GOP lost edge on national security

iraqsoldiers4The public historically has preferred Republicans on national security issues. No longer. Democrats and Republicans now rate the same, according to a new Democracy Corps poll. And Democrats have moved far ahead of the GOP on specific security issues such as Afghanistan and Iraq, the poll found. The Democratic Party probably is getting a boost from President Obama, who has a 64 percent approval rating on national security among likely voters.

Obama has been President for a little over 100 days a lot less than Bush with 9/11. One would think that 100 days would be enough time to appraise security procedures and threats, so yes if the country suffers a 9/11 style attack Obama would be partly to blame

All those illegal immigrants crossing our borders have certainly become a nation security for those that can benefit from it.
Nation security in this nation is now a faire tale!

Yeah, Democracy Corp Poll by James Carville – Old Serpent Head, is where I look to for definitive answers on national defense.

I also get the best secrets from Joe “Loose Lips” Biden.

Some observations made over the last 50 or so years- Republican party politicians seem more interested in benefiting the defense industry than they are in actual defense. They tend to see the military as a defender of business interests than as a defender of America or American ideals. The Republican party is certainly not exclusive in possessing such biases, but they certainly are more openly biased.
One of the most important parts of maintaining the peace is maintaining relationships with other countries. The fewer enemies you make, the less you end up fighting. The Republican party has at least publicly eschewed diplomacy in favor of bullying. That tends to make more enemies, and increases demand for bigger, nastier and more expensive weaponry, which our defense industry is only too happy to supply. Bullying is also favored by the business community as it entails making fewer concessions, at least over the next quarter.
According to the Republicans, criticism of the bully mentality is construed as lack of support for our boys in uniform. It would seem to me that the best way to support them would be to avoid unnecessary wars like the plague, rather than sacrifice them on the altar of a more profitable next quarter.
But then, I don’t have to go begging for campaign contributions either.

Jeez, let’s think this through a bit.

We can give billions to defense contractors like Halliburton, Blackwater and Boing ‘cuz we HAVE (!!!) to, but giving money to everyday Americans is WRONG, socialistic and anti-Christian!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that is the Republican Party line.

    Corporations = good.

    Average Americans = bad.

    Nice job, GOP.

What the Hell, let’s pump a few trillion into Iraq, you know, because George WMD Cheney had a hard on for Saddam Hussein, but God forbid we should spend a nickel on REAL Americans.

You know, ‘cuz that’s the way JESUS wanted it to be.

Funny, Hank justified the War on Iraq to me because there was a connection between Saddam and al Qaeda because “there have been books written about it!”

That, in my view, is a great foreign policy agenda.

Jeez, there have been books written about “Ghosts and Goblins.” Should we invade SOMEONE because there have been books written about it?

WS one simple fact the libs are known for overlooking. Those nasty mean ole corporations furnish jobs to a lot of average Americans.

Why exactly do the nere do wells who sit on their behinds with a hand out contribute? Nothing, zilch, nada.

We are seeing those jobs go bye bye as big Obama takes over more and more private business. Tell me how that is working for you.

Iraq wasn’t the only one that broke international law:
“The United States and the European Union view all Jewish settlements in the West Bank as illegal under international law and obstacles to peace. Netanyahu, who heads a new right-leaning Israeli coalition, has resisted calls to freeze the expansion of Jewish settlements.”
Guess it’s ok if your Israel.

    Granny,
“Those nasty mean ole corporations furnish jobs to a lot of average Americans.”

If you’re talking about the nasty mean ole corporations I was referring to above, they make their money when their products get blown to hell with some of those average Americans inside them, and the government spends our money on a replacement for more of our average Americans to get blown to hell in. That sorta takes care of any excess labor market.

When will the pinheads ever learn? The military for Republicans isn’t about national security. It’s about closing business deals. Like the business deal called Iraq. And we know what a success Bush has been with business deals. Not one of them made money for anyone but him. Case closed!
