Thank God for this the best day ever.
May everyone realize today that love is the solution to every problem.
SCIENTISTS ADVOCATING WARMING ASKED NOT TO DEBATE THE ISSUE
Here indeed is what AGW sceptics are up against, especially here in New Zealand. The following is taken from a debate that was set up by the Avenues magazine of Christchurch. The debate featured Dr Gerrit van der Lingen as the AGW sceptic and Professor Bryan Storey as the AGW advocate. Their opposing arguments were then judged by a retired high court judge, Justice John Hansen, who claimed to be an unbiased observer.
In Dr van der Lingen’s argument, he made the observation that Al Gore refuses to debate the points in his film, An Inconvenient Truth. In Professor Storey’s response he said, quote:
“Our professional bodies recommend that we do not publicly engage in debates over climate change as it gives a platform for the vocal minority to express their views, often scientifically incorrect or carefully selected to distort a longer term trend. This will undoubtedly be the advice that the former US Vice President Al Gore will have received, influencing his decision not to engage in televised debates.”
If this is not totally unscientific I do not know what is. The statement unequivocally precludes discussing the issues with anybody, scientists included. It is not as if the TV people would make the mistake of putting a layman up against Gore, and even if they did, he could then be excused for refusing to debate (even though he is a layman himself). Also it makes nonsense of the judge’s claim of being unbiased, since if New Zealand scientists are told not to debate the issue, the evidence against AGW is going to go unheard by the supposedly unbiased public, to which the retired judge belongs.
At first I thought Dr Lingen’s comparison of the one-sided reporting of climate change issues with Nazi propaganda a little strong, but if peer debate about climate change is not going to be conducted, the whole issue is an attempt at a scientific whitewash by the AGW proponents.

The fruits of Republican leadership, unemployment up everywhere. The numbers are lower since the statistics aren’t determined using the 1930s measures.
Jobless rates up in every state
While some states fared better than others, December was a cruel month for many workers nationwide, and economists predict job losses will continue for the rest of this year.
All 50 states recorded an increase in the jobless rate in December and an overall spike since last year, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said Tuesday (Jan. 27). The national unemployment rate rose from 6.8 percent to 7.2 percent — compared with 4.9 percent a year ago.

Republicans should put their money where their mouths are and refuse any and all funds from the stimulus package.
Lets see who recovers quicker.
The Democratic party wanted funding for light rail projects. Use of light rail has rising dramatically during the Republican recession. Wichita was planning on a rail system to link up to Newton. However Tiahrt was opposed to the idea of bringing investment and jobs to Wichita.
MP, I hear you are shutting down your website and won’t let anyone take it over. Why give up such a good thing?
And to think, we once had a nation-wide light rail system which was the envy of the world, then we tore it up and scrapped it.
Citing Obama Opposition, McDowell Warns Against Fairness Doctrine
Reimposition Could Undermine Kids TV Regulations, Public Radio

McDowell suggested that a stealth version of the doctrine may already be teed up at the FCC in the form of community advisory boards to help determine local programming. McDowell says he is fine with those boards if they are voluntary–some stations already seek such input. But that if they are required, as the FCC has proposed, “Would not such a policy be akin to re-imposition of the Doctrine, albeit under a different name and sales pitch?”
McDowell also said that efforts to reimpose the doctrine could stretch to cable, satellite, and even the Internet. “Certain legal commentators have suggested that a new corollary of the Doctrine should be fashioned for the Internet, on the theory that web surfers should be exposed to topics and views that they have not chosen for themselves,” adding: “I am not making this up.”
“And to think, we once had a nation-wide light rail system which was the envy of the world, then we tore it up and scrapped it.”
But they make such wonderful walking paths!!

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — For the war-beaten orphans of the northern Iraqi city of Tikrit, this big old shoe fits.
A monument to a shoe thrown at former President Bush is unveiled at the Tikrit Orphanage complex.
A huge sculpture of the footwear hurled at President Bush in December during a trip to Iraq has been unveiled in a ceremony at the Tikrit Orphanage complex.
Assisted by children at the home, sculptor Laith al-Amiri erected a brown replica of one of the shoes hurled at Bush and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki by journalist Muntadhir al-Zaidi during a press conference in Baghdad.
Al-Zaidi was jailed for his actions, and a trial is pending. But his angry gesture touched a defiant nerve throughout the Arab and Muslim world. He is regarded by many people as a hero. Demonstrators in December took to the streets in the Arab world and called for his release.
The shoe monument, made of fiberglass and coated with copper, consists of the shoe and a concrete base. The entire monument is 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) high. The shoe is 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) long and 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) wide.
The orphans helped al-Amiri build the $5,000 structure — unveiled Tuesday — in 15 days, said Faten Abdulqader al-Naseri, the orphanage director.
For those supporting the 1.2 trillion spending bill, can you please outline which parts would actually stimulate the economy?
There may be one or two republican senators that get peeled away and vote for it. They will be voting to give their constituents a piece of the massive idiotic spending. They will vote in hopes of getting elected as opposed to what is right for their state and their country.
How many Democrats will oppose the massive unfunded spending?
They will vote in hopes of getting reelected
Duh, they are already elected. And the typos start early today…
I agree ks. should just reject any fed. spending, after all they think it’ll just prolong the downturn.
We’re still enjoying the bush legacy, gdp’s biggest drop in decades, while oil co. had one of their best yrs. (could there be a relationship?)
And, financial co. had their 6th best yr. for bonuses. We’ve got to compensate them well or those that made the fubar will move on to better paying jobs!

Phantom, I will give you the benefit of doubt. Have you read what this money is going for?
All politicians of all political persuasion seem to think most about keeping their jobs. Not really too much different that the rest of us, but their efforts are in the public eye since they are at the mercy of the public who decide whether they keep the job or not. How many of that “public” are well informed? How long is the memory of that “pubic?”
Further, WHO KNOWS for absolutely sure what will work best to end this recession sooner, leave America healthier? Even if there is someone(s) who knows, there are an equal number who think they’re wrong. Which crystal ball will be more accurate? Do YOU know, for sure?
This comment might tell us something about how the voting on the stimulus package will go — no matter whether it is the right or wrong solution.
“…if the recession is still going strong in the Fall of 2010, Republicans will say “Democrats threw your hard-earned tax dollars down the toilet. Time to get rid of them.” But this is a huge gamble for the Republicans. This recession has already been going on for a year and they rarely last three years. Even if the recession is not technically over, but jobs are no longer being shed and houses are no longer being foreclosed it will be a lot easier for Democrats to claim it was their leadership that improved the economy. What can the Republicans say? It was their courageous no votes against bills that passed anyway that saved the economy?”

On the contrary, I have never felt so empowered as I do since Obama entered Al Gore’s house.
It was the BushCONs who constantly told us to “be afraid, be very afraid” . . . orange alerts!!! and buy plastic and duct tape now!!! and “thanks to us torturing people and spying on you, you are safe.”
Even if more attention was paid to Peter Schiff (an adviser to Ron Paul), would it have made a difference? Would Americans sit by idly, calmly, with great understanding (not to mention great hunger, lack of shelter…) and patience while everything fell apart so we could start all over?

Partially subsidized COBRA coverage.
Helps those laid off, but not the economy.
COBRA extension for older workers.
Same as above.
Job Creation.
* Construction.
Short term. Nothing lasting. So maybe a small spike, but nothing lasting.
* Education.
Again, this is short term and extremely targeted to specific jobs.
*Public service.
Reads more like equipment purchases. Again extremely targeted.
*Green jobs.
This requires spending by businesses. With the new taxes (Bush’s tax cuts expiring) I doubt many businesses will be upgrading. This is, though, the first long term item I’ve seen.
****************************************
There were no dollar figures for the COBRA spending. The other listed spending will consume 130.1 billion. One eight of the spending bill and not much stimulus.
One of Obama’s key complaints with the Patriot act was the speed with which it passed. There was not enough time devoted to actually thinking about the impact. Same with this spending bill. We are lashing our great grandchildren to this debt and will have not much to show for it.
Why don’t we slow down and really consider the problem and possible solutions before knee jerk throwing 1.2 trillion at the problem.

1 Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry.
2 But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.
3 The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.
4 The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife.
5 Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
6 I say this as a concession, not as a command.
7 I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.

Good morning Capn.!
I appreciate that you bring us a verse each day! I think I’ll use it as a way to educate a little on the Bible in general.
I use to do Bible study with a Baptist Minsiter that said many people use Bible verses like arrows in a quiver. They always have a few favorite that they use to shoot into the heart of true believers.
You are a perfect example of one that uses Bible verses out of context to make some obtuse point or another.
Pauls first epistle to the Corinthians was written a approximately three years after Paul had established the church there. He felt they had strayed a little and the purpose of the letter was to get them back on track.
This letter to the Corinthinians is one of my favorites and it contains some of my favorite scriptures. It should be read completely and in the context of it’s original purpose.
The great depression of 1930. The government tried to spend their way out of it, just as we are today. Ten years later the country was still in shambles. Were it not for the US getting involved in WWII, there is no telling how long it would have lasted.
Why can’t we learn from that mistake? This is a business cycle. You can not control it. Attempting to do so will only lengthen, not lessen, the pain. Get it over with. Let the market correct itself – read letting those “too big to fail” fail. Those that invested wisely will be rewarded with survival. Those companies that invested riskily will be punished by being acquired or vanishing.
Attempting to curtail this downturn is like trying to keep the sun from setting tonight. Futile at best.
“On the contrary, I have never felt so empowered as I do since Obama entered Al Gore’s house.”
Pitiful. It takes a president to make the Libs feel empowered. Bed wetters.

It’s a compilation made of several times Mr. Schiff was one of several so-called financial experts interviewed over a period of about a year and he was the lone dissenter from all other experts — he was laughed at each time. Today, what he said then makes his crystal ball very accurate, and all others very wrong!

“…This consensus, which generally favoured the market over the state, “light-touch” regulation of financial services and the free flow of goods and capital across borders, is somewhere between on the defensive and in full, not always organised retreat.
What is a lot less clear is what might replace it.
It’s true that the global economic crisis and the debt bubble that preceded it did not deliver on much of the promises made by defenders of globalisation and market forces. Instead it was one of the biggest misallocation of resources in history; to housing and consumption that either wasn’t needed or really couldn’t be afforded.”

Wish Charles Darwin a Happy Birthday
Charles Darwin was born on 12 February 1809 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. In celebration of his 200th birthday, Shropshire Tourism has created a web site that enables people from all over the world to wish him a happy birthday. The map showing those birthday wishes is well worth looking at. Additionally, there’s a great deal of useful information about Darwin on the web page. The URL for the web site is http://www.discoverdarwin.co.uk/happy-birthday/, look around and share your birthday wishes with the world.

Of course, there are people who will bleat about how Darwin was wrong about some of his observations, and therefore the theory of evilution is in tatters, because we evilutionists worship Darwin, and our theory is not based on 100 years of scientific rigor, but squarely on Darwin.

cosmos
sciencefaith revolves around cryptic black box algorithms and sending in a politician to deliver a science briefing. Now there issciencefaith for you !!!““The Bible tells me so”
If there’s one thing that most strikingly distinguishes conservatives – one large faction of them, at least – from progressives and liberals, it’s their urge to root both science and social policy in the authority of Holy Scripture. And here, more than anywhere else, we see present efforts that should be discredited by a long string of historic failures. No one today, for instance, even in the deepest depths of the Christian right, doubts that there are people living in Australia. And yet Christians of earlier times called it “senseless folly,” not to mention heresy, to suppose that anyone could live with their feet above their heads on the other side of the earth, or even that it had another side. The Bible, after all, was quite clear on this, speaking in several places of “the four corners of the earth” with the heavens stretched above “as a curtain.”
Confronted with such passages, today’s so-called biblical literalists explain that they’re just poetic images and not to be taken literally. But that would have been news to the people who wrote them down, as well as to the Bible’s most careful and pious interpreters in earlier ages. Leading scholars and “Church Fathers” like St. Augustine were just as certain that the Bible ruled out the existence of Australia as today’s conservative Christians are certain that it rules out evolution. And the consequences of thinking otherwise, they believed, were just as dire; to imagine that people inhabit another hemisphere would do as much moral and spiritual harm as imagining them related to apes. For how, then, could the Gospel be preached “to the ends of the world,” as God demanded? Doubting the plain meaning of Scripture on one point means doubting it on everything, right? And this amounts to abandoning God.”

As the job situation continues to tighen folks are going to be asking why we have all the illegals in this country taking jobs.
HOOVER, TRUMAN AND EISENHOWER
Here is something that should be of great interest
for you to pass around.
I didn’t know of this until it was pointed out to me.
Back during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover
ordered the deportation of ALL illegal aliens
in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work.
Harry Truman deported over two million Illegal’s after WWII to create jobs for returning veterans.
And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican nationals!
The program was called ‘Operation Wet Back’
so that American WWII and Korean veterans
had a better chance at jobs.
It took 2 Years, but they deported them!
Now, if they could deport the illegal’s back then,
they can sure do it today!!
I if you have doubts about the veracity of this information, enter Operation Wet Back (as one word) into your favorite search engine
and confirm it for yourself.
Reminder.
Don’t forget to pay your taxes…
12 million+ Illegal Aliens are depending on you.
Hey, heard a story on this this morning. Janet –??? Forgot her name, is initiating a program to deport all illegal immigrants after their jail sentence. If I’m not mistaken this is an Obama appointee. Granted I caught most of this while getting ready for work, so I don’t have any of the hard facts.
Bully for her anyway.
Thanks Tara… I agree with you… Not sure if laughing at flat earthers is Christian Bashing… I guess maybe, IF the flat earthers claim Jesus told them the earth is flat….
Ya know, I think we should just be concerned about climate change… instead of getting bogged down in who/what is responsible… I also think that the stewardship of creation is important, regardless of what direction climate change goes…
Protection of the environment where we live is of paramount importance… Look how much difference has been made in the smog problems in California, and in Pittsburgh, and Cleveland, and Detroit… and anywhere else that used to be covered in soot, and coal dust…. Pittsburgh is a really great place to visit since the clean-up of the rivers, and the smog… compared to when I spent summers there as a kid…. And the clean up in Lake Erie is fantastic, since they took seriously the huge amounts of pollution, and other crap in the water…
These are things that anybody should be FOR… regardless of who/what is responsible for whatever climate changes we may encounter… I’m sure those folks in Alaska arent terribly worried right now about WHO/WHAT is making that volcano rumble and roar… They ARE concerned with survival….
Of course, on every Darwin day, it’s important to also remember Alfred Russel Wallace.
Because, seriously, wouldn’t you be just PEEVED if you got beaten to the punch like that?
And then everyone celebrated your scoper’s birthday for years and years afterward?
Oooh, there was probably all of this delicious drama and hissy fits that the history books don’t tell use about.
Darwin would be most upset if he thought anybody would be worshipping him… I mean, after all, Darwin was a believing Christian in his life time… Darwin worshipped GOD…
I like this guy. He makes you think.
Perhaps the most solemn conceptions that
have caused the most fighting and suffering, the
conceptions ‘God’ and ‘sin,’ will one day seem to us of no more importance than a child’s plaything or a child’s pain seems to an old man;— and perhaps another plaything and another pain will then be necessary once more for ‘the old
man’—always childish enough, an eternal child!
It is the profound, suspicious fear of an
incurable pessimism which compels whole centuries to fasten their teeth into a religious interpretation of existence: the fear of the instinct which divines that truth might be attained TOO soon, before man has become
strong enough, hard enough, artist enough…. Piety, the ‘Life in God,’ regarded in this light, would appear as the most elaborate and ultimate product of the FEAR of truth, as artist-adoration and artist- intoxication in presence of the most logical of all falsifications, as the will to the
inversion of truth, to untruth at any price.

Dunno if he ever climbed out of that hole.

Actually, the basics of the AGW theory are based on fairly simple calculations that can be done by hand.
Arrhenius published the first calculations in 1896.

Awwwww. cosmos’ faith has failed her again. She can’t answer three very easy questions and has to resort to the fudged numbers resulting from the root of the first two questions.
cosmos also can not refute that climate change is caused by natural occurrences.
Cosmos,
Here is a question for you.
How many tons of natural GHG’s does nature produce each year.
What is the margin of error on those numbers?
Now, how many tons of GHG’s are estimated to be released by man?
When you see that the margin of error on natural emmisions is greater than what man is accused of emitting… does it make you wonder?
SolDevVB cannot refute the fact that anthropogenic GHG’s have caused, and are causing long-term warming.
Facts, by definition, can be proven.
Prove it.
Nathaniel,
Does it make you wonder when you realize that CO2 levels have risen sharply due to humans burning huge amounts of fossil fuels, and land-use changes?
Or does it create an uncontrollable urge to read bogus AGW denials written by Dennis Avery, Steven Milloy, et al?

Well I think Obama’s salary is too high. It should be cut in half!!!
Seriously, Bush and democrat company blew it for freedom in America when they nationalized the banks. Now, government will decide how much every American can make. Government will set the standard and from there it can only go downhill.
Those poor ignorant people deplore the evil sinful salaries of the CEO’s. And they would have had no standing had it not been for the American taxpayers buying the banks. There was no reason for government to intefer with private businesses paying whatever salary the market would stand.

The company won’t say how many people were let go locally, but Clear Channel Communications Inc. has cut nearly 9 percent of its work force nationwide.
Clear Channel gave pink slips to 1,850 workers at its corporate offices as well as both its radio and outdoor advertising divisions, according to a memo from chief executive officer Mark Mays. Clear Channel, based in San Antonio, Texas, employs about 20,000 people in radio, television and outdoor advertising,
Most of the cuts were in the sales department, but ultimately all operations were affected, Mays said.
Local reports have named one of the local employees let go as Gabe Hobbs, a 25-year executive with Clear Channel, who is credited for discovering national talent like Fox News Channel’s Glenn Beck, who got his talk radio start at WFLA-AM.
The layoffs were first reported last week by New York newspapers, which said they would coincide with the inauguration of Barack Obama. The cuts are expected to shed about $400 million in costs as well as provide a more national approach to its operations, limiting staffing at local levels.
A way,
I don’t want the fairness doctrine. I want you guys to scream your message from every rooftop in America.

Dear Hank,
Thank you for the pdf link in your 6:08 am copy/paste. It has a good collection of the stupid, obvious falsehoods you AGW deniers believe.
Little news flash regarding the Limbaugh show, his pay and the Clear Channel layoffs.
Limbaugh is on the air in over 600 markets. His $400,000,000 contract is for 8 years.
This equates to roughly $60,000 per market he is on in or $7,500 per year. Obviously larger markets are going to pay more of the freight.
But $7,500 a year for what is most likely your #1 rated show or “talent”. That’s a bargain in the media business and why most radio is syndicated these days.
How much do you think Anita Cochran or someone in a lead chair in our market make per year? A hell of a lot more.
You’re surely welcome, cosmos!
Is it getting colder in your world too?
Fondly,
Hank

‘New Study Shows Climate Change Largely Irreversible‘
http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2009/20090126_climate.html
“. . .
If CO2 is allowed to peak at 450-600 parts per million, the results would include persistent decreases in dry-season rainfall that are comparable to the 1930s North American Dust Bowl in zones including southern Europe, northern Africa, southwestern North America, southern Africa and western Australia.
The study notes that decreases in rainfall that last not just for a few decades but over centuries are expected to have a range of impacts that differ by region. Such regional impacts include decreasing human water supplies, increased fire frequency, ecosystem change and expanded deserts. Dry-season wheat and maize agriculture in regions of rain-fed farming, such as Africa, would also be affected.
Climate impacts were less severe at lower peak levels. But at all levels added carbon dioxide and its climate effects linger because of the ocean.”
cosmo, can’t you read? Or are you a denier?
What part of “largely irreversible” do you not get?

Union officials say the new orders by Obama will undo Bush administration policies that favored employers over workers. The orders will:
_Require federal contractors to offer jobs to current workers when contracts change.
_Reverse a Bush administration order requiring federal contractors to post notice that workers can limit financial support of unions serving as their exclusive bargaining representatives.
_Prevent federal contractors from being reimbursed for expenses meant to influence workers deciding whether to form a union and engage in collective bargaining.
A new sheriff is in town. Get used to it.
“We need to level the playing field for workers and the unions that represent their interests,” Obama said during a signing ceremony in the East Room of the White House.

Steele, the first African-American to hold the post, defeated South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson, 91-77, in the final round of voting among the RNC’s 168 members. Only 86 votes were needed.
“This is our opportunity. I cannot do this by myself,” he told the crowd at the annual RNC meeting Friday. “God bless you, and God bless our party. … It’s going to be a new day.”
Steele also told his fellow party members that it will be a “great honor to spar” with President Obama.
For the duration of his campaign, Steele fought perceptions that he was too moderate to lead the party because of his blue-state roots and his former membership in the Republican Leadership Council, a group that sought to curb the influence of social conservatives in the party.
“For so long, we’ve allowed the Democrats to define us, we’ve allowed the media to define us, and so it’s important for us to begin to establish with clarity who we are, what we believe as we begin to go out and take, I think, a brand new message to the American people,” he said Friday.

GOP Fliers Apparently Were Part Of Strategy
Md. Tactics Similar To Ones in 2002
By Matthew Mosk and Avis Thomas-Lester
Washington Post Staff Writers

The six Trailways motorcoaches draped in Ehrlich and Steele campaign banners rumbled down Interstate 95 just before dawn on Election Day.
On board, 300 mostly poor African Americans from Philadelphia ate doughnuts, sipped coffee and prepared to spend the day at the Maryland polls. After an early morning greeting from Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.’s wife, Kendel, they would fan out in white vans across Prince George’s County and inner-city Baltimore, armed with thousands of fliers that appeared to be designed to trick black Democrats into voting for the two Republican candidates.
Republicans bused in workers to pass out “Democratic Sample Ballots,” which included Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. and Michael S. Steele. (Associated Press)

2006 Elections
The glossy fliers bore photos of black Democratic leaders on the front. Under the headline “Democratic Sample Ballot” were boxes checked in red for Ehrlich and Senate candidate Michael S. Steele, who were not identified as Republicans. Their names were followed by a long list of local Democratic candidates.
Nearly a week later, a fuller picture has emerged about how the plan to capture blacks’ votes unfolded — details that suggest the fliers, and the people paid to distribute them, were not part of a hurry-up effort but a calculated strategy.
The Republicans must be REALLY scared to let a Negro into their all-white, all-male club.

You haven’t heard?
Pelosi says the Crats are in charge now.
“Reverse a Bush administration order requiring federal contractors to post notice that Reverse a Bush administration order requiring federal contractors to post notice that workers can limit financial support of unions serving as their exclusive bargaining representatives.
I don’t get this one.
Contractors don’t have to post the notice, but, is it still true that “workers can limit financial support of unions serving as their exclusive bargaining representatives.”??
Are they limiting information to the workers?
“The American part dummy”
That’s not what it said.
Russell Tice has laid out how the NSA captured electronic communications of law-abiding Americans.
“The National Security Agency had access to all Americans’ communications — faxes, phone calls, and their computer communications,” Tice claimed. “It didn’t matter whether you were in Kansas, in the middle of the country, and you never made foreign communications at all. They monitored all communications.”
The Fourth Amendment prohibits these unreasonable searches.
The Second Amendment isn’t the only one in the Bill of Rights, you know….
Funny thing about secret wiretapping, it’s mostly secret. When the dust clears on the economy, we can investigate how the laws were broken and we’ll know more.
As to tossing off human rights abuses by a “were you personally abused” ruse… no, I was not waterboarded. But I was not gassed in Polish concentration camp either, but I don’t give the the Nazi regime a pass on genocide…
We (me, you, all of us) are signatories to treaties obligating us to investigate and prosecute torture. And one way or another, someone is going to held to account for breaking the law…

Wake up Mr. Naive.
I don’t think I’m giving anything away here, but intelligence and the U.S. have had the ability to listen in on civilian communications for about 35 years. And, they have done so – unofficially speaking of course. :)
Again, point out what constitutional and human rights that have been violated for you or someone you know. How about a distant relative? A casual acquaintance. A neighbor from 30 years ago?
The isolated cases where constitutional rights were violated, the accused was well compensated and the courts reversed the government.
Now, other than whining in the usual nasal Lib manner, what else you got?
Sure, wipe the toilet with the flag and claim you are being patriotic….

That should read “advisor to Obama”
Since the GOP has selected a Black man to be the head of the RNC, will Rush now dust off his favorite recording, and change the words slightly, and play “Steele the Magic Negro” for oh, say, three or four months??
LOL — I highly doubt it…
The neighbohood stabilization part of the Stimulus plan, turns out to be all about those people in danger of having their mortgages foreclosed on — NOT funding for the ACORN organization, that does nothing in the way of assisting mortgage foreclosure folks… See the MSNBC website, for Countdown… Worst Persons segment for tonight..
Ah but Chas, you forgot the long tennacles of A.C.O.R.N. They have a mortgage/Housing unit as well.
ACORN Housing Corporation (AHC)
The ACORN/AHC version of consumer
advocacy has consisted of a three-decade assault on free enterprise and a history of extracting resources from financial lenders seeking abatement of ACORN’s public relations assaults. Specifically, this report examines ACORN’s
impact on the housing problem. Documents provided by internal whistleblowers, cross-checked with public records and recorded events, expose hypocritical lending recommendations tied to ACORN Housing Corporation’s
• ACORN leveraged the Community Reinvestment Act in order to attack lenders’ reputations and secure financial resources for itself;
it has also endorsed loans offered by companies that fund ACORN operations
• ACORN’s decades of lobbying and publicity seeking have contributed to the current housing crisis by lowering lending standards
• Despite raking in a troubling 40 percent of its revenue from taxpayers over the last three years, ACORN Housing Corporation’s actions
range from controversial to borderline illegal:
• AHC has worked to obtain mortgages for undocumented workers
• AHC relies on undocumented income, “under the table” money that may not be reported to the Internal Revenue Service
• ACORN’s “financial justice” operations attack lenders for “exotic” loans, but AHC has recommended ten-year interest-only
loans (which deny equity to the buyer) and reverse mortgages (which can be detrimental to senior citizens)
• AHC may have violated federal law by failing to maintain a proper distinction between its tax-exempt housing work and
the aggressive political activities of ACORN
Given this record, Congressional appropriators and administration officials should investigate ongoing and future grants to ACORN Housing Corporation.
Here’s a talking point in the green jobs debate: The wind industry now employs more people than coal mining in the United States.
Wind industry jobs jumped to 85,000 in 2008, a 70% increase from the previous year, according to a report released Tuesday from the American Wind Energy Association. In contrast, the coal industry employs about 81,000 workers. (Those figures are from a 2007 U.S. Department of Energy report but coal employment has remained steady in recent years though it’s down by nearly 50% since 1986.) Wind industry employment includes 13,000 manufacturing jobs concentrated in regions of the country hard hit by the deindustrialization of the past two decades.
The big spike in wind jobs was a result of a record-setting 50% increase in installed wind capacity, with 8,358 megawatts coming online in 2008 (enough to power some 2 million homes). That’s a third of the nation’s total 25,170 megawatts of wind power generation. Wind farms generating more than 4,000 megawatts of electricity were completed in the last three months of 2008 alone.

James… take it up with MNBC… ACORN isnt listed in the Stimulus package anywhere… I seriously doubt ACORN would qualify for the type of program that the neighborhood stabilization portion of the Stimulus package lays out… That portion is not for the purpose of securing loans… But, for assisting those who are at risk of LOSING their mortgages…
As far as I can tell, anybody who would try to get a reverse mortgage, has to be half nuts anyway… And as I understand it, in order to get an interet only loan, one has to have a very high credit rating… which would not be the case for undocumented individuals…
IF ACORN managed to secure mortgages for illegal aliens, then ACORN should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Heehee the Bush White House staff were running Microsoft Office 2003… that figures somehow… somehow that is so right….

Massive voter fraud?? Got that one wrong, too, didn’t they?
No ideas, no leadership, no followers, no successes to show for eight years of presidential power…
In fact, so far, “No” is all they got. But they will vote for the Recovery Plan after having voted against it and claim “Mission Accomplished.”

Interesting to see Michael Stephen Steele accepting the chair of the Republican National Committee. He was one quarter of the non-caucasian population of the room, as far as I could see… Like the last convention… plant a few minorities on the podium as stage dressing…
Perhaps some fresh blood in the RNC will help them get real and look at some of the issues we really need to confront as united Americans…
I too am glad to see Michael Steele one, as it were, as a big underdog for RNC chair.
Tomorrow, or Monday at the latest will come the “token black”, “Uncle Tom” comments from the “real” blacks on the left as well as the usual self hating, guilt ridden white liberals. Hope I’m wrong about that, but just wait.
Who was the last black to act as DNC chair?
Anyone?
Have the Prices taken James McCluer to lunch yet?
Some how, I’m betting they have not. He doesn’t eat much for lunch. What excuses do the Prices’ have for their less than generous response?
The blog readers would like to know…
Though I am kind of busy with tax stuff and other work, I’ll take you to lunch James, on me; where-ever you want.
I was just watching a rather interesting report on the news.
When we invaded Iraq, we removed a regime that if nothing else, kept a lid on the sectarian violence. With the lid removed, the violence escalated, as we all know. At the same time, we ushered in the beginnings of a democracy there. Now, it appears, a substantial backlash is brewing among the people, directed pretty much equally at all the religious factions, and the biggest benificiary of that backlash seems to be the Iraqi Communist Party! Now whooda thunk that George Bush of all people would be the instigator of a communist revolution in Iraq? The irony is staggering!

Of course many of those mass graves were filled under the watchful eye of bush 1, so maby they shouldn’t count.

As I read the figures, we now hold the Dead Iraqi record.

Facebook seemed to be relatively free of abhorent sexual behavior used by some practitioners of social networks, including MySpace. However, that changed when an 18-year-old man from outside Milwaukee was charged with posing as a younger woman in order to solicit nude photos of his male classmates and then coercing them to perform sexual acts.

Amid an escalating debate over just how kid-safe social-networking sites are, Texas authorities on Wednesday announced the arrest of a sex offender accused of using MySpace in violation of his parole. Jesse Clay Scott, 33, of Seguin, Texas, is just the latest of about 30 convicted sex offenders arrested to date by the Texas Attorney General’s Fugitive and Cyber Crimes units for allegedly accessing MySpace in violation of parole conditions.
