How much longer until they enslave Charleston Heston?
Primate Culture Is Just A Stone’s Throw Away From Human Evolution, Study Finds
ScienceDaily (Jan. 15, 2009) — For 30 years, scientists have been studying stone-handling behavior in several troops of Japanese macaques to catch a unique glimpse of primate culture. By watching these monkeys acquire and maintain behavioral traditions from generation to generation, the scientists have gained insight into the cultural evolution of humans.
Primatologists Michael A. Huffman, Charmalie A.D. Nahallage, and Jean-Baptiste Leca from the Primate Research Institute in Kyoto, Japan assessed social learning exhibited by these macaques during stone-handling, a behavior that has been passed down from elder to younger since it was observed in some of the troops in 1979. Stone-handling, in this study, included rubbing and clacking stones together, pounding them onto hard surfaces, picking them up, and cuddling, carrying, pushing, rolling and throwing them.

Its time to make it illegal to drive while talking on cell phones. I got forced into a curb by a cell phone talking driver who decided to shift lanes without looking.
Talking on cell phones while driving is as dangerous as driving drunk. Why is nothing being done about this?

To Anti and others who question why this inauguration is so historic, I think today’s excellent editorial my Mark McCormick explains it all:
As Obama is sworn in, I’ll think of ‘Sir,’ others.
A good friend of mine asked me who I most wished were alive to see Tuesday’s inauguration of our first African-American president.
I thought about the Rev. Martin Luther King and his lawyer, Wichita native Don Hollowell. Junction City’s Arthur Fletcher, who advised Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan and George H.W. Bush in roles that included assistant secretary of labor, deputy assistant for urban affairs, and chairman of the Civil Rights Commission. The great Gordon Parks.
I thought of my Aunt Laura, who helped raise me. My mother’s great-grandparents, Papa Charlie and Big Mamma. My dad’s parents, Daddy Langston and Mama Ann. My friend, Jihad Muqtasid.
But I’d also include on my guest list a deliveryman I used to talk to here at The Eagle. A small man whose name I never knew because I only called him “Sir.”
His story illustrates the mountaintop our society has scaled and will be staring out from Tuesday as we swear in a new president.
He told me once about waiting for the bus in Wichita with his pregnant wife and how the driver made them jog an extra block before stopping and letting them on.
He looked 50 to 60 years old when he shared this story in the late 1990s, but the anger and humiliation he felt then still creased his face.
His experience and those of millions of others before and after him pock the twisting road leading to this moment.
They represent people systematically denied home loans. People targeted by Southern state-funded hate groups called White Citizens’ Councils. People who for generations didn’t have dominion over their own bodies.
Here in Wichita, my mother couldn’t try on clothes in downtown stores in the 1950s. She had to try them on at home, then bring them back. Restaurants served black patrons in alleys. In that same era, schools actually drained pools after black students swam in them so white students wouldn’t have to swim in the same water.
So how in the world could this country produce a man like Barack Obama at once touched by but also unscathed by this insane racial milieu?
Has any man moved further, faster than Obama?
Has any country moved further socially despite defense mechanisms that cause people, still today, to recoil at the mere mention of this history? Despite shame so deep that the country still can’t fully confront it?
My fear is our tendency to forget that past or to allow others to gloss over it.
To consider Tuesday no big deal, you’re missing this country’s tragic history and its indomitable spirit.
Slaves built the White House. Now, a black man will lead the world from there.
That’s why during the inauguration, along with my family members who’ve passed on, I’ll be remembering “Sir” holding his wife’s hand as they raced after that bus.
I’ll be thinking of how comedian Bill Cosby took pictures of his parents into the voting booth with him when he voted for Obama.
I hope you’ll remember the people on your own lists.
Take their pictures out. Fix their faces in your mind. Imagine them whispering in your ear the words Dr. King shouted the night before his death, “I may not get there with you, but we as a people will get to the promised land.”
And what happens Tuesday, perhaps more so than any other inauguration, will fuse “we as a people,” with the Constitution’s “We the people.”
Don’t forget to come and celebrate at The Anchor on Friday evening!
Last night, C-Span ran a talk by the author of “Obamanomics: How Bottom-Up Economic Prosperity Will Replace Trickle-Down Economics (Economics in the Obama Presidency) ”

http://www.amazon.com/Obamanomics-Bottom-Up-Prosperity-Trickle-Down-Presidency/dp/1583228659
“Author, media commentator and former investment banker Talbott delineates the differences between top-down and bottom-up economics, explaining the latter’s advantages and how Obama’s proposed policies will take us in the direction of greater economic justice and opportunity for average citizens. Quoting Obama at length, Talbott gives the impression of a man with the wisdom and will to reform many areas: healthcare, social security, housing and labor.”

DavidB, it was a economic theory that was doomed from the beginning. The principle being the better the top does the better those below will do. The better the company does the more there is for the workers.
The problem being that the top has a different view of the success. In a game where money is not money but points scored. The more points at the top the bigger win the top is. There was no incentive to share the wealth. It forget two things, one is human nature and the other is that the top’s success depends on how well the bottom is doing. It really is a symbolic relationship and is demonstrated everyday in Wichita with the aircraft companies and the Wichita economy. It becomes like a triangle with the wider edge on the top and it is held up by the narrow edge.
The ‘antipathetic Maggot’ lies again, as usual.
I have never taken any delight in the pain of war and death. What I have said, and still do, is the responsibility falls primarily on the Hamas terrorists and the Palestinians that voted them into control of Gaza.
Israel has a right to stop the attacks on their civilian population which Hamas as conducted with over 3000 rockets fired into Israel in just the last year alone. War isn’t clean and it isn’t pretty and things and people get broken unfortunately. There is no such thing as a ’safe’ war. When Hamas stops shooting at Israel peace will follow, it is up to Hamas.
Up to a certain degree I agree with Boxlock20, it has been Hammas that took a road that led to whole sale slaughter of the innocent people in Gaza. Israel’s response has been like hearing a gun shot in a neighborhood and the Police opening fire on everything that moves with full automatic weapons.
But it has been Hammas that fired the gun shot to begin with and continued to fire a random shot to get the Israelis to open fire with the full autos.
They knew Israel would response in the way they have and it has been Hammas that wanted the deaths of the innocents in Gaza.
writerdog you are known to be of a fair mind. Please research how it is that Israel treats the Palestinian people. I don’t know what you will conclude. But my sympathies are with Hamas and and Palestinians. I don’t believe Israel has a right to take their land AND abuse them. I don’t know about you but I don’t believe in divinely chosen people and cite Israel’s behavior as a good reason why.
Bluejay both have a valid claim to the land and certainly the Israelis have used a sledge hammer to swat at flies. And in the end that is what Hammas has been, those rockets they fire are at best hap-hazarded and a lot more sound then damage.
I do not excuse Israel in their response it was like I said of the gun shot and the full automatic weapon response. But what was Hammas goal in this? They certainly knew that those rockets would not destroy Israel. And they also knew that Israel would respond the way they have.
What Hammas has been doing it taking advantage of Israel’s temperament, Its like if Regular want to get you arrested. You are known to have a passionate and fiery temper, now Regular knows if he gets in your face enough you will finally stop walking away and respond with a sock to his nose! But in Hammas case it is not just they will receive a bloody nose they will have hundreds of innocent Palestine’s killed. This show a real disregard for the people and only wanting to make the world see Israel in a bad light.
In Gaza there are broken sewer pipes and the raw sewage floods the streets and enters homes.
But Israel refuses to allow the replacement pipes to be sent into Gaza, the reason is that these pipes are often used to make the rockets. But none the less by not replacing those pipes it mean the people of Gaza live and often die with the deadly effects of the raw sewage. Israel only knows one way to try and fix any problem. They only tool is a sledge hammer.
Perceptive Defense Of Israel By Spanish Think Tank
“Dr. Rafael L. Bardaji, writing on behalf of Grupo de Estudiois Estrategicos, makes a compelling argument for the need for Israel to be allowed to finish the job against Hamas. While some have argued that Israel should cease fire immediately, Dr. Bardaji reminds us that although Hezbollah was bested on the battlefield its success in coming out of its conflict with Israel politically intact translated into a long-term victory for the Iranian backed terror group.
In the midst of his analysis, Dr. Bardaji deals with the distorted reports of casualties inflicted by Israel. News reports keep repeating Palestinian death counts (with no evidence as to their accuracy) as if every Palestinian killed is a civilian. Dr. Bardaji cites the United Nations, one of Israel’s fiercest critics, and concludes that at most 10% of the victims can be considered innocent victims while 90% are “would be leaders and militiamen of Hamas”. He goes on to note that Israel is doing a much better job than NATO in Afghanistan is in hitting military targets and avoiding non-military ones.
Dr. Bardaji concludes by urging the EU and the UN to allow Israel to complete its mission. He says, “International pressure should be focused on our enemies, and in this case on Hamas, not our friends and saviors. Israel should feel our support so that Hamas senses its isolation and feels that it is within the Israeli soldiers reach.”
For readers interested in informed security analyzes we highly recommend reading Dr. Bardaji and his colleagues on their GEES website in English and Spanish. Topics include European relations with the United States, the European Union, and the Middle East. It is a treasure trove of informed opinion and facts.”

Fourth Amendment takes beating from ruling
?
By Kent Bush
Augusta Gazette
Thu Jan 15, 2009, 08:43 AM CST
Augusta, Kan. –
Hopefully when President-elect Barack Obama had a ceremonial tea party with Supreme Court justices Wednesday, he informed the nine robed regulators that he would prefer it if they preserved a few constitutional rights.
Obama renewed a sporadically observed presidential tradition of meeting with justices from the highest court in the land before taking office. Bill Clinton enjoyed a festive appearance before he took office, meeting with supporters on the steps of the court before having a friendly meeting with justices.
But due to increased security measures in place 16 years later, Obama was secreted into the sheltered garage and escorted into a private hour-long meeting attended only by Obama, Vice President elect Joe Biden, the justices and some of their staff.
Clinton was the last President to take part in this formality. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney did not attend such a meeting.
The meeting may have been cordial, but it is unlikely that there was a great deal of backslapping going on. When Obama is sworn in next week by Chief Justice John Roberts – with his hand on the same Bible Abraham Lincoln used at his inauguration – it will be the first time in history that a President is administered the oath of office by a justice whose confirmation he opposed. Obama and Biden both voted against the confirmation of Roberts and justice Samuel Alito, Bush’s two appointees to the bench.
Given the court’s ruling Wednesday, it is unlikely that Obama will enjoy his relations with the high court during his tenure.
The court decided in a 5-4 vote that a violation of constitutional rights was not necessarily enough to overturn a conviction.
That is a chilling vote for those who fear slippery slope issues when it comes to how our laws are enforced.
The ruling seems to overturn a principle that existed before our union was even formed. Sir William Blackstone, whose writings influenced many of the framers of the constitution, wrote, “It is better that ten guilty persons escape than one innocent suffer.”
The principle goes back much further than Blackstone. According to the Book of Genesis,
Abraham argued with God when God was considering destroying Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham pleaded with God until the He agreed not to destroy the immoral cities if even 10 righteous people were found.
From the resulting plume of smoke, it became obvious that 10 righteous people was still too high a standard for those early cities. But God himself seemed to agree to let thousands of guilty go unpunished due to a few righteous people living in their midst.
The Supreme Court does not agree with the Supreme Being.
The case involved an Alabama man who was arrested based on a warrant which was no longer valid. The arresting officer found the expired warrant on a neighboring county’s web site. Unfortunately, the computer system in the neighboring county had not been updated after the warrant expired.
After his unjust arrest, the suspect was searched and illegal drugs and an unloaded gun were found on his person and in his vehicle.
The arguments in the case centered on the record keeping rather than a logical flow of information. The officers had no probable cause to search this man – who happened to be committing crimes – other than false information against him.
The justices focused on whether suppressing the evidence would improve police record keeping. The truth is, the man should never have been arrested. If he weren’t arrested, he could not have been legally searched.
The Fourth Amendment took a beating from this ruling.
According to the court, you can’t have illegal searches or seizures unless some backwoods sheriff’s office forgets to update its computerized records.
According to his majority opinion, Chief Justice John Roberts said evidence may be used “when police mistakes are the result of negligence such as that described here, rather than systemic error or reckless disregard of constitutional requirements.”
Most police mean well and take care to do the right thing. But there are bad guys in every line of work and giving those bad guys an open door won’t make this a safer country.
We have to be very careful when we determine how people may be held against their will by government agents.
This ruling allows law enforcement to make mistakes and still affect an arrest. The man was committing crimes, but his misdeeds would never have been discovered if record keepers were doing their jobs.
Justice isn’t served by this ruling.

That is somewhat unbelievable! The Constitution is the supreme law of the land, it is the guiding ruler for all other laws in the United States. But to rule that a violation of Constitutional laws is not enough to overturn a conviction is the same as saying that the Constitution is meaningless! It also states that all other laws are meaningless too! Its the same as there is no laws in this country for if a simple violation of the supreme law is not valid. Then no laws have any merit or enforceability to it. It also means there is no need or power to the Supreme Court of the United States. For it is their job to rule on a question of whether something is a violation of the Constitution or a law is Constitutional. If it means nothing whether either is or is not constitutional. Why are they to decide in the first place?
According to this geek, Obama has 4 years to save the world. Climate change craziness is going to cost us mega bucks in regulations and taxes. I can just see the future, our lives will controlled by the greenies and all emissions must stop even your breathing and personal excrement.

This Miracle Brought to You by America’s Unions
from: emptywheel
They’re calling it a miracle–the successful landing of a US Airways jet in the Hudson and subsequent rescue of all 155 passengers. They’re detailing the heroism of all involved, starting with the pilot and including cabin crew, ferry crews, and first responders. What they’re not telling you is that just about every single one of these heros is a union member.
There’s the pilot:
What might have been a catastrophe in New York — one that evoked the feel if not the scale of the Sept. 11 attack — was averted by a pilot’s quick thinking and deft maneuvers,
[snip]
On board, the pilot, Chesley B. Sullenberger III, 57, unable to get back to La Guardia, had made a command decision to avoid densely populated areas and try for the Hudson,
[snip]
When all were out, the pilot walked up and down the aisle twice to make sure the plane was empty, officials said.
Sullenberger is a former national committee member and the former safety chairman for the Airline Pilots Association and now represented by US Airline Pilots Association. He–and his union–have fought to ensure pilots get the kind of safety training to pull off what he did yesterday.
Then there are the flight attendants:
One passenger, Elizabeth McHugh, 64, of Charlotte, seated on the aisle near the rear, said flight attendants shouted more instructions: feet flat on the floor, heads down, cover your heads.
They are members of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA. Yesterday’s accident should remind all of us that flight attendants are first and foremost safety professionals–they should not be treated like cocktail waitresses.
There are the air traffic controllers:
The pilot radioed air traffic controllers on Long Island that his plane had sustained a “double bird strike.”
They’re represented by the National Air Traffic Controllers Association. Someday, they’ll rename National Airport for the work these men and women do to keep us safe in the air.
There are the ferry crews:
As the first ferry nudged up alongside, witnesses said, some passengers were able to leap onto the decks. Others were helped aboard by ferry crews.
They’re represented by the Seafarers International Union. They provide safety training to their members so they’re prepared for events like yesterday’s accident.
There are the cops and firemen:
Helicopters brought wet-suited police divers, who dropped into the water to help with the rescues.
They’re represented by the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association and the Uniformed Firefighters Association and Uniformed Fire Officers Association (IAFF locals). They’re the men and women who performed so heroically on 9/11–and they’ve been fighting to make sure first responders get the equipment to do this kind of thing.
Bob Corker and Richard Shelby like to claim that union labor is a failed business model.
But I haven’t heard much about Bob Corker and Richard Shelby saving 155 people’s lives.
The Bush administration employed military force in two arenas, Afghanistan and Iraq. Obama has said that he approves of the Afghanistan war and plans to intensify it. So what Clinton’s “smart power” theme really comes down to is We won’t do dumb things like the Iraq war.
Hillary Clinton, however, voted for the Iraq war, so she’s a doubtful carrier of the “smart power” message, at best. The “smart power” theme is one more instance of the incoming administration’s lack of seriousness in its public pronouncements. Whether it will be equally unserious when the need arises for action, time will tell.

Dr. Gary Cass
Christian Anti-Defamation League
Dear Dr. Cass,
Thank you for your email warning me about a great evil that will occur during the inauguration festivities. I had no idea this would be the kind of thing we’d see at the inauguration:
The inauguration of Barack Obama as the President of the United States is going to be historic for many reasons, not all of them good. Obama’s inauguration may help move race relations forward in America, but Obama’s inaugural events are a major step backwards for historic Christian values. CADC must issue this WARNING message: Don’t let your children watch!
National events ought to unify and elevate the nation by celebrating what is virtuous, such as God and patriotism. Obama is making a terrible mistake by polluting his inaugural events with sexual sin. Some one ought to remind him that he wasn’t elected mayor of Sodom.
[...]
To ensure no one misses the perversion, the Inaugural parade will include a homosexual marching band with their rainbow flags flying proud with millions of our nation’s children and Christians watching.
A “homosexual marching band!” Is nothing sacred? One can only imagine the kind of vile things they do with their piccolos. Hmmmmmm…all those valves and ridges, the conical bore, the high-pitched whistle of a well blown measure–it’s like a squeal, like the squeal of a pig, a fleshy, lustful pig. The kind of pig that tempts a man beyond his ability to resist. Like that pig, Porky, in those old Warner Brothers cartoons.
You turn on the teevee to watch a little Bugs Bunny and all of a sudden there’s Porky, pantless, teasing you with his siren-like stutter, causing you to think wicked thoughts. And before you know it, you’ve whipped out a piccolo and you’re going all Bill O’Reilly with it, huffing and puffing and squealing like Porky until Ofjoshua comes in and sees you and starts laughing. And then, her sister and all her friends start making those comments. “Are you OK, JC,” they’ll ask, “you’re walking kind of funny.” Then they giggle. They giggle and make pig noises and piccolo whistles.
You know what I mean, don’t you Gary. We’ve all been there. Those of us with anti-The-Gay ministries, anyway. It’s part of the job. It’s what happens when you think about The Gay every waking minute. Now Obama is going to introduce it to the rest of America. The evil b@stard.
Heterosexually yours,
Eight Years in Eight Minutes

Jwink…while I normally abhore the idea of more laws, I must agree with you on this one. The other day I saw a woman sitting at a stoplight, yakking away on her cell phone. The light turned green and she pulled out…right in front of a firetruck that had its lights/siren activated as well as honking its large air horn. She was oblivious…and had the firefighter not been diligent, the yakking woman would have been t-boned.

You are WAY above the heads of most, and those are the ones who, without any justification, call you names and label you a nut.
I am one of the few who do appreciate your posts, so I hope you please do keep posting, if for no other reason, then to antagonize and intimidate those who are unable or unwilling to see the wisdom of your posts.
AmericanWay is another who, in the past, posted something similar to what you did yesterday, and he tried to use very simple terms the others might understand. His approach was to describe the football game, and the 2 groups of fans aligning themselves (blindly) to one side or the other, while both of the teams consipired on the field to use the conflict for THEIR OWN gain. (Millionaire Ball players & team owners, being watched by fans who can barely afford the $6 Beers & $6 Hotdogs & the $150 tickets for the ballgame.)
Even the football game, I’m afraid, zoomed way above the heads of most here who would rather debate Global Warming, Gays, and Their Right to Free Government Handouts.
Even when the SHTF, these idiots will not even understand what went so wrong.
Maybe ignorance is bliss afterall.

This Miracle Brought to You by America’s Unions
from: emptywheel
———————————————–
I guess that 88% of working Americans who are not owned by a Union are not very heroic.
A trades-union raises wages (aside from the legitimate and economic means notice in Chapter VI) by restricting the number of apprentices who may be taken into the trade. This device acts directly on the supply of laborers, and that produces effects on wages.
If, however, the number of apprentices is limited, some are kept out who want to get in. Those who are in have, therefore, made a monopoly, and constituted themselves a privileged class on a basis exactly analogous to that of the old privileged aristocracies.
But whatever is gained by this arrangement for those who are in is won at a greater loss to those who are kept out. Hence it is not upon the masters nor upon the public that trades-unions exert the pressure by which they raise wages; it is upon other persons of the labor class who want to get into the trades, but, not being able to do so, are pushed down into the unskilled labor class.
These persons, however, are passed by entirely without notice in all the discussions about trades-unions. They are the Forgotten Men.

No it’s not Socialism. The Unions are excluding people from the Union, to bolster the wages of a few workers, at the expense of the rest.
That’s Thugism.
But fortunately, the Union model is rapidly falling apart. Look at how the Unions have made industry prosper, like the very airlines you mention.
Without bailouts, your airlines & auto makers would have went bankrupt long ago.
Even with the bailouts, American Union jobs are rapidly declining and the price of American labor is sending jobs overseas.

Those words mean a lot to me, I’m comforted knowing that there are still some on this blog who haven’t been afflicted with that terrible disease of Cranial Rectitus.
I enjoy antagonizing people, that’s for sure. But intimidate, I don’t want to do that at all. And I hope I don’t come off like that. I just don’t let insults bounce off of me, I don’t, nor will I ever turn the other cheek. I am not a Christian (per se) and if I were, I’d be a terrible one.
When the SHTF, I will NOT feel sorry for these folk’s. I’ll figure, if you’re shooting at civilians, that you’re the enemy. That goes for the uniformed as well as the thug trying to steal, cheat and rob from those who had the insight to protect themselves.
I hope that these people are well aware of that and know that among true patriots (and not those who just wave a flag around while saying, “thank you for the service to your country” or singing some empty Lee Greenwood song) the thoughts that I have are NOT unique to me or you.
The difference twixt me and most other’s on here that are like minded to me are my convictions to 9-11 truth. That alone makes me an outcast and a pariah on here. And in that way, I know that I’m right.
They tried to end the guts of the Constitution during Ruby Ridge, then they tried with Waco, next with OKC and they finally went uber alles with 9-11. The blanket (non) definition of “terrorist” backed “We The People” against a wall.
Uniforms better start deciding which they love more:
a) being tough guys, working for rich bankers or
b) their families and their countrymen.
But with shows like “24″ and this new POS “Homeland Security..blah blah blah” they are glamorizing the Darth Vader, shaved head, pumping ‘roids thug life.
There’s more of us than them.
If folk’s would halt their mortgage payments, maybe it would be easy going. But this blog reminds me of how ignorant, helpless and blind our schools have made us.
Kill your television,s, use them for target practice.
The Socialists in Europe Back Down Again – Cowers to Russia who holds Europe by the Balls
You would think those Socialists in the EU had the best Government/Economic/Socialist model. They are so much ahead of the US in fighting Global Warming and becoming Energy Independent, yet somehow, they still need Energy from Russia, and they succomb to the demands of the Russians, and must HOPE that the military of the US is there to defend their sorry as ses, again.

Actually, now that I have even mention the chance of my going, how many do you think will not show up just in case?

Actually, I know someone who did that once. It was an old tube TV, and it took several shots of .223 to get through that thick glass. Heard it was one heck of a show.
Ripe for Revolution and Retaking by Russia:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jan/18/eu-riots-vilinius
Eastern Europe braced for a violent ’spring of discontent’Riots and street battles are set to spread through Bulgaria, Romania and the Baltic states as inflation, unemployment and racism fuel tension, reports Jason Burke
Several shots of .223?
I doubt it.
A .223 round could go through almost a dozen peices of wood, sheet rock, and many other things with no problem.
How exactly is it that a piece of TV tube glass would stop it?
Jim, have you heard of the PNAC?
They spell out in their dossier “Rebuilding America’s Defenses” that we have lots of work to do in order to gain American hegemony throughout the world. That since the Cold War is over, we essentially need a new enemy. And the piece de resistance, we need “A New Pearl Harbor” to make short work out of it and that it would “bring the people together” to get the ball rolling.
Too many coincidences such as Marvin Bush being CEO of Securicom (security firm for WTC and Logan Airport) up until the 10th of September 2001.
That’s just one mere coinkidink.
I hope you find time to look it up and research it.
I sure didn’t want to believe the “our government” could do those things, but I find some solace knowing that it hasn’t been “our government” since JFK got it.

It was almost 2 inches thick, and the shooter was 100 yards away. I wasn’t there, maybe he missed several shots.
Nathan, don’t get technical on me!
JimJohnson,
Even at 100 yards a .223 round could easily go through 2 inches of glass.
The only kind of glass which would stand a chance would be bullet resistent glass which is several layers of glue, plastic, and glass together.
Not trying to be technical, just saying that a TV Glass wouldn’t stop a .223 round.
Nathan –
The Anchor, Friday evening? It might be fun to meet some folks; some again, some for the first time.

No, but I have now! I’ll look into it. I’m not surprised such a group exists.
Pleefer, I think you overestimate the intelligence levels of Americans. We are now the minority.
By definition, 50% are below average. That was before the last 40 years of public education indoctrination.
Now I think below average is closer to 75%.
.30-06’s do a good job.
It takes a while for 7.62x.39 to mangle a teevee though.
I shoot them from the back, it’s a much better show.
Even a 7.62 X 39 round would make swiss cheese of a TV.
If we are talking about destruction, that is a different issue. Of course one small round will not destroy a TV, but it will easily go through it.
GMC70,
I agree. I am simply wondering how many of the liberals will refuse to show now that they know there is a chance I will be there.
The shining example of tolerance they are.
double ought buck does a pretty good job of mangling stuff. :)
Oh I know Jim, and it’s shameful to have some third world countries that are “better” educated than we are.
I’m not denegrating those third world countries, sometimes I even envy the life (aside from the dictator’s and warlord’s and famine…).
The movie “Idiocracy” is one of my favorite movies, not for its big budget effects, stellar acting, Shakespearean script or big name star attraction (it has none of the above). What it has is a GRAND warning and it holds up a mirror for all of us. It describes our “culture” to a T.
Rent it, if you ever think of it.

Picture Tube Implosion IS Possible – But You Really Need To Work at It!
As noted elsewhere in this document, picture tube implosion is a hazard but under normal conditions, quite unlikely. Someone wrote:
“I heard somewhere that in the early days of TV, the tubes had a tendency to implode at the drop of a hat. (Due to poor design?) In order to prevent flying glass, the sets had a plastic sheet in front of the screen. Obviously, modern sets no longer have this. How safe are modern CRT screens in terms of impact damage etc?”
Well, it isn’t quite as simple as that….. However, even if CRT implosion is one of those highly unlikely events, the downside is that should it occur in just the wrong way, the consequences can be disastrous. So, I wouldn’t depend on the experiences below to guide you! Treat a CRT about the same way you would an armed nuclear bomb. OK, well maybe just 10 sticks of dynamite. :-)
(From: Dan Evens (dan.evens@hydro.on.ca).)
In high school, our electronics teacher did a demo for each class. He saved out an old black-and-white tube for each class and set up a place to break it. Put the tube on the ground by a brick wall, with a hammer suspended on a wire from the top of the wall. Did it on the driveway so that the glass would be easier to pick up. The tube was placed image-side down.
First he pulled the hammer back about 20 feet and just let it go. It bounced off the tube. This was to show that such tubes are pretty tough. Then he pulled the hammer back and gave it a pretty good shove, turning his back to the tube and moving quickly away from it. (Let’s face it, the guy could probably have found a safer way to do this.)
Palm sized chunks of glass flew 50 feet. The noise was quite impressive. The thickness of the image plate of the tube was also quite impressive. Kind of looked like a porthole on a submarine. This was from the tube of a small black-and-white TV, about 14 inches or so. One of the larger colour models might be a LOT more violent.
For sure, I mean with my Kalashnikov, it takes it a while to leave the object flat. But it zooms right through it.
I can’t afford 00 buck. I’ve shot it through one of them “Judge” breech loaded shotguns though. Crazyness.
Jim,
A swinging hammer does not have the penetrating power of a .223 round.
It would be much easier if you just concede the point.
“The movie “Idiocracy” is one of my favorite movies”
Saw it! And we are almost there!
I thought “V is for Vendetta” was much better though.
Not conceding a thing Nathan. Wasn’t there didn’t see it. A reliable source though. (Not that you are not.)
I wonder how those new wide screens would fair? LCD vs Plasma?
Pleefer,
The movie Idiocracy is a good one. I have watched it several times.
It is a perfect example of where we are going in this country if taken to the absurd.
Just look at some of the interviews done of voters after the election.
I like the ending to “V” a lot better. Surely it wouldn’t take a kid getting murdered by a thug to get people awake??
The thing in Oakland on New Years Day could have been a flash point…maybe it still percolates.
God, I don’t want the S to hit the fan…I know it’s coming. But it’s freaking me out.
Speaking of Idiocracy, the bottom 75% thought this was a serious movie. They didn’t see any humor to it at all.
Surprised it didn’t get an Oscar.
Jerry Springer could have easily moderated any one of the “debates”.
Rikki Lake should be the next Baba Wawa???
Taking it to the absurd is what makes the movie so relevant.
A couple of weeks ago, Joe Biden went to go see the “Benjamin Button” movie with his wife. It was sold out and the man who is “just a heartbeat away from being President” couldn’t get a seat!
But that’s not the issue…
The issue was that NO ONE recognized him in the packed theatre lobby. He had SS everywhere and still no one batted an eye. The only person who knew who he was , was the ticket booth girl and she was from another country!!!!!!!!!
I s&%t you not, look it up.
Save the Earth, stay home from the Messiah inauguration which is costing around $100,000. Twice Bushes. I think I will, I have better things to do. The beautiful people will be there in their jets,SUVs and their finery. The enviros can’t have it all.

Some of those in Eastern Europe may be better off when the SHTF. It’s like going back in time, to a simpler time, but much back-breaking hard manual labor is required. Not a bad trade-off if there’s not a war going on in your backyard. Agricluture is still a huge part of their economy.
Cheap land, rolling hills, beautiful country. Homes heated with wood stoves, water from wells, yet wired for electricty, telephone, satellite TV & Internet at the same time. Quite the mix of technologies from the old world & the new. The hybrid may be the form that survives.

Sorry folks, if you hated it and didn’t get it, you’re “one of them”.

Was hiking the hills walking through a hayfield in one of the Eastern European countries, and honest to God, I came across the farmer laying on his haystack fast asleep! (It was just after lunch time.)
Very friendly fellow, fortunately. They still use a scythe to cut hay, and that can of course, be a nasty weapon too.
Also was invited by one farmer and his family to have some of their homemade brandy. Had a little impromptu picnic in their very humble back yard, and enjoyed some very, very, strong brandy. (Made out of some local berry, not sure what kind.)
How often does that happen to strangers walkin thru a neighborhood in America? Say, Washington DC, for example.

Hell, neighbor’s barely speak to one another anymore.
I was a die-hard scout growing up, made it to Life Scout, but got too old to finish. I put my boy in and there may have been 3 or 4 sets of parent’s that would look you in the eye when you spoke if they spoke to you at all.
And none of them knew how to tie a bowline or half hitch. And you should have seen them “safely build a fire”…Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzz.
I promptly pulled my kid outta there.
Sad day when scouting becomes nothing more than a trademark for Coleman and a status symbol for the parent’s.

You probably get many of the bad reactions because of your own bad attitude.
And bowline knots are easy.

much trickle up, as was providen by the previous unStimulus Package.

Hopefully, Obama will realize unlike some of you that our Constitution created three equal branches of federal government – and the excutive has no sway over decisions reached by the juducial. Unless, it’s O.K. for libs to change the constitution.

Meanwhile those that cannot survive on their own, freely competiing against asian automakers – have to have big brother bail them out. Absolutely crazy logic: Americans worked in December – to pay union workers to Sit at home.
“It’s a strain to get someone to smile back at you in the supermarket. Holding the door open for the next person is a quaint thing of the past. And my kids’ have to feel like outcasts for saying please and thank you.”
Maybe you should take a good look at your own attitude, Pleefer…I never have trouble getting a smile in return, and”please” and “thank you” at appropriate times. If you treat people the way you would want to be treated, they usually reciprocate. You have said yourself that you’re angry and resentful…I’m sure your feelings and attitude come across loud and clear to others.

Mary,
Perhaps your husband should read half the crap you say about me on here first.
Do you plan on being the typical anti-Christian bigot you are to me if I show up?
Because I have no problem with calling you an idiot in front of your husband if you do.
Deal?
JimJohnson,
Are you going to find sources that prove Nathaniel’s and Hank’s posts are NOT falsehoods?

No. JimJohnson can’t, because their posts are falsehoods.
Mary,
I don’t think of myself as too important, I just know that there are several liberals here who have routinely made it a point to let me and everyone else know how much they detest me and would never show up to anything I am at.
That and they are afraid of me.
My husband couldn’t care less what I write on this blog about you or anyone else. And you can call me anything you want..but if you have “no problem calling me an idiot” in front of Dave, you will have a problem after you do it. Just giving you a fair warning…the rest is up to you!
I’m not worried about it, you don’t have the balls to show up anyway.
Mary,
I hate to tell you this, but I am not afraid of your husband.
I just don’t think your husband knows what an anti-Christian rude liberal hypocritial idiot for a wife he has.
And as I said, I won’t call you an idiot if you don’t start any of your crap with me.
Deal?
“That and they are afraid of me.”
LOL..you’re kidding right? Who would be afraid of you?
Mary,
Talk to Linda.
“I just don’t think your husband knows what an anti-Christian rude liberal hypocritial idiot for a wife he has.”
I thought you said you weren’t going to call me an idiot? See how you lie? And you say you’re Christian? LOL!!!
Tell you what, I’ll buy you a drink if you have the guts to show up.
Mary,
You didn’t say you would take the deal.
I offered it to you once before and you remained silent.
I will offer it again.
I won’t call you names, mention anything personal about you, or be overtly mean or rude.
In return you will do the same for me.
Deal?
yellow…nope, this moron was southbound on Waco at Murdock. OMG,…there are more of them out there?
I have never called you a name, except for the time you made fun of me about grieving for my nephew who was killed in a gun accident. I’ll never stoop to your level of immaturity.
Of course I’d treat you with respect if you should come Friday…I always have.
Gotta go…company’s coming and the house is a mess!
I’m angry because of the lack of humanity and courtesy I see on this blog and in the supermarket, not in spite of it. I am a product of my environment and (you evolutionary’s will love this) I am evolving in order to defend my self against the cretin’s of the World.
I smile all day long, I laugh when something is funny and get mad when it’s appropriate.
You spend your entire day’s on here bashing each other over the head with each of your own petty and trite argument’s. You spend all day long arguing about how to sharpen the blade that’s about to cut off your head’s.
I get on here trying to say that you ought to grab the blade from the one who’s sharpening it and you call me names. And when I have had enough and start retaliting, I’m a “nut” or “paranoid”. When I’m hit, I’ll hit back twice as hard. Hit me with a hammer? I’ll bulldoze your house. Call me Israel.
But don’t try and ass-ume my personality or how I am in public. You’re not even close to understanding me on this redundant blog.
I tried to be mellow on here, but your hubris got in the way and created a roadblock, an impasse. And I now have to step over it.
Mary,
I see you are now a liar in additon to an idiot.
The “deal” is not just for the party. It is a deal forever. Here on the blog, in person, at the party.
I never made fun of you about your nephew.
You are the typical liberal idiot who interjects a personal story and then when someone makes any comment you feign indignacne and claim they are making fun of you.
Get a life woman. I never made fun of your loss.
Perhaps you shouldn’t use it in a debate if you can’t handle any comments about it.
LOL!
Pleefer again personally represents his alternative to the two major political parties.
Nathaniel,
Did you find your source(s) that you used to make your 8:35 am post yesterday?
http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog/2009/01/open-thread-117-3/#comment-505235
Mary,
I don’t care if you have called me a name or not.
You have routinely mocked my faith, my being a Christian, and made fun of me personally.
So what if you didn’t call me name?
I suppose then it is alright if I say anything about you as a person, no matter how untrue, mocking, or demeaning, as long as I don’t call you a name?
How often does that happen to strangers walkin thru a neighborhood in America? Say, Washington DC, for example.
Well I can tell you that on one occassion when I was in DC for business I happened to step into Shelly’s Back Room for a smoke and a very distinguished gentleman who had a cigar locker there, invited me to share his table one cold and blustery day in the nations capital. He offered me a San Cristobal something or other from his private stock as I was a novice smoker.. So as I sat sipping my Glenmorangie scotch and he is cognac, he took some of his precious afternoon educating me on finer art of cigar smoking. This was on F Street, just two blocks from the White House.
Not exactly a picnic on a farm, but you have to make do with what’s available.
Former investment banker for Goldman Sachs, John R. Talbott has written in “Obamanomics” how the “bottom up” approach still advocated by Obama will turn things around.
Obama has also clearly said there is no plan to prosecute Torture-gate Bushies. I think that some other nations may raise this issue in the years to come. Canada has a citizen who suffered torture at the hands of Bush’s outsourcing countries. Canadians are very unhappy with having one of their own tortured. I can’t say I blame them. Many Bushies will never dare to go overseas on a vacation.
The inauguration is so huge because so many people are excited by the prospect of a returning of America to the citizens from the clutches of the huge corporations, lobbyists and their paid minions in Congress.
After what we have been through in the past eight years, America can use a great party celebrating the promise of a renewal of the American Dream
You guys can have a wake and play dirges for your failed, old ideas and your destroyed political party. America plans to party!
You spend your entire day’s on here bashing each other over the head with each of your own petty and trite argument’s.

A poet, a pawn and a king.
I’ve been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:

I pick myself up and get back in the race.”
That’s life!’

The inauguration is so huge because
Obama’s spending 160 million dollars of your money to promote it! Country is still 47/52% split. Plenty of money to waste for flying to WashD.C. hotels, food, transportation to see the event. Recession? Humbug!
Mass hysteria is not at all unusual. Joseph Goebbels made a fine example of it whenever Adolf Hitler spoke.

Obama Day should be first.
I wish that Obama was half the man that MLK was. MLK actually stood for the people.
And lo and behold, they killed him for it.
Obama has NO worries.
Oh Obama will walk on water for maybe up to a year.
The honeymoon is over then. And it’ll be over sooner if/when he makes some really big f-ups.
But he does bring Hope for Change. And for some here, he brings wet dreams.
“Obama Day should be first.”
You have a point there. But I heard they are planning on building the Obama Memorial directly in front of the Lincoln Memorial. But there has been some talk due to the recession that to save money they could simply tear out the Lincoln Statue and replace it with Obama’s. Perhaps an even greater savings would be realized if they just chopped off the bust.
OMG,…there are more of them out there?
Sadly, I’m afraid so. The only thing worse is the Hummer driver I saw today, chatting away.
Aaarrrgghh!!

Actually, they want to save American’s jobs (now bleeding them at half a million a month), and jump-start innovations for the future and bring sanity back to the financial markets.
The only bust of note is the entire Bush presidency.

Born in California, named after Joseph Stalin by his leftist parents, Jewish from his mother’s side (which is what counts), a loyal and longtime resident of Berkeley.
Actually, they want to save American’s jobs
Interesting comments by Obama on saving and creating the 3 million jobs.
First, you can never prove that Obama saved one job.
At that end of a given period, you can count the number of jobs and perhaps NEW jobs (which never existed before. But there is no way to count the jobs which he “saved”.
Regarding the jobs he DOES create in four years (sounds like God creating earth to me, but whatever): How will they prove these NEW jobs are directly the result of something very specific that Obama does?
It’s a win-win statement for him. Sounds nice. Means nothing.

monkeyhawk……..go to hell…….how dare you degrade those that have served this country………if they had not, you would never have had the opportunity to say what you say..
Most of us that served, don’t make a big deal out of it.
my dad served for almost three years in europe during wwii. and you are correct, he did not make a big deal out of it, yet he was very proud to have done so.he simply said he was doing his job.
My point was, Monkeyhawk didn’t degrade anyone.
libdave,
Not anyone, just the uniform, which anyone who has ever served would know is something you respect.
“Nathaniel” whimpers –
“I simply have no need to go around showing off my uniform just because and especially not because some pig like you is goading me into it.”
What’s the matter, boy?
Reduced to name-calling. (How typical for the CONs on this forum.)
There’s an old saying: “salute the uniform, not the man.” But you’re ashamed to show up at a patriotic celebration in it.
And you play the Victim Card yet again, whining that “Monkeyhawk” is goading and bullying you?
You were pretty cocky this morning when you posted:

“wichhick” chimes in –
“…how dare you degrade those that have served this country………if they had not, you would never have had the opportunity to say what you say..
If I didn’t say it they would have died in vain.
Bull, respect for the uniform, is like repsect for the flag, just empty patriotic pride. It is the principles that they represent that should be respected.
monkeyhawk.go to hell
libdave,
Perhaps to a liberal like you, there is no respect for the flag either. For me there is.
Bad comparison.
You show your respect for the principles that the flag stands for and the uniform stands for by also showing respect for both the flag and the uniform.
Do you think that anyone is going to believe you have any respect for any principles while you disrespect the very symbols of the principles you claim to support?
It is the principles not the symbols that are important, maybe some day you will understand. In the mean time I couldn’t give a fig what you believe about me.
libdave….and i hope you don’t respect monkeyhawks principles (lack of).by the way what is empty patriotic pride.?
libsave,
Symbols are very powerful things. Without the symbols how does one represent his respect for those principles?
libdave,
Do you deny that symbols have meaning? That they can be very powerful things?
Do you honestly think that if you show disrespect to the symbol of the very principles you claim to value that it is not a sign of disrespect to those very same principles?
I contend that the symbols are less important than the principles behind them. No more, no less. Folks that make a big deal out of those symbols without standing up for the principles they represent, are showing empty patriotic pride. All show and no go.
As Nathan well knows, the left and even some of the Libs on this blog do not reflect the attitude of most of Americans about those who have served in the military.
Must say, I haven’t run into a rat’s nest of hatred like this any place else but this blog. Is indeed full of some of the worst.
libdave, so what principles are you standing up for. why do you assume that respect and pride in the flag and the uniform equate to not standing up to the principles they represent? what principles do you presume that monkeyhawks stands up for?
Empty patriotsim is when you pussies won’t defend yourselves but want all of the freedom’s someone else died to give you.

I can understand why you are always on the blog. I’m sure any friends you once had have long since left you for someone who is fun to be around.
libdave,
So, exactly how does one reconcile standing up for the principles which the symbols of the flag and uniform represent while trashing those very symbols?
Yes, I can understand what you are saying about empty pride in the symbols if you don’t care about the principles, but what you are defending is MonkeyHawk very clearly trashing the uniform.
It is one thing to show empty pride in the symbols and a completely different thing to trash those symbols while trying to claim you have pride in the principles they stand for.
All show and no go. Who cares what someone thinks of your uniform. It matters not. My wife used to call my uniform, my army outfit, big deal.
libdave,
Who is all show and no go? You keep making this argument about empty pride in the symbols. Yet no one here is doing that.
If your attitude is who cares how someone treats the uniform then why do you even care about the principles they stand for then?
You sir, are the one all bent out of shape because someone refered to you uniform as a costume. In my book, all show and no go. If your going to get along in this world, your going to have to develop a thicker skin than that.
Libdave,
What sense does that make? You claim that I am all show and no go because I respect the uniform and flag?
What backwards world do you live in?
so libdave refuses to ask any questions posed to him…kind of sounds like monkeyhawk and others.libdave…what principles do you stand for……and it was good advice.thx
libdave…develop some thicker skin
I don’t repsond to posters that tell others to go to Hell. Ooops, let slip one of my principles.
My skin is plenty thick thank you. and go to hell.
Lets break this down some. You can have several different people here:
1. Someone who shows no respect for either the flag or uniform and doesn’t respect the principles they stand for either.
2. Someone who shows respect for the uniform and flag but doesn’t actually respect the principles they stand for.
3. Someone who shows no respect for the flag or uniform but actually respects the principles they stand for.
4. Someone who shows respect for the flag and uniform and respects the principles they stand for.
So which one are you libdave?
And answer me this question you keep avoiding:
What sense does it make to claim that you respect the principles that the flag and uniform stand for while trashing the very symbols (flag and uniform) of the principles you claim to believe?
You respect the flag and the uniform, but not the right of free speech. Monkeyhawk has that right, and so do we all.
Libdave,
So, while you claim to not respond to posters who tell someone to go to hell, you in turn have no problem with doing it yourself?
Again, what backwards world do you live in?
It is ok for you to tell wichhick to go to hell while claiming you are above responding to wichhick because of her saying it?
Libdave,
I am not saying that MonkeyHawk can’t say what he did, only that it is not respectful.
Do you understand the difference?
I did not show disrespect for the uniform, all I did was stick up for free speech. I, personally respect both the symbols and the principles they stand for. Climb off the high horse, before you fall and hurt yourself.

Just responding in kind.

wichhick I answered at 9:31.
I’d to stay and play, but this liberal, unlike your stereotypes, have to go earn a living.
libdave…….i was just exercising my free speech, i hope you come to my defense soon.
Hello what have we here?
Heh, this one jumped out at me.
“Do you deny that symbols have meaning? That they can be very powerful things?”
To the simpler minded of people this is of course true. It is also not particularly healthy. Symbols also have a way of getting people to act out or get themselves and others killed. Of course at least you can SEE a symbol. This may be part of why come clever person admonished against worshiping graven images. Noble idea, but of course written only to get folks to believe in things they can’t even see. Getting people to zealously believe in, fight and even die for the invisible, now THAT is the pinnacle of marketing.
DavidB,
Thanks for the link to the Inaugural Celebration. Apparently it’s looping until who knows when. Fine with me! I’ve seen James Taylor, John Mellencamp, Will I. Am, John Legend, and am currently watching Garth.
But what absolutely took my breath away was when the camera backed off the stage in front of the Lincoln Memorial to show the crowd lined up and down both sides of the Reflection Pool. Wow.
I’m sure there are some conservatives there, since a free concert is a free concert. LOL
Pred you would probably be very surprised to know that there are many conservatives that hope this prez succeeds in all that he tries. This is our country. Not my country. Not your country. Our prez also.
The liberals would like to change that but it is just a fact. I am sure many conservatives are there also.
BJ respect for a symbol for instance the American flag is different that worshiping something. I respect the sacrifice of the men who died for the freedoms I enjoy. Therefore I respect the flag because it has been used many times to stand for the battles of these brave men and women.
Disrespecting the flag in my mind is just like disrespecting the sacrifices of the brave men who fought for the right to raise it in triumph after battles well fought.
Being honorable should not require a quid pro quo.
One does it, if one ever does, because it is the right thing to do.
