So they said

“It’s like the budget being Mount Everest and coal being Sunflower Mountain, or whatever the highest point in Kansas is.” – Rep. Pat George, R-Dodge City, on how the budget crisis is expected to overshadow even the Holcomb coal plants during the legislative session that starts Monday
“For the next eight or 16 years, Republicans will dominate the statewide offices.” – Christian Morgan, executive director of the Kansas Republican Party, after Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson’s decision not to run for governor in 2010
“I come from a farming background. I have to have the 2009 crop in the bin before I worry about the 2010 crop.” – Dennis McKinney (in photo), asked just after he was sworn in as state treasurer whether he’d run for governor in 2010

Yup, Republicans will dominate because Kansans just don’t know better. No surprise the states that are the worst off are the ones that vote Republican consistently.

Which Republicans? The conservative right wing OR moderate Republicans who used to represent Kansas Republicans? Actually, I think Kansas Democrats have a similar split … the Harry Truman Democrats vs the big government Democrats.

That budget has got to be serious if it’s going to detract from the repub. golden grail, the coal plant.

Many democrats want the living wage jobs and alternative energy sources that the Holcomb plants will provide. We want renewable and independent energy but not so fast that we may have to do without.

    Which Republicans?”

Kansas seems to have an overabundance of those you politely refer to as, “The conservative right wing.

And Kansans keep electing and then reelecting them, so who should be given the blame and credit? Maybe Kansas is truly well represented by the nut jobs!

Fiscal conservatism is a good thing for either party and we better start practicing it at both state and Federal levels.
