Who says Obama era won’t be funny?

There has been some talk of the coming “Obama comedy crisis,” after what has been a 16-year golden age. But so far Jay Leno seems to be holding up under the challenge. Among Leno’s recent quips:
– “At his confirmation hearing, attorney general nominee Eric Holder said as far as he is concerned, waterboarding is torture. And Treasury secretary nominee Tim Geithner said, ‘So is paying taxes.’”
– “Whenever politicians don’t pay their taxes, ‘Oh, it’s an honest mistake.’ Huh? You know what they call it when you and I don’t pay our taxes? ‘Exhibit A for the prosecution.’”
– “Barack Obama plans to issue an executive order on his first full day in office directing the closing of Guantanamo Bay. He said he needs the money for new prisons to hold Democratic mayors and governors.”

Actually when people miss paying their taxes they’re sent another letter informing them of their failure to pay taxes and they have to pay the taxes, plus a fine and interest. There isn’t an immediate prosecution. That’s what happened to Geithner, that’s what happens to everyone else.

I think the biggest mistake is thinking Leno is funny. Is he still telling Lewinsky jokes or jokes about Clinton liking women?

Not perfect, but by god we call out our bad politicians when they do wrong. Which is far more than you do.

Tell me, now that Bush isn’t in office- will you hold him accountable- now that you don’t have that whole ‘respecting the office’ nonsense going on anymore.

To me, respecting the office of the Presidency depends on who is in office and how they earn that respect. You don’t just blindly let them get away with everything.

Even Shrub’s politicized IRS says Geithner’s error is common for people who work overseas and file US income taxes. That’s how they found it; it happens all the time.

Now, it is significant that guy heading the IRS knows first hand our tax code is way too complicated. When my accountant sends me my tax returns to sign, I sign ‘em. Every time I’ve called him up to ask about this or that, he’s got the law on his (my) side for every deduction.

I’ve been audited once (and I’d rather have a colonoscopy) and ended up getting some money back. No one on the planet understand in totality the nuances of the tax code. I’d like the guy in charge of the IRS to be aware of that.

Liberal bloggers were completely intolerant of Joe the Plumber’s tax issues. Therefore, liberal bloggers can easily over look the Democrat nominee for Treasury Secretary Geithner’s tax issues.

Does that make sense people? Ya know, Joe the Plumber can’t ask Obama a question and owe back taxes but it is completely logical that the nominee for the Secretary of Treasury owes back taxes.

Wait, did I just make it obvious how hypocritical liberals are?

    My bad.

How nice of Mary to invite everyone, even conservatives. But I thought it was supposed to be a celebration of the savior Obama’s ascension to power. No matter.

Say a few hosannas for me.

So instead of celebrating Obama’s inauguration, you are celebrating Bush’s leaving?

    What a surprise.

There will be a new National Change Memorial in the National Mall commemorating the change that happened on this day.

600 Private jets fly in for the crowning of the one. Can you just imagine all the emissions and the stupid politicians complaining about the few that the auto mogals flown in. Greenies ought to be complaining about all the climate change causes here.

    “Predestined” alleges –

“…it’s a sign that our aircraft industry here in Wichita still has a chance.”

    I sincerely doubt it.

The auto exec hearings pretty much killed the private corporate jet business. There are still plenty of active leases, I’m sure, but how many will be renewed?

I know a corporate pilot and he’s looking forward to retirement. He’s spent his entire career hauling around execs and politicians and VIPs and says, generally, they’re @ssholes.

He says already he’s being instructed to fly to airports well away from the most public airports. As when visiting Bentonville, Arkansas some companies land in Ft. Smith or Fayettville so their arrival at Walmart offices isn’t quite so pretentious.

WAL-MART EXEC: “How’d ya get here?”
    VISITING EXEC: “By Town Car.”
    WAL-NART EXEC: “Good answer!”

The corporate jet is a perk of the rich and fabulous that’s as passe as cocaine and $3,000-an-hour hookers.

The only people buying new personal jets over the next four years will be televangelists and Dick Cheney.

Now, if only Wichita had the industrial infrastructure to shape sheet metal into wing-shaped thingies for wind turbines…

At least Larry Craig flew commercial.

Damn right the Obama era is going to be funny. Its been a laugh a minute so far. A treasury secretary nominee who didn’t pay his taxes. An AG pick who is corrupt as the day is long. A HHS secretary who couldn’t even get reelected even though he was Senate majority leader. And best of all, the gift that promises to keep on giving. Joe Biden. And now add to the list, Biden’s bimbo trophy wife. Yesterdays interview on Oprah was an instant classic. She goes completely off the reservation and announces to the World that Joe had the choice of VP or Sec. of State. Imagine Queen Hillary’s reaction to the world finding out she was a second choice to Joe Biden for Lords sake, for Sec. of State. Now maybe her humiliation is complete. Even better was Joe Biden’s reaction as he realized what she was saying. First trying to stop her, then the look of resignation as he realized it was too late. You just can’t make this stuff up. I can hardly wait to see what the next four years will bring. Its like F- Troop just moved into the White House.

    Mary,
I assume there will be two parties back to back on Friday; the first one’s a wake for the death of the conservative agenda and the second is a celebration of a new day dawning for America! Since both will necessitate consumption of alcohol, the dividing line between them may get a bit blurred.
