The Obama administration was wise to drop its idea of billing private insurance companies for care provided to veterans for service-related injuries and health issues. The government made a promise to provide health care to veterans and shouldn’t back off of it. Even staunch opponents of “government-run health care” were up in arms about the proposal. Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, wrote President Obama a letter this week voicing his “vehement opposition to any such proposal that shifts the burden from the VA to veterans and their insurance providers.”
