“It seems to me that the Left has won: utterly and decisively. What I mean is, the ‘Saturday Night Live,’ Jon Stewart, Bill Maher mentality has prevailed. They decide what a person’s image is, and those images stick. They are the ones who say that Cheney’s a monster, W.’s stupid, and Palin’s a bimbo. And the country, apparently, follows,” writes National Review senior editor Jay Nordlinger. To properly push back at the media, entertainment and educational forces that promote such views, he concludes, the conservative “counterestablishment needs to be tended, and beefed up.”

Donkeys love death
Egyptian Clerics Encourage Martyrdom in Gaza:
We Must Love Death

The angel of the LORD also said to her [ Hagar ] “You are now with child and you will have a son .. You shall name him Ishmael [ father of the Arabs ] for the LORD has heard of your misery . . . He will be a wild donkey of a man .. his hand will be against everyone .. and everyone’s hand against him .. and he will live in hostility .. toward all his brothers” . . . . Genesis 16
I will admit the left excel at character assassination and hate speech towards anyone that has conservative values.
No question is the winner of hate as policy are those who align themselves with the political left.
The left is so easily led that the press and Bill Mahers of the world have an easy job. I will challenge any thinking member of the democrat party to read with an open mind Ann Coulters book ‘Guilty’. It is more liberal to hate her and her message than to have an open mind I know so I don’t expect anyone on the left to take me up on it. And BJ I know you Linda read a book last year so I don’t expect you to read one this year especially one that challenges you to think.
Maybe the reason those images stick so well is that they’re right on; Cheney is a monster, W’s breathtakingly stupid, and Palin is the quintessential bimbo!
RE:”They decide what a person’s image is, and those images stick. They are the ones who say that Cheney’s a monster, W.’s stupid, and Palin’s a bimbo”
I think that’s called reality, and the public’s perception thereof. That’s not a plot!
This is what Faux gets for not offering Drew Carey enough to host what would have been a right-wing “Daily Show” rip-off.
Right-wing wacko Nordingler needs some cheese to go with his whine!
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
I love the open minds of the left!
okob – lend me the book and I will try to read it. Unfortunately my ‘recreational’ reading is limited by all the ‘work’ reading I do.
I’ll trade – a friend gave me a Michael Moore book (which I have not had time to read either) that you can read.
I think we can “rest-our-case” on this thread .. yall have a goodn . . . . peace

I listen to KNSS news on the way to work in the morning. They advertise their daily “liberal” lineup – Boortz, Limbaigh, etc. Is this the “liberal cabal” that National Review is so upset with?
The comedians are merely reflecting reality, thou doesth complainath too much!
Here’s an idea, the right shouldn’t run and promote idiots, monsters, and bimbo’s to be the face of their movement.
“he concludes, the conservative ‘counterestablishment needs to be tended, and beefed up.’”
Do those enhancements include getting Rush off of Oxycontin?
Anyone else not even considering for purchase, much less buying, the germ’s conservative “open mind” product. PUH-Lease. . .
Or Reggie’s “liberals are the one’s who hate.”
Please return to your alternate universe and don’t let the door hit you in that place behind your lap. :)
After being the most divisive and hate spewing movement for the last two decades why are they crying about being picked on now?
It’s because CONs don’t understand funny.
The key to comedy is incongruity. It’s called a “punch” line, not a “tell me to think what I already think and sing “Barack the Magic Negro” and think it’s clever.
One of the reasons I embraced Obama’s candidacy was that rare moment he revealed his core feelings unfettered by traditional niceties (e.g., “…my respected colleague, the gentlewoman from Montana….”) when he said, “You’re likable enough, Hillary.”
It was pretty mild but it revealed a bit of inner snark.
The jokes during the Shrub administration were easy. He was constantly setting us up for punch lines.
I predict the jokes of the Obama era will be more subtle, wry, and less Dumbya slapstick.
They’ll still upset the CONs.
But they won’t get most of the jokes.
Steven trust me I never think of you as being open minded. I think more of tunnel minded when I ever even think of you. What a waste of a good mind or what I once thought was a good mind.
Ben I could lend you my book but please find someone other that Michael Moore to trade with me. Even Obamas own surgeon general says Moore is full of it. This is one lefty I just can’t tolerate.
Who else do you have.
“okobserver” claims Michael Moore…
“…is one lefty I just can’t tolerate.
Who else do you have.”
I have a copy of Bill Maher’s “New Rules.”
You could borrow any of my Al Franken books.
I have a stack of Seymour Hersh’s “New Yorker” pieces from the last eight years.
I’m not sure I know all the software but I think I could burn you a disk of Keith Olbermann’s “Special Commentaries.”
The “one” lefty you can’t tolerate, “okobserver?”
okob – not a whole lot. I don’t tend to buy these ‘political’ books – left or right.
I see Moore and Coulter as being very similar – shrill shills of the extreme ends.
MH surprisingly I am sure to you I have read some Bill Maher. He used to be entertaining. I read the first two books Al Franken came out with also. He also used to be funny until it became all about character assasination.
Coulters books are well researched I have found. You might argue with her delivery but the content is pretty factual.
Even some on the left think Michael Moore is over the top.
“Even some on the left think Michael Moore is over the top.”
And some on the right think Coulter is over the top.
Very true Ben but I was thinking more of the people that matter in the democrat party. He made a big splash once upon a time but is barely making a ripple anymore since much of what he wrote was proved wrong.
Coulter has been debunked more than she’s been, well, “bunked.”
http://tinyurl.com/bjtun
” the people that matter in the democrat party. ”
Of course, the people that matter in the Republic Party love their extremists – Limbaugh and Coulter.
Well, like someone said, the cons just don’t do funny or compelling well.
Well not in ways that are funny or compelling to MOST people.
Cons think things like evictions and foreclosures are funny. For compelling, think a hidden dungeon where single mothers are pitted against each other to fight to the death over table scraps.
It’s just not fare that most people can appreciate. I HAVE seen them try. I watched to better try and unerstand those….people.
FOX had a “comedy” called the “Half hour news hour”. It had bits in it that I thought might be amusing to a Republican. But to me or ant other reasonable person, it was unbearably unfunny.
Cons also tried a movie called “American Carol” which was a collosal flop.
I don’t know how you make narrow minded and mean (the essence of Republicans) funny or interesting.
For compelling, think a hidden dungeon where single mothers are pitted against each other to fight to the death over table scraps.
————-
Isn’t that a new “reality” show? They wear bikinis, right?
“I don’t know how you make narrow minded and mean (the essence of Republicans) funny or interesting.”
Narrow minded and mean would capsulize your post.
“I see Moore and Coulter as being very similar”
Oh that’s not true at all. Moore is pretty accurate and well researched.
Here is how Ann Coulter does research.
She makes an assertion and then “proves” it is true with a ridiculous lexisnexis search. Watch, I’ll show you.
Ksgrm bites the heads off live puppies!*
*searched on lexisnexis “ksgrm does not bite the heads off live puppies” 0 hits.
Shortly before Moore appeared for an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer last week, the network ran a report by Dr. Sanjay Gupta that had done some fact-checking on Moore’s movie. Gupta’s report made Moore furious, leading to a contentious segment with Blitzer and a debate with Gupta on “Larry King Live” later in the week.
Gupta addressed several statistics in “Sicko” before concluding: “No matter how much Moore fudged the facts — and he did fudge some facts — there is one thing everyone can agree on: the (health care) system here should be far better.”
Interesting that Gupta said that Moore might have exagerated he was still basically correct about Health care in America.
I don’t see coulter as over the top, rather, she’s under the bottom.
Moore is pretty accurate and well researched.
Moore is pretty accurate and well researched.

I would say he is a ‘well ROUNDED’ individual, ‘STUFFED FULL’ of ideas.
Art imitates life.
“Cheney is a monster, W’s breathtakingly stupid, and Palin is the quintessential bimbo!”
Support for these claims? Missing. I’m surprised there is not an 15 letter adjective before monster to describe Cheney. that would make it more descriptive and more apt to stick. Oh well, opportunity lost.
Conclusion. Nordlinger is right.
“Cheney is a monster”
What? You need proof?
The man shoots hundreds of birds at a time. These are caged birds that are let loose right in front of him so he can blast them out of the sky. AND he shot his friend in the face in the process.
I know the threshold for what a con calls a monster is ….different. But come on!

Perhaps you can enlighten me since you have more familiarity.

. . .and those leftist ones you seem so familiar with would be????? You seem to want to characterize what you know, so names would be informative.
But saying you’re not familiar with the three right-wing pundits is a bit disingenuous, don’t you think? Or is it just your opinion in general you’re foisting off? No room in your inn, huh.
What is truly bizzare although not unexpected is the Reich-wing call itself the “counter-establishment.”
The left is the “establishment”?!
We had two million people marching in the streets before Bush invaded Iraq, and you never saw a single shot of it on TV.
It’s like when Big Oil and Big Coal complain about the “Global Warming” Special Interests.
Yeah, those damn wind power lobbyists! Curse you, small car owners and your money grubbing cabal!
It was the so-called “establishment” so-called “news” agencies that repeated ad nauseum and without question the reports that Al Gore “invented the internet”–which he never said.
He did lead the charge to fund it in Congress, to which the people who did invent the internet like Bennett Cerf are eternally grateful, as we all should be.
They reported over and over again the LIES that The Clintons’ vandalized and stole from the White House and Air Force One, which the “counter-establishment” reich-wing continues to repeat today.
And they’re unquestioning assumptions that everything that Bush said was true about our need to go to war with Iraq was a true disgrace.
And they’re the “establishment” that the reich wing needs to fight against?
Hardly.
I’m so glad that we beat them at their own miserable game. Boo hoo now, you set the bar this low, conservatives. We’re going to raise it.
President Bush is not stupid he is more limited in his intake of the realities of the world. Those that fit into his prospective are taken in. While those that do not fit are disregarded and ignored. He already assumes he knows so why bother with thinking it through.
Cheney is not a monster but is like Bush thinking he already knows it. Therefore if looking for the knowledge he only sees what fits the pre-conclusion. Whether it is supported by any reality or not it only is real if it supports the conclusion.
Palin was her worst enemy, now claiming it was taken as an insult against her being from Alaska. The answer to the question of what she reads revealed her as being clueless and lacking in conscious thought.
Outside of her small realm.
Now as to books and the likes, Coulter in the back of her books has a reference section. Often in the body of her work a quote is referenced only to look at the back of the book to discover her source was herself. I find her and Moore alike, distasteful and full of themselves. Ann Coulter is an odd one, she attacks and is not limited to facts and the truth. But once call on it that she seems hurt that someone would belittle her. She sees herself as like John Daily its all an act and she is not really that way. And since she does not mean it she is excused to say anything she thinks of.
Read Patrick J. Buchanan’s “where the Right went wrong” it informative and well written.

I know who they are, just don’t listen or follow them. How is that disingenuous.
It would be like me saying you are an avid reader of porn magazines, just because you walk by a store that sells them. You are aware it’s there, so you must indulge in the Porn dietary.
BlueJay, MonkeyHawk and Chas appear to be avid listeners/watchers of Fox News and those radio shows of Limbaugh etc.
You should ask them. They bring what occurred on each of these shows, much more than those on the right do.
“They decide what a person’s image is, and those images stick. ”
Well, look at the picture. Tina Fey is parodying Sarah Palin and Amy Poehler is lampooning then Senator Hillary Clinton.
They did send ups on Obama as well. President Clinton and Janet Reno were also spoofed.
I guess the difference is, it is just easier to stick a con with the parody.
Since they are generally so much more vulnerable to humor that they can’t understand?
I mean on SNL John McCain and in particular Sarah Palin may as well have said “Yup, I’m and idiot! Make fun of me!”
A lot of political humor is the smart alec against the establishment type. Republicans will always be seen as establishment, adult types. Now the libs will be too. And the bad boy smarmy comics like Jon Stewart are going to be walking on egg shells.
Political humor will probably be in short supply. Just as well.
It’s not that cons don’t get the joke, although mostly they don’t, it’s that they don’t want there to BE jokes, and especially jokes about the things they want enforced respect for. They want there to be authorities that are unquestioned, absolutes that, right or wrong are always absolute; something that provides guaranteed security in a universe where security is always an illusion. Jokes are something that threaten the authority and hence the security they crave, and therefore must be opposed by an attitude of utmost seriousity and sanctimonious submissiveness to the authority that protects them. These are in short, the very people our country rebelled against 232 years ago; monarchists.
Here’s the scoop….the party to celebrate Obama’s historic election to the presidency will be held next Friday at The Anchor in downtown Wichita (just East of Washington on Douglas). The party should start around 6:30 in the back room
To celebrate Obama’s agenda of inclusiveness and reaching across the aisle, ALL are welcome :)
Part of the rights problem is that their aren’t any funny right wing comedians
Outlander, you used humor and Jon Stewart in the same sentence. Surely a slip up?
“Alger Gore never said He invented the internet”? Oh sure throw that old lie out there. Next you will try to deny that He was the first one to use Willie Horton against Dukakis in the 88 Democratic Primaries.
Ann Coulter is a Goddess. What a looker. And so much smarter than anybody on the left. Thats what so fun about being a conservative (notice I didn’t say Republican). We have all the good looking women on our side. You lefties have who again? Oh yeah, Rosie Odonnell.
Why isn’t she married, CrapTown?

I noticed that MacPherson was having a Martin Luther King Celebration on Monday. Be sure to give us a full report on how it went, since I know you’d never miss it . . .

Uhooohoo . . . that’s some scary schtick going on there, Pedant.
I threw up a little in my mouth, dude . . .
“Thats what so fun about being a conservative (notice I didn’t say Republican). We have all the good looking women on our side.”
I WAS gonna say “name three” but then I remembered your standard was Man Coulter.
Tina Fey had to get made up ugly to play Palin.
I’d say Ann Coultergeist looks like a tranny, but that’d be an insult to the transgendered community everywhere.
The problem is that the left doesn’t WANT to hear or think about the tenets of conservatism.
For abortion, the left thinks that the conservatives just want to control women or take away a womans rights or are close minded. Nothing is further from the truth, but the left doesn’t want to believe that. The conservatives believe in personal responsibility. That women should take responsibility for their actions. Instead of using abortion as BIRTH CONTROL, how about taking some personal responsibility and use birth control or crossing your legs until you can get some birth control or uncross your legs when you are ready to have a child. It’s not like where babies come from is some type of a secret.
Illegal immigration. The left just wants to believe that we are xenophobes or racists. Again, WRONG. We are a strong believer in following the law. We look to Jack Webb in the Dragnet series. YOU want to change the law, go ahead, but for now FOLLOW the law. That is all the conservatives want is for people to follow the law. The laws of this country state that illegally entering this country is against the law, therefore the laws should be enforced.
Conservatives do NOT want these bailouts, the exact same way we did NOT want the great society of LBJ or FDR. The dems get all upset about corporations or banks getting bailouts. Well what about the TRILLIONS of dollars that have gone to people since the 1960’s in bailouts. According to the left THOSE are okay because they went for the social programs and other “entitlements” that the dems wanted. Because the conservatives believed that in the US of A, YOU determine your future, YOU determine whether you will succeed or fail, the left says that we are haters. Again, WRONG. Conservatives believe in no bailouts for anyone. YOU have the ability to fail or succeed. THAT is what is guaranteed in the Constitution.
Sorry, this should have started out with:
The problem is that the left doesn’t WANT to hear or think about the tenets of conservatism. It is easier for them to just go straight to the hate speech of deeming conservative views or values as hateful, because it doesn’t go along with their socialist way of thinking.
“Transgendered”, you mean, sexually confused.
generaston says, “Conservatives do NOT want these bailouts, the exact same way we did NOT want the great society of LBJ or FDR”.
Tell that to Bushco and his appointment Paulson, who said to members of Congress, “pass this bill or there will be martial law”.
I don’t disagree with most of what you are saying, but it’s not a left/right issue. If it was then you “conservatives” are gullible and waaay to naive to have any power. Do you not know the people you vote for?
But these Obaaama tards are the neo-gullible, the new dumb arses.
Ya’ll bask in the glory of a fallen nation, I’ll bask in this deep pool of “I told you so”.
Idjits, all.
There was NO, REPEAT NO, LET ME SAY IT AGAIN, NO, NO, NO, CONSERVATIVE IN THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

“generaston” vents his spleen –
“There was NO, REPEAT NO, LET ME SAY IT AGAIN, NO, NO, NO, CONSERVATIVE IN THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.”
Uhm…
That would mean 98% of the electorate voted against your agenda, “generaston.”
Does that tell you anything?
Ratson,
When I was young, the primary goal of the conservatives was “to keep those uppity ones of obviously inferior race, religion, class and gender in their place.” And of course to defeat the Red Menace that conspired to plant the idea that those inferiors might actually be equals. Conservatives being uh, conservative, I have no reason to believe that those are not still the true goals of conservatism.
jed, i am catching up…..as to your 1:04 post, you are an idiot
phantom, your 1:44 post, you are an idiot
i’m having a hard time catching up with all the junk from the left ……….so i’ll make it simple, you on the left KNOW you are idiots
jed, you are correct we don’t want the jokes, as such would you, maggot,bj, mom, etc, i.e. the jokes, plz go away…thx
jed, you have not grown up and for what little you know, you have been mis-lead. The left wants and, it is in their best interest for the people to stay poor and dependent on them and government. that way they will get a vote in the next election (i.e. think no on immigration reform, think housing loans when you should not have received, think welfare, etc.)
The number of the poor goes up significantly when the Repukes have control and goes down under Democrats.
Just look at poverty rates under Clinton vs. Bush.
Wichhick, you are truly a dumb ass.
No offense, just a factual observation.
Well will someone ever address Obama’s support for a group whose founder in the 1920s and 1930s was madly in love with the Nazi teachings and leaders? Will someone address how Obama has ardently supported Planned Parenthood, founded by Margaret Sanger
From a woman raised by Democrat parents and a family that lost relatives in the WWII Holocaust?
the conservative “counterestablishment needs to be tended, and beefed up.”
Actually not so much. Let the left trip all over themselves with the love affair.
Really.
Let the leftist run the country based upon SNL.
Wichick,
Slow down, take a deep breath and relax for a minute. Now the posts won’t go away if you read them at your own pace. When you try to read too fast you lose all comprehension of what you’re looking at.
