Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, and other state leaders are correct to vehemently oppose a provision proposed in the second phase of the financial industry bailout requiring companies that get government aid to divest their corporate aircraft fleet or jet leases. Tiahrt, who filed an amendment that would strip that requirement from the bill, said the provision would kill jobs and called it “a symbolic slap in the face” of general aviation workers. The heads of the Big Three automakers made a bad public relations move last year in flying to Washington, D.C., on corporate jets to beg for a bailout. But using corporate jets can be a smart business decision that saves money and increases productivity.

Most of these comapanies are global companies and it makes sense and is most cost and time effective. Also, there are fractional ownerships and leasing that would make sense too. But I think if it does not get removed we should demand that Nancy Pelosi give up her private jet and congress should do away with their raises for this year and take a $1 for their salaries until they have cleaned up the mess they made, especially Pelosi, Frank, Reid, and Dodd. forcing irresponsible loans with Fannie and Freddie to people who could not afford it and then not overseeing the selling them since the late 1990’s. For ignoring McCain and Bush when they called for reforms in Fannie and Freddie practices.
“forcing irresponsible loans with Fannie and Freddie to people who could not afford it”
I did not know loans were ‘forced’ on people….
Brownlee supports man-made global warming!
The more jets, the better!
“But using corporate jets can be a smart business decision that saves money and increases productivity.”
Um, how?
In the information age, how are corporate jets anything more than a status symbol?
How is ANY personal jet travel justified?
Rough though it may be for local aviation, I think small jets are an incredible indulgence and waste.
DON’T TRUST AN ARAB. Why won’t Israel learn they can’t negotiate with terrorists. “Hamas is the terrorist.” Today’s opinion line points out that the Palestinian terrorist don’t have money for food or medicine but always have bullets. Israel is our friend and the Arab, Hamas, Palestinan terrorists are not. DON”T TRUST AN ARAB.
