Is this a sign of the apocalypse? Or just of the times? As the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 34 percent in 2008, the biggest loss since 1931, the only Dow stocks to come out ahead for the year were Wal-Mart (up 18 percent) and McDonald’s (up nearly 6 percent).

This means stock market investors have a dismal outlook for the immediate future of our economy. Wal Mart and McDonalds are the two companies that most people would say they receive the best value for their hard earned dollars.
All local governments, city, county and state, should react to this by immediately reducing taxes ten percent.
we shouldn’t be outsourcing American values nor our jobs. Walmart is a disgrace to the American people.
Buy American. Buy local. Buy quality.
Sorry, pmom, but with the economy tanked, walmart is a good deal. I shop there and will continue to do so.
Just send your money to China. Its not a good deal in the long run. Just look at how much it has hurt us so far.
I have not shopped at Walmart in many years. Recently, I have also sworn off McDonalds.
“Americans like it cheap, fast”
This is what they are conditioned to. It was not always so. Americans will learn again to appreciate worth and invested time.
All these Libs who think they’re too good to save a penny.
As they say in Texas, Champagne tastes on a beer pocketbook
Uh Reg,
huh??

oh boy….let’s bash walmart again!!! Haven’t seen that in a while! Let’s look down our noses at the store, let’s complain about the millions of people who are obviously forced to shop and work there (held at gunpoint, clearly) and in general bash a successful business. What fun!! After all, that is the ‘cool’ thing to do, isn’t it?
I don’t have any problem with Wal Mart except for their employment practices. Otherwise, they sell pretty much the same stuff that everybody else does at reasonable prices. Buy American? Try finding a TV, coffee pot, or a microwave that’s made in America. It’s not going to happen.
Mrs XXX loves Wal Mart. Whenever she’s feeling a little blue, dinner and a trip to Wal Mart fixes her right up.
And it’s easy on my wallet.
“Try finding a TV, coffee pot, or a microwave that’s made in America. It’s not going to happen.”
The solution to that is, don’t buy anything new. Shop second hand shops, estate sales, etc.
“The solution to that is, don’t buy anything new. Shop second hand shops, estate sales, etc.”
What a brilliant suggestion. Which estate sale do you buy your used underwear? Diapers?
Terminate all retail sales…and put millions of people, such as clerks, stockers, truckers, railroad, dock workers and millions of others out of work. Brilliant.
Waiting for moderation because I used h e double hockey sticks?
Sigh….
Ok, the edited version.
Works for me Raptor.
Don’t WORRY. This culture is too stupid and short sighted to actually stop and think.
JEEPERS, we had a “President” who told us the answer to everything was to go out and buy stuff.
Your monument to consumption culture is in no IMMEDIATE danger. It is just not sustainable over the long haul. I just got out early.

BlueJay, something is messed up. My 10:06 post is “awaiting moderation” and I didn’t use any kind of objectionable language.
Wal-mart sucks. I only shop there for garden.
Target is nice.
WalMart has ABSOLUTELY the worst customer service in the retail sector. Customers are treated like it is their privledge to shop there.
I concur, WalMart SUCKS!
Yeah, XXX, my 9:01 is awaiting moderation. I guess. It still appears on the thread.
I did say bison burger. Maybe the software thought I said booger.
Ya suppose?
Dennis
Everything is “awaiting moderation”.
Pony up Eagle, gets some real IT people and software in there.
I now have a post ‘awaiting moderation.’ I don’t think those ever get out of their moderation limbo.
I think they are working on the Blog server again….
“Fast and cheap.” Just like my girlfriends.

Now there’s a concept idea. I wonder if I could get a part time job at the Eagle in IT. I could surely do better than what they have now. Come to think about it, my Pug could probably do better, and he’s stupid.
Just got back from walmart. Bought chinese underoos, chinese french toast and chinese laundry soap. The checkout girl didn’t speak chinese. I’m totally bummed.
On the way back, I stopped at mickey d’s and bought two sausage burritos. Picante sauce was made in china.

Were they chinese?
Mine ain’t moderated yet. Maybe, “I shopped at Dillons today!”
True story here.
JMWalker and I had occasion to visit a Walmart once. We needed ice for a nearby meetup.
Walker can honestly report that a shudder of revulsion was visible on me just BEING in the place.
It stinks there of most of what is wrong with America.
The girl at mickey d’s didn’t speak chinese either. I’m complaining.

Shudder? There was wailing and gnashing of teeth. People thought I was torturing him. Never had so much fun in my life:-) (we got paper plates too.) The ice was made in china.
bj…if it causes you so much revulsion, here is a novel idea…DON’T GO THERE. Or, were you tied/kidnapped and FORCED to go to that hateful place?
news flash, bj…you are not required/forced or dragged to anyplace you detest. Quit yer whining and just don’t go there if you hate it so much.
“The ice was made in china.”
Walmart must be doing something right! I’d think making ice in China to be sold in America would increase rather than reduce the cost.
Another typical whine fest by the Libs.
I think their mothers never told them not to complain all the time.

Great lib response. JM do you suppose the sack the ice was in was made in China and not the actual ice itself if indeed your post wasn’t a joke to begin with?
Reg, Whine is the native language of the libs. Haven’t you figured that one out?
Can anyone say: Non-union = success in business?
I wasn’t driving Raptor.
And I have said, I do not go to Walmart.
America needs to break the death spiral, they started buying walmart chineese goods because they could save a few bucks, now that so many jobs have been outsourced because of it, they have few options but to buy walmart because of loss of income, and jobs, and the fact that we’ve lost manufacturing ability.
Walmart is a disgrace to the American people”
HA-HA HE-HE HO-HO! Listen to libs tear down the store, which they will be rushing to buy from like the rest of America!!
Sorta like Foxnews wins for 7th year in a row. And libs just can’t STAND it!
:-)
“Another typical whine fest by the Libs.
I think their mothers never told them not to complain all the time.”
That’s because their MOTHERS were gone shopping at WALMART to provide all the nice things liberal children like!
The Walmart import concept is much like the Republican economic philosophy, discredited.
driving or not…if you hate Walmart sooo much, why did you go in? so you could whiiine about it months later?
ridiculous. That is akin to turning on a television show that you hate and sitting there watching it, whining the entire time.
Leave it to the liberal democrats to tear down two of the biggest success stories in America. Two small town business people who build their business into multi-national corporations employing more Americans than any other industry.
Only in America does this b-ss-ackward logic work.
Liberals, still can’t handle success, unless it comes from their God the federal government.
The truth hurts.
test. test.

Is this post awaiting moderation?
I liked the walmart story, before they changed it from Made in America, to Made in China.
“Phantom” posted –
“I liked the walmart story, before they changed it from Made in America, to Made in China.”
That’s sort of what got me into “awaiting moderation.”
Go figure.
Monkeyhawk,
I tired your ‘experiment’ and now I have bits and pieces of posts also awaiting moderation. I can’t see any objectionable words, but I’m not the moderator…
In fact, this time I hope history repeats itself and the comments never make it out of moderation limbo. I tried too many of your experiments, found no success, but left many experiments in that limbo land.
“lindainks55″ –
I sent the original “awaiting moderation” post to WE Blog to get an explanation.
We’ll see.
“changed it from Made in America, to Made in China”
Walmart is just a BIG example of the Made in China problem. It takes the biggest hit, but the truth is everywhere you go the story is the same.
The products we consume are not made in America and most stores (almost all that I am aware of) sell products made abroad. Even grocery stores!
Unfair to singel out Walmart on exploiting this. Afterall – the consumer (you and I) demand it. We want everything for FREE, or as close to it as possible.
Walmart, is feeding the baby what the baby wants.
Blame the consumer.
Exactly: we wanted big, safe, gas guzzling cars, then complain when the big three make them. Walmart employs 1.2 million people in this country, and we complain about how cheap they are. Those same 1.2 million are glad to have jobs at this particular time. They may not be the best jobs, but they are jobs.
Apparently, some here would rather see those 1.2 mil out of work. That would then be 1.2 mil more on the public dole. I have no trouble at all shopping there and supporting the workers.

Why would anyone believe the ice came from china in the first place? Oh, I know: my word is so respected, even my jokes are believed:-)
And, why would anyone believe my response wasn’t also said in jest?
Oh, I know: my word is so respected, even my jokes are believed :-)
JM,
Back in the mid- 19th Century, American ice from the Great Lakes was exported to Central and South America, and as far away as India, packed in straw in the holds of sailing ships.
Good weasel Linda – for anyone who can’t read you words. Libs are really so gullible. They will buy anything – as long as it is union made I guess.
Your response made my day.
The answer must be “YES”.
America voted for Obama, didn’t they?
Tin foil alert!
Wal-Mart secretly owns The Wichita Eagle and this is anti-anti-Wal-Mart censorship!
W-M is the standardization of American “culture”. it will soon standardize a Global “Culture” with China at the helm.

————————————————–
What?
The American consumer doesn’t want to pay more to buy American made products?
Say it isn’t so!
These people shopping at Walmart must hate the Unions. Otherwise, they would boycot Walmart and buy American made products only, and wouldn’t even mind paying a higher price to support their brother Union comrades.
“the biggest loss since 1931, the only Dow stocks to come out ahead for the year were Wal-Mart (up 18 percent) and McDonald’s (up nearly 6%…”
It is called “identifying what the people want and filling the need”.
“Apparently, some here would rather see those 1.2 mil out of work.”
Not me.
I’d rather see those people with their own businesses or working for small businesses. You know, like it used to be before Walmart?
“You know, like it used to be before Walmart?”
We used to have outhouses in the good ole days too.
That doesn’t mean we should bring them back.
We are moving forward into 2009. Catch up.
Walmart is progress right back to the age of the robber barons.
Bluejay apparently you are the only one in America who feels that way.
The rest of us: Shop at wallyworld.
How’s it feel to be a minority of one.
I only have one nic and mine is not the only one here that hates Walmart.
Oh Bluejay, why do you continue to tell lies?
Here’s a little blast from your past:
” confessed to the only two posts I did as JM.
I posted yesterday only a few times during the day and only was on for an hour or so last night.
Posted by: J R | November 07, 2007 at 09:51 PM”
You are a confessed troll and a liar.
Yup, I joined a group of other people attacking a troll who was trying to make nics irrelevant.
We were successful.
Upshot is, pretty much all con nics are irrelevant.
We all know who is really irrelevant in life.
Have a slow day troll Bluejay/JR/JM.
Save the world yet with your hand-me-down computer?
There have been “big box” stores for decades.
Wal-Mart just does it better.
Card check legislation, if successful, may hold great change for places like Walmart and McDonalds.
This important legislation would allow all workers to know just who it who wants and does not want the right to bargain collectively.
The suck ups and climbers get exposed?
Now organizing a union in a Walmart is something I could sign on to.
FIRST thing to go is the Walmart loyalty song.
Target is a Union shop, and they are profitable. On most items not on the ‘end cap’ their prices are within pennies of WallyWorld. Wally’s grocery prices on the items I buy frequently, are higher than Dillons… and Dillons used to be a Union shop, too. Rather than fight the NLRB over the UFCW’s organization of butchers, Wally fired all their meat cutters and went to boxed beef. I don’t see that as providing employment, but a way to emasculate the collective bargaining process and fire workers rather than negotiate.
The one thing roach & I will agree on is that business is in business to provide goods and services to willing buyers. Consumers, however, change their minds about things much faster than many industries can respond. The winners, as we are seeing in the automobile industry, are those who are already making the product the buyers suddenly decide they want. Americans are infamous for saying one thing (buy American!) but doing another with their money (buy imports).
Have fun, y’all.
At Target, the workers can’t help you because they have their toungues pierced, and you can’t understand what they say, and at Wal-Mart, you can’t find anyone to help you. I wandered Wal-Mart for a week once, looking for a bathtub stopper.
