Nation’s capital shone Tuesday

Washington, D.C., did a remarkable job coping with an Inauguration Day crowd estimated at 1.8 million. There were reports of temporarily lost children, medical emergencies and suspicious packages. And investigations are under way of the checkpoint problems that kept thousands of ticketholders from their seats. But there were no fatalities connected to the four-day celebration, and the Secret Service-led security operation involving 50,000 law enforcement and military personnel made no arrests Tuesday – quite a feat for a city long ago dubbed the nation’s “murder capital.”

Everyone has their own stories of inauguration day and what it meant to them individually. Today, I read the comments of two bloggers and I was moved by the words of both.

The first one was told by our own favorite cartoonist, Richard Crowson. He drew a fine cartoon too!

The second was told by a blogger who won two tickets to attend from a lottery held by Alaska’s Senator Lisa Murkowski. His story made me feel like I had been there!

My only disappointment was the pictures I saw the next morning of the mall. The 180 tons of trash left behind. It would have been nice if responsible citizens could have saved the gov some money and cleaned up after themselves.

mxy thank you for once more for affirming that you are a person incapable of maturity. It however has nothing to do with your political party and more to do with the deficiency in your entire persona.

BTW mxy we don’t have ‘people’. We have employees to whom it would be demeaning to be called ‘my people’.

    How totally democrat(ic) of you.

It would be “demeaning” to refer to your employees as “people?”

Yeah. That might force you to treat them as human beings rather than expenses.

You really don’t get it, “okobserver,” do you?

Why Monkey are you and mxy both psychics. Since neither of you know me and therefore know nothing about my business you are just whistling in the dark aren’t you.

The length some dims will go to. I thought winning the election was going to make you dims happy forever. Three days in office and already you and mxy and linda and other dims are shooting spit balls. What happened to happily everafter.

    Linda,

Thanks for the Mudflats link. Truly inspiring! I especially had to chuckle when he described Dick Cheney in the wheelchair as looking like Mr. Potter in It’s a Wonderful Life! He was so right!!

    Sorry, “okobserver” –

You’re the one who said considering your employees as “people” would be demeaning.

Much better to treat them as a line in a ledger.

And then you come up with, ““…what was it I didn’t get?

    If you have to ask…

Monkey you truly are an enigma. There is no logic in your posts most of the time. Every corp list payroll expenses on a ledger, true. This doesn’t mean they think of their employees as ‘their people’.

You and mxy are clueless as your posts show.

If I’m an enigma, “okobserver,” you’re painfully obvious.

Over the years I’ve worked for and with people, supervised people, hired people, fired people and I’ve never turned my back on the fact they are people; individuals with individual lives, family pressures, personal quirks, hidden talents….

You seem to stop thinking about the people who make your business possible after looking at the ledger.

Yeah, they’ve been my teammates, my colleagues, my co-workers, my helpers, my advisers… and yes, my people.

You obviously think of them only as numbers of dollars out of your pocket.

    How very sad for you.
