Greater threat is not gay marriage

gayweddingcake“The battle over same-sex marriage is on the way to being lost,” columnist Cal Thomas concluded. And for those on the political and religious right who are intent on continuing the battle, Thomas asked: “What poses a greater threat to our remaining moral underpinnings? Is it two homosexuals living together? Or is it the number of heterosexuals who are divorcing and the increasing number of children born to unmarried women, now at nearly 40 percent according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention?”

Complaints seem to be hurting GOP, not Obama

obamacongress2Despite aggressive GOP complaints about pork-barrel spending, out-of-control deficits and encroaching socialism, President Obama continues to receive strong support from the public. Americans approve of Obama’s handling of the economy, foreign policy, Iraq and Afghanistan, and two-thirds say they approve of his overall job performance, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll. Meanwhile, only 31 percent of respondents said they had a favorable view of the Republican Party, the lowest level in the 25 years the question has been asked in the poll. And more than a 3-1 majority of the public trusts Obama more than congressional Republicans to make the right decisions about the economy.

Hastert picks Tiahrt

hastertFormer House Speaker Dennis Hastert plans to do a $1,000-a-ticket fundraiser in Chicago on April 20 for Rep. Todd Tiahrt’s Senate bid, according to the Hill newspaper. In reporting the event, the Hill recalled that Hastert had unflattering words for an unnamed Rep. Jerry Moran in his 2004 book, related to the 2003 House vote on the Medicare prescription drug bill. Hastert wrote: “One prairie state member, a fourth-term representative from a solidly Republican district, voted no, then ran and hid. I sent people to find him. They couldn’t.” Meanwhile, Moran, also running for the Senate seat, recently secured the endorsement of conservative Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla.
