The late-night take on ‘Shoegate’

“President Bush took a surprise trip to Baghdad over the weekend and at a press conference with the Iraqi premier, a reporter threw his shoes at him. This guy was so angry and so anti-Bush, at first people just assumed he was an American journalist, but no.” – Jay Leno

“You see what he did to keep from being hit? Something he’s never done before. Lean to the left.” – Leno
“I don’t think Bush really has dodged anything like that since the Vietnam War.” – David Letterman
“The man who threw his shoes at President Bush is being hailed as a hero in Iraq. Yeah. In fact, when he dies, he’ll be greeted in heaven by 72 podiatrists.” – Conan O’Brien

Things are moving fast for the guy who threw the shoes at President Bush. Yup, almost immediately, he was offered his own show on MSNBC. – Leno

The funniest thing I heard was on Leno about the shoe-thrower getting a show on MSNBC.

No, he was a Baathist and then a Sadrist. That’s nearly the same as an American journalist, no?

bush has earned every bit of scorn he is shown, and then some! He should be turned over to the world court and put on trial for war crimes. To be JUST a laughingstock isn’t nearly as bad as he deserves.

Ummm, wrong – former Baathist members maybe, but not every day Iraqis.

Of course duh Liberals here, same thing as Baathists who cheer the action.

Never fear, the Baathists are being purged in a large, bold move as we speak. They had lied on their loyalty oaths and went into the Army and Interior positions. Now the Iraqi president is kicking them to the curb and perhaps in prison.

Ummm, it’s not exactly ethnic cleansing, it’s getting rid of hard line Ba’athist still loyal to their old party and not the new Iraqi Democracy.

In other words, getting rid of the anarchists and those who would set internal attacks and try to over throw the government.

Regular – if you think things are so great over in Iraq then why has the Iraqi Prime Minister Al Maliki already promised the Iran president safety from the US forces in Iraq? And Al Maliki is part of the new Iraqi Democracy?

You must use a different dictionary than the rest of the world as to the word ‘loyalty’.

Wasn’t it Daddy Bush that first used the phrase ‘New World Order’? Was this the Bush family mantra – and is that why the Bush family seems to worship the Saudis and surrender everything to them?

Let’s not forget – the majority of 9/11 hijackers were Saudis – not Iraqis.

    “Regular” conflates –

“…hard line Ba’athist still loyal to their old party and not the new Iraqi Democracy.

In other words, getting rid of the anarchists…”

If they are still loyal to the Ba’athist Party, and want to take over the government, they are by definition most certainly NOT “anarchists.”

    Words mean things, “Regular.”

That’s why George WMD Bush calls ‘em “insurgents” instead of “patriots” (fighting the invasion and occupation of a foreign government) or “freedom fighters) which we’d call ‘em if they were “insurging” against, say, an identical Iraq invasion and occupation by Iran.

You throw around the word “anarchists” simply because it’s inflammatory rhetoric.

Isn’t ‘New World Order’ the goal of PNAC? A political philosophy I abhor, along with its proponents. The two most dangerous goals of bushco I hope are finally defeated are:

    America as the world’s police

    and

    legislating morality

The shoe thrower is a HERO!

And as Keith Olberman reported yesterday, he also seems to have started a movement.

I hear our shoe-thrower has been approached with a fat contract by the NY Yankees.

    Reggie,
it’s not just the Ba’athistas- a poll last summer found about 75% of Iraqis want us gone, and fast! And about half of those have designated a warmer destination for us.
