Although there is plenty of new evidence supporting the irrefutable fact of evolution I thought I’d skip it in favor of this. Apparently China has a product that America will not be importing anytime soon, universal health care. China grew it’s wealth on things conservatives hate, a strong manufacturing base, tariffs, and investment in the nation’s infrastructure. Now they have gone further than America and have plans for universal health care. America fell behind thanks to unelected President Bush.
China Takes A Stab At Universal Health Care
Beijing proposes spending $124 billion to subsidize basic medical coverage and overhaul hospitals.
The Chinese government is hoping that if the country’s social safety net is stronger, its people will feel secure enough to spend more, which is badly needed to help offset the global demand slump. Beijing wants to expand basic health coverage to most of the population by 2011 and it is willing to spend the billions needed to do so. Leaders are betting that the ambitious program will help stave off social unrest, as the country slows to its weakest pace of growth in seven years.

MORE BOOS THAN BALLS
by Ann Coulter
January 21, 2009
It will not be easy for President B. Hussein Obama. More than half the country voted for him, and yet our newspapers are brimming with snippy remarks at every little aspect of his inauguration.
Here’s a small sampling of the churlishness in just The New York Times:
– The American public is bemused by the tasteless show-biz extravaganza surrounding Barack Obama’s inauguration today.
– There is something to be said for some showiness in an inauguration. But one felt discomfited all the same.
– This is an inauguration, not a coronation.
– Is there a parallel between Mrs. Obama’s jewel-toned outfit and somebody else’s glass slippers? Why limousines and not shank’s mare?
It is still unclear whether we are supposed to shout “Whoopee!” or “Shame!” about the new elegance the Obamas are bringing to Washington.
Boy, talk about raining on somebody’s parade! These were not, of course, comments about the inauguration of the angel Obama; they are (slightly edited) comments about the inauguration of another historic president, Ronald Reagan, in January 1981.
Obama’s inaugural address tracked much of Reagan’s first inaugural address — minus the substance — the main difference being that Obama did not invoke God as stoutly or frequently, restricting his heavenly references to a few liberal focus-grouped phrases, such as “God-given” and “God’s grace.”
Obama was also not as fulsome in his praise of his predecessor as Reagan was. To appreciate how remarkable this is, recall that Reagan’s predecessor was Jimmy Carter.
Under Carter, more than 50 Americans were held hostage by a two-bit terrorist Iranian regime for 444 days — released the day of Reagan’s inauguration. Under Bush, there has not been another terrorist attack since Sept. 11, 2001.
But I gather that if Obama had uttered anything more than the briefest allusion to Bush, that would have provoked yet more booing from the Hope-and-Change crowd, which moments earlier had showered Bush with boos when he walked onto the stage. That must be the new tone we’ve been hearing so much about.
So maybe liberals can stop acting as if the entire nation could at last come together in a “unity of purpose” if only conservatives would stop fomenting “conflict and discord” — as Obama suggested in his inaugural address. We’re not the ones who booed a departing president.
It is a liberal trope to insult conservatives by asking them meaningless questions, such as the one repeatedly asked of Bush throughout his presidency about whether he had made any mistakes. All humans make mistakes — what is the point of that question other than to give insult?
When will the first reporter ask President Obama to admit that he has made mistakes? Try: Never.
No, that question will disappear for the next four years. It will be replaced by the new question for conservatives on every liberal’s lips these days: Do you want Obama to succeed as president?
Answer: Of course we do. We live here, too.
But merely to ask the question is to imply that the 60 million Americans who did not vote for Obama are being unpatriotic if they do not wholeheartedly endorse his liberal agenda.
I guess it depends on the meaning of “succeed.” If Obama “succeeds” in pushing through big-government, terrorist-appeasing policies, he will not have “succeeded” at being a good president. If we didn’t think conservative principles of small government and strong national defense weren’t better for the country, we wouldn’t be conservatives.
And why was that question never asked of liberals producing assassination books and movies about President Bush for the last eight years?
Say, did liberals want Pastor Rick Warren to succeed delivering a meaningful invocation at the inaugural?
The way I remember it, the Hope-and-Change crowd viciously denounced the Christian pastor, stamped their feet and demanded that Obama withdraw the invitation — all because Rick Warren agrees with Obama’s stated position on gay marriage, which also happens to be the position of a vast majority of Americans every time they have been allowed to vote on the matter.
Liberals always have to play the victim, acting as if they merely want to bring the nation together in hope and unity in the face of petulant, stick-in-the-mud conservatives. Meanwhile, they are the ones booing, heckling and publicly fantasizing about the assassination of those who disagree with them on policy matters.
Hope and unity, apparently, can only be achieved if conservatives would just go away — and perhaps have the decency to kill themselves.
Republicans are not the ones who need to be told that “the time has come to set aside childish things” — as Obama said of his own assumption of the presidency. Remember? We’re the ones who managed to gaze upon Carter at the conclusion of his abomination of a presidency without booing.

No one implied conservatives are not ‘patriotic’
Conservatives had their shot the past eight years.. see where we are now…
Rick Warren was invited to give the invocation, what’s the problem?
Conservatives should kill themselves? What a morbid thought.. wtf did that come from?
And this “wanting Obama to fail” business.. who would be stupid enough to suggest such a thing? (Oh .. yeah… that radio comedian guy) Liberals certainly never wanted Bush to fail in his stated goals to unite the country, improve the economy, end terrorism – he just – um – failed…
Silly article.

What a hateful, mean spitirted person! Why would anyone with a rational mind pay any attention to her at all? I guess it’s why Jerry Springer is the #1 show on TV…basic human nature draws us to anger and drama.

“Why would anyone with a rational mind pay any attention to her at all”
Because she hits liberals where they live. And she does it in a rather nasty style. One that liberals are very familiar with. They invented that style.
With McCain supporters wishing President Obama well, and even warming to his approach to leadership and admiring his appointees… these bile-mongers are probably worried for their livelihoods…
DavidB says-
“Liberals certainly never wanted Bush to fail ”
Perhaps you forget the memo James Carville sent out to the left about 3 weeks after 9-11 when Bush’s approval rating were pushing 90 percent. The memo that said that Bush had to be destroyed if the Democrats hoped to make any gains in the 2002 and 2004 elections.

Best observation of Coulter I’ve seen yet. :)
I don’t think so….she doesn’t describe me at all in her rant. Why is it that you are so eager to accept generalizations and stereotyping? And what is her agenda? Does she really hate her country so much that she wants our new president to fail?
BTW, it’s her and her ilk who have perfected the art of hate speech. Who can forget how she bashed the 9/11 widows? In my mind people like her are nothing but evil.

No one said she was angelic.
Heckler just described her as she is and that is, she uses the same style the left do and it sticks in their gullet.

Bush didn’t need anyone to help him fail..he did that all on his own. I don’t think the Democrats forced him to make all those really, really bad decisions.

No, you’d have to come up with a few examples for me to believe she’s no worse than any liberal pundit. She defines hatred and that’s not something anyone should admire. It’s those like her that have divided our country and made hatred an American value.
Thanks But No Thanks
Hendrik Hertzberg
The second sentence of Obama’s speech:
I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.
Unfortunately, saying something nice about the outgoing President at the outset of an Inaugural now seems as inescapable as ordering God to bless America at the end.
Jimmy Carter was the first to do it, and it made sense: Gerald Ford actually did do his bit “to heal our land,” post-Watergate. Besides, unlike every other President of the twentieth century, poor Ford never got to have an Inauguration or give an Inaugural Address of his own. Carter’s gesture was an entirely appropriate consolation. But the genie was out of the bottle.
Four years later, Reagan thanked Carter, though not by name, for “maintaining the continuity which is the bulwark of our Republic,” which was gracious, if a little condescending. Bush the First gushed over Reagan (“I thank you for the wonderful things that you have done for America”), which was the least he could do.
Clinton said: “On behalf of our nation, I salute my predecessor, President Bush, for his half-century of service to America.” That made sense, I guess, given Bush Senior’s long and mostly honorable record as a Naval aviator and federal official. Also, it set up Clinton’s theme of generational change.
Bush Junior thanked both Clinton (“for his service to our nation”) and Gore (“for a contest conducted with spirit and ended with grace”). But given that Republicans had impeached the former and staged a judicial coup d’état to steal the election from the latter, it was a trifle jarring. And it hardly made up for the total lack of any acknowledgement that the circumstances of Bush’s “victory” were, shall we say, unusual.
I understand why Obama made nice—bipartisanship, civility, and all that. But he did the minimum, and, I notice, he used exactly the same words—”his service to our nation”—that Bush had used in thanking Clinton. Might there be a barb there? A very small, very mild, very nuanced hint of Obamian malice? One can only hope so.
Lucky Lincoln. When he succeeded the second worst President in our history, he wasn’t expected to say, “I thank President Buchanan for his service to our nation.”
“This whole blogs a waste of time DB…duh”
Unfortunatly you’re right. The Republicans are so angry about the elcetion that the blog has turned into nothing but an insult contest.
I miss the days when bloggers would actually discuss issues. But, in a way that’s good. I find myself not wasting nearly as much time here as I used to.
that’s election…I’m going to get more caffeine!
Don’t forget the party tonight..ALL of you are invited!!!

What a great idea! I hope he follows through on this. There is a movement, led by Micheal Pollen, to have Obama put a “White House Farmer” on staff to convert five prime, southfacing acres of the grounds into an organic farm to produce food for the White House, and to give the rest away to food banks. They are taking applications.
Gee, if you guys supported me for this position, you could get me out of the state and out of this blog forever!!!!

A message to the world –
We, the United States of America, your top quality supplier of the ideals of liberty and
democracy, would like to apologize for our 2001-2008 interruption in service. The technical fault that led to this eight-year service outage has been located, and the software responsible was
replaced November 4.
Early tests of the newly installed program indicate that we are now operating correctly,
and fully functional as of January 20.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the outage. We look forward to resuming full service and hope to improve in years to come. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Small farmers and people who grow, ya know, real food can pound sand here. And they better bring their own jug of drinking water with them!

Nope, the White House Chef is thrilled to have that kind of “kitchen garden”. Any chef would be. The chef chooses what they want, then the rest goes to food banks.
And Reg? I dont wear bib overalls. But if they want me to give up my Red Wings, I’m outta there!

Obama flashes irritation in press room
By JONATHAN MARTIN & CARRIE BUDOFF BROWN | 1/22/09 6:43 PM EST Updated: 1/23/09 7:20 AM EST Text Size:
President Obama made a surprise visit to the White House press corps Thursday night, but got agitated when he was faced with a substantive question.
Asked how he could reconcile a strict ban on lobbyists in his administration with a Deputy Defense Secretary nominee who lobbied for Raytheon, Obama interrupted with a knowing smile on his face.
“Ahh, see,” he said, “I came down here to visit. See this is what happens. I can’t end up visiting with you guys and shaking hands if I’m going to get grilled every time I come down here.”
Pressed further by the Politico reporter about his Pentagon nominee, William J. Lynn III, Obama turned more serious, putting his hand on the reporter’s shoulder and staring him in the eye.
“Alright, come on” he said, with obvious irritation in his voice. “We will be having a press conference at which time you can feel free to [ask] questions. Right now, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to you guys – that’s all I was trying to do.”
You’re perfect for the gig, “ksfarmgrrl” –
(How do we nominate you, BTW? I read the thing, saw there were nominees, but haven’t seen the details.)
Still, I fear an international incident if there’s a big ol’ State Dinner in the big house and from the White House Kitchen Gardener’s quarters over by the tomato patch comes a wift of your fried chicken. Like when the Ambassador from Bulgaria leads a procession from the State Dining Room for some ‘tater salad.
Seriously: Look into how to apply for the gig. Even the CONs would support your candidacy.

You know, that sounds about right.
Now that America is rid of bush and his need to save blastocysts for the incinerator out back, we’re going to see both progress and the wonders of science! The benefits, the cures and treatments for many who suffer are so exciting!

First Embryonic Stem-Cell Trial Gets Approval From the FDA
In a watershed moment for one of the most contentious areas of science and American politics, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared the way for the first-ever human trial of a medical treatment derived from embryonic stem cells.
Geron Corp., a Menlo Park, Calif., biotechnology company, is expected to announce Friday that it received a green light from the agency to mount a study of its stem-cell treatment for spinal cord injuries in up to 10 patients. The announcement caps more than a decade of advances in the company’s labs and comes on the cusp of a widely expected shift in U.S. policy toward support of embryonic stem-cell research after years of official opposition.
“This is the dawn of a new era in medical therapeutics,” said Thomas B. Okarma, Geron’s president and chief executive officer. The hope that stem-cell therapy will repair and regenerate diseased organs and tissue “goes beyond what pills and scalpels can ever do.”

A Dozen Fun Facts About the House Democrats’ Massive Spending Bill
1. The House Democrats’ bill will cost each and every household $6,700 additional debt, paid for by our children and grandchildren.
2. The total cost of this one piece of legislation is almost as much as the annual discretionary budget for the entire federal government.
3. President-elect Obama has said that his proposed stimulus legislation will create or save three million jobs. This means that this legislation will spend about $275,000 per job. The average household income in the U.S. is $50,000 a year.
4. The House Democrats’ bill provides enough spending – $825 billion – to give every man, woman, and child in America $2,700.
5. $825 billion is enough to give every person living in poverty in the U.S. $22,000.
6. $825 billion is enough to give every person in Ohio $72,000.
7. Although the House Democrats’ proposal has been billed as a transportation and infrastructure investment package, in actuality only $30 billion of the bill – or three percent – is for road and highway spending. A recent study from the Congressional Budget Office said that only 25 percent of infrastructure dollars can be spent in the first year, making the one year total less than $7 billion for infrastructure.
8. Much of the funding within the House Democrats’ proposal will go to programs that already have large, unexpended balances. For example, the bill provides $1 billion for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), which already have $16 billion on hand. And, this year, Congress has plans to rescind $9 billion in highway funding that the states have not yet used.
9. In 1993, the unemployment rate was virtually the same as the rate today (around seven percent). Yet, then-President Clinton’s proposed stimulus legislation ONLY contained $16 billion in spending.
10. Here are just a few of the programs and projects that have been included in the House Democrats’ proposal:
$650 million for digital TV coupons.
$6 billion for colleges/universities – many which have billion dollar endowments.
$166 billion in direct aid to states – many of which have failed to budget wisely.
$50 million in funding for the National Endowment of the Arts.
$44 million for repairs to U.S. Department of Agriculture headquarters.
$200 million for the National Mall, including grass planting.
$400 million for “National Treasures.”
11. Almost one-third of the so called tax relief in the House Democrats’ bill is spending in disguise, meaning that true tax relief makes up only 24 percent of the total package – not the 40 percent that President-elect Obama had requested.
12. $825 billion is just the beginning – many Capitol Hill Democrats want to spend even more taxpayer dollars on their “stimulus” plan.

Time for Equal Pay?
Democrats took their bigger, better 2009 majority for a spin in the Senate yesterday, passing a bill making it easier for women to sue their employers for wage discrimination. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which Obama supported during the campaign, was previously a no-go as the Dems’ majority was too small to carry the legislation. But with the Democrats now holding 59 seats, the party managed to score a filibuster-proof 61 to 36 vote and the legislation is on track towards quickly becoming law. All 16 female senators voted for the bill.

A Dozen Fun Facts About the House Democrats’ Massive Spending Bill
Yada, yada, yada…
Republicans had better stop carping and get on board with helping instead of obstructing. The clock is running out and there aren’t a lot of options. Recession? Depression? Start thinking in terms of FAILURE. If something doesn’t change pretty quick, our economy could FAIL. You may think you can ride this out, but if the economy fails, your investments and savings won’t be worth anything. Unless you’re setting on a pile of bullion, you’ll be destitute just like everybody else.
Republicans were in charge for 8 years and look where that got us. It’s time to try something different.
But go ahead and complain. There will be plenty of room in the soup lines for you, too.

Yes, that’s exactly what it is! You’re also exactly right on the “yet.”
“And the regulatory hurdle is, understandably, a huge one – in this case it required 21,000 pages of documents.”
He added that for those patients desperate for treatment, and for their families, the news showed the research is moving in the right direction,” said Professor Robin Lovell-Badge, head the MRC National Institute for Medical Research. We don’t have the hurdle of bush any longer!
The first embryonic stem cell was only discovered 10 years ago, and since 2001 there have been limits on federal funding. That will change! Congress passed bills to change that twice and both times bush vetoed the bills — saving those left-over blastocysts so they could be incinerated instead of used in research.
Mary,
What world have you been living in for the last several years?
You think that only now, after this election, that things have turned into insults here?
You must be kidding….

When have I ever insulted you, boy?
HA! Sorry Monkeyhawk. I didnt have enough coffee earlier to get the chef/gardener joke. Funny. And if you like the aroma of my fried chicken, wait ’till I get my big smoker huffin’ and puffin’ with hickory smoke and brisket. And chicken and sausage. The holy trinity of Texas bbq. I used to fill the whole neighborhood in Austin with smoke every weekend. Heheheh. Half of the neighborhood loved it, and half hated it. But none of them complained about receiving a sampler plate.
I’m too old to garden five acres with a shovel or supervise a bunch of punk assed kids doing the work. But seriously? There is a guy from Ellsworth that I think my friends and I will nominate. He’d be PERFECT!
I’m also pretty sure given my posts here that I’d never pass the background check. And obama has shown his reluctance for “teh gay”. He might be afraid of catching it in his food.
“beat out the White House Chef for that job too, she would handle both jobs well!”
Hee hee heeeeee Linda. Thanks.
One thing would be certain. The Obama’s would have to up their workouts to avoid gaining weight.
XXX,
So, exactly how is just “getting on board” going to help?
It is simply amazing how for the last 8 years you liberals, and whatever you call yourself XXX, have fought with and obstructed Bush at every turn. You never wanted him to be successful and when he was it still wasn’t good enough for you.
Now, you want all the Republicans to simply go along with whatever Obama says?
What twisted world are you people living in? It can’t possibly be reality.
There is a difference between wanting Obama to have a good presidency and for our country to be better and simply going along with whatever socialist left wing liberal policies the Democrats want to enact.
Simply saying our country needs something “different” so we should all go along with “different” doesn’t make one damn bit of logical sense.
Why don’t you start by saying how “different” is going to be better? Sepcifically? And then why we should support it?
Pew Poll: Global warming ranks dead last as priority…

Hey cosmos, you need to find a new life, global warming is one dead pony….and getting cold, ha!
Ah, told ya so, told ya so….
Sounds like the boy marine is “fixin” to defy his commander in chief.
I wondered how long it would take for that to happen….
So much for the “good soldier” schtick. I wonder if he’ll be turning in his costume soon?

What is up with the stupid censor(s) this morning?
I tried three times to make a post – and I got that mealy-mouthed “moderation” garbage.
And it’s starting to cheese me off….
Nathan, I would have rather seen Bush read his terrorism briefing and possibly stopped 9/11 than what ended up happening. I would have rather seen a quick response to Katrina than what ended up happening. I would have liked to seen him veto at least one spending bill and the budget and the economy just might not be in the mess its in. Maybe if he would have put more stock into what Hans Blix told him their wouldn’t be 4000 dead soldiers.
As our economy and stock markets are in a free fall some wonder why. Well, here it is, short and sweet, or should I say sour.
This video takes about three minutes, but is well worth viewing as it clearly shows where the fault rests in the present mortgage and financial crisis.
This is the video clip that was not allowed to stay on the airwaves in USA .
(Still, Bush is being blamed for this ‘08 economic collapse!!)
This video clearly shows that George Bush tried to warn Congress starting in 2001, that this economic crisis was coming, if something was not done. Several additional warnings followed. But congress refused to listen, along with the arrogant, Congressman Barney Frank.
This video says it all.
The liberal AMERICAN media did not want this video on You Tube, so they had Time Warner threaten a law suit (proprietary rights) if it was not taken off. This link is of the same video but is routed through Canada. Everyone in America needs to see this before it is yanked off the airwaves again!

Very good!!!
“This video clearly shows that George Bush tried to warn Congress starting in 2001, that this economic crisis was coming, if something was not done.”
So… the REPUBLICANS in charge of congress did nothing for five years?
Color me shocked.
But keep playing that meme. 2010 elections are not far away. I’m sure it will play as well then as it did in 06 and 08.
Repukes. Even when they are in charge, they arent, ya know, REALLY in charge.
Tom,
The mere fact that you actually believe that there was some briefing that would have allowed us to prevent the 9/11 attacks only proves what a stooge you are for the left wing propaghanda machine.

“I’ll assume it will only encourage me to sleep with more girls”
HAHAHAHAH. Good one!
I was going to make a smart remark about not needing any more competition, but then I realized, we’re not competing for the same girls.
It’s not a choice, ya know? Poor straight girls. They are what they are :) And they are all YOURS!
Nathan, their was one actually called “Bin Laden determined to attack the US”. Whether or not 9/11 was preventable, who knows but Bush certainly didn’t take terrorism serious pre 9/11
Tom,
Of course Bin laden was determined to attack the US. He did it twice already during Clinton.
How would a memo so vague have helped Bush prevent 9/11 as you believe?
What specifically was it that Bush did that makes you say he didn’t take terrorism seriously?
Would you then also say that Clinton never took terrorism seriously?
“Nathaniel” tries –
“The mere fact that you actually believe that there was some briefing that would have allowed us to prevent the 9/11 attacks….”
Yeah. That’s right, boy. The “mere” fact.
Except it’s only one of a bunch of facts… from January 20, 2001 on…
Richard Clarke was trying to get the attention of BushCo from Day One. The Clinton transition team tried to tell Condoleezza Rice — again, from Day One — that al Qaeda was a threat. The investigation into the USS Cole attack wasn’t complete until late December and Clinton told Shrub explicitly and specifically who the culprits were and how to retaliate; but that he would not leave the incoming presidency with an inherited crisis. It was Dubya’s job now and not (as with Waco) a previous operation dumped on the doorstep like a s#hit-filled paper bag set on fire.
The first eight months of the George WMD Bush administration was filled with CONs relishing that Shrub was doing NOTHING the way Clinton ran things. They were hell-bent on changing everything.
Look how often you CONs start counting on September 12th, 2001 when you claim Dumbya “protected us from terrorists’ attacks.”
Your position is only supported if we forget all context, all evidence, all prior warnings, and all FBI intelligence prior to 9/11 and try to reduce it to a “mere fact.”
It’s like saying, “The mere fact that someone who jumped off the Empire State Building is alive and well as he passes the 34th floor gave us no reason to believe he might die when he hits the sidewalk.”
Oops, posted this on the wrong open thread:
Fish may help fight ocean acidification:

MonkeyHawk,
Why in hell would we want to run things the way Clinton did?
How many terrorist attacks happened during Clintons watch?
And then you sit here wondering why Bush wouldn’t follow his policies on terrorism?
Talk about some liberal revisionist history. Absurd.
Notice the date –
Rumsfeld Predicted More Attacks
By Robert Burns
Associated Press Writer
Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001; 6:49 p.m. EDT
WASHINGTON — Inside the Pentagon, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld had just raced to his office after hearing of the first World Trade Center attack.
… U.S. Rep. Christopher Cox, R-Calif., said Rumsfeld had just predicted that the United States would face another terrorist incident…
“He said, ‘Let me tell ya, I’ve been around the block a few times. There will be another event.’ And he repeated it for emphasis,” Cox said. “And
within minutes of saying that, his words proved tragically prophetic.”
Again. Notice the date of that account.
After ONE airplane hit ONE World Trade Center tower, Rumsfeld was scrambling around the Pentagon telling everyone there would be more attacks.
How do you suppose he knew that, boy?
Perhaps he read Condi’s memo?
Meanwhile, Shrub was reading “My Pet Goat.”
Just how did Rumsfeld “know” there’d be more attacks, boy?
Was it just because he’d “been around the block?”
Now maybe it’s true. Rumsfeld’s response to the first WTC airplane was “merely” prophetic.
(How did his other “prophecies” regarding Iraq work out, btw?)
Or maybe he’d read the memo.
And remember Condi’s advice to Richard Clarke: “He’s (that would be Shrub) is not a big reader.”
Except, I guess, for “My Pet Goat.” It was age-appropriate, after all.
Obama, refuses to answer questions and acts indignant?
Is this the new President representing such openness?
Obama flashes irritation in press room
The president was quickly saved by a cameraman in the room who called out: “I’d like to say it one more time: ‘Mr. President.’ ”
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0109/17831.html
Wow, good thing Obama was quickly saved by a camera man!
Someone might have asked him another tough question, like, where are you going to send the prisoners from Gitmo?
What sense does it make to say you will close it down in a year with no real plan in place to do so?
“What do you call “donndublin” and his lover in bed?”
Alone with a Kleenex.
(And they say it’s only “libs” who spew out personal attacks.)
You must like to pork too MH.
Nathan, you call that agitated?? I call BS on your agitated… He told the reporter that he was not there for a press conference… And to you and politico, that makes him agitated?? Looks to me as though he merely told the reporter, in a very calm manner, that he would have to wait for the press conference, just like everybody else…
Politico, and others like them, are just looking for ANYthing they can find to distract from the Obama agenda….
Some clown on the radio this morning was griping because Obama hasnt ended the Iraq war yet… LOL…. I guess you people arent even going to give the man a chance to implement his plans… in his way…

And on a lighter note: If Airbus is allowed to bid on the new Air Force One, what chance would a betting man give Boeing for landing the tanker deal? Looks like Mr. O has a choice to make.
“Looks like Mr. O has a choice to make”

And given the way kansans vote R without even thinking, and especially the wingnuts wichita sends to Washington, I am sure obama will give Boeing ALL the due consideration it deserves….

What a compliment.

Scrap the stupid tanker and The 55 billion we spend every year on atomic arsenal maintenance, end the war in Iraq, and cut the military by about 300 billion. That’d pay for it about ten times. Oh yeah, and raise taxes for those making over $100,000 a bit.

And if it had gotten the funding it needed, it might now be the standard treatment instead of a small trial, and a lot of people would be walking around instead of confined to a wheelchair or bed for the rest of their lives.
“…cut the military by about 300 billion.”
We would really need healthcare then. After the attacks.
And if it had gotten the funding it needed,
If it were a proven science, why hasn’t private industry picked up and run with it? If it is a viable science, why does the government need to fund it?
We would really need healthcare then. After the attacks.

Sol,
The first embryonic stem cell was discovered only 10 years ago. Private funds have been generous, and there has been great progress. There will be more — sooner now that the bush hurdle is out of the way. Everybody, including those who still want those blastocysts saved from research (so they can go into the incinerator), will benefit! The cures and treatments won’t be limited to those in favor of the research.
We’ll never know how many advances were slowed down, or not discovered because of bush’s vetoes. We just don’t have to worry about that any longer! ;-)
Linda,
We talked about this (and your son) many moons ago. You brought about some form of stem cell that was not embryonic that had much promise. Move forward from there. It isn’t as provocative.
How long have stem cells been researched? Why can’t the adult stem cell research apply to embryonic? Something seems amiss there.
Linda, speaking of hurdles out of the way…

Sol, there is a difference between commercial viability and basic research. While there are some farsighted venture capitalists out there, the market frequently does not always reward good science, particularly in the short-term, first-quarter, casino mentality of the Bush age.
Look up the early history of DARPA and packet-switching sometime.
But your implication to the contrary explains your view on global warming. Of course those who support the theory of AGW must have a personal-profit motive! Is there any other kind?
Yes, there is.
Sol,
I’m not going into any details as most people find the subject boring and have made up their minds anyway. Three points:
1. The limitations of federal funding imposed by bush in 2001 makes it impossible for the scientist studying embryonic stem cells (ESC) to share expensive lab equipment if that lab equipment was purchased with govt. monies. Removing those limitations will make research more cost effective in many ways.
2. Adult stem cells (ASC) already are what they are. They’ve been studied since the late 1940s and today adult blood cells treat blood disorders, etc.
3. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) are made with an adult stem cell (I.E. skin) and chemicals and were discovered in 2006 as the result of studying ESC. They aren’t yet without problems, but are the hope of the future.
Basically, all stem cell research continuing increases the odds of success and ending the controversy. But, until fertility clinics are closed there will always be blastocysts destroyed. bush’s vetoes saved those same blastocysts from research, but not from the incinerator. It was more than disingenuous of him to fool uninformed people into thinking that he was saving anything.

Covenant players said spectators and an assistant coach were cheering wildly as their team edged closer to 100 points.
“Dallas Academy has eight girls on its varsity team and about 20 girls in its high school. It is winless over the last four seasons. The academy boasts of its small class sizes and specializes in teaching students struggling with “learning differences,” such as short attention spans or dyslexia.

The number of abortions in Connecticut increased 12% from 2000 to 2007 because of a lack of state laws restricting abortion, while nationwide the number of abortions declined. Notably, state legislation which has proven successful in reducing abortions has been cutting taxpayer funding, enforcing parental notification or consent, and enforcing informed consent in abortion mills, such as viewing ultrasound images of the intended contract murder victim.

A major step forward in the controversial practice of stem cell research occurred today as the FDA approved a leading bio tech company, Geron Crop, to conduct experiments on up to 10 patients with spinal cord injuries. The historic decision marks a reversal of ethics-driven policy restricting the study and medical application of embryonic stem cells; critics complain it destroys human life. Its proponents, however, look forward to capitalizing on the untapped potential of stem cells to regenerate vital tissue and organs: “This is the dawn of a new era in medical therapeutics,” said the CEO of Geron. He stressed that the medical benefit of the practice “goes beyond what pills and scalpels can ever do.”

At least 18 people were killed in a suspected American missile attack in the North Waziristan agency of Pakistan on Friday.
It was believed to be the first attack that took place since President Barack Obama took office. Pakistani officials had previously expressed hope that once Obama became president he would stop the attacks.

If the post directly above is correct, fleety, you missed the party. As “Dandy Don” used to sing… “The party’s over . . .”
Obama has stepped over the line here. I will listen and read what I want, not what some self serving politician even thinking or suggesting otherwise. I listen to Rush Limbaugh and proud of it. Obama will make even some who voted him mad, and thank god I wasn’t one of them. You bet you will hear from Rush Monday on these comments.
http://www.nypost.com/seven/01232009/news/politics/prez_zings_gop_foe_in_a_timulating_talk_151572.htm
Hank I don’t read Limbaugh.
I am not sure where I called anyone an enemy. I think this might be an example of the O-derangement syndrome.
I bet the Big-Pharma companies will be able to help you with that one soon. As full disclosure, I have worked for Big-Pharma companies, so I don’t have a lot against them…
I wonder if Hank has been talking too much to Germ lately, and is maybe catching some of her cognitive distortions. We libs, well at least me, Hank, are worried about ya. Get well soon.
Rush Limbaugh said something very stupid today, and I don’t think he was being absurd or sarcastic. He may have lost his faith in the intelligence of America today, which is understandable. But he still offered a stupid answer.
LIBERALS: DO NOT READ THE REST OF THIS.
The question from a caller was something like this: “Since the Liberal Socialists have now won the elections and control the White House and Congress, what action can Conservative citizens today take to fight the Liberals and the Socialist policies they plan to enact in America?”
Rush said the Conservatives need to hire Lobbyists to fight for the Conservative agenda. So use the current system which brought Liberal Socialists to us in the first place, to fight for Conservatism.
That was pure BS and a Cop Out by Rush.
There are many ways Conservatives can take action to fight for the Conservative Agenda.
-Make sure your kids are taught Conservative principles at home, since the Public Scrools are not doing this today. Teach your kids History, and what political and economic systems have worked, and haven’t worked in the past. Teach them what Freedom is, and how it is attained, and how it is maintained, and the sacrifices in blood that have been made to attain and maintain Freedom.
-Teach kids that Self-Reliance is not just a virtue, but a Requirement to live. You are not born into this world with anyone owing you anything. You need to earn your own way in life by learning some skill that will be marketable and useful to others, for which you can exchange money or goods or services that you need to sustain the lifestyle you desire. Your work to make products or provide services is what you will use to sustain yourself.
-Teach kids that Socialism is the way that one group of people exert power over another group of people to extract money, goods, and services which they are unwilling to work for themselves. Socialism is a form of stealing, mandated through the ‘benevolent’ laws enacted by Government to extort from one group of people to benefit the group of people who will continue to vote for the extortionists in Government to remain in power. Of course, Freedom is lost by taking from one group and giving to another, but they perceive the benefit for some at the expense of the rest is a good thing, or so they rationalize this view in their very tiny selfish brains.
-Become active in Government. Watch what your representatives are doing at the local, state, and Federal level. Pay Attention! Make your Representatives here your voice through phone calls, emails, letters, and face-to –face meetings.
-Run for political office yourself. Run for School Board, City Council, Mayor, State Government & Federal Government offices.
-Join or form organizations which gather like-minded Freedom-loving people to become an even bigger and more organized voice.
-Write letters to newspapers, blogs, and communicate your message using your First Amendment right for as long as we keep it.
-Tell all your friends, neighbors, colleagues, your view and argue for the rights of Freedom.
-Join the Military making the most active commitment to fighting for Freedom, though your political leaders may stir you to nothing but meaningless political victories. There are a few times when wars must be fought to defend America and the Freedom we have.
-Finally, Walk the Walk, don’t just talk the talk. Get off your as*es and work, support yourselves, and perhaps be of some benefit to those around you. Don’t be some bottom feeding leach sucking the lifesblood work and effort from someone else, while you do nothing but TALK about the way things should be and how others should give things to you since life isn’t fair and you don’t feel like working so hard yourself.
Don’t just hire a lobbyist.
Meet the new boss, the same as the old boss.
Pleef, I realize the infancy of the Obama admin doesn’t excuse the lost lives, but. . . .what would you have had him do? Suspend all operations in Afghanistan, on day 3? I would have been okay with that, but try that one with a focus group.
I deal with the possible, not some imagined ideal.
Dear Steven,
I was referring to your 8:10 post. I didn’t realize you were cut and pasting Walker.

Or are you just waiting for Free Obama National Health Care?
And secondly, you Lib Buddies of JR, have you gathered together and contributed your OWN resources to chip in to buy health insurance for JR’s kid?
Just wondering.
I know the answers, but wanted to see if you had the balls to answer the questions.

Wow! $500 given to this woman for her house!
“GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Bearded Hamas leaders on Friday delivered an envelope with five crisp $100 bills to a veiled woman whose house was damaged during Israel’s invasion of Gaza, the first of promised relief payments by the militant group.”
But it get’s even better!
$1,300 for life insurance. (Wow! Don’t spend it all at once!)
$650 if injured. (Should go a long ways!)
$5,200 for a house. (Worth 4 TIMES as much as one human life!)
$2,600 for a damaged house. (Worth 2 TIMES as much as one human life!)
“Hamas, believed to be funded by donations from the Muslim world and Iran, has promised $52 million in emergency relief. This would include $1,300 for a death in the family, $650 for an injury, $5,200 for a destroyed house and $2,600 for a damaged house, he said, adding that these are not yet compensation payments, which Hamas promises will follow.”

18 Dead After Suspected U.S. Missile Strike in Pakistan
Friday, January 23, 2009
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Suspected U.S. missiles killed 18 people on the Pakistan side of the Afghan border Friday, security officials said, the first attacks on the Al Qaeda stronghold since President Barack Obama took office.
JJ – it is too bad we undermined Abbas so completely. Had Israel been willing to recognize an Abbas government in the West bank perhaps it could stand as an alternative to Hamas. Sadly, Hamas is the closest thing there is to any sort of an independent Palestinian government. We have refused to allow Abbas to govern so we do not have a moderate partner.
JJ, the degree to which Hamas has become the only recorse for Gazans should concern all of us. I know you don’t give two sihts for human beings (here or elsewhere), but the latest offensive is, with dismally obvious predictability, increasing support for Hamas in Gaza—at least until Gazans see any hope from another source.
And it sucks.

WASHINGTON — President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.
“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.

* You think that I “ain’t smart enough. . .”

* You try to use an irrelevant, bogus “authority” line — your Navy “liason” duty.
* Just because you say so. (uh-huh)

* You think that the climate science and data is done by Al Gore’s “butt-boy”.

“Hamas: Obama doesn’t represent change
In first remarks on Gaza, president calls for end to rockets, Israeli pull-out”
Obama wants to work with Abbas – Bush had refused to do that which strenghtened Hamas.

All y’all Libs take the side of the Muslim Extremists in the MidEast.
If I have to choose sides, I’ll put my money on Israel.
1. One, do you know the extent of their nuke forces? 3+ subs with SLBM’s with range to hit anywhere in the Mideast from the Med or the Indian Ocean. 300+ other tactical nukes and intermediate range missiles.
2. Israel is a tiny country surrounded by opposition attacking it constantly since 1948. Israel has kicked the Arabs As* EVERY time.
3. The underdog wins. He’s smarter, faster, hungrier, and under more pressure with enemies on all sides.

Heaviest Element Known To Science Discovered…
Lawrence Livermore Laboratories has discovered the heaviest element yet known to science.
The new element, Governmentium (symbol=Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.
Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert. However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from 4 days to 4 years to complete. Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2 to 6 years. It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places. In fact, Governmentium’s mass will actually increase over time, s ince each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.
When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium (symbol=Ad), an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium, since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.
JJ – so you consider Abbas to be “Muslim Extremists”?
So, what is your proposed solution to the Palestinian situation? I suppose you are like Kahane/Kach and want a “final” one?
Just asking…
So long as the oath is considered legally binding, neither is constitutionally required. It was just considered a “truth device”–the idea being that somewhat might fear punishment from their personal deity if they took an oath upon their sacred book.
All very silly to me, but there it is.
Israel are the bullies and are in the wrong. So many Holocaust survivor’s are protesting the blatant extermination reversal. Here’s an example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1NWucpa9Nc
Israel moves out of Gaza, so they can fire at will, killing everyone in sight. Sick.
I just don’t think that ALL Muslim’s are “terrorists”. I just happen to believe that these Muslim’s in particular are sick of being sick and are a bit hungry too. Funny how Israel bombs both the Palestinian’s medicine and their food.

Obama: Quit Listening to Rush Limbaugh if You Want to Get Things Done
WASHINGTON — President Obama warned Republicans on Capitol Hill today that they need to quit listening to radio king Rush Limbaugh if they want to get along with Democrats and the new administration.
“You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.
One White House official confirmed the comment but said he was simply trying to make a larger point about bipartisan efforts.
“There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats,” the official said. “We shouldn’t let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done.”
That wasn’t Obama’s only jab at Republicans today.
While discussing the stimulus package with top lawmakers in the White House’s Roosevelt Room, President Obama shot down a critic with a simple message.
“I won,” he said, according to aides who were briefed on the meeting. “I will trump you on that.”
The response was to the objection by Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) to the president’s proposal to increase benefits for low-income workers who don’t owe federal income taxes.

All of you idiots have sat there and read what I’ve written and are watching it happen. You still may deny it and won’t ever say you were wrong, but it doesn’t change a damned thing.
Everything that you see happening today around the World, is a direct result of 9-11. The thing’s that you see happening around the globe also would not be happening without the help of 9-11.
Laugh all you want, you’re naive, blind and have your heads’ so far up your arses, that laughing will be your only help.
It’s the people like you, who will be moaning the loudest after everyone stops laughing.
I’m going to savor knowing that in a few more months, you’ll have laughed yourselves to Hell.
Go back to your teevee.

Dear Steven,
Interesting how you call fellow Americans the ‘enemy’. Have you ever had a real enemy?
I know why you are a liberal. It’s not because you read Limbaugh.
==================================================
Dear Hank,
That would be me using the word enemy rather loosely. I generally don’t call fellow Americans the enemy. Your own blond bummer does, however, refer to us Liberals as the enemy on a consistent basis. So, it’s okay for her to do so, but not for Liberals to do so, even in jest? What’s that word . . . hypoc…. something something:-)
And, of course, so-called “christians” on radio and TV interchange “the Enemy” with references to Satan.
I never refer CONs as enemies, but I’ve certainly been called that more than once by wing-nuts.
