the one addressing the subject. Does this make him a “Con”?
I bet the repubs are huddled with their communication advisors learning tag lines about the S.C. nominee, just like they’re learning lines about the Health Plan.
By the time they are announced repubs will be ready to pounce!
Obama’s choice will be based on what he considers politically correct and where he can win points as apposed to what’s best for the country and pick someone that will uphold the Constitution as it is written.

White males need not apply?
Happy Mother’s Day!!
Does mother’s day extend to blog mamas?
Hehe.
Thank you for the wishes, my blog children.
As far as I am concerned, PMama, you bet… Happy Mother’s Day!! Keep in touch, ok??
NYPost is not a reputable source, George. It’s a Murdoch paper.
Will do dear thanks.
Interesting that the WE hasn’t taken the opportunity to point out the Kansas Legislature/Governor’s offices at their best, in terms of fiscal resonsibility. They began a capitol building “remodel” in ‘99 with a price tag of $90-$120M, and last week topped $300M spent to date, with another bond approval of $38M in the works. Sounds eerily similar to the budget estimate success of the US congress and their visitor’s center. In fact, don’t see anything on the net reporting on up to date status of this money pit of a construction project. Here’s the latest report I see from about a year ago, that missed the estimate by $53M.
http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2008/mar/03/fixerupper/?print
I think its just about par for anything else construction-wise…always count on it costing about double what you originally thought it would.
And I’ll tell you this. If waterboarding is a christian principle and God approves, please let me go to hell so I can stay away from all of you.
I’ll gladly go to hell where the nice people are.
PAPER: Susan Boyle turns down chance to meet Obama!
“SUSAN Boyle turned down the chance of a dream dinner date with President Barack Obama in Washington . . . to stay at home and wash her hair, we can reveal. ”
What an insightful and truly talented lady.
She can see right through all the ‘messiah hype’ and would rather do something constructive like wash her hair.
Beautiful!!!
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/showbiz/britains_got_talent/299403/Britainrsquos-Got-Talentrsquos-Hairy-Angel-Susan-Boyle-turned-down-invite-to-Correspondents-Dinner-where-she-would-have-met-President-Barack-Obama.html
Did you READ the article you link to there bawks?
Or, did you just see the comments and think it would be a coup for your side to post that here?
“USAN Boyle turned down the chance of a dream dinner date with President Barack Obama in Washington . . . to stay at home and wash her hair, we can reveal.
Britain’s Got Talent’s Hairy Angel confessed to being TOO NERVOUS to meet the American president – her most famous fan – at a glittering star-studded bash.
A source told us: “She was shocked and thrilled by the invite – but it was all too much too soon for her so she said No.”
“She has been told President Obama has seen clips of her on TV and loved her singing. And she is delighted.
“But instead she’ll have no doubt stayed in with her cat Pebbles, washed her hair and watched Britain’s Got Talent on telly.”
American TV networks all fell over themselves to give her a special invitation to the prestigious annual Correspondents Dinner which took place in Washington DC last night. President Obama was guest of honour and invitations are like gold dust.
Dowdy spinster Susan – who captured hearts around the world when she sang I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables – would have rubbed shoulders with the rich and famous including Hollywood A-listers at the five-star Hilton Hotel . . . and the President.
Fame
But the 48-year-old favourite to win the TV show – who lives in a council house in the tiny Scots village of Blackburn, West Lothian – turned them all down.
Susan’s invitation shows what a huge star she has become in the States. And her refusal shows that worldwide fame has certainly not changed her.
“She knows she would have been incredibly nervous if she’d gone,” said the source. “But her dream is to sing for President Obama one day.
“She loves him and thinks he is already a terrific president.”
OWWWW that’s gonna leave a mark!
““She knows she would have been incredibly nervous if she’d gone,” said the source. “But her dream is to sing for President Obama one day.
“She loves him and thinks he is already a terrific president.” ”
I just thought I’d repeat that part for bawks.
Like instant replay of him inserting his foot into his mouth?
She stiffed him and wisely too.
She simply has more social graces than you BlowJ.
I rather doubt you know the meaning of social graces there bawks.
But you sure can open a door AND run into it real good!
BlueJay sings…
P W N E D
Bawkslots says “come laugh at me”
MO ron!
““She loves him and thinks he is already a terrific president.”
“”But her dream is to sing for President Obama one day. ”
Sure she does….BUT NOT THIS ONE!!!
If you aint careful?
You’ll spin up your own butt their bawks.
Your thumb first clearing way for your foot which made room for your head.
“Susan’s invitation shows what a huge star she has become in the States. And her refusal shows that worldwide fame has certainly not changed her.”
Smart girl as well as talented.
“She knows she would have been incredibly nervous if she’d gone,” said the source.”
Ha ha, and that source ?….a White House spokesperson.
She stiffed him, the ‘messiah’ little Barry got stiffed.
“She loves him and thinks he is already a terrific president.”
You NEED to believe that, don’t you bawks?
Just like you needed to believe that a white female John McCain supporter was attacked and mutilated by a black, male Obama supporter? CARVED a “B” for Barack in her face?
Remember how you needed to believe that one?
One can delude themselves when they NEED to believe something in order to feel better.
Again….the source(?), ha, a White House spokesperson.
What a couple of incredible carp….so easy to hook in.
What’s new!
Hey readers?
Ever see a cat run across a room and crash into a closed sliding glass door?
You know? How they put on like “I meant that. That is exactly how I wanted that to look!”
Hey bawks?
Here kitty kitty kitty.
Again BlowJ, one of the dumbest life form imaginable.
Is that all you’ve got, a situation reported on the local news, and then national news, without a shred of questioning until a day later.
You’re weak, proven by how many times do you need, out of your own weak self-image, to keep bringing that one single thing up.
I think it’s funny, except it isn’t, because you’re pathetic.
BlowJb is just craving for something, ANYTHING, to help him get over being absolutely ‘punked’ by me as a result of his repeatedly challenging me to meet in a grocery store parking lot in the middle of winter to ’set me straight’ on a few things. Mostly to satisfy his neurotic compulsion to ’see’ who was frustrating him so badly on a small time blog, and calling him what he is, a societal parasite, and I think also to impress a rude and crude les/bian for some bizarre reason. Isn’t that last one weird!
I let him stand in the cold waiting and wondering. I was hoping, but obviously overly estimating his intellectual abilities, to advance in maturity beyond a hormone driven adolescent that picks fights to mistakenly overcome their own inadequacies.
I guess I failed, ha….his loss.
Box, I think he’s got you. You sourced the article. You can’t parse it out. How do you figure that just the part you like is true and the rest isn’t?
“Ha ha, and that source ?….a White House spokesperson.”
Funny, I didn’t see where it said anywhere that it was a White House spokesperson. Did I miss something?
That was really dumb. You’re usually smarter than that. Probably best to drop it or just man up and admit you goofed.
Boyle wasn’t allowed to attend Obama dinner
“A rep for the reality competition told Access Hollywood on Sunday that Susan “was invited by numerous networks… to be a guest at the event,” but that show rules prevented her from attending.”

Not nearly as exciting an Box’s version, but a whole lot more likely.
“Funny, I didn’t see where it said anywhere that it was a White House spokesperson. Did I miss something?”
It didn’t say in THAT article. That short article very conveniently left out the source, which discredits the source completely, it didn’t say where that lame reason she is alleged to have given came from. Can anyone really accept something when they say “according to sources”, what ’sources’ are they trying to protect? Certainly not her if they alleged she said it.
Does it sound like it came from her…hell no, it sounds like it came from someone protecting the messiah. You think she would have said “oh, I’d really like to sing for little Barry but I’m too nervous? Gee what a moron to believe that. But then again those thinking that are DimLibs.
“Any veteran of the dating scene, past or present, knows what the “That was a really nice offer, but I’ve got plans to wash my hair that night” brushoff means. Obama just got blown off totally. And suddenly, Susan Boyle is a whole lot cooler in my book”, and she was already really cool.
On a related note, doesn’t Obama have better things to be doing than inviting reality show stars to dinner?
YOU seem to be the one not capable of getting past your no show bawks.
I don’t mention it anymore and don’t need to.
“It didn’t say in THAT article. ”
Let me translate.
“I stuck up my thumb, thought I pulled out a plum. And now will attempt a very difficult dismount.”
This is actually pretty funny watching the contortions.
Looks like Obama and Clinton have Pakistan solidifying against the Taliban and Al-Quida. Something bush and condi either could not, or would not do.
“That short article very conveniently left out the source, which discredits the source completely…”
It’s YOUR link! That you I guess HOPED no one would actually read.
Nah, you didn’t read it.
You were out looking for something, ANYTHING, to attack the President with.
You FOUND, probably, some of the comments linked to the original article and thought ya hit gold.
My original assessment stands.
You opened a door and walked into it.
Oh and also, why in the world would the ’source’ (ha), or Susan herself not say ‘Thank you, but I can not attend because of the contest rules, maybe another time when the competition is over but thank you’, instead of, ‘I must stay at home and wash my hair’.
Does anyone believe that if that girl could get up in front of a jam packed house, on multinational television, in front of critical judges and sing like she did not do so at a ‘dinner party’? Ridiculous!
Heck, maybe she was too nervous, who would want to go sing for a weirdo that looks like this:
http://z.about.com/d/politicalhumor/1/0/O/N/2/alfred-e-obama.jpg
I guess she knew her comment of “I’m too nervous” and I need to “stay home and wash my hair’ would be read by idiots like BlowJb and that was enough of an explanation.
Again, that girl is super….she’s right on that too.
Actually, Susan NEVER said she was too nervous, THE UNNAMED SOURCE SAID THAT! She said “I can’t come, I need to stay home and wash my hair”!!! Too funny!!!
Damn but you ARE the picture of desperation bawks.
You would have been one of the folks hooting Susan Boyle off the stage. You show it here all the time.
Taking things AND people at first take without any better understanding?
NOW, you want to recruit this Cinderella story and tell us that she was not too humble to sing for the President. She was not constricted by the rules of the contest that won her the attention she so richly deserves.
NO, she secretly HATES the President of the United States!
Because YOU say so.
Because you need her too.
Bawks? You’re Republican Senator Larry Craig caught in an airport restroom and I am the cop that caught you.
“Embarrassing. Embarrassing.”
What??? BlowJb have you gone completely insane, or even more insane I should ask?
Making suppositions that are ridiculous.
Look whose in desperation…uh, here’s a clue, go look in the mirror.
I never said she hates the Pres. of the U.S., only you did, I said, AS SHE SAID, she has better things to do than accept his invitation like wash her hair.
Again, too funny.
Oh, and what does Larry Craig have to do with anything, unless fear on your part….do you spend a lot of time in men’s restrooms BlowJb, is that how you got your nic.
By reading his words, if boxlock is an example of the average Republican, it’s no wonder the party is in shambles.
“A source told us: “She was shocked and thrilled by the invite – but it was all too much too soon for her so she said No.”
“She has been told President Obama has seen clips of her on TV and loved her singing. And she is delighted.
“But instead she’ll have no doubt stayed in with her cat Pebbles, washed her hair and watched Britain’s Got Talent on telly.”
The “source”.
That bawks alternately and from one paragraph to another bawks considers either a memeber of the Obama staff or Susan Boyle herself?
“AS SHE SAID, she has better things to do than accept his invitation like wash her hair.”
Ya didn’t read before you posted your link bawks. How many times you gonna hit yourself in the face with that door?

None of the acts are allowed to go [overseas] for any events until the show is over so we had to decline on her behalf,” the rep said.”
Eat it BlowJb and JW, you both lose AGAIN!
Try to keep up cosmos, of course I read XXX post, so what?
Like I said…if that were the main motivating factor why not simply say so instead of ’sorry, I need to wash my hair’, ha!!!

Well, maybe he is that stupid and un-presidential.
Sure BlowJb, Dillon’s parking lot Central and Rock at high noon!
Be there or be square.
What a jerk!
THIS one is too good bawks.
I’m tempted to ask for a thread “Cinderella Susan Boyle disses President Obama”.
Except? This is what YOU say Susan Boyle did. And she is on her own path, not yours.
But?
I’ll give a little of what you gave here a re-air tomorrow.
I’m not thinking you can find any allies with YOUR gymnastics.

boxlock,
You’re the one who’s be ranting at length about what is probably a fake (joke) story spread by an unnamed “source”.
And you, boxlock, took that probably fake story to the next level, by saying:
Boxlock20: “She stiffed him, the ‘messiah’ little Barry got stiffed.”
All that probably really happened was 1) she was invited (but not by Obama), and 2) the show rules did not allow her to attend.
