As he wondered if Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson didn’t pass on a gubernatorial run because he was destined to be the possum to the Peterbilt of either Sam Brownback or Ron Thornburgh, the Topeka Capital-Journal’s Ric Anderson dreamed up some potential candidates who’d give the Democrats “wow” factor in 2010. In addition to 3rd District Rep. Dennis Moore, Topekan Steve Boyda, and what would have to be a party-switching Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh, Anderson suggested:
– Former “Daily Show” correspondent Rob Riggle, who grew up in Overland Park. “Riggle is a political satirist who holds a master’s degree in public administration and is a Marine Corps veteran” now working on a CBS sitcom, Anderson says, “but if Al Franken can compete for a Senate seat. . . .”
– Joe Walsh (in photo). “OK, this one is strictly for the ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if?’ file, but the rock guitarist and Wichita native has shown a quirky interest in politics. He staged a mock campaign for president in 1980 and also sought the vice presidency 12 years later. If nothing else, think of the inaugural party.”

Despite the tireless (and unwanted) efforts of jeremy_shops@hotmail.com I remain not a candidate for Governor of Kansas in 2010.
See me at http://www.MiamiCountyOpinion.com It explains in detail, under, “Past Web-sites”, why I feel I can become Governor. I would very much except being Governor today, if you all would Impeach her. Herbert West 3rd, http://www.MiamiCountyOpinion.com
Nah…I don’t need the stress. I am out.
I didnt know Joe Walsh was from Wichita. I think Rocky Mountain Way is one of the best rock songs of all time. And I love Life’s Been Good To Me So Far.
Monkeyhawk, in true pay to play spirit, when you win, after not running, can I be the head of the Kansas Water Office?
heheheh. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
You’d be giving Dame Karma a big boost….
“ksfarmfrrl” –
In true pay-to-play spirit, you’d better bring fried chicken to Topeka.
Still, I’ll have to consider your qualifications for the Kansas Water Office.
You’re from Western Kansas. What do you know about the problem? I thought you guys didn’t have any.
“You’re from Western Kansas. What do you know about the problem? I thought you guys didn’t have any.”
Heheheheh. That’s why we KNOW about the problem!
We used to have water. Then Hays and Russell stole it all. If you wont make me water czar, at least make them give our water back, or at least stop draining it all to water the golf courses with treated water.
And in addition to fried chicken, I made a big pot of New Mexico green chile with pork yesterday. I’d guarantee a supply of that for you, AND I’ll for the executive dining room, their could be smoked chicken along with tater salad and baked beans.
Is that enough to win office? Sigh. I bet I have to make jalapeno-cheddar corn bread too…. The price of being a bureaucrat in Kansas is probably goin up.
Geez, I have a chile pepper hangover :) Excuse the typos and bad grammar.

Sorry, the Holcomb plants will need all your water for their coal slurry ponds. No harm in that, now is there?
Although I am not now nor ever have been a candidate for Governor of Kansas, if Sunflower Electric Power Corporation brings fried chicken and you don’t, your position might be untenable.
HA. Good luck with that “sunflower electric” fried chicken. Us Water Watchers will be feasting while they are, um, whiiiiining.
Detention ponds indeed.
Here I thought the job of not running, constantly fighting back the masses who support an effort you’ve said you won’t undertake would be difficult.
Now, I see the greater challenges. Can you loosen your belt enough or will a new belt be required?
Heheeh. I think Monkeyhawk is near our age, so SANSabelt is probabaly what’s needed. Or suspenders…
Oh damn, “ksfarmgrrl” –
You’re gonna play the jalapeno-cheddar corn bread card?!
You drive a tough bargain, lady.
I’m a dedicated conservative, “ksfarmgrrl” –
I wear both suspenders and a belt.
I met Monkeyhawk. A fine trim specimen he is. I see this being a problem. Maybe he can work in a greater number of small meals into the demanding schedule of protestations of not conducting a candidacy?
While we’re on this subject — why do men ‘of our age’ seem to maintain their trim virile figures so easily??
“You drive a tough bargain, lady.”
When it comes to water policy, I can make you and offer you cant refuse…
“why do men ‘of our age’ seem to maintain their trim virile figures so easily??”
Because “women of our age” stop cooking three times a day? So they are stuck with us or trophy wives who dont cook at all!
While we’re on this subject — why do men ‘of our age’ seem to maintain their trim virile figures so easily??

From what I’ve notice, women are ’sneak snackers.’ That is, they are constantly snacking on something in between meals.
Another thing is that they rationalize the types of food they eat. They choose a 1000 calorie giant ‘chef salad’ while snubbing the 800 calorie cheeseburger.
Plus, I’ve noticed women more often than not, eat desert always.
Just my observations mind you, nothing scientific.
“I wear both suspenders and a belt.”
Hee hee heeeeeee!
You and Justin Wilson.
“Just my observations mind you, nothing scientific.”
Put the mirror down and get out of the house more.

If not being a candidate for Governor necessitates my traveling to all 105 Kansas counties on a fact-finding tour to seek out the best fried chicken, barbecue, biscuits and gravy, and home-made chili, I will consider making that sacrifice.
Just don’t send encouragement or money to jeremy_shops@hotmail.com
“Monkeyhawk” is not now nor has “Monkeyhawk” ever been a candidate for Governor of the great state of Kansas, Breadbasket of the World, the Cow-Killers of the Prairie, the state than sin forgot! God bless you and God bless the people of Kansas and the United States of America!
desserts not deserts, although the latter would be lower in calories…
BTW Walsh bought and owns a house by WSU that his grandparents lived in. Bought it out from a fraternity back in the 90s, over in the Fairmount Park area. At least that was the story I have alwys heard.
Joe Walsh, why he’s Just an Ordinary Average Guy!
I’d vote for him, be much better than brownback.
If gw can be pres., certainly Walsh could be gov.!
James Gang Rides Again

I wanna take you hoome do things to ya,
everytime I try……
And yes, Rocky Mountain Way w/Eagles.
And yes, Life is good enough for me.
Topekan Steve Boyda mentioned above, is a former Marine too. (SSgt Vietnam era). If that is Nancy’s husband.
Rhonda mentioned Rob Riggle was a Marine.
“If nothing else, think of the inaugural party.””
I didn’t know this:
The “classic” lineup of the band (Walsh, Peters, Fox) reunited to perform at an election rally for Bill Clinton at the Cleveland State University Convocation Center on November 4, 1996.
I volunteer for the “Czar of bad taste” position. provided, of course, I can wear my zoot suit. If anybody in Kansas knows bad taste, it would be me.
If Ksfarmgirl knows anything about the great dust storms of Kansas during the 30’s, she would have my support.
I would admit that I did not know enough about it until this past weekend after watching about it on the History channel.
Western Kansas has a natural recurring cycle of a drying period that can last as long as 13 years or longer and it is scary to know that historically the area can develop into a regional desert such as the Sahara Desert.
Kansas has a very high probability of returning to those dry days which is not only very important for Kansas but extremely important for our nation and for the rest of the world.
As someone who lived through cycle of drought and the dust storms of the early 50s in Stevens County, I can tell you it isn’t any fun.
Farmers are getting better at protecting the land, but sometimes it just isn’t enough. Sandy SW Kansas is an almost desert that rises occasionally to show us we can work with, but will never conquer nature.

How about Kirstie Alley for guv? She (and Rush Limberger) are 58 today and she does occasionally visit here.

Posted January 12, 2009 at 7:02 am …I would very much except being Governor today, if you all would Impeach her. Herbert West 3rd…”
No offense Herbert, but I require that my Govenor know when to use accept instead of except.
How’s this for a scenario?
Nobody run for governor on the Democratic side. Instead, mount an organized campaign to write in Ron Thornburgh, with a good Democrat as running mate.
Then, when Thornburgh loses the GOP primary, he switches parties and becomes the Democrat nominee.
If Thornburgh wins, he would be enough of a gentleman to resign the nomination, and party leaders could turn to someone like Bill Koch or Les Kitchenmaster… a real businessman to run against the “gummit as a bidness” types.
To: Brian_Nuevo. Governor Sebelius has built a career around except. It is her version of “BUT”. She is just a huge “LOOP-HOLE”. If I accept then I am following the peoples path, if I except, I would be following her protocal that you and others tolerate. I acknowledge my reversal or misuse of the text/spelling of the word accept. Thanks for the mention, view and communication. I hope others stay involved, we need a Governor, not a “LOOP-HOLE”. Herbert West 3rd, yes, I would accept with few exceptions, the position of Governor. Only exception, I would be there for the people, not the Legislatures or myself. Stay involved, HLW3RD{D}. http://www.MiamiCountyOpinion.com

You should be grateful I am not now, nor have I ever been, a candidate for Kansas Governor.
Despite the tireless efforts of jeremy_shops@hotmail.com, I remain a non-candidate and your journey to Cedar Crest is unimpeded.
Hmmm, the Wichita Eagle, promoting one of the Eagles for Gov., Cons will be smelling liberal bias!
If Joe Walsh files for the governorship, I’ll reconsider my candidacy. He would be one fun governor!
I am not now, nor have I ever been, a candidate for Kansas governor.
Moneyhawk, when was you considered? Herbert West 3rd {D}. http://www.MiamiCountyOpinion.com Pre-Exploratory Committee Status Candidate for possible bid at the 2010 Kansas Governor Seat.
