How long before the race riots start?
The ones in Oakland that the MSM is currently ignoring don’t count.
So who ISN’T ignoring them, Hank? Obviously someone, since you posted about it.

Nice way to usher in a new President of the United States, Hank. I expected something better from a man who served his country for so long. Snide remarks or not, this is a historic occasion, and one the whole country should be proud of. I can see I’m wrong: still people around who are stuck in the fifties.
JMWalker,
Just chalk it up as Hank’s “eggs”. It’s all he has left. (Old duck eggs, more than likely. ;) )
lmao!
Scalia looks like a Catholic Cardinal in a black robe. :)
Cheney in a wheelchair. Hurt his back moving boxes.
WTF?
He couldn’t hire someone to move for him?!
Or was he moving evidence?
hehehe
Fresh duck eggs!
And the sun is shining in D.C.!
Cheer, pray, do a happy dance, smile, grin, wave your arms, jump up and dance with glee, etc., etc.
The Reagan-inspired nightmare is over, done in by the incompetence of the frat boy.
But remember, the slog back has just started. We’re in for a rough ride; there is a lot of damage to undo.
Big grin on my face all morning. I don’t even care what the cons think; they had their day, now they can slink back into the dark bowels of history.
Dennis
I knew you’d enjoy that, Hank! hehehe
Tipper’s looking good.

Dear Hank,
As you’re watching the ceremony, please try to forget that Obama will push for policies that reduce AGW, such as carbon taxes.

We should have had riot in December 2000, when Worst.President.Ever. stole the Presidency and told democracy in America to drop dead.
There’s W. now on TV, shucking and jiving like he doesn’t know he’s the worst POS on the planet.

And your comments are? Hypocrite, thy name is reg.
CapnAmerica doesn’t seem to know that Obama is tring to unify. He talks from both sides of his generous mouth. He also doesn’t know what people think of his worthless divisive crap.
plz read your post on the open thread for your “positive” comments. thx
A LOOOOONG time to wait for this day.
Now? It is only a few minutes until the most reviled administration in history ends.
I prepare to raise, for the first time in eight years, the American flag!
Here comes Obama. He looks like he’s thinking, I earned it, dude, I earned it . . .
jm, plz read your post on the open thread for your “positive” comments. thx
Capn,
WE earned it.
Before I ignore this thread, I have a question for Hank.
Riots? Why?
Is this something you normally expect when a president is sworn in? Or do you know something we don’t? Does Aryan Nations Brotherhood or the KKK or whatnot have something planned? They keeping you informed?
Inquiring minds want to know.
bluejay…what a true American……
outlander,
Obama may be all for unity, but I’m for revenge.
You eff with American democracy, you eff with me.
BTW, when I mentioned the egg throwing and boo-ing, that was “just fact” as Raptor said earlier.
W’s motorcade was pelted by eggs–he had to radically speed up to avoid “incoming” . . .
I have muted the sound while the Christo fascist bigot Warren speaks.
BUSH PRESIDENTIAL ADMINISTRATION DEATH WATCH

Hallejuah!
Let freedom ring!
Let the white dove sing!
Let all cons know that today is day of reckoning.
Now the weak are strong.
And the rights been wrong.
Roll the stone away let the guilty pay.
It’s independence day!
Wow . . . so few regrets from the reich-wing seeing their poster boy stand down.
He brought them everything they wanted–low taxes and expensive wars and all we got out of it was . . . a slightly worn pair of shoes off of an Iraqi.
capnamerica……..you are really going to stand up……..heck i figured you for a coward
Arethra still has it, doesn’t she? :)

In answer to your second set of question, Hick, the answer is “no” and “no.”
But thanks for playing . . .
As the TV guy said, even though they haven’t administered the oath of office, as of noon Eastern, Obama is officially the president of the United States.
Sweet.

Nice arrangement by Williams with Perlman and Yo’, et al. :)

Dennis
Well, he botched the oath. Where’s his teleprompter when he needed it!
The CHIEF JUSTICE botched it. And Obama knew it too!
My flag flies again. It looks magnificent in the bright sunshine of a truly beautiful day!
Ah Hank, classy as ever.
Dennis
Maybe he should have memorized it to please you, Hank.
I don’t know, Predestined. Thirty-nine words. Shame he couldn’t get it right.
BlueJay,
What flag is that? Does it have the hammer crossed with a sickle?
bluejay…..classy as ever
I’d rather have him botch the oath than botch the job the way…
I thought BlueJay burned his flag. Oh, that’s what I get for believing a pathological liar.
Repeating an oath in little chunks like that isn’t all that easy. I know you’ve done it, Hank. I have, too, as a government employee. Plenty of brides and grooms have done the same with their wedding vows. I would imagine there was a lot going through his mind at that moment.
Speaking of “the job”…
Looks like the Big O will be continuing much of the foreign relations and domestic security policies employed by President Bush.
Maybe those daily terror briefings have tempered…
Very good speech by the “O-man.”
Now, it begins…
Today is the first day of the rest of our lives. Make it a good one!

The Chief Justice couldn’t even get the words of the oath of office correct. He’s already missed on several ‘decisions’ too. Another of those banes of the bush legacy.
Ohmygosh, he didn’t swear the oath of office on a Koran like the reich-wingers were absolutely sure that he would.
I’m sure that they’ll apologize for baseless rumor-mongering.

The only thing really exceptional here is that what we do is in fact exceptional. We have had a change of power, a change of party, a change in regime, if you like, and there are no tanks in the streets, no soldiers marching on the capital. It’s normal. It is normal to us, of course; we’ve done this now for 200+ years. For much of the rest of the world, it is still quite unusual.
For that, no matter what your political inclination, you should be thankful. And sorry, JR, no attempted coup, as you sorta predicted some time ago. It was silly then, and even sillier now. But then, you’re used to looking silly. I guess you’ll have to take down your barricades.
I’ve actually watched exactly . . . well, none of the ceremony. I’ve got got transcripts to read, work to do.

Capn, understand from your personal perspective, but from a historical viewpoint, Bush is not the worst President ever:
that would be Harry Truman
Presidential Approval Ratings, Since 1950
Below are the highest and lowest approval ratings ever received by a president in a national opinion poll throughout his presidency.
President Highest Rating Lowest Rating
Harry Truman 87% 23%
Dwight Eisenhower 79% 48%
John F. Kennedy 83% 56%
Lyndon Johnson 79% 35%
Richard Nixon 67% 24%
Gerald Ford 71% 37%
Jimmy Carter 75% 28%
Ronald Reagan 68% 35%
George H.W. Bush 89% 29%
Bill Clinton 73% 37%
George W. Bush 90% 29%
This has been a short fact break. Now please continue your meaningless ranting and hate.

It is impossible
To never tell the truth
But the reality is,

I think my thoughts when-
I don’t even need to
I never look back because I don’t even want to

Because I’m getting away with murder!

No news like old news, eh?
No news like old news, eh?
Not sure what you mean. I thought it was an amusing contrast and, hopefully, a metaphor for each presidency (we already know how Bush’s tenure turned out!).
And now it begins, today is the first day of the chosen one’s four year campaign for the next four years.
And now it begins, today is the first day of the chosen one’s four year campaign for the next four years.
You’re confused, Hank. That was the last guy.
All Americans, even those named “Price” should be proud today – America has a new leader and a new direction.
Thank you, God.
Forty years ago, Sam Cooke sang “A Change is Gonna Come.”
Today, that change has come.
God bless America!
The few who want Obama to fail, those who will begin to criticize before there is reason, won’t slow the many who are willing to buckle down and do the hard work of meeting our challenges.
Good to see you WSClark! You’ve been missed!
What about all those last minute Bush pardons?
As I predicted, Cheney/Bush really believe they are protected by the Yoo/Addington re-definitions of torture into an essentially meaningless concept.
If we don’t have criminal trials, we at least need to have a truth and reconciliation commission (the latter being easier on the governing process when so many terribly broken things need fixing).
Eight Gitmo detainees were killed while being tortured. A treatment that clearly goes beyond the ridiculous Yoo/Addingtion definitions of torture.
I was impressed by the direct repudiation tone of Obama’s address. For a moment, I almost felt embarrassed for Bush, but then decided, he probably doesn’t get it, so he’s saved from the humiliation of it all. Bush once again proves the adage that “cluelessness is sometimes a gift”.
I watched ABC’s coverage of the inauguration. One of the commenters there said that Cheney in the Wheelchair will undoubtedly be referred to as Dr. Strangelove – a characterization that will make him very unhappy. Too bad, Darth.
I feel free

To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society’s ills on the West – know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist . . . . .

Bush didn’t suspend the 2008 election
Bush isn’t going to have a third term
Bush didn’t declare martial law and become our first dictator.
It’s official – you, and all those like you, are a bunch of thukin’ idiots. No two ways around it, you have the collective intellect of throw pillows.

I don’t think anything I posted reflected “sadness” in the regime change; if anything, it reflected a celebration of our continuing peaceful transfer of power, something much of the world knows little of and we take for granted.
As to the rest, I have no idea how it is relevant. Or if it is.
AmWay picks and chooses his stats very carefully–
In the just-released Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg Poll, the president won approval from 23% of all registered voters
latimesblogs.latimes.com/presidentbush/2008/06/bush-approval-r.html
That would tie Truman’s low.
****
pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm
Some of these polls have Bush as low as 22 percent approval, which is lower than Truman.
Also, Bush has historically high disapproval ratings.
*****
And what was Bill Clinton’s approval rating when he left office? 67 percent–higher than W, than HW, or St. Ronald of Reagan

The only Pres. with a lower “high” percentage than Reagan was Nixon… Perhaps Americans werent as dumb as was thought when Ronnie left office….
Nixon — high ranking of 67%
Reagan — high ranking of 68%
BTW, I was not basing my appraisal of the Bush Presidency on approval ratings, although the American people seem pretty savvy to how bad he is.
I was basing it on what he’s acheived: recession, terrorist attack, never-ending-war, wealth inequality, rise in poverty, job loss, lower wages, lower standard of living, loss of Constitutional rights, torture, war crimes, loss of environment.
As bad as all that is, I’m sure there’s much more . . . that’s how bad he’s been.

Inaugural Poem
The following is a transcript of the inaugural poem recited by Elizabeth Alexander, as provided by CQ transcriptions.
Praise song for the day.
Each day we go about our business, walking past each other, catching each others’ eyes or not, about to speak or speaking. All about us is noise. All about us is noise and bramble, thorn and din, each one of our ancestors on our tongues. Someone is stitching up a hem, darning a hole in a uniform, patching a tire, repairing the things in need of repair.
(Who fixes stuff? Ya throw it away and go to Walmart to buy a new one!)
Someone is trying to make music somewhere with a pair of wooden spoons on an oil drum with cello, boom box, harmonica, voice.
(Boom box? Racial overtones there?)
A woman and her son wait for the bus.
A farmer considers the changing sky; A teacher says, “Take out your pencils. Begin.”
(She forgot about tying your shoes)
GMC70,
boohoo
We encounter each other in words, words spiny or smooth, whispered or declaimed; words to consider, reconsider.
(Words. Uh huh. Very deep siht here.)
We cross dirt roads and highways that mark the will of someone and then others who said, “I need to see what’s on the other side; I know there’s something better down the road.”
(Why did the chicken cross the road?)
We need to find a place where we are safe; We walk into that which we cannot yet see.
(We walk BLINDLY to find somewhere safe? Only if you are a fool.)
Say it plain, that many have died for this day. Sing the names of the dead who brought us here, who laid the train tracks, raised the bridges, picked the cotton and the lettuce, built brick by brick the glittering edifices they would then keep clean and work inside of.
(Cotton pickers? Racist tones again. She forgot to mention the SOLDIERS.)
Praise song for struggle; praise song for the day. Praise song for every hand-lettered sign; The figuring it out at kitchen tables.
(Figuring it out? Go figure! How deep!)
Some live by “Love thy neighbor as thy self.”
Others by first do no harm, or take no more than you need.
(Others by HOW MUCH CAN I TAKE FROM MY NEIGHBOR WHO MAKES MORE MONEY THEN I DO!)
What if the mightiest word is love, love beyond marital, filial, national. Love that casts a widening pool of light. Love with no need to preempt grievance.
(Huh? Beyond Marital – Like Gay Live-in!)
In today’s sharp sparkle, this winter air, anything can be made, any sentence begun.
(Wow, anyone can write!)
On the brink, on the brim, on the cusp — praise song for walking forward in that light.
(What a total piece of GARBAGE!)
This worked out well

Kinda funny, but I doubt all those riding in those limos can even hear the people cheering out there. Sad, too, that Presidents have to ride in armoured vehicles with dark glass because of a handful of nutcases.

Did Michelle O get that Gold Laced Yellow jacket from the Pharoah’s tomb? Or from Michael Jackson? She looked like a Bumble Bee.
And notice, her green gloves did not match her yellow jacket. At least that’s the buzz around Hollywood. The clash was just awful.
I never said Obama’s speech was fiction.

Shame on you BJ but that philosphy seems to be common among you libs. This country is the GREATEST country in the world, it doesn’t really matter who the leader is. Since we have the freedom to elect our leaders it is not the leadership that makes this country GREAT, it is the people.
Doesn’t really matter that Mr. Obama is the president and I didn’t vote for him, I will pray for him and hope that he does what is best for this wonderful country. God bless the USA and God bless President Obama.

CJM, Al Franken got it right on:
“If you listen to a lot of conservatives, they’ll tell you that the difference between
them and us is that conservatives love America and liberals hate America…. They don’t
get it. We love America just as much as they do. But in a different Way. You see, they
love America the way a 4-year-old loves her Mommy. Liberals love America like grown-ups.
To a 4-year-old, everything Mommy does is wonderful and anyone who criticizes Mommy is
bad. Grown-up love means actually understanding what you love, taking the good with the bad,
and helping your loved one grow. Love takes attention and work and is the best thing in the world.”

Sorry moose head annie doesn’t know! my last walk through the wal mart says alot of those dern feriners went back to their home country cuz wait for it there is no work here. So what lofty ideals other than a pay check are those ferniners comimg here for?
Back to Michelle Obama’s green gloves…
They may not be green at all. Some fabrics don’t show their true color when photographed. Granted, this is video (live), but it’s still seen through the lens of a camera.
I worked in a photography studio, years ago, and we shot a wedding where the men in the wedding party wore brown suits. The pictures taken were excellent, but in the photos, those same suits appeared to be green. Everything else, even skin tone was correct. The suits still looked green.
annie,
those “feriners” you are looking for are in the IT labs, and engineering shops and hospitals emergency rooms all across this country, carving out their American Dream.
annie_moose,
I noticed all of the grownups in the Biden family walked–both of Joe’s sons and at least one of the girls. The grandkids were watching from the sidelines. One of the little ones was with Michelle Obama’s brother. These two families seem to genuinely like one another.

My answer was not divisive, but factual.
You are always looking to stir up a hornet’s nest or insult some body.
Your posts are worthless.
You know, we COULD make our standard to be like those countries….if you look, only the very rich kids there get educated. The others never get an education and they usually come to the US to get it because they have not enough to put their own kids through college.
So if you want to compare- our education system is still better than what they have that come here on VISAs.
I should just briefly note that comparing the amount of foreign talent in our universities and the corporate misuse of the H1B program is really mixing apples and oranges, folks.
But it’s a complex topic, and I can’t really do it justice by dashing off a quick post. So I’ll leave it at that.
JimJohnson was right, but unlike him, the fashion critics loved Michelle’s outfit.
First lady Michelle Obama wowed the crowds in a sparkly yellow-gold sheath dress with a matching coat by Isabel Toledo. Always the practical shopper, she topped her outfit with olive-green gloves from J.Crew and green shoes. First daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, strutted their fashion feet in colorful pink and blue coats, also from J. Crew.
and…
Stylists like red-carpet and editorial stylist Mary Alice Stephenson swooned as well. From AP:
“What’s so powerful about Michelle Obama is we all see ourselves in her. She’s a modern woman who is fashionable and even flamboyant in her style and she is still taken seriously,” she said. “The dress is elegant, appropriate and has the individual style stamp of Michelle Obama and is timely for a woman in her 40s — and she wears embellishment during the day. Hallelujah!”

Bush Mocked As He Arrives on Inauguration Dais
@ 11:52 am by Hill Staff
POST UPDATED AT 6:45 p.m.:
The crowd packed on the west side of the Capitol grounds serenaded President Bush in mocking fashion when he took to the inaugural stage alongside Vice President Dick Cheney.
“Nah nah nah nah, hey hey, good-bye,” a section of the crowd chanted.
The crowd packed immediately below the podium received Bush in stony silence when he took his seat on the stage surrounding the podium where Barack Obama was scheduled to take the oath office to become the 44th president of the United States.
The jeers are among the final public feedback Bush will receive as president.

In his speech today he made this bunch irrelevant. Childish won’t cut it. Not working to achieve won’t be rewarded. Lets see the wackos respond now.

Brian there are some things that shouldn’t be tolerated. This was senseless and was a product of the years of disrespect shown this man. It does make me angry that those who are telling us now to support Obama in the same breath tell us ‘they are better than him’. This from posters on the WEblog. I hope that Obama is afforded the respect the office deserves.
I guess I’m always somewhat surprised that those who expect others to be respectful don’t know how to be repectful themselves.

annie,

It is really a difficult and expensive process for an employer to hire a foreign national to come work in the United States. If they have hired foreigners (presumably on H1B visas) they had to prove and document their inability to hire qualified US workers for those jobs. There is a lot of paperwork to do, many steps to take and document (job posted for x number of months locally, lack of qualified applicants, etc) before the INS (or whatever it is called this week) will issue a visa.
Mary I invite you to go back the last couple of weeks and look at my posts. In direct response to something someone post I might say something that offends you but I am trying to be upbeat and stay postive in my posts.
I do however have a problem with somethings you post to Nathan. I feel you are way out of line and when he responds to your attitude you are offended. Just my humble opinion.

…Just a difference of opinion and a lack of maturity on the part of any adults that would revert to this behavior at the solemn ocassion of Obama’s swearing in ceremony.”
I do fully agree with this statement. I was very disrespectful and immature.
“Mary_Caruso” reminds us –
Don’t forget to come and help celebrate Obama’s arrival at the White House at The Anchor on Friday
So where is President Obama gonna be on Friday? The White House or The Anchor?
I didn’t even know you’d invited him.
“Yeah Mary, do that.”
Give me an example of when I have called someome an offensive name, Reg.
I don’t take it personally when someone disagrees with me..and I think it’s sad that the blog has turned into nothing but an insult, name calling contest. I also find it funny that you and others like you (Nathan, OKobs, Boxlock, etc) are very insulting and disrespectful, but are the first to cry foul when someone reciprocates. If you want to be treated with respect, then you might try giving some.
You get out of a relationship what you put into it.
“I didn’t even know you’d invited him.”
Actually, today I tried to get him to come to the party, but his handlers were afraid I wouldn’t return him.
Well, let’s see…
You have no respect for our faith or military service…
What was it Obama said today for those who commit to military service?
oh yeah,
“They volunteer to participate in a service greater than themselves sometimes to sacrifice life and limb. This will be expected of all of us if our country is to succeed (military service and other types of service) (paraphrased)
Oh, and Obama started the ceremony with a prayer and mentioned his Christian values.
Suppose Obama is another Christian ‘kook’ that just doesn’t get it, right Mary?
I’ve seen you Mary deride Nathan like a beaten mule without mercy.
You can be down right cruel Mary at times.
Mary I do try to stay away from the name calling. When someone says something outrageous such as BJ always telling me I exploit prison labor, then yes I do question his intellect. When Linda says she is better than Bush ever was I do question her illusions of grandeur.
I do however not call you names because I think you are honest in most of what you post. I might not agree with what you post but I know you have the freedom to post it.
My opinions are mine and no one else has to agree. I read a lot and use that material in what I post.
On days like yesterday when no one was posting anything but calling each other names I just don’t participate.
“Regular” whines –
“I’ve seen you … deride Nathan like a beaten mule….”
That’s unfair.
A beaten mule has a mind of his own.
“You can be down right cruel Mary at times.”
Yeah, right. And you , “Regular,” are the Mother Theresa of WE Blog.
BTW Mary my husband and I had lunch with Nathan not long ago. We both enjoyed meeting him. He reminds us a lot of our middle son – one we are very proud of. He spent 10 years in the Navy.
So I can’t understand your strong dislike toward him.
pot meet kettle
“You have no respect for our faith or military service…”
I have respect for the Christian faith..but no respect for those who use it as a weapon to judge and condemn others who don’t believe as they do.
And when have I ever said I don’t respect your military service? I spent more than 7 years in the service with my husband. What I don’t agree with is illegal, immoral, and unethical wars…like the Iraqi war.
I dare you to give me an example of how I’ve been “cruel” to Nathan. I’ve never “mocked” his faith..I’ve questioned his faith because he doesn’t walk the talk. I’ve been much kinder and more respectful to him than he has EVER been to me, even though he doesn’t deserve it.
He is mean, nasty, cruel, abrasive, and rude…so you painting him as a victim just makes me laugh.
“So I can’t understand your strong dislike toward him.”
Well, I’d suggest you look back and read the insults he directs towards me in his posts.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I find it very hard to like someone who does nothing but insult and attack me.
When my nephew was killed in a gun accident..his response was…mocking me..”Oh Boo Hoo Hoo, my nephew died and so I don’t like guns”
If he reminds you of your son, then you have my condolences. He is a sad excuse for a person and is no example of what Christianity is really about.
“On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics.” The Prez…

I don’t consider confronting someone on their hypocrisy being cruel.
If I were you grm, I’d suggest you read other sources.

You need to check your claws at the door. I’ll leave it at that.
Mary,
“He is a sad excuse for a person and is no example of what Christianity is really about.”
This is exactly the kind of crap you post about me.
Yes, you might not call me an idiot or other names, but you have no problem mocking my faith, me personally, and making other comments which are not very nice.
Then you sit around all proud of yourself declaring that you don’t call me names?
I honestly don’t give a crap what you do or say towards me. You are the one on here crying about me calling you an idiot and then act like an innocent person. So, don’t act like some drama queen when I call you an idiot if you are going to do and say the crap you do towards me.
And hiding behind your husband isn’t going to do anything either.
Idiot.
Like I said before, I don’t “mock” your faith..just your hypocrisy and the way you cherry pick your beliefs to suit your adgenda.
I haven’t been nearly as insulting to you as you’ve been to me.
It’s time you grew up, dear. Your childlike tantrums are getting boring.
“making other comments which are not very nice.”
So are you saying I should do what you say and not what you do? Clean up your own back yard, honey.
“Then you sit around all proud of yourself declaring that you don’t call me names?”
Why do expect others to treat you with more respect than you treat them? Don’t you know you get out of a relationship what you put into it.
Poor pathetic “Nathaniew” gots his wittle fewwings hurt.
Yeah, that’s my idea of a marine.
“I honestly don’t give a crap what you do or say towards me.”
Oh yeah? Then why are you talking to me at all?
“And hiding behind your husband isn’t going to do anything either.”
And WTF is that supposed to mean? Are you threatening me?

A disclaimer????
We’ll never know.
I’ll go with that, Roberts is a moron.
God, I hope he faithfully executes that job. I’m hopeful. Congratulations all.
People can make mistakes without being a “moron”…so are you perfect?
He rules on life and death court cases…you’d think he could get a paragraph down.
No, I’m not perfect, but I’m not paid tons of money, my job isn’t for life and I don’t hold peoples’ lives in my hands.
He’s a moron.
When the pressures on, lots of people make mistakes. I’m sure he’s kicking himself all over the place tonight..cut him a break.
I hold my “leaders” to a high standard, you’ll just take any old thing eh?
So all Bush did was make some mistakes right, he’s only human…leave him alone and don’t say another word about him.
I think you’re comparing apples to oranges.
They rehearse that thing over and over and over…it’s not a wedding.
You know pmom I have always laid off of you even when I felt you were asking for it. You can talk about my politics, my religion even my husband but hands off my kids. OK.
I said Nathan was a very polite young man. A good conversationalist. He gives on the blog as good as he gets, but then so do you, so does Mary, and many others I could name.
Yes I am very proud of my kids. Of their accomplishments. Of the kind of husband and fathers they are. And just generally who they are.
The pressure was on Bush from DAY 1, remember, he stole the election?
Cut him some slack…
It’s no big deal…Good nite, I’m suddenly in the mood for TV and a bowl of popcorn.
Hope to see you Friday night!
Stay tuned for a big splash soon:
WILKINS ICE SHELF, Antarctica (Reuters) – A huge Antarctic ice shelf is on the brink of collapse with just a sliver of ice holding it in place, the latest victim of global warming that is altering maps of the frozen continent.
“We’ve come to the Wilkins Ice Shelf to see its final death throes,” David Vaughan, a glaciologist at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), told Reuters after the first — and probably last — plane landed near the narrowest part of the ice.
The flat-topped shelf has an area of thousands of square kilometers, jutting 20 meters (65 ft) out of the sea off the Antarctic Peninsula.
But it is held together only by an ever-thinning 40-km (25-mile) strip of ice that has eroded to an hour-glass shape just 500 meters wide at its narrowest.
In 1950, the strip was almost 100 km wide.

“He gives on the blog as good as he gets, but then so do you, so does Mary, and many others I could name.”
I don’t think a person has to be rude or abusive to make a point. So please don’t compare me to Nathan..I find that quite insulting.
Enjoy your party Mary, and your popcorn.
I hope you’ll grace us with your presence, Pleefer!

JimJohnson was right, but unlike him, the fashion critics loved Michelle’s outfit.

Thanks PRE for confirming the most significant happening during the inauguration.
Michelle’s Green gloves clashed horribly with her Gold laced Yellow Michael Jackson jacket. She looked like the pefect Bumble Bee except for the green gloves.
Obama’s speech, well, see nobody here bragging about the most Negative, Downer, Depressing, inauguration speech in the entire history of the United States of America.
For a guy who ran on a platform of Hope and Change, this guy is more full of DOOM & GLOOM then anybody I’ve ever heard.
If a new employee of mine came in and set such LOW EXPECTATIONS for his performance, I’d fire him.

Unless you’re a fashion mogul or Yves St. Laurent slumming here on the blog, and you know what’s fashionable today, your opinion is just that–your opinion.
As for your comments on Obama’s speech, there are two presidential historians on C-span right now who have spent their adulthood studying the speeches of all of our Presidents and disagree completely with you.
But then if Obama had said everything was coming up roses, you wouldn’t have liked that, either. Face it, you will not be pleased in any way as long as there isn’t an R beside the name. Good luck with that.

And good luck with your defense of Obama’s speech. No matter what you might in your lil feeble pea sized brain to think, Obama’s speech was completely negative, with expectations for failure, with Hope for NOTHING BUT PAIN.
That might be your Hope. It’s not mine.

A LOOOOONG time to wait for this day.
Now? It is only a few minutes until the most reviled administration in history ends.
I prepare to raise, for the first time in eight years, the American flag!
============================================
You burned your flag in front of your own son. Now how do you explain putting it back up again?
Even with Obama as POTUS, I wouldn’t burn a flag and disrespect all those who died to save that flag.
You BJ, proudly burn the flag and disrespect all who served in the past, and who served today.
I hope that makes you feel proud, and that your son can proudly display the burnt ashes of the flag in show and tell in your local public scrool.

“The pageantry included some serious business. Shortly after he and Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. were sworn in, Mr. Obama ordered all pending Bush regulations frozen for a legal and policy review. He also signed formal nomination papers for his cabinet, and the Senate quickly confirmed seven nominees: the secretaries of homeland security, energy, agriculture, interior, education and veterans’ affairs and the director of the Office of Management and Budget.”

From you, James McCluer, the penultimate loser, I will take that as a compliment that I will hold close and dear to my heart.
Happy 01-21-09 to you and yours.
I am a conservative American, and registered as a Republican. I make no apologies for either. I say
God Bless America, and God Bless President OBama.
Don;t get much time to post these days. And I guess I will skip the party since the theme has been changed. But may tomorrow and the next four years have the postive results you all hope for.
May President Obama preside with the wisdom of SOlomon. He’s gonna need it.
LJ,
Cool.
Heckofaday, America. You never cease to amaze me.
The President toned down his oratory somewhat, but I’ve reread the text.
It’s powerful stuff; albeit an “eat your spinach” speech.
Obama’s comments after Ted Kennedy was taken out of the luncheon in an ambulance were almost as important to me as the Inaugural Address.
Nothing out of the ordinary, and pretty mundane in the grand scheme of things. But compare Obama’s reaction to the news the Lion of the Senate, perhaps dying as the President spoke, on a day of magnified hope and challenge….. with Shrub reading “My Pet Goat,” for seven minutes like a deer in the headlights.
The black American who lives in my house slept through the ceremonies, ignoring the history of the event. But he woke up, licked his feet, jumped in my lap so I could scratch his tummy and his butt at the same time, just the way he likes it. After that purr-fest, he’s been strutting around like he runs the place.
(Oh, wait… He’s always done that.)
I think some of you will like this –
http://www.someecards.com/upload/somewhat_topical/this_inauguration_feels_like.html
Y’know, I’m gonna go back to what I had mentioned about the “botched” Oath.
Each president recites the following oath, in accordance with Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
Now, Someone like Roberts, who makes a fine living off of “knowing the U.S. Constitution forward and backwards” can’t get 35 words right?
I don’t want to find a friggin’ “conspiracy” in everything that involves this illegitimate government, but I can’t help not finding this at least somewhat peculiar. Maybe I should ignore it and cast it off as “a funny SNAFU”, but I’m not.
I believe in my heart of hearts that Obama has been getting praise and backing from “the left and right” media in order to make everyone treat him like some Elvis Presley-diety. This is classic, textbook demagogy and yet we’re all too dense to understand even the definition of the word. I believe this is the final putsch (look it up if my command of vocabulary befuddles you) to kill what is left of our former country.
It’s pure genius, he’s not only gonna fight terrorism for the righty’s benefit, he’s got the cover of “the left” to get whatever he needs done, done. People from all walks of life, from both “sides” of the aisle will clamor for him to make whatever changes need to happen in order “to ease our suffering”. And all of this simply, because he’s not Bush.
Big changes are coming in the next few months…no ginormous changes are coming. Changes so big, that we’ll all go, “what in the Hell just happened”. But then again, that’s what we wanted right? Change®
We’ll get it.
Like this “government ran” bank that Paulson and Bushco dreamed up.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aCcNKVDnUKMA&
I thought that’s what the Fed was? Government ran? Hahahahahaha.
I want a hero just like anyone else.
Did you just compare a black American to a dog Mr. Hawk? Is that what just happened?
Ohh, you were being funny…hahahaha, I get it now.
Wow, “Pleefer,” what happened?
Did someone shoot your dog?
Some people look at the glass at say it’s half-full. Some people look at the glass and say it’s half-empty.
You look at the glass and assume somebody out there is plotting to break your glass.
No man, my hope is in The People waking up. Not in some words spoken by a great orator. I have faith in The People.
I know I’m right but only time will tell.
I’m just glad I was wise and already started gathering my bread years ago, so’s I can drive by you all standing in that bread line. I know how tiring that can be (standing in line)…but then again America ought be used to it, every Black Friday we all just love to stand in line.
But we’re all free to think what we want (for the time being) right?
You go your way and I’ll just stand here being “crazy”, looking at my broken cup.
Happy September 12th, everyone!
Sad…
Yes, you will be.
Well, I know that I’m positively devasted by the horrific terrorist attack that happened yesterday. :)
As well you should be.
Don’t know where to put this question where it will be seen. My question is: did Beyounce lip sync the song, AT LAST, at Obama’s inauguration party yesterday? It sounded like the old classic AT LAST by the great Etta James from about 1962. Does anybody know?
JWink:
Beyonce played Etta James in a movie about Etta’s life. I imagine she worked hard to be able to sound as much like Etta as she could but I haven’t read anything either way about Beyonce singing or lip-synching. I do think Etta might have done it a little throatier–what do you think?
