If next year’s must-see GOP primary – for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sam Brownback – were held now, Jerry Moran (in photo) would beat Todd Tiahrt 41 to 25 percent. That’s according to a poll conducted for Moran’s campaign by Glen Bolger of Public Opinion Strategies. “While it is still very early in the primary campaign, it is currently a lot better to be Jerry Moran than it is to be Todd Tiahrt,” Bolger said in a polling memo quoted by the Washington Post. We’d say it’s Tiahrt’s move, but he already made one Tuesday, announcing a Senate Campaign Steering Committee notable for its recognizable names (including Wichita big hitters Jack Pelton, Bill Hanna, Steve Martens and Jay Allbaugh) and geographical diversity.

Looks like Teahrt’s supporters are right out of Wichita’s “Good Old Boy Network.”
Here’s the battle:
Todd’s got the twice-born roll-on-the-floor-speakin’-in-tongues faction of the Kansas Republic Party.
Jerry’s got sane people.
Only problem is, the Kansas Republic Party has spent the past decade or so black-balling the sane from their ranks.
Those of us in Eastern Kansas are pretty comfortable with an east/west split in our senatorial representation. Nancy Kassebaum balanced Bob Dole and even when it was Sam the Sham we had someone who knew where, say, Parsons was.
Moran’s only real problem is getting the population from eastern Kansas to buy in to a bi-western Kansas Senate delegation. Eastern Kansasism is Kathleen’s secret weapon in the state’s most populous counties.
Tiahrt will concentrate on the primary. He’s got the twice-born and the angry white males wrapped up. Moran’s support might be broad but it’s shallow. Tiahrt will gin up the evangelicals and steal the Republic Party primary and lose like the Detroit Lions in the regular season.
Either way it works, Moran or Tiahrt will be dead politically. Anyone want to speculate where either of them might choose to retire?
Come on, get off it. Tiahart will come to his senses and stay in the House and not challenge Jerry. The only reason you keep this story alive is you see a chance to get rid of Tiahart. You can’t any other way so you cling to this fantasy. Moran will make short work of Sebelius and Tiahart will keep his House seat and all the WE Blog lefties will go wah, wah, wah.
In my opinion we have no better representative than Jerry and if wants to be senator, that would be great.
Thank goodness, Moran is a much better pick for the future of the Republican party than Tiahrt. Moran is capable of thinking for himself, while Tiahrt is a toady who just takes orders. Don’t worry about Tiahrt though, if he is no longer in Congress he’ll become a lobbyist for Boeing.
Jerry Moran will be a voice for the people. His honesty and integrity will be best for the people of all of Kansas, not just those in the west. Jerry will work on the behalf of all, and those in aviation circles will be well represented in Washington. Todd’s a good man but his background with Boeing and Wichita’s aerospace group leaves him less diversified than Mr Moran. Todd doesn’t have as well rounded background to represent the majority of the farmers and ranchers who supply the world with food products grown here in Kansas. When was the last time did the Eagle post a story from the mouth of Mr. Tiahrt that dealt with anything other than the aerospace companies? Kansas needs an honest, ethical, well rounded representative who will work on all Kansans’ behalf to support the working independents to the CEO’s and aerospace employees’
Every editorial written by Tiahrt contains many words. There’s one in today’s paper. It contains many words that say nothing, like always.
Jerry Moran will act for all Kansans’ in all aspects of our great state, not just aerospace. He will protect and provide great leadership for our senior citizens as well as those affected by our aviation industry. A vote for Jerry Moran will be one of wisdom and truly support a man who resides in the state he represents. Jerry stays in touch with his constituents, lives amoung them and is truly the working man and womans best voice for Kansas.

I want some of what you are smoking.
Jerry Moran probably does have the early advantage, but the conservative wackos that are Kansas Republican primary voters will be coming out in oodles for Sam Brownback in his bid for governor that very same day….who do you think those kids are going to vote for in the US Senate primary.
Doesn’t matter that much…neither Moran nor Tiahrt could beat Kathleen Sebelius statewide.
http://kansasjackass.blogspot.com
It will be a positive contribution to Kansas if either of these two men are eliminated as an elected official. If one goes in the primary, that’s one down…
First its way to early for polls to be anything close to being accurate, Second Tiahrt has a large stockpile of funds if he chooses to run which I dont think he even has yet.
Kanasasjackass, Sebelius running and winning a Senate seat is dependant on her successfully solving the current budget problems, if she fails then she will lose and the Democrats had better start lining up candidates for the Governor the Senate Moran’s district etc. Potentially we could have more than half the state offices open. Senate 1st district, Sec of state, If Mckinny runs for gov that opens treasurer, If Tiahrt runs that opens his seat and much of the legislature will run for those seats could be interesting
Jerry Moran, I am sure, is an honorable man. But I have not, and do not, see many outstanding things he
has done for the State? How many company’s bringing jobs has he moved or convienced to come to Kansas? What has he done for higher educatioin,
health care? I think not. Why do we continually
move politicians around like checkers on a board
and never seem to let the State of Knasas be
the King? Find fresh blood and give Kansas what she deserves – real leaderhip.
ChrisfromCrapTown is wrong again.
Word on the street is that Todd “stick a knife in him” Tiahrt is done with the House of Reps whether he wins the primary or no.
Any change from WorstCongressmanEver Tiahrt will be a welcome change.
Worst Congressman ever would be Barney Fag. Followed closely by the Sanchez sisters and the Carolyn twins from New York Mahoney and McCarthy).
Jerry Moran will not let Sebelius get away with her outrageous lies like Shallenberger and Barnett did. The people of Kansas will see through the wicked witch of Ohio for what she is, a failed liberal with no good ideas for Kansas. Maybe Kathy can go back to Ohio and run against George Voinovich in 2012. There are enough whack jobs in Cleveland, Toledo and Columbus who would vote for her, simply because she is a Democrat.
Chrisfrommactown, I have some more pathetic Congressmen: how about Barbara Lee, who voted against military force against the terrorists? How about John Lewis, who hates all white people? How about Pete Stark, an atheist who hates anyone who believes in God? How about Maxine Waters, who is an avowed Communist?
How is Sebelius fresh blood and real leadership? She hasn’t had a job in the private sector in nearly 30 years. Look at the hole in Kansas’ budget. That’s not all the fault of the legislature. Who signs and/or vetoes the budget? That’s right, liberal drones. Your hero Sebelius, the politician bought and paid for by Tiller the Killer’s blood money.
Dang I love it when cons fight. NOBODY good gets hurt.
