Old dog teaches Westminster a new trick

dogwinnerTaking a break from politics. . . . A 10-year-old Sussex spaniel called Stump became the oldest best-in-show winner at the Westminster Kennel Club Tuesday night. Meanwhile, The Eagle has a cute video of a local pit bull who talks — though an Eagle article about the dog notes that her speaking sounds a bit like Peter Boyle, the Monster in “Young Frankenstein.”

I loved the story about the talking Pit Bull.

I knew a Basenji long ago, and he could also talk.

He could tell his Daddy “I love you”. We actually got it on tape at a party to prove it.

When we listened later, it was obvious his Daddy was kinda hammered when he was teaching the dog to talk.

Actually, the dog’s “I love you” was more clearly understood than the slurred words his Daddy got him to imitate….

heheheh. HAHAHAHAHAHA. We still tease him about it!

Oh for the good ol’ days!

I watched the first part of the show and then got busy doing other things. Saw that the Scottish Deerhound and Irish Wolfhound had won first and second.

My grand aunt had a chihuahua that could dog-speak ‘mama’ and ‘I love you.’ Still remember it clearly. Heck, my grand Aunt was almost 70 in the 1950s when that little dog was yapping ‘human’ sounds. She died a few days short of 100 years old.

Wow, that is a very old dog.

What the heck does a 100 year old chihuahua look like, anyway? A large raisin with legs and ears?

    Dog years.

    Almost 16, but not quite…

My grand Aunt lived to the age of 99 years and 11 months and so many days (forgot exactly).

I really enjoyed watching Stump win last night! He knew it was special and was appropriately excited and happy.

I love dogs. Probably bettern most people.

I thought it was rigged. Stump was a good dog, but the story behind it made him a favorite. Stump’s life had been saved rather heroically, I think if that hadn’t happened, he might not have won.

They were all obvious top notch dogs though.

Personally, I’ll take a mixed breed any day over a papered pooch. They’re healthier, smarter, and capable of having and giving great time. It’s almost (and occasionally is) a crime against nature, what we’ve done to the dog genome!
Give me a good ole Heinz 57 varieties D. O. G., and I’ll have more life and fun with it than I would with some poor registered, overclipped poodledoo dog!
As for older dogs, they have the advantage of shredding someone elses house during puppy puddlescence, and I get the properly house-broken in, well-mannered and wise model. Gotta love them Mutts! And you get the satisfaction of putting those cruel, horrible puppy mills one sick papered puppy closer to bankruptcy!
